I didn't know vegan food could taste this good! My parents keep kosher so this is really the only spot they can eat in Frederick when they come visit me. This small restaurant though, makes vegan food taste spectacular. The last time I was there I had the Cheesy Potato Nachos. Honestly, I would have a hard time telling the difference between the vegan cheese and real cheese. Their Ricotta Grilled Cheese is also always a delight. I think it's really cool that there's a board in there that introduces the individual employees. I've never seen a restaurant do that before. The space is small. There is seating, but counting on a seat if they're busy probably isn't wise. They make a nice assortment of hummus flavors and serve them with vegetables and fresh pita. I ordered a lot of things from this place today. The bottom line is the only edible items were the smoothie bowls. The wraps were fantastically bad with perhaps 1/3 of the amount of hummus I was expecting. They packed it with veggies so they could skimp on the hummus and even that was bland. I thought perhaps I could just scrape off their layers if blandness and eat just the wrap but when I tried just the wrap it was noticeably stale. The corn bread was squashed like someone hadn't made it right and it too was bland. Seriously, They even managed to make bland jalapeño corn bread and I have no idea how you even do that. I mean it's not the most flavorful thing but it shouldn't remind you of eating cardboard. Anyways.. two stars because the smoothie bowls were actually good. I'm not vegan but I do enjoy vegan food. I work down the road from here and I've been meaning to check it out. It's a cute small shop, albeit pretty disorganized. 2 small tables to sit at inside and a few outdoor spots. The staff was friendly and my food came up in about 10 minutes. I ordered the mushroom gyro pita. Sadly it was a miss. Everything on the sandwich tasted good except the mushrooms which were a mushy over-salted disaster that didn't taste like mushrooms at all. If a vegan place is going to do something right, it should be mushrooms, seeing as they're an excellent meat alternative. Unfortunately there was a TON of them on there also. It was a pretty large sandwich, no way I would've finished it if I had enjoyed it. I pushed all the mushrooms off and just ate the pita bread with the hummus, chickpeas, cucumbers, tomato. There was also tzatziki sauce on there. It was good without the mushrooms but absolutely not worth $16, I could have made that at home for $3. If I had brought someone here to try vegan food for the first time they would have been disappointed. Luckily I've had some great vegan food before! Seeing as this place doesn't really have a full kitchen, I'm pretty sure the mushrooms were made either early that morning and microwaved or somewhere else and microwaved. I probably won't come back but I'm glad I tried it! Everything on the menu is pretty pricy ($13+ for a smoothie even) and I think I could find or make better elsewhere. read more

Disappointed. I used to enjoy this place a lot pre-COVID. They had great bowls, fresh, abundant with toppings, and definitely were a must-have when we were in Frederick. Today's bowl was a soupy mess. It was barely cold. The color of the acai mix was off-putting (brownish tint to it). I make acai bowls at home so I'm familiar with the approximate color they should look like... It seemed like it was day-old mix. The fruit wasn't fresh, kiwis were mushy. Pineapple was underripe. And way too much coconut in proportion with the rest of the toppings. I ended up throwing it away... Hoping things improve... Amazing! I loved everything about this place. I'm Not even vegan and I recommend it. Ironically I was trying to figure out where to eat when a local recommended it to me, she was heading there as I was talking out loud to my group about where to go. So glad she did! I ended up getting a buffalo cauliflower wrap, and two shots. Also got some hummus to go and a kombucha. The kombucha was one of the better ones I've had and I have yet to try the hummus. A fantastic little spot in Frederick for lunch or a quick bite; would recommend this to all vegans and vegetarians if you are in downtown Frederick. I came with my mom on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and ordered the Buddha bowl for her and the broccoli flatbread for myself. They sold out their pita bread for the day and the server, who was so friendly and helpful, offered to let me switch to a different item. I decided on the ricotta grilled cheese panini (made with vegan ricotta cheese) for myself. Both dishes were just outstanding! The Buddha bowl had fresh...everything! The greens, the tomatoes, the hummus, and the avocado were all fresh and high quality. Hummus itself was silky smooth with the proper balance of tahini and garlic. My panini came out hot on crispy bread stuffed with fresh basil and tomato. The vegan ricotta was a surprise for me -- I wasn't sure if it could really replace the real stuff but the texture and flavor were just perfect. It has the same mouthfeel of traditional ricotta and same mild flavor. I didn't miss dairy cheese in this sandwich at all and I adore my traditional dairy cheeses! Sure I had to wait a bit for my food but 1) they were busy with plenty of orders coming in which is always a good sign and 2) it was entirely worth the wait. I'm coming back very soon with the husband to try the chick'n wraps and the peanut butter cookie! I am leaving two stars because I appreciate that they are a plant-based eatery. However, I dislike restaurants like this because they perpetuate the idea that vegan food is bad; if this were my first introduction to plant-based food, I would not seek it out again. I tried three things on the menu, none of which I would recommend: the "chicken & waffles" was a chickpea-based mushy, crumbly "patty" and dense waffles; the butternut squash soup of the day was overly salted but otherwise under seasoned and resembled baby food; and the "crab dip" and pretzel was essentially gritty, mealy hummus with some slivers of artichoke and a sprinkle of old bay seasoning. If I try three things on a menu, I expect that at least one will be enjoyable. This was an incredibly disappointing experience, especially when coupled with less than ideal customer service (I requested the items to go and was served in the restaurant, my soup was forgotten, and when I went to collect the missing soup they appeared rather frustrated). I am leaving this review as a plea to please improve your standard and better represent plant-based food. read more

Had my first taste of Kombucha here last weekend--they brew their own flavors available on draft. We sampled a Mexican chocolate & a refreshing fruity one (forget the exact combo)...I'm a fan! The menu of course is hummus-based, often with the option to pick your own flavor. If you want try them all, the hummus sampler is perfect. And they're all freshly home-made. Their chick-peaza caught my eye, a crisp brown rice crust topped with olives, tomatoes, broccoli (cooked, not raw), and of course a lot of chickpeas, drizzled with tahini. Nice combo of flavors. I'd recommend this as an item better shared, rather then to eat all on your own. The Market Street Tacos were a nice mix of hummus and black beans. Yummy "fudge bites" are a fun sweet option. My hands-down favorite of our items was the Build Your Own Smoothie Bowl, built by my sister based on the Nana Bowl base (banana, almond butter, almond milk & cinnamon) and five toppings of your choice from a variety of texture & flavor options( fruits, nuts, proteins, etc.). I first heard of Hippy Chick Hummus at a Halloween Yelp event so I decided to give it a try at their location. Their hours are a bit tricky, so check to see if they're open before you go. When I arrived on a Saturday, their store sign said closed even though they were scheduled to be open by 11am. When I did go in, they seemed overwhelmingly understaffed. None of their soups were ready, various ingredients for their açaí bowls weren't available, etc. I did choose to get their Hawaii bowl and the turmeric hummus. There was about a 15 minute wait to get my order, being that I was the only one in there it was a bit odd. The açaí bowl was okay, nothing impressive to be honest.
