Even though I said I'd keep it, they quickly made another cup for me and refunded me $0.50. I walked out without trying the second cup until I got to the car and it was soooooo so sweet! I tried to let the ice melt to water it down a bit, even added more coffee to it when I got home and it was still unbearably sweet. I didn't even drink 1/3 of it. We like to come here for milk tea drinks, they make great ones here. Boba milk tea, taro milk tea, Thai milk tea and sea salt green tea are our favorites. The teas here are very strong and a bit sweet, ask for less sugar if you don't like it too sweet. The Vietnamese coffee is a great choice too, especially when you need an instant wake up whenever. For food I don't recommend order entree food, we tried a few noodle and rice dishes, they were horrible. But appetizers like popcorn chicken, garlic fries and shrimp spring rolls were very tasty. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017: 52/100 I have been meaning to stop by here for their famous garlic noodles and their popcorn chicken since so many people raved about them. I even tried to twist Hubbers' arm a few times to accompany me for a visit but for whatever reason, he just didn't find anything interesting enough on their menu. So, I decided to go solo. I found parking right up front (Thank YOU, Parking GODS!) then realized I arrived about 10 minutes early. I hung out in the car, got on their free Wi-Fi and waited. I noticed a small crowd build right outside their doors. That got me even more excited because a crowd is always a good sign. DOORS OPENED! I sat in the car still and waited for the said crowd to thin out. Once there were only two people in line, I got out of the car and zoomed right in. They had a board with their daily lunch specials for $9.95. I went for the garlic noodles with beef with green iced tea. I also ordered popcorn chicken as an appetizer. I was given my number and took a seat and browsed through the take-out menu to see what I may want to try on the next visit. My drink came out a couple of minutes later. Wow, I loved that green tea. I can have gallons of it! So, it's fair to say we were off to a good start! Less than 15 minutes later, my noodles came out. I assumed my appetizer would come out first, but okay... whatever. I was famished, so I didn't bother asking for it. I figure it'll eventually find its way to my table. First bite and I immediately noticed the noodles were lukewarm. That tells me it was sitting for some time before it was brought out to me - I know this for FACT, because everyone else around me who ordered the same (or similar) noodles were delivered to them (most likely) off-the-wok smokin' hot. Mine wasn't even close. I liked the chew, though. And the beef was tender but could use more seasoning. The one flavor the garlic noodles was lacking - GARLIC. It only gave off a hint of it, but if one wasn't looking for it, you wouldn't even know it was there. I was not impressed. I've had something similar (not to mention slightly better) at a hole-in-a-wall Chinese food digs without the price tag. Regardless, it was on my table. I had it, and it wasn't horrible. And it is a lot, so I was full by the time I neared half the plate. It didn't really hit the spot, but at least my hunger subsided. Then the disappointment kicked in: I didn't get to try my app before I got too full. I finally caught the attention of a worker (who seemed a little frazzled) and asked for a "to-go box for my leftovers, and..." she gives me a nod and started walking away. She immediately realized I wasn't done talking, so she caught herself and re-focused. I told her I ordered popcorn chicken which never made it to my table and asked if she can wrap that up for me as well. She was apologetic, asked for my receipt and took it back to the kitchen. She came out with a takeout box and a plastic bag saying it'll be a minute for the popcorn chicken. Well. At least THAT came out piping hot. It was good. But not good enough for me to return. I didn't have the need for that take out menu, so I left it on the table. So glad Hubbers refused to go here, he would have been PISSED. I told him all about it and he said he would have sent the noodles back and demanded a full refund for the chicken. They certainly live up to their name. Food was ok, I got one brisket pho and one filet mignon pho and they look exactly the same and they were not labeled so I had no idea which was which. The service was also not good, I walked in and they didn't acknowledge me I just stood there at the counter while they had their heads down making drinks. I had to speak up for them to even look up. I was the only one in line so it couldn't have been that busy. I went in for a pickup order and the girl working there almost dropped my bag right in front of me twice because she picked up the plastic bag at the top with 2 fingers which was not smart at all. The cashiers were really helpful though in explaining what