The macadamia nuts added a nice crunchy texture to the smooth ice cream. Had never heard of Lappert's ice cream before and now I am a fan. The Hawaiian sea salt caramel had a nice rich caramel to it. Was supposed to head over to Waterman's but they are closed until March 1, so this was our second option and WOW! I just order a sundae thinking it wasn't that much since it's only three scoops of ice cream BUT I didn't think they double the ice cream scoops. I got Pistachio, White Chocolate and Macadamia nuts, and lastly Kona Coffee. They hooked it up! I have been visiting this local gem since I was a child, my mother worked her first job there as a teenager in the 80's. Now with children of my own, we kept the tradition and visited every few weeks for a special, delicious treat. Our last visit was this past Mother's Day, we were informed about the location change and were excited to visit and order our favorites once they were open again. We called to confirm hours yesterday and were informed that Scoop Deck is no longer, it is only Coffee Importers at the new location. It is such a shame to lose such a family oriented staple of the Dana Point Harbor. Absolutely LOVE the Lappert's ice cream and am so happy to have found somewhere that serves it. The Kauai Pie (coffee ice cream with macadamia nuts, fudge, and coconut) is my favorite. But the Hana road (like a Rocky road) and the white chocolate macadamia nut get honorable mentions. The serve very generous scoops here! Great location in the harbor with a few tables to sit at. There are also some benches near by as the tables can be busy during peak times. Inside was very clean and staff were following COVID protocols. This is a nice shop on Dana Point Harbor. They have a great variety of flavors - some even have fun names and include flavor names from the Hawaiian islands. I tried all three flavors that my family and I had. Each had decent flavor, but the texture was overly icy. It tasted like the ice cream had been refrozen one or more times. Since this was my first time at this shop, I do not know if they had issues with a shipment of ice cream or if their freezer needs some adjustment. I ended up just throwing mine (vanilla chocolate almond) away. I would have liked to have tasted it first but they told me they did not allow a taste. I love how convenient the location of this little shop is. It's a 5 minute walk from our hotel (Dana Point Marina Inn) and another 10-15 minute walk from the beach! They offer soooo many flavors! We just happened to be in the Harbor for a whale watching expedition the next day so afterwards we popped into the store to explain the situation. It was my father-in-law who went in and was told by an employee that our order should've been around 20 something dollars (after he told him exactly what we ordered) but that there was nothing they could do. The girls behind the glass were also stressed out beyond belief and definitely getting flustered with all the customers and were confused about who got what. I believe this place suffers from a serious management issue where there needs to be more than one cashier to get the line going and a more organized process to account for ice cream orders. I felt that there needed to be a supervisor or veteran staff member to get things in order and allow for breaks because these girls looked frazzled. But other than that, the ice cream flavors were great and there was a wide variety. I chose the coconut pineapple and some flavor that is technically Rocky road but they gave it some Hawaii name like Hana road. Ice cream was creamy and authentic.
