Wow how did I not know about this place before! My boyfriend brought me here on a Saturday before starting our day and the place was packed. The line was wrapped around the store! The wait wasn't too long, in about 10 minutes or so we were at the front. The cashier was super nice and even checked to see if they had regular pesto for me for my sandwich when I asked. She also let us know that if there was anything wrong with our drinks to let the barista know and they would remake it. I ordered the Miss Piggy on a croissant with Pesto and the Penguino and my boyfriend ordered the OG Bagel Sammie and the Peppermint Patty. Despite being super busy everything came out in about 5 minutes! Be warned: they do not skimp on mint in the Peppermint Patty, my boyfriend literally had to take the lid off and scoop out the mint leaves. But he said the flavor was definitely there! The Penguino had a really rich chocolate/mocha flavor which was good but I definitely would not suggest drinking first thing in the morning! The Miss Piggy was pretty heavy (weight wise) and had a generous amount of ham in it! The pesto definitely added a little something something to it. But omg the OG Bagel Sammie with Chive Cream Cheese is so amazing! I love all the ingredients in the sammie but the chive cream cheese just took it to another level. I am one lucky girl! I live within walking distance of the best coffee shop in the Bay! You walk into Hippies Brew, and you are instantly caught up in the dopest vibe. The colorful murals on the walls are a beautiful reflection of what makes the Bay so amazing. A nod to Jimi Hendricks, a colorful display of Latin culture, and the never ending love of hip hop. The baristas are some of the sweetest people. They always greet you with a smile, and go above and beyond to make sure you're happy with your visit. What they do in that kitchen is incredible! I swear I'm ruined for any other coffee shop (never again Starbucks, never again). I love all of their drinks, but my hands down favorite is Gangsta's Paradise . Not only are the drinks amazing, but this crew can COOK!! Freakin French Toast, Smelly Cat, OG Bagel Sammie, and so many more delicious eats. When I come in to work, I don't have to bring head phones because the music is on point. I don't know who put together the playlist, but whoever it is needs to share it with me. Really rude. Half the stuff on the menu was unavailable and the staff is not forthright about basic details. E.g. Certain drinks only came in certain sizes, cold versions pre-made... Came here on New Year's Eve and got their yogi chai. The chai was creamy and not spicy at all. If you are looking for a spicy authentic chai then this is not for you. I was chatting with a friend outside, seated on one of the chairs by the door, and could smelled piss and cigarettes smoke. This is not a good place to chat but more a grab and go spot. This weekend I stopped by the grand reopening at 888 C St, Hayward, CA to support what I believe is the best coffee shop in the Bay Area, as well as some of the best food to munch along side your coffee. I was thrilled to see the well deserved support. The owner Sonja, made everyone feel welcome as we stood in line by having bagel samples passed out . A nice thoughtful touch ! As I checked out the brew menu I was thrilled to see that the coffee menu included a lot of cold brew coffee drinks, as well a wonderful selection of tea brew such as chai, among others. I could even choose from almond, coconut as well as regular creamers ! All so yummy. I must comment on the cinnamon toast. I could eat this everyday ! Somehow the toast was elevated to a state of deliciousness beyond words. I am hoping that I can get back soon to satisfy my Hippie Brew craving as soon a possible. read more

