This is one of the newer Boba shops that opened up in the Del Mar, Highlands Sky Deck area. I ordered the Kale Boost Tea and my daughter got the Mango Grapefruit Boom. My drink was supposed to be less sweet, but it was too sweet for me. I expected something healthier, but it was too sugary for my taste. I barely tasted kale. Supposedly there were fresh kale juice, but I didn't taste it. My daughter had actually ordered the Grapefruit Boom but the guy who took our order put down Mango Grapefruit Boom. The receipt was with me so we didn't realize that it was the wrong drink until we circled back 25 minutes later to pick it up. That's how long it took for them to prepare our drinks. She didn't care for her drink either since she's not a mango fan. This is one of the places where I check of "been there tried it" but would not want to come back. Heytea is definitely giving OMOMO a run for their money in this Del Mar shopping center. We arrived 15 minutes after opening, and there were already about 20 online orders ready to go. These guys are trained well and super quick. As a self proclaimed matcha enthusiast, this is definitely some of the best you can get in SD. The matcha was deliciously smooth and the oat milk was probably the best i've ever had - it tasted so fresh. The boba was cooked nicely however I prefer OMOMO boba. Great spot! First time trying Heytea and was surprised with the welcoming tea smell the moment you walk in! Service here was fast and the decor here was minimal but aesthetic. My only wish is that it was bigger for a space to study. THIS IS A GRAB AND GO LOCATION. Out of two drinks I got, I definitely would get the Mango grapefruit boom again! Ever since I went to the Rowland Heights location and the Milpitas location, I kept dreaming about this tea shop. So when I realized it was now in Del Mar, I was oh so happy. Let's just say that crisp green drink is excellent and oh so refreshing. I also love love the mulberry and mulberry & strawberry drink. Don't ask me which one I've gotten because you know what, they are all so good and refreshing. Btw, all I've done is order online because there's no way that I am about to stand in line and wait for a long time for it. Though I've gone to the Del Mar location during off hours and got my drink in like five minutes. The staff is friendly when they give me my drink and they are quite efficient. The decor is simple and there's a fruity or floral scent when you enter. It's also pretty bright in there. But anyhow, the drinks are awesome and I think I'll slowly work through the menu and try to order one drink a week. If I say a day, that's just too much sugar. Though I appreciate that you can adjust the sugar level, ice level and if you want caffeinated tea or not. It might just be for certain drinks. Ever since I tried Hey Tea for the first time, I've been hooked- I've already gone back 3-4 times in just 2 weeks because it's that good! So far, I've tried the Mango. Came on Saturday and it was crowded with an expected wait time of 30 min! We've been wanting to try for a while so we sat in the plaza. I like how they have a screen with order numbers of drinks that are ready so you don't always have to stand around waiting. They have online ordering which is what I'll take advantage of the next time I come. The drinks are reasonably priced considering most of them already come with toppings! I asked the girl what the difference between the coconut mango boom and coconut mango blue were and she said "they're different colors" so that's that haha. Came here opening weekend and I'm impressed by their efficiency! My NorCal friends rave about this place so I'm glad I get to experience it myself and I was not disappointed! My brother works at a Heytea location in the Bay Area so I wanted to give this spot a try after getting his recommendations! As one of the better matcha/boba shops on this side of town, I thought their drinks were good but it's probably a spot where I'd order ahead for pickup. When I entered the boba shop, I immediately thought it smelled so good! There isn't any seating inside but there are plenty of tables and chairs outside, so you can wait for your drinks while standing in the shop or sitting outside. Something to keep in mind is that if you order your drink for pickup on the Heytea app, you can see your estimated wait time. During my visit, I tried the supreme matcha latte and the cloud magnolia latte. I liked the velvety texture of their matcha, but wasn't the biggest fan of the matcha jelly. Would order again just without matcha jelly! As for the cloud magnolia latte, I probably would not order this again. I didn't think the flavors meshed well together so I did not really enjoy this one. However, I will be back to this Heytea since I would like to try any of the fruit boom drinks! read more

