Yummy food, good price. Service could be a little bit better but it's not entirely bad

I went here a few months ago and I must say that this was the WORST Caribbean restaurant I've tried (I eat a lot of Caribbean food)... Thinking about the Mac N Cheese literally make me sick to my stomach. It taste more American made than Caribbean made. Customer service isn't the best either. I've been meaning to leave a review for this place for a while but definitely not worth the try unless you want something cheap and unofficial. read more

Nice attitudes, fast service. The chicken may have been grilled too long as the thighs were stiff, but nice and spicy how I like it. I never had cabbage with a whole garlic clove, love garlic, but I think a whole clove in a side of cabbage is a bit strong. The yellow rice was great! I'm cheap, so the large stewed beef plate that I planned to share was out of the range I wanted to pay. I rolled up not expecting much. But the prices made me try it out. $5 for entree with two sides is hard to beat. So got the jerk chicken, rice&beans and mac&cheese. I was pleasantly surprised to note that rice & beans was included as filler underneath the jerk chicken and was enough for two sides. But it turned out to be nothing special. Almost flavorless. I might try the other rice they have next time. Next I tried the Spicy Beef Patty, which wasn't actually that spicy. But at $1.25 it was priced well. The mac & cheese was fresh and hot but they decided to put veggies in it which I didn't realize til it was plated. Oh well, tried it, hate it. The pasta was overcooked and the veggie cheese was weird. So what saved this meal? The jerk chicken wings! They were the right amount of spicy, large size, with wings so tender the meat fell off the bone. Well done. Overall the food wasn't great except for the wings, the service was good, the place was clean and the prices were excellent compared to other Caribbean places. read more

I hadn't been at this spot in a while. I was craving Jamaican food. I ordered large oxtail which was $19 and a large curry goat for $17. Both plates were disgusting. No seasoning in the meat. The rice was dried out. Taste like they just threw cooked meat in sauce. I wouldn't feed this food to my dog. I tried to call them and complain but the number online is disconnected. So I will dispute the $41 charge with my bank and see if they can get in touch with Hilltop. You try to support black businesses only to be served slop! read more

I Went here on Saturday to get some jerk chicken/ ox tails didn't look good, so.... I order the jerk chicken started eating and the taste was horrible rice and peas , collars greens had no favor at all, and there was hair in my food... First time going to Hilltop Caribbean Grill. I ordered oxtail...told I could only order a large. No problem. When I get home and realize the oxtail is full of fat, tough, and not edible I was disgusted with the entire meal. I could only eat 3 small bones from this entire meal. This is literally the best Jamaican restaurant in the Atlanta area. This was the FIRST Jamaican restaurant to have JERK WINGS . Normally it's only the thighs from Jamaican joints. The HOMEMADE crafted tonic drinks and the carrot cakes make this place stand out. The seafood (especially the snapper) . The jerk fried rice is probably the most unique dish. This is the worst so called Caribbean food! The server was horrible! My lady ordered the curry chicken and cabbage and yellow rice. THE mean server right away said no cabbage. Instead of checking in the kitchen she just wanted to serve us whatever was displayed. When it was time for me to order, some cabbage arrived and the evil server did not even offer to switch out my collards. To make a long story short, the food was bland and nasty. The curry chicken did not taste like curry. The ox tails were horrible. Do not call yourself carribean if you can't cook! Do not eat here! read more

I came into this establishment as a visitor to Atlanta from Jamaica, W.I. I wanted to have a cultural dish while here in the states. I walked in and there was a young lady behind the counter whom wasn't wearing gloves, collecting money and also fixing the food. This is VERY, VERY UNSANITARY #1 HEALTH WISE and #2 during this COVID PANDEMIC. How is it that she's handling dirty money and making food with no gloves and not washing her hands? She didn't even attempt to walk near the sink to wash her hands. This is just extremely nasty and unsanitary. This is how people get sick and could possibly die from bacteria and other things. I WOULD NOT EAT from a place like this so I walked out. Once customers walk in this establishment, there is NO GREETING, NO SMILES, NO NOTHING but they want you to spend your money to purchase their food. Absolutely NOT! These people have a lot to learn about business. I was totally disappointed and was expecting to have a great experience at this restaurant. I've been coming here on and off for several years. The food used to be so on point. The last few times I've visited I've noticed the taste of the food has declined. The jerk fried rice isn't jerked, but it looks good. The jerk chicken isn't jerked either. Instead, it's bathed in red pepper flakes to make it spicy. That's not jerk!! I also had the brown stew chicken, which was also flavorless. I'm so disappointed. I don't know if they've changed cooks or what but I don't plan to return any time soon. I hate to do this, but this place is not good at all. Yes, the food is hot and etc. but the Curry Chicken meal I had was so tasteless. I could have made what I ate. Oh My Goodness!! I discovered this place about 2 weeks ago and have been back at least 5 times!! Their food is phenomenal! I'm pregnant so I'm a little picky about food and it doesn't take much for some food to rub me the wrong way. But this place is by far the best Caribbean spot I've been to. Whoever was working on 1/21/16 at night was absolutely rude and horrible. My fiance and I walked in and it was immediate unprofessionalism. I have no energy to type everything up but all I can say is we've been going here for 2 years and will NEVER be back again. The food may be good but the stank service trumps it. Thats all. read more