Food: Very first item i tried was the Freakin French Toast. Something about sweet + salty always catches my eye. Ham,cheese,egg+french toast? try it. I've came back and had the OG Bagel Sammie and the Brown Bag Special BUT hands down the french toast is my favorite, i had 2 of them last time lol it was thattt good. Coffee: HB is not a place you can try to "compare" to starbucks. It's just unique and delicious, it is its own. I will say though, if youve ever had the mint mojito from Philz Coffee, try their Iced Mint Drip. Such a great alternative, tastes just like it! Also had the Ice Loves Coco, love the coconut flavor in my coffee! Overall: The service is on point. Everyone that works here is so friendly like you're family and always greet you when you walk in. Such a cute spot but, it is small so if you are in a rush just have your order for to go. So happy I found this gem - thanks to Yelp! We got the top three item (per Alex who took our order): the French toast, bagel, and mcmuffin. All items were really good, but I think the French toast was my favorite because I've never had one that way before. It was like a French toast sandwich! So good. The cafe itself has a very cozy feeling and everyone was really friendly! Alex also gave me a free tea latte - very unexpected but appreciated! They're back!!!!! I'm so excited to finally have coffee in my life (no I do not go anywhere else, I've been loyal and patiently waiting. Needless to say no one does it like HB. I will say that HB express is a bit different from the original. They are located in the new Hayward library so they don't have the capacity to make all of the amazing edible creations they normally make. However the pasty options do not disappoint, my fav is the new gluten free blueberry muffin. I'm a forever customer and I'll continue to support Son, Chay and the brew crew while patiently waiting for a larger spot to open so I can have all my fav HB food back in my life!!! Overly sweet drinks that made me feel like I had to get checked for diabetes afterwards. Drinks are premade and require zero skill from your barista. The coffee isn't bad necessarily, just not good and the farthest thing from fresh brewed. A great coffee shop for those that don't take coffee serious at all and just want a sweet flavored liquid. Customer service has definitely declined at this location. There has been multiple incidences where I would walk in and no one even acknowledged that I was there! When they finally decided to assist me, the attitude and quality of service was extremely poor. I'm not asking for you to kiss my butt, but at least do the bare minimum and say hi. After moving to Hayward, I needed to find a new coffee shop. After trying a few, I've settled on Hippies Brew due to the taste of their coffee and delicious breakfast items. I am stuck on the Rick Ross iced coffee, it is delicious. If you don't like sweet coffee then ask for it half sweet. If you are hungry for breakfast, the French Toast sandwich is filling and delicious. Comes with Sausage, egg, cheese, in between two pieces of French Toast. Give this place a try! I was hesitant at first due to the fact that it's located inside the library and I was expecting average cafeteria style coffee. I was wrong, so glad I decided to try it out. read more

This morning, I had asked my brother to grab me an ice-mint coffee before he got home but when I received my drink it was made with the wrong milk, on accident. Great service and ambiance, but their beans are too sour. I had a medium roast pour over and it's one of the sourest coffee's I've ever had. This is one of those places that are great for sweet coffee-based drinks, but terrible for black coffees. The interior is very hipster and reminds me of New York bodegas minus all the prepackaged foods. They have a pitcher of hipster water infused with cucumber and mint. read more

Ughh I wanted to love this place So much!! The parking is along the street, busy mission blvd. It's a tiny place with plenty of people always. The music is probably TOO loud for enjoyment. So in reality it's not that much coffee. The sandwich was pretty good, I'd order it again. The French toast was nothing special, real rubbery texture. The pineapple was good, and the sweet cream was good. I'd only come back here if I was craving the sandwich and if I didn't have to wait inside like sardines in a can. Hippie's Brew....This place sure lives up to its name with the tie dye wall paint and murals of a dude that look like Bob Marley smoking weed. The good vibes started rolling in when I saw a line loop around the inside of the cafe waiting to order their items at 10:45am. A cafe with a line thats in between breakfast and lunch hours must be a good thing. Their menu is filled with trendy names such as a coffee drink called Rick Ross and a breakfast sandwich called Miss Piggy. I had the Gangsta's Paradise (mint with coconut mocha) and OG Bagel Sammie (choice of bagel, flavor of cream cheese, spinach, ham, choice of cheese, and eggs). The Gangsta's Paradise was rich and creamy with that wonderful coconut coffee, balanced with mint leaves. At times this felt even better than the Mint Mojito at Philz. The OG Bagel Sammie was perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients; i had the jalapeno asiago cheese bagel and that brought a nice kick to the sandwich. My wife had the Freakin' French Toast (breakfast sandwich with french toast for the bread, ham, cheese, and eggs); you can dip the sandwich in the maple syrup they include which makes for that sweet and savory flavor profile. Did I mention their french toast was cook to perfecto?! Overall I am really impressed with this place. I'd think this place would be smack in the middle of SF's Haight and Ashbury instead of Hayward's foothill blvd lol. read more
