Don't understand how someone can write such a negative review. If you read below Monica left a negative review because she cancelled, Mindy left a negative review because the place was awkward? and Kate didn't like it because it wasn't the Four Seasons. Do not listen to these pointless reviews. It's a cabin/cottage, 10 minute walk from the beach, 5 minute drive from shops and restaurants and is a perfect weekend getaway from any sort of city life. I've stayed here for a weekend the past two April's and would fully recommend it. The cabins are well kept, clean, and have all amenities you could ever want. Ocean views, clean, full kitchen, full bathroom, WiFi, free grill, multiple TVs, and large outdoor patio areas for all cabins. It bothers me that people leave negative reviews with no real reasoning other then they like to use Yelp to complain. Stay here. It's worth it!

The location is in a quite neighborhood 5 blocks from a private beach.... The property is clean and landscaping is pleasant. The room is a lil outdate but has everything we needed.... The staff Wen and Lou are very warm and welcoming... you'll bump into each other and always expect a good morning hello and helpful on suggestions for activities ... if you want calm and quite away from the main strip but close enough for short drive for supplies or go to town for dinner you cant go wrong with Hither House....

This is our second stay at Hither House and we have absolutely loved both of our stays. Like others have pointed out this is not a "luxury" hotel. However, there is beautiful scenery and a private beach within walking distance. The cabins are clean and the cleaning crew come every day. Its equipped with a full kitchen and supplies, which we have found works great for us! It's the most peaceful place we've stayed in Montauk. What makes this place extra special is you get to bring your pet and our dog Koda LOVES it. This time around we came to Hither House Cottages for our own wedding, with the ceremony on the private beach. Wen, the owner, was more than accommodating and even bought us a bottle of prosecco for the occasion! The beach was a perfect setting for our ceremony and the cabins were perfect for our guests and after wedding reception/BBQ. I have recommended this place to a few of my friends and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet serene place to stay.

I just came home after spending 3 wonderful nights. It was very clean inside . The area is amazing. I took a nice 10 minute walk to the beach everyday ! Everything you need in the kitchen is provided. Free wifi and two nice big flat screen tv. Bbq grill outside your door. Downtown is 5 minutes away! Oh, the big plus for me is that they are dog friendly. The other big plus was one night it was cold and rainy. There is heat in the cottage but it was so nice to have a wood burning stove. It was a great choice and I can't wait to go back !!!

