    The Robbie thicckee!
    Vrushali N.

I can totally see myself sitting on that cute couch reading a book. Or better still sitting with a friend and chatting, Golden girls style! Such an adorable space that serves killer breakfast sandwiches, with strong coffee. I love everything about this space, the couch area with the prints on the wall. The tables for two along the wall in the back. The chic (and clean) restroom. But if you need just one reason to visit, it's the cookies! We had the French toast sandwich, the McMuffin , coffee, and the Robbie thiccee cookie. My goodness, what a treat! Can't say enough good things about Nicolas who mans the counter and makes your orders. And with their new extended hours I'm know I'll be spending a lot of time there.

Absolutely love this place! We got drinks off the secret menu...MacDrizzle and RuPaul! My only regret is that I got the medium! Customer service is awesome. The barista took the time to explain the secret menu and didn't rush me with making a decision since everything sounded so yummy. The coffee shop is clean and a cool old school vibe.

The coffee here is so good! It's perfectly strong and flavorful. The sandwich was okay, the egg seemed pre made. I will definitely come back and try more of their dope coffee flavors. They were fire! The inside decor is super cute too, they share space with a business that makes cookies. The cashier was also friendly and quick!

First time being here. When look up yelp this coffee shop was thinking it a building. But it's a small cute tailor. Met Nicolas I believe very friendly told him it was first time there. He started to tell me about this coffees and pastry. And recommended a coffee. Told him not to sweet and he nailed it Also got a cookie so so so yummy

I've written a review for their old location in San Leandro, but this new location should be deserving of an updated review as well! We were so sad that they closed their other two locations and were on a hiatus! So happy to see that they've opened a new partnership with The Neighborhood Grandma! The inside of the store has that same Hippie's Brew vibe as their San Leandro location; cute and cozy decor all around. They now have a kiosk which you can order yourself! We've been back twice since they reopened and we never hesitate to make the 40-50min drive from San Pablo/Richmond for some Rick Ross and Ice Luvs Coco!!! There are new menu items that we tried out on our recent visit. Ricky Ro$sayeee caught my eye. You can choose their Rick Ro$$ coffee or $orta Kinda Latte and it comes with a slice of tiramisu on top!!! Sooo good!!! It does get messy though! I wonder if you can request the tiramisu on the side or if they'll offer it as a stand alone dessert item too! We also tried their PHAT cookies; Richie Rich and Ying Yang. We chose to get them warmed up and it made it all the better! It was nice, warm, and ooey gooey!!! My fave is the Ying Yang (cookies and cream)! I see that they also added new match drinks!!! Will have to check those out the next time we come back, which will probably be soon lol. Wishing you all the best with this location!!!

Top your cold brew with the Frisco Fog Coconut Cold Foam

Yes yes yes to Hippies Brew! How I've missed this coffee spot and was so excited to learn there is a NEW spot in Hayward off Eden Landing Rd. Tucked in a small lot shared with popular eatery Crave Subs and others, 'The Neighborhood Grandma's Coffee Shop' serves Hippies' Brew sips and cookies that are HUGE and oh so delicious. Pro tip: get the cookies nice and warmed up :)) I ordered the 'Crack Coffee' (cold coffee brewed for 18+ hours) and they mentioned to add the 'Frisco Fog Coconut Sweet Cream Cold Foam' atop ~ so good! You could literally use a spoon with that cold foam. The foam also comes in a Cinnamon Vanilla flavor too. I also ordered a 'White Iverson' jug to-go (white mocha) and a 'Ying Yang' cookies n' cream cookie. No notes! I appreciate the fun names for their drinks and shoutouts to pop culture and the Bay. Also the overall vibe of this spot is incredibly cool. Literally just like 'Grandma's house' ~ from the floral print seating to the fireplace, to the clocks on the wall. Cobra Kai was playing on the TV and we noticed the kitchen's wallpaper was a replica of the Wonka edible fruit wallpaper..so fun! The owners of the spot came to sit and chat with us for a bit and honestly, made my day and week. To sit with your community and just chat and invest time together enjoying coffee and convo..so priceless. Cant wait to continue to support such cool people doing cool things in the East Bay. Thank you for the laughs and love! *Also, stay tuned for more menu updates from them coming soon. They're only 29 days in!*

Ice Loves Coco - 5 stars

I love me some Ice Loves CoCo and was sooooo excited when they reopned again. But for $11.00?!?! When did it get so expensive? I get inflation but damn! I don't know if I can come back for another.

