This shop is pretty busy on certain days and I just decided to try them on a Sunday afternoon when there was a crowd waiting to order and a crowd waiting for their drinks! But I did get my drink quickly, so the kiosk is pretty accurate on timing. Faster than some boba shops that don't have lines! The cashier didn't ask about sweetness level. Honestly, I never get full sugar if I could help it but with the chaos going on in this store, it slipped my mind to ask for the lowest amount! However, on one of the drinks, it said less sweet. Too close and too convenient for us. We've been coming far too often than my wallet can keep up. We always order through the app which makes it super convenient. And by the time we order from home it's ready for pick up. If you don't have the app though, there are 2 kiosks when you enter. The line outside confirms the popularity. The space is always crowded, everytime we go. There are 3 small booths off to the side but mostly just the bar that they're preparing drinks at. There's also a screen to let you know if they're working on your order, or if you order is ready. I would always order the coconut mango boom but now I've moved on to the coconut mango blue. I've ordered from Heytea three times and I think that's about all of my money they'll get... Three chances is pretty generous for an upscale boba shop like this, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially since they're at a convenient location to me. I truly miss Truedan - why do they forsake me?! They just one day suddenly disappeared... I'll never trust Taiwanese boba brands again. I suppose Heytea doesn't count since they originated in Jiangmen? I'm slowly watching Heytea blow up on social media, and it's a very sudden and strange surge of a brand that has lines out the wazoo out of nowhere, like Labubu. TLDR overhyped, expensive, non-artificial ingredients, handy app, slush-centric, good chewy boba, good matcha. Heytea has a bold claim to being the inventors of cheese tea (using real dairy) and "new style tea" which is just another way to say premium ingredients. They certainly had a hand in making it popular through their marketing. I recommend downloading the Heytea app, where you'll automatically get 15% off your first order, see the caloric content, nutritional values, and ingredients in each drink (because what the hell is a boom?), and gain loyalty points (with 10% off for your birthday). I admire the graphic design within the app, though I don't think the app is intuitive. You can essentially add any topping to any drink, but you have to select the topping separately AFTER you already put the drink in the cart. Also, you can't remove or modify items if you're on the checkout page. Still, using the app beats waiting in line for the touch pad ordering system which needs to be reset sometimes (and has so many fingerprints). They have a precise estimate for when your order will be ready, and you can even poke them (pretty neat). You can try ordering with a cashier, but employees are usually preoccupied. Pay attention to your order number, and look at the order status screen for when it's ready. This place isn't roomy or comfortable enough to sit down and lounge. - Guava Green Grape I did enjoy the fresh guava juice, which tasted more fresh and smooth than a Kern's. I enjoyed this combo and it looked pretty, though I wish I had gotten it at full ice instead of light. - Matcha Jasmine Latte with Brown Sugar Bobo Their matcha quality is nice, as it was pretty earthy and completely smooth. I'm slightly lactose-intolerant and their real dairy milk didn't bother me, though I wish they had milk alternatives. The brown sugar bobo was pretty delicious - almost like Truedan's soft, gooey, and flavorful brown sugar boba. I didn't taste the jasmine too much, but it did taste more tea-like and bitter than other matcha lattes. The matcha cloud was just a matcha flavored cheese cream and fairly decadent. The matcha jelly is basically cut up cubes of matcha pudding. I love how matcha-forward this drink is and would get it again. - Coconut Mango Boom This is the drink that most people are getting. I was surprised that it was more watery than other mango sago drinks I've had in the bay. It's just another mango sago drink with extra toppings. - Crisp Grape Boom It's a grape slushie with Concord grape juice and grape bits, and that's all there is to it. There was a hint of tea taste but not enough. - Mulberry Strawberry Boom Gave this to a strawberry enjoyer and the taste of the mulberry offended him. It tasted like strawberry juice with an additional grape-like Asian berry, and lots of little seeds. Their modification system is slightly confusing but extensive. There are three levels of ice (regular, less, and light) and five levels of sugar (regular, less, minimal, none, and super sweet). As most of the drinks are slushies, modifying the ice makes it more icy or liquidous. The sugar levels are appropriately labelled as someone who always gets half or less sugar (I like minimal here). The naming convention is also weird - cloud means something with cheese cloud (cream) on it, and boom doesn't really mean anything, though it's most likely a slushie with no cheese cream. There's almost always a line here, and the most workers I've ever seen bustling in a boba shop, and I don't really see why after I've given them a few tries. If I ever came back, it would have to be on a discount, and I'd stick with their matcha drinks or whatever good fruit is in season. I don't taste too much tea strength, which is typically what I want. However, I do give huge props for being one of the only boba places in existence to list calories, and they do remake drinks if you don't like it... whether you want to wait for it to be remade, though, is the real dilemma. read more

The order online portal does continue to close periodically through the day when more orders reach capacity, so it's better to order online right away when you have the chance to. When I came here Sunday night, there was no line at all. There was a mobile kiosk by the door, but it was not working so you had to order at the cashier. I ended up ordering and asked the cashier some recommendations for milky + fruity options, which is how I ordered one of the drinks. I paid fairly quickly, but good lord it took nearly like 25-30 minutes for my drink to be ready. Thankfully, I was doing laundry near my apartment, so my husband and I drove back to finish the rest of our laundry and came back to pick up our drinks. I would recommend ordering ahead of time versus ordering in person to get a better time estimate. It would be good to walk around Westlake rather than wait inside for your drink. There is also a screen mounted above the wall that will tell you what order they're preparing and the wait. The store itself is fairly small and there are a limited amount of seats/tables available. REVIEW OF DRINKS: -Coconut Mango Boom: This was pretty good! It's a less sweet version of a coconut mango sago that I enjoyed. However by the time I picked it up, the mango part was already melting. On a weekend afternoon, my friend and I did not bother sitting and waiting inside the boba shop, even though we enjoyed the minimalistic white interior. I ordered the Brown Sugar Bobo Oat Milk Tea. I wish that there was a greater selection of milk substitutes, but I was happy to try this for my first time here. Cheese Cloud FTW! As a lover of Happy Lemon's salted cheese series in like 10+ years, I got so happy when I tried Hey Tea. For the first time, I found one that is comparable to my go-to drink in HL. Comparable being the key word as they are not exactly the same recipe-wise. Hey Tea for me is all about being extra. I ordered the Cheese Cloud Green Tea. The cheese topping is super thick by default not just in terms of consistency but also the amount in each cup. I do not have to pay for extra cheese topping which is a plus! It is very creamy with just the right taste of cheese. Also, the green tea is MORE floral and fragrant which gives a nice finish in every sip. My order of 2 drinks was placed neatly in a cup holder and paper bag along with some cute napkins. This was my first time at Hey Tea and got here a little before they opened at 11am. While in line, I downloaded their app. For first time orders, they offered 15% off. However... Apparently their app shuts down online orders if they have too many in queue (mind you, they just opened) and they wouldn't allow me to get my points or use the welcome discount offer since it has to be done through the app. I'm so tired of boba places using trash mobile apps for their rewards program. I got the mulberry strawberry bloom slushie. Not sure why it's in a dark cup vs the clear cup. Best part is the actual fruit in the drink. But I'd pass on this in the future. read more