everything is, but I think it would be nice if I didn't have to hold up the line just because I had questions on something that could have been easily answered by a menu. Seems like they used refined wood that's been deformed for some tables, refinished chairs and stools for seats, and other type of air-sprayed painted metals to give a nice hipster vibe. If you have ever been to the Anaheim Packet District then you'll know that it has the similar feel to it. Loving it! --Entrees-- We had the pad thai with beef and popcorn chicken with fries. The Pad Thai The pad thai was amazing, with peanuts, chili flakes, and lemon on the side to adjust for your taste. Personally, we decided on adding more lemon and chili flakes, opting out and pushing the peanuts away. Surprisingly, the food was a lot than expected. The noodles itself was sweet and tangy, while at the same time, soft and smooth. If you add some more lemon juice to it, you'll definitely get more zest as well, since it adds a good amount of flavor. What I like most about this pad thai was that it's not overly sweet like in some other places, which is definitely a plus in my eyes. Popcorn Chicken and Fries Popcorn chicken came out warm and crispy. When we took a bite, it seemed like the perfect ratio of breaded crust and chicken (personally). It was not oily or hard as well, which was absolutely fantastic since other places tend to make it so. There's a crunch in every bite for sure, but also you get some good amount of protein as well! It is also complemented with ketchup, ranch, and sweet-sour sauce. The cashier will give you the option, but just ask for all three... because why not? --Boba-- Coconut Thai Tea The drink itself is silky and luscious. It's very creamy and sweet, but not too overly the top. The coconut is a bit overpowering, so it's a little difficult to taste the thai tea. However, if you do like this, you will definitely enjoy it. The boba itself was also very soft and smooth, but there were a couple of boba that clumped together like a baby child holding on to a mother for dear life. Chamoy Mango Girlfriend got this and I also took a few sips as well. If you want to satisfy your fruity side, but without all the excess sweetness from sugars, I'd take this one home. Now, I don't really know what chamoy is (though I can google it but nah lol, maybe), but the spice/seasoning, or whatever it is, adds a bit of a kick to the drink. They also have an extensive drink menu that you can order with the mason jar. Chow fun combination- they didn't add as much sauce as I would like. The variety of vegetables was a bonus. They also add a generous amount of chicken and shrimp. Pad Thai- very good and delicious; full of sauce. Highly recommend. Overall, great place to grab a quick bite. I ordered $160 worth of food and the quality was unacceptable. Particularly the rice, it was stale & dry. Leslie, who was on duty at the time told me that the rice had been made first of 13 items & was sitting under a heat lamp. Leslie then called me back and told me that the food quality was bad because Uber was delayed picking up the food, which does not make sense! The problem was the food being under the heat lamp and drying out. Even if Uber was late, had the box been sealed and placed in the bag, the rice would have sweated and been moist, not dry, crunchy & stale. The customer service of this place has really declined since opening years back, as well as the taste of the food. My girlfriend and I usually come here atleast 3x/week. We cut it down to once a week, and lately once a month. We particularly come for their shaken beef, popcorn chicken and thai. I talked to one of the associates in the counter, he gave me my food and states that they will need to make our drink. No problem. This is not so much of a follow-up review as it is a complaint. First of all, the overall atmosphere and food at this restaurant has changed very little since it opened. What has changed, however, is that the staff has continued to become more and more lacking in customer service and overall aptitude for their occupation. My most recent experience was an ideal example of this. To tell the story, we ordered two orders of Pho and two Vietnamese iced coffees. They took our order and we were seated waiting for the order to arrive. One of the staff members brought the ice coffee, no problem. They then brought out one of the two orders of Pho we ordered. We inform them to the fact that we had ordered two. The staff member immediately said that the second one was on its way. We waited and waited and nothing. Finally, we went back and inquired about the second order. Again, we were told that it was on its way. We waited some more and still nothing. Again, we went back in and asked about our order and again we were told that it was on its way and it would be there very soon. Twenty minutes past and finally the cashier who originally took our order comes to our table and said that she had only placed