We didn't realize that Heytea was at the Del Mar Highlands and happen to be in the area. We happen to come the day they started their collaboration with PopMart's, Twinkle Twinkle. I was up north at an ornament exchange party and while driving back home, I wanted to check out a new boba shop. I found this one on yelp. My niece was with me and ended up telling me they have been dying to try this place out. We went to the Carmel Valley location. I have never been to this area before, this place was tucked in the corner by IceSkimo, Pokewan and Melo Melo Coconut dessert place. Place was popping, (Saturday night about 9:20 pm). The inside was very simplistic, the color of the walls and design were muted, no big colors/images or designs. It definitely had a Zen feel to it. I definitely could smell fresh brewed tea. You could check out the menu by scanning the QR code, or they had one posted as well up front near the counter. Drinks we ordered: 1. Triple Supreme Matcha Latte- my niece is obsessed with Matcha, so they wanted to try this one. 'Could taste matcha really well and mochi was similar to that of 3CAT's. Got 50% sweetness which was perfect. Cream was a little heavy on top, so I might not get it next time. Overall a solid drink and good matcha in the SD area. Will get again' 5/5 2. Mango Grapefruit Boom- I think the Mango boom is the most popular drink, my sister is a fan of grapefruit so I thought I'd order this one. (25% sweetness) She raved that the drink was delicious. Parking can be a little crazy depending on when you go due to the busy plaza they are located in. It always smells amazing inside, but it's usually pretty busy. Drinks I've tried here are: Cloud Crisp Grape Crisp Grape Boom Mulberry Strawberry Boom Cloud Mango Coconut Mango Boom Triple Supreme Matcha Latte While the fruit drinks here are good, I would only get the grape boom and the coconut mango boom again, as the mulberry strawberry boom had too many full size mulberries for my taste, you get a lot of large seeds while you're having this drink. The grape flavor is amazing, super refreshing if you don't want a heavier drink. The cloud mango is also a great choice if you love mango but don't enjoy coconut, you can definitely tell they use fresh, ripe mangoes in their drink. I didn't enjoy the triple supreme matcha, the quality of their matcha isn't the best in my opinion, and there isn't a strong matcha taste if you're used to matcha lattes and matcha-based drinks from Japan, or popular matcha places in OC (Airoma and Brew Story) and LA (Stagger and Damo). Update: After going in store to cancel, my card was still charged. A week later, I went through their live chat agent in-app to get a refund, and they said I'd receive my refund in 3-5 business days. Another week goes by, nothing. I go in store again during that week, and ask about it, cashier in front takes my phone number and tells me a manager would be in contact with me shortly. Fast forward another week, zilch. Pros: the location is in the heart of a Del Mar shopping center/ plaza and the front of the store has a nice little water fountain and plenty of outdoor seating. Price is average for tea shops, ranging above $7+ per drink. Parking is abundant on slow days. This plaza they're located in can get busy but you'll be able to find a spot fairly close and quickly. Note that there is no bathroom on site. Cons: there are no physical menus or QR code menus. This can be difficult for those older folks who don't use online menus prior to arriving. The screens on the back wall only show 1-2 of their most popular drinks with no menu until you reach the cash register. If you're looking to be spontaneous and order what speaks to you on the menu, you will have an awkward experience with the cashier trying to decide what to order while they stare you down. I ordered the triple matcha supreme latte and my girlfriend ordered the mango coconut bloom. The taste was too sweet, it had a unique consistency where it felt like you were drinking half cooked egg which was unappealing to me. Almost like eating a matcha flavored egg drop soup. My girlfriend's drink had the same consistency. We could not finish it due to the weird texture. Not our cup of tea. Service was not very welcoming and answered our question unenthusiastically. I had a very disappointing experience at Heytea during my first visit on July 22 around 12:30 PM. Since it was my first time ordering, I used the kiosk and had a few questions because there were many menu options. One of the choices was "Cloud Serving," and I genuinely didn't know what that meant, so I asked the employee working at the time. Instead of explaining, he looked at us as if we were asking a ridiculous question and responded with a very rude tone. Later, the kiosk asked me to choose between a PET cup and a regular cup. Again, since I wasn't familiar with the difference, I asked him for clarification. He immediately gave us another dirty look and seemed visibly annoyed that we were asking questions. I finally asked why he was giving us so much attitude, and instead of addressing the situation, he snapped at us and accused us of giving attitude at him. I honestly don't understand how asking simple questions about an unfamiliar menu could have offended him. As a first-time customer, I expected basic courtesy and a willingness to help. If someone is unable or unwilling to answer customers' questions respectfully, they should not be working in a customer service role. It's pretty amazing to see the No.1 Chinese Milk Tea brand right now in San Diego! I've had a grape drink one time in China, it was very delicious. This time, I tried 3 flavors, a light ice classic supreme matcha, a hot jasmine cheese tea and an iced mango coconut drink. All these are yummy! I can tell their ingredients are very fresh. Heard a lot of good things about this place so me and my friends decided to try. Their popular drink is this blue coconut matcha drink and they said it was really good, highly recommend. I got their brown sugar milk tea, since i'm more of a milk tea fan. This tasted more like the fresh milk brown sugar drinks out there which i'm not a fan of (not a fan of milk taste) so i give it a 6/10. One of the drinks we ordered, the magnolia cloud, they ran out of the tea mix. If Yalls even designed a whole damn app for it, I don't think it's hard to notify the customers thru the app that how many more mins for the tea mix. I saw the app stayed at 5 mins wait for way too long and decided to go ask the staff how long it'll take, the staff checked with the kitchen and then told me 8 mins. Ok. So I went to shopped around the nearby Ralph's, got back there in about 15 mins, tea mix still not done. And yup it took another more like 30 mins at least. Idk how it went from 8 mins to 30 mins honestly. I couldn't even find an option to cancel or change to another order. I literally don't have that much time to wait for boba (ended up have to cancel dinner reservation was @5 cus we ordered around 4:20 and didn't get our drink until 5:38) I have never waited that long for it. And then I saw our cup being the first one in the line to be made after the tea mix got finished. But then the staffs proceeded to make other ones first and ours were just sitting on the side. All of the other ones were getting scanned, ours after being made, just sitting on the inner counter they didn't even scanned it until very later on. Cups were not wiped cleaned either a lot of the foam thingy still on the side of the cup. The other 2 drinks that were sitting on the counter while the magnolia one was being made were all hella melted and watered down. My slushies not even slushy anymore and the other drink straight up tasted like water. Staffs weren't apologetic at all seemed like they don't give a f honestly. And then the worst part was... THIS MAGNOLIA LATTER OR WHATEVER WAS NOT EVEN GOOD. AND IT WAS MADE WITH NO EFFORT LOOKED RLY UGLY NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURE DISPLAYED. I've been to the Rowland Heights location in the past but I think they recently closed that one so I was so happy to see a location open up here in San Diego! I'm still exploring some of the menu options but I love the Grapefruit Mango Boom and the regular Coconut Mango Boom as well!