I've been rocking with Hippies Brew for 10-11 years now and have been following them ever since! I think I've been to every location lol! The coffee, the food, the cookies, the service and people are all amazing! Going to Hippies is kinda a Sunday ritual for my family and I! I haven't had a bad thing on the menu .. but I'm a creature of habit so I stick with my 2 favs: Rick Ross and Sorta Kinda Latte! You can't go wrong!I'm so happy they are open and I can't wait to see what else is in store for them! 10/10 highly recommend :)

Showed up for coffee on a Sunday, staff is very friendly, prices are cool and coffee is amazing! It is a mobile location in a gas station parking lot, but their ambiance is quite cozy! 5/5 definitely recommend!

I was ready to place an order today at 12:50pm but for some reason DoorDash says you're closed. It says "Opens soon" but no info as to what time. The option to check a delivery time for later is grayed out, leaving no way to place an order. Very disappointing. I'll have to order from another restaurant.

I've been a fan of their rick ross ever since. But i just don't like the fact that they spiked up their prices way too much. I spent a $10+ for just a medium Rick Ross.

Ask the Community - Hippies Brew

Hi there. Are your iced beverages made with a premix? How are they drinks prepared? I only ask because I have been there 3x now and I taste more sugar than I do coffee. Sorry, just a bit curious

Heyyyy! Great question! We specialize in sweet and creamy drinks so they def might taste more like sugar! But we got you if you want a little less sweet, just let our barista know and they can add as much cold brew as you’d like to make it less…

I notice that this establishment has a breakfast sandwich. Is it possible to customize the elements of the sandwich, asking for turkey bacon in place of the sausage that is included on it?

    Yes!

Do they make drinks decaf as well?

If I purchased a shirt from Hippies Brew and it's too big am I able to exchange it for a smaller size?

Of course. Just take it back to any local hb:)

Are you open on MLK holiday Jan 18?

Yep we sure are! 8am-6pm :)

    Are you open on thanksgiving?

Heyyyy! We’re closed on thanksgiving so our staff can spend time with their families :)

    Is there any vegan options?

Hey there! Our iced mint drip is vegan :)

Are you open? So what if drinks you make? It is only cold drinks? Do you make foods too?

Heyyy! Yep, both stores are open from 8-6 everyday. We offer cold coffee right now due to a limited COVID menu & have our 3 most popular food options available also. :)

Hi was so happy to see the cafe open, just curious why you are only serving up cold drinks and not hot?

We’re so happy to be open also!!! Due to COVID we’ve had to restructure our entire business to ensure a healthy environment for all, which means making it possible to get people in and out quickly and safely. So we had to unfortunately cut our menu.…

Are the hours on Yelp right? You're not open until 9am?

Yep, they’re right. We open at 9 :)

Do they still serve the freaking French toast at the new location?

Yep!!! We have it at both Hayward & Union City :)

    Do they have decaf options?

We don’t right now, but after the COVID stuff is over we will have a broader menu :)

Is there a food menu that I'm missing?

There is a food menu! I just posted one too!

When are your delicious sandwiches coming back?

Hey ya!!!! So glad you asked, they are back now!! We have the Freakin French Toast, McLovin…

Is there a place to sit inside to enjoy your coffee and food?

Yep! :) We have a few tables outside, a couch inside and during library hours there are many tables right outside of our shop inside the library to hang out. Hope to see you soon! :)

I'm confused. A friend said they're open but now yep says closed til May and maps said closed. Are they open?? Because I was gonna go tomorrow morning 10/6/2019

Thanks for asking! The original Hippie’s Brew is closed on Foothill. Hippie’s Brew Express is open at the Hayward library. Come by tomorrow! :)

Where is the new location and is it open?

Corner of Mission and C street at the Hayward Main library...yes OPEN for business :)

Looks like Hippie's Brew has relocated, but are the beverages and food the same? I don't see any updates on hours or menu.

Beverages the same but not seeing any breakfast sandwiches being made more pastries (as of 10/5/19)

Clearly the entire community is experienced MAJOR HB withdrawals over the past the year in the worst of ways... We were stoked when the library location was open for a bit, now, what gives?…

    It's open as of 9/14/19!!!!

Are they closed long-term again? For the past few days, they've reported on Yelp that they have "special hours: Closed"

Yes, due to plumbing issues, Hippie's Brew is closed until further notice. Follow their Instagram or Facebook page for more updates because they will do a pop-up from time to time.