Where does that saying even come from? There's no time to research. I found myself at a wooden picnic table, feet in the sand, drinking an $18 aperol spritz out of a flimsy plastic cup while looking at the $150 Popeyes Chicken Tender Tower dominating the table space in front of me. I became one with the surroundings: Rays of a setting sun lightly bounced off a picturesque lake, illuminating a linen draped crowd more fit to be on the Get Out movie set than to be at a club. You could cut the tension in the air with a butter knife. The crowd was getting restless. Fetty Wap was supposed to perform from 7-9pm, and the clock was about to strike 8. Rumors began swirling among the party goers like a voracious whirlpool. "He's right outside but won't leave his sprinter van...He must be green'd out... It's got to be a money thing... I heard it's too much booger sugar... They're starting to refund tables..." I wondered to myself "who wants 2 hours of Fetty Wap in 2026?" as I downed the last quarter of my spritz. I slammed the plastic cup on the table, and set off to the front to investigate for myself. I walked out to see a sprinter van right out front, with 4 of his crew waiting outside. I started a casual, diffusing conversation with the bouncer before I leaned in and said, "... is he good in there?" He responded with a firm "I don't know," as he walked the other way. Read right through my fake kindness. I lit another cig. I ended up standing out there for 20 minutes, just because I felt like one of the greats. Like Sherlock Holmes, Benoit Blanc, or Scooby Doo. I walked back in and ordered another spritz and fueled up off the grossly expensive Popeyes chicken. After 10 minutes, a "YEAAAAHHH BABBYY" roared through the speakers. The building erupted. Fetty had taken the stage. He ended up doing a lifeless performance of 4 songs, which the backtrack was CARRYING. It was oddly inspirational. I don't know what came over me, but as he left, I ran to the front to see him. Maybe him getting a BAG for doing 4 songs, which he barely even sang, really inspired me. It's so easy to make money if you really think about it. I overcomplicate life sometimes. Anyways, I ran to the front to try and get a picture before he got in the sprinter, but he was moving too quickly. Slow feet don't eat. BUT, I did get a selfie with his bum as he was getting in the trailer. I'm gonna frame it and hang it on my wall. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Where to begin... My…read morewife and I have been coming to Surf Lodge since it opened almost 20 years ago, back when we had just started dating. We remember when it was actually a cool, laid-back Montauk spot. Over the years, we've watched it slowly morph into a cringe-worthy backdrop for influencers to photograph themselves pretending to have fun. Last night may have finally cured us of the place for good. We went for dinner and Diplo happened to be performing a set, so naturally the place was slammed with teenagers & 50-something's alike desperate to be adjacent to someone famous. At one point my wife was waiting in line for the restroom when a self-important, ridiculous man with a purse came barreling through, clearing a path for a group of influencer girls apparently too precious to navigate a hallway themselves. Clearly, saying "excuse me" wasn't sufficiently VIP, because he put his hands directly on my wife's breasts and shoved her against the wall to get her out of their way. We later learned this guy was a manager, which explains a lot about the culture of the place. A few hours and several margaritas later, my wife saw him again and called him out for putting his hands on her. Instead of behaving like a normal adult and saying, "Sorry, I was trying to clear the hallway and shouldn't have touched you," he went and got security to throw us out. Nothing screams "I know I handled that appropriately" quite like having security remove the woman who complains about you putting your hands on her. I was perfectly happy to leave. My wife--admittedly pretty well lubricated by this point--wanted someone on staff to understand why she was upset. Their response? "Nobody cares about your story. It's boring." Verbatim. Just an absolutely masterful display of hospitality. I went to get the car while my wife waited in the parking lot. Apparently Surf Lodge felt we hadn't yet received the full five-star experience, because an emaciated blonde employee working the door then started yelling insults at my wife about her weight. My wife actually started typing the employee's words into her phone while she was saying them because she wanted to make sure she remembered them correctly: "Leave! You'll look better, you angry fat fuck. Stop eating and you'll feel better. Good, go. You're so angry cause you're fat." That is a direct quote from a Surf Lodge employee speaking to a customer. Not that it should matter, but to be clear, my wife is a beautiful, average-sized mother of three. And this is where the whole place becomes almost too ridiculous to be offensive. There's a particular species of person who works the velvet rope at a trendy establishment long enough that they begin confusing their proximity to important people with actually being important themselves. It's the hospitality equivalent of the snooty retail employee at a luxury boutique who acts superior because, for eight hours a day, they get to stand near merchandise they can't afford. You work the door at a bar in Montauk. Nobody thinks you're cool. Calm the fuck down. And that's really the tragedy of Surf Lodge. Twenty years ago, this place was cool precisely because it didn't seem to give a shit about being cool. Now the entire place seems populated by people engaged in a desperate, exhausting performance of exclusivity--managers clearing hallways for influencers like they're escorting heads of state, door staff conducting unsolicited BMI assessments in the parking lot, and employees who apparently think basic human decency is reserved for bottle service. The whole thing has the energy of a high-school cafeteria where the popular kids somehow got a liquor license. So by all means, go to Surf Lodge for the mediocre food. Stay for the starving, aspiring influencers, manufactured exclusivity, and employees drunk on the intoxicating power of deciding who gets through a rope. We've been customers for nearly two decades. We remember when this place had an actual personality. Now it feels like someone took everything insufferable about the Hamptons, gave it a ring light and a superiority complex, and charged $35 for a margarita. 3/10. One point for the view, one for nostalgia, and one because eventually they did let us leave. Coincidentally, 3/10 is also my rating for the blonde door girl.

