Steak subs are the best period. Lately I've been eating the Crab cake sandwich and they are fantastic. Make sure you get the fries with brown gravy, and a beer or ice cold coke . I drive in from Winchester Virginia every year to Ocean City, a real sleeper place. read more

Food was great - especially for the price. Cheesesteak was finely chopped, bread was soft and yummy. Onion rings were good as well. Live music and TVs showing all sports and entertainment also made for a nice visit. Service was okay. We did not get a lot of check ins after our food was served but it was no biggy. Def recommend. I got the cheesesteak with whiz and grilled onions and pepperoncini peppers. The bread roll was perfectly crunchy which augmented the quality of the cheesesteak. Beyond the great food, the service was top notch. We had zero wait time to order drinks, three servers were constantly checking in on our table, and the food came out quick. Nice happy hour prices from 11-7. The beer was fresh and cold. The rolls for the cheesesteak were excellent. Told they were sent from Philadelphia. Wish the filling would have matched the rolls. Overcooked to the point of very dry. Cooper sharp was missing in action. They do offer lots of additions to the cheesesteak without any added cost. Good pour for the house wine. Crushes were average. Went for the Birds game.Local and we like the cheesesteaks. 24 degrees outside and windy. Every table was seated and the crew was running around. One of the servers decided to open both front doors. Again 24 degrees outside. After atleast 30 minutes half the place has thier winter coats on. You could clearly see most customers were cold. I asked the individual behind the bar if I could close one door for a few minutes. Her(he?) responded " we are the one's running around not you!" If you have zero concern for any of your customers, then I can not respect you. Unlike many tables the 6 of us were eating and having drinks, not just taking up a table to watch the game. I'm an Eagles fan and was visiting Fenwick Island, and in need of a likeminded bar of birds fans. Found a nice bar with really fun Eagles fans. Unfortunately there is a short stocky smart ass bar tender that killed it. Did not catch his name, as I was obviously ignored, he looked at me and didn't acknowledge me. Only after the other bartenders noticed the behavior of the portly bar tender, they came over. The woman sitting next to me warned me, that he blew them off, and was annoyed when they asked for a drink. The other bartenders were cool. Unfortunately for this bar they have an angry stumpy bartender who is the direct reason for my 3 star review, which would be 5 stars if he didn't have such a bad attitude. read more

Place was clean and bartender was nice enough, just not over the top. Asked the bartender what kind of French fries they had. I asked him if they were Krinkle cut or anything different about them. He said no, just regular frozen fries. They were the disgusting fries that were coated in flour, potato starch and tapioca. Good thing I don't have a gluten problem! I ate 2 of the whole basket and mentioned to him they were not regular French fries when I asked for my check. And he still insisted well, they are still frozen fries with an attitude. If he would have stopped over to ask me how my food was after it was delivered, he would have found out and possibly rectified the issue. But never came back until I asked for the check. And then the other bartender comes out and stands right near me and made a comment for me to hear "top of the line fries here". You'd never know that Kayla, Jess and Chris were busy covering both the bar and tables, because they were patient, highly attentive, informative (re: what to order), friendly, good-humored, and speedy! My family has been going to High Stakes for many years. Last night I was appalled with our experience and really hesitate to go back. The main reason was that the place seemed filthy. As soon as we walked in there was a smell in the whole place that I couldn't quite place but it smelled rancid. I later discovered that it was the smell of vomit which I saw in the bathroom urinal. Not sure how long it had been there but it was disgusting nonetheless. Our order took nearly 45 minutes to arrive and when it did, some items were cold. There were flies landing all over the food. When we asked what was taking so long we were told they didn't have their summer help and the kitchen was backed up. That's understandable and could be looked over but the cleanliness and smell of the restaurant could not. Oh and I also saw a server bring another table a glass of wine with his thumb over the top of the glass where you drink. Gross. read more

Love the Happy Hout here so we (4) stopped in for a couple of drinks. There wasn't room for 4 at the bar so we sat at a table. Our waiter (long gray pony tail guy) was extremely rude to us. I ordered cheeseburger sliders and they were bigger than i expected and one of the best burgers I've had. very worth the $18. The only helpful criticism that I would provide is if you order a cheesesteak with fried onions, order extra onions because the onions were hard to find, meaning the chef was very frugal with the onions. The vibe is very casual but the staff is friendly and willing to make just about any cocktail or well drink you please. They offers tons of specials and particularly the happy hour deals from 11-7pm are of special importance between drinks and meals. I ordered the Buffalo chicken wrap and it was delicious. Best cheesesteak in an area that KNOWS what a real Philly cheesesteak is. (The famed Tony Luke's franchise has a great location but LAME sandwiches here. ) High Stakes is not on any list of "great" or "best" anything in Ocean City. Shame. I couldn't google it. I had to ask around to find it again. They didn't grease the right palms to make any of the "Best of..." lists... know what I mean? And nobody will see what I'm typing now because this place is soooo underground. But they really do have THE BEST cheesesteaks in Ocean City. Their location itself is a dive bar but your near the ocean so DIVE. This isn't a kitschy "dive bar" but an honest DIVE BAR. This is not a cute mockery but the real deal. I'm not sure why I never appreciated just how cheap the prices are here. The cheesesteak has such a generous portion of meat that on even an empty stomach, half of the cheesesteak is enough for a proper meal. You essentially end up with 2 meals for $9! To add to that, if you come during happy hour (11am - 7pm EVERYDAY), rail drinks are $3.25, which is already cheaper than their discounted pickle fries during that time! Our bill ended up being barely $15 per person with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. If that's not a deal, I don't know what is. Although this place is easily 5 stars in my book, I have to dock it one given the fact that despite COVID times, the bar was PACKED. I never thought I'd be saying High Stakes is now one of the only places in the area with a vegan option (besides a salad of course). They now have the Beyond Burger, just labeled as "vegan burger" on their menu. The problem is that it comes on a non-vegan brioche roll, and comes with cheese unless you specify otherwise. So the menu is deceiving. The beyond burger is an amazing alternative to beef, tastes so much like the real thing. I ordered mine with no cheese, on a sub roll (the shape means it has to be cut in half) I diced it up so it would fit better. This is a favorite place for all non-vegans because of their outstanding wings and cheese steaks!!! But it's so dang loud and always crowded with old people. read more

Stopped in here for a take-out cheesesteak the other night on my way home. The steak was excellent; the roll was hard on the outside, and nice and soft inside; the steak had tons of flavor, as did the onions. My only complaint is that I could barely taste the cheese.