an order for one Pho not two. But, if we ordered another one it would be out in five minutes or less. Obviously, she was not concentrating on her job and had not heard the order as it was placed. What could we do? We ordered another Pho and paid for it. Approximately fifteen minutes later the second order of Pho was finally brought to our table. The worker who brought it put it down and rudely asked if we needed anything else. Obviously, this was way too long to wait for the mistake made by the cashier as the original order of Pho had become completely cold by this point in time. I get it, businesses like to hire young help so they can pay them minimum wage. But, without proper management oversight and if the people that are working here do not do their jobs correctly and/or do not care about the customers the business will quickly lose their customer base. Came here yesterday, Sunday mid-afternoon. Place wasn't that busy with but the wait for our 3 drinks was ridiculously terrible. I know their service here is usually super slow, but yesterday they just completely forgot to make our drinks. Anyways, one of their famous dishes is the garlic noodles with shaken beef. I ordered that to go since the place can be a bit small during peak hours. The garlic noodles were good and had the right texture to it (not too firm or too soggy). The shaken beef with the onions were flavorful however I just didn't like how everything was very oily. It seems that I spoke way too soon about this place. We came in hoping to get a repeat meal of what we had last time and we hit a bunch of obstacles when placing our order. When I asked to get the garlic noodles with no oil, the cashier checked with the kitchen staff to make sure that it was possible. He came back and told us that the cooks need oil to cook and they use fish oil. We explained that the last time we were there, they recommended we order garlic noodles without the oil for that exact reason. It was on the receipt and everything. He wouldn't budge but mostly because he was at the mercy of the cooks. As we stepped to the side to seek vegan alternatives, we noticed one major detail on the printed menu. They no longer serve the Vegan Egg Rolls. So I we inquired about the Crispy Tofu Bites. But again, it is cooked in fish oil. I was so frustrated, comparing this to our last experience when the employees were so helpful making sure I had vegan alternatives. That's when our cashier explained that they recently had a big meeting enforcing some rules. It turns out, cashiers were freely modifying orders for customers that the cooks could not fulfill. Such as "no oil." But the cooks would end up ignoring it. I guess their solution is to not modify anymore. Now this begs the question: Did I eat fish oil Garlic Noodles last time??? (To be fair, there was nothing fishy-tasting about it so I'm still REALLY confused!) I suppose I appreciate our cashier's transparency. It is located a upcoming town home facility right off Carson St, before Avalon St. Every time a new drink shop opens up, I am always so excited to check it out! I happily got to try Hiccups upon coming back to town from a work trip. Walking in I was charmed with Hiccups right from the start. The interior is bright and clean and there's a happy vibe with the music they were playing. I loved the lighted marquee that has the restaurants name along with the gigantic menu that shows all their food and drink offerings! Yes, they have both food and drinks here! They have a variety of food offerings and it is a nice touch to the coffee/boba shop. I like that they have a variety of food. Among their offerings are popcorn chicken, sriracha sizzling fries, crispy mushrooms, pho soups, tom kay hot pots and chow fun! The menu drink is also rather extensive. From iced teas to iced milk teas to mojitos, smoothies, slushies , hot lattes and hot chocolates, there is a drink for every one! One of the best things I found at hiccups however was their lunch specials! For $8.95, you can choose from a filet mignon pho, vermicelli, fried rice or garlic noodles entree and alongside with this get a green tea, mango tea or black tea. This is a great deal! My friend and I chose to get the chicken fried rice lunch special and the garlic noodles with beef lunch special. We both got mango iced teas. The food portions were pretty good and they put a lot of meat in both the fried rice and the garlic noodles! Tastewise, everything was tasty. I ate here recently with a co worker, their prices are way too high. We got rice, egg, popcorn chicken (which is made with dark meat = cheaper) Came out to $15 per person. Rice and 1 egg costs nothing to be honest, maybe a dollar. Their portion size is okay for the price, but there are much better places for the price to food ratio. High prices, they are blasting rap music in there, which isn't a neutral vibe to other people eating. Prices are going up indeed, but they should adjust their price accordingly.