We tried this spot last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. We went for an early lunch so there was no crowd. The food itself was good along with the portions. The Atmosphere is cool and laid back. If you don't want to take a trip to memorial drive then this is a good spot to grab some Ox tails. read more

I have eaten at Hilltop Caribbean Grill at least twice a month for either lunch or dinner and have had nothing but amazing meals. I went to the Caribbean islands for a week last August and everything that I ate while visiting those islands was great, so when I came back I wanted to compare it to Hilltop's. Hilltop never disappoints, the food is equally as good as the food in the islands. I have had the jerk chicken, ox tails and the curry, and I have never had a bad experience. I'm not into fast food and with limited restaurants in this area, this is my go to spot. read more

I usually order their curry chicken with jerk fried rice and mixed veggies. The price and curry and jerk fried rice are great. I love the curry shrimp but call ahead for that. The veggies, mixed and cabbage, can use some seasoning. I airways have to add my own. Also, it seems like every other time that I go, there's a sight price difference or the plantains (which I also love) aren't included. The last time I went however, all of the good was sub par. They had a sign that they were looking for a cook, maybe that's why. I like this place better than their competitor across the street, though I'm not crazy about either of their jerk but, I probably won't be visiting again until that sign for a cook comes down. The worst cornmeal porridge I've had in my life I eat porridge at least 3 times per week never had any so bad will never order again.

This place is horrible. When it first opened ingredients were fresh display fresh. Conch fritters serving is 1/4 what it used to be. Nothing in there smells of authentic Jamaican food. Jerk wings are basic with no homemade jerk sauce... Marginal at best. Plantains OMG, probably the most horrible thing on the menu. Hard and cooked in old oil. I am really ashamed to recommend this place to any friends as authentic Jamaican.. Oxtails, not good to be that expensive. Based on my experience with this restaurant, I will not be going back nor recommending it to anyone. read more

I walked in during a non busy time and interrupted the meal of the clerks. The younger one look annoyed, as she got up, didn't wash her hands, touched her face, did not use gloves then rushed me along in a very unfriendly manner. She never smiled and several times, when she did not get an immediate response, used a very irritated tone to repeat her question. She forgot to put plantain in one of my meals and did not ring up two drinks that my children asked very audibly if they could could have along with my affirmitive. The other clerk startled me once with one of her very loud grunting and slurping noises while enjoying her meal in the dining area right next to the ordering line. Not to mention, several large flies were flying around the restauarant with no fly control mechanism in sight. Both clerks gave me scowling glances throughout my entire time walking to sit down, eating and getting up to take my daughter to the restroom. I have eaten here before. The food and service has always been good. These two ladies today, however, have no business dealing with the public whatsoever. They need some serious customer service and etiquette training. read more

This place has the perfect ambiance and customer service. The food is delicious. My husband and I loved it so much we ate here three times in less than two days and that's just eating vegetarian options. Can't wait to taste the chicken. Oh and the portions? SO RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!!! I work nearby and have coined this place as "my spot". I crave the food even on weekends. There are few places you can go these days and get a fresh, delicious meal for less than $7, but you can here! The sweet and sour chicken, jerk fried rice and cabbage is my go-to combination, but I like the jerk chicken and brown stew chicken too. The jerk fried rice, though, is where it's at! If you have some extra time during your meal, get them to make you their conk fritters. They make them fresh, so it takes a little time, but it's well worth it with the crispy conk goodness that you get. Try this place; you will not be disappointed! read more
