I like Hickory Roasters. It's a great value! It's menu and servings are modeled after Boston Market, however, with some important differences: there are more menu items to choose from, the food seems "fresher" and the portions are LARGER. We like to go to "mom n pop" places and HR is good quality, hearty food with friendly service. My favorite sides are the pasta salad, potato salad (with eggs on top), roasted potatoes and spanish rice. My favorite entrees are chicken strips, pot roast, shrimp basket, chicken salad croissant and gyro. The chicken, obviously, is very good and their speciality. I'm not a huge rib person but I hear they're awesome and they do run specials quite a bit. My wife loves the pot roast, the potato salad and several other items. Not very fancy but reasonably clean. Very casual but with the "real" plates, cups and silverware, it's definitely a better alternative to the over-played Boston Market. read more

Everything is homemade. Chef has been here for 18 years and it's family owned. Wood Roasted Chicken is great and tastes exactly as it did when I was here 10+ years ago. Great seasoning, crispy skin and moist meat. We also had the ribeye sandwich which was so so good. Grilled perfectly and seasoned right, we were delighted. The worst experience ever!!!!! We placed a large order and the food we received was inedible. 5 people ordered food and no one was satisfied. No one even ate their meal. The mashed potatoes looked like instant potato flakes, the ribs were burnt to a crisp. The roasted potatoes were grey. The chicken for the sandwiches and wraps was grey. We were all afraid we would get food poisoning if we ate it. The person on the food was extremely rude when we called to voice our complaints. They refused to issue a refund and offered a store credit instead. Again, none of the food was consumed. The owner finally agreed to issue refunds for the, but he said that he would block our number and would refuse our business in the future. Have to say i visited them around almost 2 years ago on a nice summer Sunday in there closing hours and had still a great tasting chicken moist and great sides. As soon as you walk in the amazing smell of roasted chicken smacks you in the face and makes your mouth water. They have plenty of options to choose from but anyone (even the staff) will tell you to order the chicken and believe me, you'll want to trust them. Depending on whether you order the half or the full, portion sizes range from generous to holy crap where am I going to put all of that?!! The counter staff is very friendly and helpful. Today August 8, 2017 my co-worker and I ordered lunch which neither of us enjoyed. I had the half or quarter chicken with two sides the chicken wasn't bad but the sides were awful. The tomato cucumber salad had over ripe tomatoes and mushy cucumbers. The Mac and Cheese was watery and from a box. My co-worker had the chicken burrito it wasn't good i.e. lacked flavor and they forgot the gravy on the potatoes. Oops tortilla was slimy! We walked in and the owner acted like we were inconveniencing her. She was incredibly dry and rude to us. The food was terrible and tasted like it was leftovers and was way too expensive for what it was. The restaurant itself seemed dirty. Gross food, dirty place, and one of the rudest people ever; you can bet we will never be back and will make sure to tell everyone about our experience. After reading some reviews on here it sounds like other people have had the same issues with this awful woman and they should have a visit from the health department. We've been here twice and the chicken was fantastic. I'm not a fan of the sides. Very disappointing sides. However, if you don't want to just eat chicken grab the mash potatoes. Did I go to the wrong place? I can't even imagine how anyone with taste buds could eat here. The staff is very friendly but that's it. The food is cafeteria grade at best and frankly just disgusting. The chicken was smoked and dried out like it had been sitting for days. The display of sides looked like the cafeteria at Ikea. Everything looked fake and obviously it had been reheated several times. The corn was the most bland corn I have ever tasted.When you ate it was juicy full of water because it had probably been sitting for days. The roasted potatoes had a kick yet they were bland.How can you mess up potatoes? The mac and cheese was definitely out of a box. After a couple bites of each item I was so grossed out I ended up throwing it all away. To top it off for the next day I had the worst stomach ache. Why anyone goes here beats me. One dish: Buiscuits and gravy. That is the entrée to get. They take a freshly made buscuit, put some white gravy with chunks of chicken on it. Then you get two sides...I usually get mashed potatoes and the other cut up potatoes (greek I think). They are great! With a water I believe this quality meal is about 6 bucks! Been eating here on and off for the past 20 years. I have only eaten the roasted chicken and I have never had a bad meal, the value is outstanding. This is basic American fare, not gourmet just good basic tasting food, a working mans restaurant . The chicken is well seasoned and it is served hot as are all the hot sides. The sides taste homemade because they are .... they serve real vegetables, real potatoes, and real macaroni and cheese. Important, the food is served on real stoneware plates with metal utensils, no paper plates or plastic forks and knives! The portions are ample, you don't get the idea that they are worried about portions when they take a large serving ladle and scoop out the sides, 2X minimum. You will not walk away hungry. read more

A friend brought us here once, and I am now a huge fan of Hickory Roasters! Here's why: 1) Price: Single dollar sign! Most anything you get will cost around or under $10, which is really a good deal since it fills me up quite nicely (a 250 pound 25 yr old man). When you are on a budget and hungry, most of the options that fit your budget won't leave you feeling too great (Taco Bell, Culvers, Steak & Shake, etc.) For the price range, Hickory Roasters gives you a meal that tastes like it's homemade, and doesn't leave you bankrupt. But before I go on to the food itself, something has to be said about the stars. 4 stars for a $10 plate of food cannot be compared to 4 or 5 stars to a $50 plate of food. They are different categories altogether. I really enjoy a fancy meal, don't get me wrong, but Hickory Roasters is a local homestyle restaurant, full stop. You get what you pay for, and in my opinion, it is a great value. 2) Food: I can only speak to the namesake dish (Hickory Roasted chicken) and a few sides, but I have eaten here roughly 10-12 times in the past couple of years and it is fairly consistent. There are times when the chicken is a little dry, but that's only because the food is cooked by real people and not pre-cooked / frozen or made by some high-tech machine that fast food conglomerates use. The hickory smoke is apparent in the chicken, and really gives some flair to the overall home-cooked feel. The seasoning on the chicken skin has the perfect balance of salt and spice. The corn muffin is sweet and soft, and there are a variety of sides worth trying (papas/potatoes a la diabla, baked beans, Spanish rice, apple crisp, to name a few). My favorite thing to get is Spanish rice and apple crisp. Both of these sides could easily be made at home, but that's the beauty of it! Warm apple crisp has bits of granola mixed in, and is sweet, but not overpowering, which makes it the ideal dessert dish. 3) Atmosphere: I've eaten in at Hickory Roasters before, and I've never had a bad experience. Seeing all the hickory wood stacked outside and beside the rotisserie is a bonus, as is the smell of the smoke from the roasting chickens. It's not spotless, but it's fairly clean on the inside. 4) Service: Hickory Roasters falls in the genre of cafeteria / Chipotle / Boston Market food service. I love Hickory Roasters and so does my 95-year old mom! I'm a vegetarian, so I get their 4-side sampler to go. Love their mac & cheese, green beans (in tomato sauce), coleslaw and garlic potatoes. YUM! I also love their corn muffins. I get my mom the same 4-side sampler and she's a happy camper for several days. As she says, "It's like good home cooking."