The shop replaced another boba tea shop in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center plaza. Aesthetics are lacking at the grab-and-go shop and customer service in need of improvement probably. The menu was easy to read and categorized by Top Drinks, In Season, Matcha, Fruit Tea (choices in the many), Milk Tea, and even an interesting Superfoods section. I can't speak for their other options, but the JASMINE TEA I ordered with brown sugar boba (no up charge) and a cheese cloud (+$0.99) was simply OUTSTANDING. I mean, the shop did smell wonderful, fragrant jasmine wafting through the air. It came through powerfully in this drink, both in fragrance and lovely floral taste. I heard and saw that there was a new boba chain opening up in Del Mar via Instagram, so my friends and I made our way up to their opening weekend with their BOGO free drinks. I've always heard amazing things about this chain but never got to try it. So happy to hear that they have one in the San Diego county now! It's located in between Iceskimo and Pokewan in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center on Rl Camino Real in Del Mar. There's ample free open parking spaces around the area that won't ever be an issue. As it was opening weekend, the lines were LONG. It took us about 45 mins to an hour to get our drink which is a good sign as it shows that they advertised their grand opening really well! My boyfriend and I got their Triple Supreme Matcha Latte with 50% sweetness and their Cloud Mango with 50% sweetness. Wow - both drinks lived up to the expectations! Both drinks did not disappoint at all! There was a nice strong traditional matcha flavor that did not have that artificial sweetness that I dislike. The three matcha toppings (matcha cheese cloud, matcha mochi and matcha jelly) in the latte were really good as well! Definitely really enjoyed the mochi and jelly. The cheese cloud was overshadowed by these two toppings. The mango drink was also very good. I'm a sucker for mango drinks, and this was delicious! I did wish I ordered the Mango Grapefruit Boom instead as the aesthetic of the drink looked a lot better than the regular Cloud Mango LOL. Definitely something I would love to try next time! Overall, a really good shop to stop for boba! Especially for the matcha and fruit teas for those located in North County. Having had Heytea in the Bay Area numerous times, I was pleasantly surprised to find the grand opening for the first San Diego Heytea was happening this weekend. They are running a BOGO deal the first three days of the opening and as expected the line was out the door and down the block. It took 2 hours to reach the cashier from the back of the line! I expect the line to die down in the coming days. I also received a free limited edition San Diego magnet as part of the grand opening. I ordered the Triple Supreme Maatcha Latte ($7.99) which is a seasonal drink, and the Cloud Crisp Grape ($7.99) which is a purple grape drink. Unfortunately, they ran out of ingredients for the Cloud Crisp Grape while I was waiting for my order. I was very disappointed as this is one of their top drinks and my go to order. However, to my surprise, I was offered a free drink, in addition to a replacement drink. I ordered two cloud green grapes for my replacement drink and free drink, meaning I got 3 drinks for $7.99! The cloud green grape was delicious, and had a very similar flavor profile to the crisp grape. Amazing customer service! The store itself is quite small with a tiny standing area and two tables outside. I came on a weekday when they just opened, so there was no line. However, there were plenty of online orders so there was still a bit of a wait. I ordered the Cloud coconut blue matcha, which came with coconut water, matcha cloud, and blue spirulina. It was so gorgeous and refreshing, I can tell they use high quality coconut water. It did not overpower the matcha, but rather imparted a savory, buttery taste that paired well with the earthy matcha. I am not sure what blue spirulina tastes like and I don't think I tasted it in this drink, but it looked pretty before I mixed it and I'm pretty sure it has nutritional value. The beverages are delicious. My favorite drink of the summer is actually the Kale Boost Tea (not pictured here), and the bobo pops (which are seldom in stock). Honestly, this is my dream tea shop in that there are many caffeine free options (you can remove the tea from nearly any drink), and they "nail" the less sugar. It's perfect for my taste. They use high quality ingredients and the store is clean and the staff is friendly. The only reason for the stat deduction is due to the inconsistency. I know they are a relatively new shop but I've ordered about 8 times already and so far, the app has been down and there's no way to get the points from your in-store purchase into the app. Super disappointing. Also, they give you the option to use a custom sticker on your beverage but so far they have only actually done it twice for me. I'm not sure if it's inattention to detail or some other glitch, but if I go through the steps of selecting it and then it's not there, I guess it's no big deal in the scheme of things but it was something I was looking forward to. Finally, a friend and I went last weekend and they didn't tell us until they finished making the drink that they were out of cloud topping for it. I feel like they should have told us before they made it and gave us a choice to get something different. The triple matcha (4/5) - I enjoyed the strong matcha flavor of this drink with a balanced level of sweetness. This drink came with matcha jelly, matcha mochi, and matcha cloud toppings. The cloud and mochi components make this drink pretty thick. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the texture change of the jelly the most. The mochi was felt harder to distinguish from the drink as a whole, so I feel like it didn't really make the drink much better. Also, my friends commented how you can taste the powder texture of matcha powder in this drink. I tried sips of the jasmine and grapefruit tea. The grapefruit tea stood out to me, and was a delicious and refreshing combination of sweetness and fresh fruit. I'd happily come back here to order and try more fruit teas. I've been to Heytea twice, and the drinks are good but really not for me. If you like fruit drinks, this is the place for you, because they're known for high quality fruit drinks with no artificial flavoring. I generally don't go for fruit drinks so hence why this place is not for me. mango coconut 8/10 -- this is good, and I think my mom would love it because she loves mango drinks! Brown sugar bobo milk tea 8/10 -- I asked for 25% sugar and the sweetness was a good amount of sweetness but still on the sweet side for me. I prefer tea-forward drinks where the tea flavor is strong. This drink is on the lighter side in terms of the tea flavor, and even with the reduced sugar, it's still on the sweeter side. I did enjoy it, but I prefer other boba places, such as Chi Cha San Chen. Matcha Supreme 5/10 -- I asked the staff what's the difference between the Matcha Cloud and the Matcha Supreme and the Triple Matcha. The matcha cloud is a matcha latte with a cheese foam. The Matcha Supreme is a matcha latte with a matcha foam. The Triple matcha is a matcha supreme with additional matcha toppings. I went with the Matcha Supreme less sugar/25% sweet. When I saw the color of someone else's matcha drink, I could already tell that I wasn't going to like it. But I wanted to give it a try anyway, for science! We went to HeyTea on the first day of opening, and they have a BOGO free deal from today until this Sunday (7/27). We got there at noon, and there was already such a massive line. It was thoughtful that they gave us samples of their tea while we were in line. Reagan was my cashier, and she had such amazing and positive energy. I'm impressed by how cheerful she was even though there were so many customers. I ordered the mango grapefruit boom ($7.99), which was so refreshing. It had a good balance of mango and grapefruit. I also ordered the matcha cloud jasmine latte ($7.49). The matcha really helped to wake me up, and I love the cloud on top. They recommend that you twist the lid, and drink it to get all the flavors in one sip. They plan to have online order pick up, but right now they only take orders in person since they've just opened. I've been wanting to try Hey Tea ever since I heard about it. I tried to go to the location at UTC and was met with workers who ignored my presence and once they did acknowledge me, I was told that although there was no line the wait was 40 minutes so I walked out pretty bummed. However when I went to the center where this Hey Tea was located for my grad brunch I was excited to see there was another location I didn't know about and decided to try it out and had a great experience! Although this shop is smaller and seemingly has a more limited menu, it didn't affect my experience negatively at all. I ordered on a screen, but all of the workers seemed so happy and upbeat and like they genuinely enjoyed their job which is always great to see. There was a good amount of people waiting, but I got my drink in less than 10 minutes. When it comes to the actual drinks, they were super different than any other boba or tea shop I've gone to. They were defaulted to be less sweet which really allowed the flavors and toppings to shine through. I got the mango coconut bloom and it was SO unique in the best way possible. I really liked the combination of coconut milk and blended mango and the sago and coconut jelly added some super satisfying texture. My boyfriend got the red grape slush with cheese foam which I would argue was even better. I love the flavor of natural grape and feel it's super hard to find but Hey Tea did it just right. The cheese foam was the perfect compliment to the grape taking it from purely refreshing to more rich and indulgent. The flavors of the savory foam with the sweet and sour grape balanced SO well. Heytea is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. It's on the first floor btw. The store itself has a nice ambiance but no seating. Staff was nice and quick while preparing our drinks. I got the green tea with foam and it was honestly top notch. 75% sweet is the way to go, and I'm not even a sweet tea gal. I also tried their triple matcha supreme and they definitely used high quality matcha. However, I'm giving only 3 stars because it's so overpriced. Adding boba is an extra $0.99, and they gave me so little (pic below). Yes it tasted good but definitely not worth it. read more

If you're a matcha lover, you definitely need to try this place. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. The price is on the higher side, but the quality absolutely justifies it. I like the milk tea here because I don't think they use creamer. read more
