I hate to be the downer and be the only one to give them 3 stars but personally, I don't enjoy their donuts because they are more of the cake textured donuts. Not for me but if I were a cake donut person, I'm sure they are really tasty! The donuts are a bit too dense. Nothing against their business or anything, just personal preference. We got their chocolate bar and the donut holes. My fiancé's brother got the cheese danishes and he loves them. Why come to Hing Donuts when there is a world famous bakery just down the road? Because Mrs Hing KNOWS HER DONUTS!! Oh man these were some of the very best donuts we've had in a long time! Hing Donuts offers baked donuts in addition to all the normal fried donuts. This is a HUGE + for us! They offer several different type of donuts so plenty to pick from! Trust me on this one! There isn't a whole lot more that I can write that the other reviews haven't already said. One thing others have left out, and maybe it is because they just haven't noticed, but Hings has blueberry donuts. If you are from Orange County, you know all the hub-bub around M&M donut shop in Anaheim and their ridiculous line where people wait over 2 hours to get some blueberry donuts. Well to be totally honest, the blueberry donuts here at Hings are 10 times better and there is never a line. And try one of my favorites...a "baked" danish. They look kinda funky, but they are really, really amazing. I would have to go along with everyone when I say, skip Schats for the donuts and danishes. Schats is good, but you should never go there instead of Hings. read more

Take it over Starbucks!!! Hing's is a Bishop institution, and their coffee is better anyway. Nostalgic push for the soft of heart: when I was a little kid, my dad would take me here as a treat once a month or so. I'd get the chocolate donut with rainbow sprinkles and while he gossipped with the boys I'd sneak sips of his coffee. By the time he dropped me off at kindergarten I was sugarbombed and ready to terrorize my teachers for the day. Hing's is Bishop's only donut shop, and it's important enough in the local culture that when it reopened in its new location after the Cottonwood Plaza shut down, it made the front page of the local paper. Above the fold. "Bishop Happy to have Hing's Reopen" :) They have good donuts, and now they are next to Starbuck's, so you can get good coffee to go with your donuts. My favorite thing are their baked apple fritters - better than the regular ones! They have ice cream, too, and cool tee shirts. read more

My in-laws were in town and they, of course, wanted to check out Schatts, which I find to be good for what it is, but I think Hing's makes much better donuts, so I offered that we do a taste test. I picked up a couple plain donuts from Hings and we compared them to the same from Schatt's, the Hings had so much more flavor, hands-down winner!!! Dirty Dirty Dirty. Woman who serves donuts and ice cream sneezed on her hands, then passes her hand through the water for a split second without use of soap then touches the ice cream cone with a thin napkin. Her ice cream scoop is sitting in the dirty sink where all the dirty water passes through, barely rinses it, then scoops the ice cream. Disgusting. When I confronted her, she lied but realized I saw what happened, then yells at me "do you still want ice cream??"... Health Dept should really check this place out. read more

Best donuts in town for sure (YES that includes the overrated Schat's). Their glazed donuts are SOOO good, easily the best I've had in my life. Don't go home without ordering one (or twelve...). Fun fact: their coffee is better than Starbucks (next door) and cheaper too. The owners are super nice people. Just don't get the boba... I love everything else here, but they don't sell enough of the boba, so the tapioca balls are pretty hard and chewy (a bummer, because there's no good boba places for like.... four hours). read more

Another reviewer didn't like the apple fritter. I like my fritters extra moist. These guys delivered. Extra moist and really sweet. Prices are okay, but not a super bargain. We paid just under five bucks for the fritter, a maple bar and a large coffee. Coffee was pretty good Definitely better than braving the Sunday morning line at Schats! read more

Hing's is simply the best. An "uber" donut shop with nothing healthy in the display case and early in the morning a gang of locals sitting in the booths solving the world's problems. The donuts are traditional, fresh and great. I try to limit my visits so that I don't weigh 400 pounds, but it is a great place to visit and, as noted in another review, the Hings are incredibly hard working people. This place is dangerous. In our four day stint in the Bishop area, my traveling partner and I visited three times. One of those four days, we were backpacking out beyond Piaute pass. The apple fritter is wondrous and gigantic. The peanut butter banana filled donut is also huge, made with real bananas and peanut butter and delicious. The memory of it is making my companion sad because she didn't take one for the road. The cake donuts were the bomb, but the buttermilks stole the show. The maple icing was not so mapley, and tasted mostly like sugar. A plea from my traveling companion to the proprietor: Beloved donut maker, it would make my life if you offered a chocolate cake donut with white frosting. Seriously fab donuts. Went in late in the day - not expecting any fresh, but needed a sweet before retiring. There were slim pickings, as expected. Had to choose just among maybe eight varieties. Grabbed an old fashioned glazed buttermilk and cherry or red berry fruit filled glazed triangle type donuts. We ate them about an hour later and I was pleasantly surprised on how fresh tasting they were - just as if I had purchased them right after baking. Really as good as any donut could be and def a good competitor for their stiff competition next door - Schat's. read more

I was driving up the 395 from LA on my way to Reno. When I hit Bishop the sun was just starting to come up. I love finding local haunts on long road trips and especially enjoy a good donut shop. I actually looked to Yelp for this suggestion and was very pleased with the recommendation. The donuts were fresh and well made. I got a chocolate iced old fashioned and a glazed "figure 8." The cake of the old fashioned was dense yet bouncy. It was filling without feeling like a brick of dough. The raised dough of the figure 8 was airy and light. Both were the right amount of sweet without being overly sweet. I have recommended this place to several people now and I plan on making it a permanent "pit stop" for myself anytime I'm in the area and not on a diet. This shop also seems to be a gathering spot for some local characters, especially early in the morning. Everyone seemed friendly and probably would tell you a tale or two if you had the time. The donuts are fresh and tasty. That's the only reason they're getting more than one star. The Lady is extremely rude! They charge $0.65 to use a credit card. I have no problem with this if they let the customer know ahead of time. However, she added it after the fact. When I asked her about it she gave me attitude. Then she told me, "Well you just don't have to buy anything. It's really simple." Apparently she'd rather have to throw away her donuts that she'd already put in bags for me than actually treat her customers with respect.