Pros: Room was clean. Location is good. Cons: For $1300, we were surprised. Room had a coffee maker but no coffee, and the website never said to bring our own coffee, water, or towels. No towels at the pool, no ice machines, no laundry bag, vending machine empty. We were even charged $1 for a cup of tap water at the pool grill. No resort map, and when we asked the front desk about food they just said "over there." Staff was sarcastic, barely spoke English and unhelpful. Pool food was very expensive. With a child and that price point, the lack of basics was disappointing. Location is the only real highlight. Hope management improves this for families.

I arrived early and was able to check in right away -- greeted by a friendly staff member and Josie, the adorable resident pup who totally won me over. My first-floor room was spacious and comfortable, with two queen beds, a walk-in shower, plenty of storage, and even a private back door to the parking lot -- such a thoughtful touch. The garden area with the Zen gazebo, fire pit, pool, and guest barbecue added so much charm. You're walking distance to great restaurants, fishing boats, a bagel shop, meat market, liquor store, and more -- and just a short drive to the village or Montauk Point. Only a few minor things kept it from being a perfect 5 stars: no cell service in the room (but I used Alexa and Messenger to make calls), no coffee maker or microwave in standard rooms (though the office has both), and no blackout curtains. The room gets very bright early in the morning -- plus some of the outdoor lighting from the hotel shines in at night. Those things are so minor... it's a welcoming place, great staff and daily housekeeping, Jeanette is great, with lots of thoughtful details. I can't wait to stay here again!

Starting with the room, the size was good, but it could have been cleaner. I noticed some dust and dirt in the corners, and the room felt like it could use an update. The coffee machine looked older and wasn't very clean, the refrigerator wasn't working properly, and there wasn't an ice machine nearby--you have to call the front desk for ice. At night, the room wasn't very soundproof. You can hear footsteps from the room above, along with other noises, so if you're a light sleeper, it's something to keep in mind. On the weekend, the hotel was lively because of a wedding and the nightclub. There was music until around midnight, and when guests left, the noise from the cars made it difficult to get a full night's sleep. The food and drinks were very good, although they were on the expensive side. I was happy with the quality of the dining experience. Most of the staff were fine, though I noticed a few employees who seemed less welcoming. Thankfully, everyone I interacted with was polite. The overall atmosphere was the highlight of my stay. The property has a beautiful, relaxing vibe with a classy crowd, and I especially loved the morning yoga classes. I spent about $5,000 for a two-night stay, so I expected a more luxurious room experience. Mine was one of the more affordable room categories, and it didn't feel especially upscale for the price. Next time, I would probably visit for the food, drinks, beach, or spa day pass instead of staying overnight. If you're looking for a lively resort with plenty of events and activities, this is a great choice. If you're looking for a very quiet hotel, you may want to consider other options.

Upon arrival, was notified that the pool was out of service because the heater went down. They said I should have received a call. I didn't. After learning this, we figured we would spend most of our time in the hot tubs. Turns out, the heater went down for those also didn't work. The pool and the hot tubs were basically polar plunges. We booked a corner ocean view with a large balcony. The room itself was nice. Large, spacious and a wonderful shower with very nice water pressure. However, the room had ants. And a lot of them. I wish I took pictures. For a newly renovated property, you would think the HVAC systems would have been upgraded. But no. The heating in the room was so loud we actually had to turn it off in the middle of the night because it prevented us from sleeping. This property as a whole puts A-LOT of money on the esthetics. The lighting it beautiful, the wall decor is gorgeous, but it's the the things you don't see easily that need help. Ripped cushions, rotting wood on the patio, ants, poor HVAC, and clearly not a 24/7 on call pool repair for a resort that in the summer time charges $1500 a night for a basic room. Again, you book a winter getaway at a place like this to enjoy the pool and spa. When it's not working properly it just ruins the entire trip and there is no point in staying there. A seperate review of the restaurant was already posted by me. The restaurant was the saving grace. But I absolutely will not stay at this property again.
