Horrible service! Do not trust advertised prices as you may be overcharged without explanation…read more I ordered the 10pc leg/thigh /5 catfish family meal for $24.99. Was told $27.30 total ; will be ready in 25 mins. Drove up; order repeated but not price. Gave credit card. Was charged an extra $1.22. Instead they charged $25.99 plus tax. I disputed the charge. Jr said "it's the new machine don't worry about it". I told him to refund the difference. Sr said he can't change the register so he will give the refund. I said fine. In a grumpy voice, Sr said " you got the food- give me the food and you get a full refund." I said ok since $1.22 is not the refund due. I happily gave him the crispy bread crust so- called catfish. Did not look like catfish. I gave him the tasty fries and salty scalped bird pieces. So thankful that Sr wanted this aluminum tray back. I give up on this place. No more chances.

You might try with a side of shrimp, but honestly, the fish with the grits gets the job done-- it's so yummy! You will be ready for a sweet little nap after :) The inside is cute, not overly large, but comfortable enough with a pretty good playlist and sometimes they have a DJ. The drinks are good too! Pro tip: order the spicy margarita (I forget the actual name) and enjoy it WITH the lime! I nibbled little bits of lime and sipped the drink. That was a whole experience for me and I think that others should be so fortunate to have such a tasty treat! Something about the tart lime, the spice they use, and the drink, can't quite put my finger on it, but it's a YES for me! Also tried the mimosa flight. Important that you stir them all first to get the full flavor. My favorite is the lavender. That soul waffle they have on the menu (not pictured) is so unique, you might not think to order it, but I had a taste of that too and I was amazed! The chef knows what he is doing back there!

The food is dang near trash, the service is trasher!! I've yet to understand how people apply for a job they clearly want and then are horrible at that role!! I NEED servers to understand and hear me CLEARLY, you DO NOT get paid if there are no customers. So next time, you're having a bad day, please go in the restroom and get yourself together and then come back and serve the people with a pleasant attitude AND smile on your face. As far as I'm concerned be an actress for the day if that helps. Came to Sage for a friend's birthday brunch. Sitting was fine as she had reservations. Mind you, we were close to end of closing time (they accepted the reservation) but that's NO EXCUSE for running out of food items. Who's doing inventory? Just asking, or how about send someone to Kroger to get the missing items. People need to learn to be creative and think outside the box vs "we out of erthing". As I was saying, immediately hit us with, "last call for food is at 2:30p and we're out dang near everything". WTF...fine let me order the stuff no one wants. I ordered the shrimp and grits and asked if the tails could be removed. You would have thought I asked for someone to sign the Bill of Rights. A simple, "I'll put that request in with the kitchen" would have sufficed instead of telling me "what they don't normally do". I don't normally tip when I get bad service but yet when you're in large party you have to, so go figure. The Shrimp and grits were BASIC; where's the Gouda cheese (I was told it's a "sauce", NO!! I want to TASTE my cheese). I stuck with water in fear of "we don't have XYZ". Luckily the table company was great because the service nor the food was NOT. Oh I'll add this bit, a guest at the table was told "they were out of French Toast" (mind you it's bread, can the chef cook, asking for a friend). At least two orders of French Toast came out after this notice. . Then they served us plastic ware!!! Have you know anyone to eat S&Gs with plastic ware, not to self, start traveling with my own utensils. I'm all about cleanliness but come on, some dishes deserve proper cutlery. Then two guest arrived later and ordered French Toast. Wait, we thought you were out? Waitress: "Oh the cook made a mistake and you already had paced your order." Excuse, Miss Ma'am, where do they do that? Free Lesson here: come back to the table and notify the guest there was an error and ASK if they'd like to change their order. I promise you that will take your server experience far!! So I say, if you couldn't care less about exceptional service or food, this is your place!!! Just not for me; excuse me for expecting more out of some restaurants (fill in the blank).

Later during the meal, he admits that Momma's is one of his spots, so that's saying a lot. It sort of looked like another bar/restaurant from the outside, but they have a nice outdoor patio overlooking an old decrepit building which is at least some scenery. Once inside, you'll quickly see it's highly decorated and has a claim to be one of the only trucker themed bars in the US. Inside is decked out to the ceilings with signs, neon, old mirrors, collectibles, and many other items. I swear it looks like it's been in business for 30+ years, but my client said only a couple of years. I looked over the basic menu and saw burgers, breakfast, salads, sandwiches, a famous pork chop, wings and a few other items. The client and my colleague quickly ordered devilled eggs, cheese curds, and chili cheese fries. The first two apps were really good, I didn't try the fries though. They had a burger of the day, and a food special of the day, but I settled on the wings. With those I chose the 10 pc, Buffalo with dry rub, smoked. Kind of a weird combination since most people usually order dry here apparently, but I like saucy wings. When they come out, they are huge and I knew I wouldn't be able to finish them. I think I could only eat 6-7. My colleague had a ribeye steak salad which was a protein bomb he loved, and my 2 clients ordered a big rig grilled cheese which he also loved and a fried chicken sandwich (firebird) which looked really good. Overall, I really liked this place and it's one of the best meals I've had in Memphis the handful of times I've visited.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

I've passed by 7 Mares for years, riveted by the sweet murals with sharks, mermaids, and Mexican dishes painted in the windows, and yet paralyzed by thoughts of a massive language barrier, or a filthy establishment, or something darker - with fear driving my fantasies inevitably to a cartel-style execution awaiting me inside. But I've also imagined it to be the next great Mexican restaurant in town, which I'm on a continual quest to find. I finally got the nerve to go in today, and I was worried for all the wrong reasons. Make no mistake, this IS a dicey part of town. There is a lot of, uh, colorful foot traffic. (El 7 Mares shares its building with a small corner store.) But 7 Mares is an oasis from the outside. No record scratched when I walked in. It was cheerful (with plenty of Halloween decorations adding spirit) and clean enough upon a cursory inspection. I was greeted warmly in fluent English. Even the TV was airing a program in English. (Red flag?) There were several (diverse!) tables of customers in the small front room, with a few people at the tin-roofed bar. I was very relieved to have my assumptions proved wrong. Sadly, the disappointing part of my experience was the food. I have to say that I didn't find the next great Memphis Mexican food today. I went with a safe, standard choice for me: enchiladas suizas with a side of guacamole. Chicken was the only option for these enchiladas. 7 Mares provides free chips and salsa. The salsa was average at best, and the guacamole I ordered was subpar. The salsa reminded me of Los Picosos - not bad, but not my type. I can't verbalize the flavor, but I think it's a combination of sweet and tangy. And quite mild. The guacamole was really creamy, as if it had been mixed with sour cream. Again, edible, just "unnatural" and not very good. I haven't had the processed grocery store guacamole in many years, but this didn't seem too far from what I remember of that stuff. As far as the enchiladas, they were not a good example in my experience. The menu mentioned a tomatillo sauce (that's what defines the dish, right?), but I swear there was nothing but cheese on these. And a ton of it at that. The chicken was good - tender and well seasoned with peppers cooked in. But these weren't the enchiladas suizas I've grown to love. I'll keep going to Playitas when I'm craving those. I may end up giving 7 Mares another try, but there are a ton of proven restaurants in the vicinity - Macon and Summer to the southeast - that already have my loyalty. Things would have to improve dramatically for me to come back a third time.