The standout dish is the short rib massaman curry. The moment we took our first bite, we both looked at each other because it was that good! The restaurant itself is small and cute, but my mom and I were seated right away at around noonish on Sunday! That might have been because everyone was busy at world cup parties, though. We ordered: - thai iced teas - the khao hom waffle - samosas - roti with curry dip - koong karee The thai teas were unfortunately on the milky side, and weren't very strong tasting. I recommend the lychee iced tea instead! When I used to go, I always got the thai tea pancake but they have since removed it from their menu. Although this was a pretty devastating revelation, I went with their waffle instead. I thought that the waffle still super delicious, and I loved that it had coconut meat cooked into the batter. It comes garnished with fruit and coconut flakes, which was a plus. While I thought it was a delicious choice, I do not think it was a proper replacement for my thai tea pancake. The samosas and roti were both so delicious, flavorful, and savory. The portions aren't huge, but the flavors make up for it. The koong karee was the star of the show! The prawns were so well cooked, and came in the most delicious egg & curry sauce. I loved the vegetables that came in the dish, as well. You can't go wrong with the tiger prawns, and they go so well with some jasmine rice on the side. Overall, we keep coming back for good reason! They are a great snack while you wait for your meal. 9/10 - The ube pancakes: These were pretty solid. I didn't think that the pancakes themselves had a very strong ube flavor, if any. I think all of the flavor was in the ube coconut sauce that they come with. However, there is only sauce on the first layer so you might want to get extra! It is an additional $2.75 or so to get the extra side of ube sauce, though. The pancakes themselves could have been a little more moist and fluffy, as they were a bit dry and dense. I loved the fruit and sauce, so that definitely made up for it! I'm glad that I got to try, but I don't think I'd get them again. Came on a Sunday and enjoyed our food…read more Ambiance: I didn't expect how large the establishment actually was. We sat in the back portion of the restaurant, which seems to possibly be a new addition for them? I'm not sure. I liked all of the picture framework in the front of house, with cute bacon and egg play on jokes. Menus are worn out. Could use a reprint or lamination, but that's minor. Food: Ordered the beignets, a corned beef hash breakfast meal (husband's dish), and a 3 egg pancake combo for myself. Yum! The beignets are more doughy than I expected, but tasted fresh. This is not your princess and the frog beignet, more of a doughnut puff type? I don't know how to describe it exactly, haha. The staff was accommodating in putting their vanilla and chocolate sauces on the side for dipping which I appreciated. Pancake was good, eggs cooked well (I love a place that knows how to cook a soft scramble), while their home fries are not what I expected (I think I typically prefer a more crispy potato), this showed me that I can possibly save myself time in the future when making at home. While not crispy, the home fries were delightful, entirely cooked through with a thin crisp edge. Staff: very kind! You know it is a family run business. The only thing I found mildly off putting was that one of the young servers wore his pajama bottoms. It did not feel like something a server should wear. But, if the place is a "come as you are" kind of a place, I understand. Overall: we will come back. Good food for a good price. Overall a good atmosphere and positive vibe. Just some slight tune ups would make this place a star.

Just an excellent place to be!…read more A friend had heard rave reviews about their authentic Argentinian empanadas and we were so happy to come and try it out on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was busy (the lot is shared with Trader Joe's) but we managed to find a spot and head into the busy but not packed cafe. There is a large assortment of empanadas, from meat options like chorizo and chicken, to vegetarian like corn and onion, to sweet options too like apples. The menu also boasts lots of great drinks including mate tea! Lucky us, the empanadas we ordered weren't in stock so we had to wait ~10 for freshly baked ones. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot. Lots of wooden tables with fresh flowers make Pampas a great space to chat with friends or to sit and do some work. The most standout feature was the friendly and efficient staff who seem to build connections with everybody who walks in the door. Worth a drive to Castro Valley! Especially if you bring cash for a 10% discount off a dozen :)

First time here…read more I've been obsessed with empanadas since May when I was in Puerto Rico ...... I ordered an empanada of chorizo and of chicken with a side of chimchurri and a Cortado to go The cashier seemed a little bit overwhelmed I noticed she told the customer before me to hold before he placed his order and told me the same thing Inside has communal seating no outside seating available Menu is easy to read and prices are reasonable Parking lot is shared with Trader Joe's so needless to say parking can be hard to come by This venue does offer wine and beer (aside from coffee) Empanadas were OK Guess it gives me a reason to go back to Puerto Rico AYYYY Cortado was an 8/10 Gave me that extra perk Inside is clean and organized Lots of seating available Menu is easy to ready
