Walked past this place a few times previously so I decided to give it a try. Ordered two sandwiches and a vanilla latte iced. I asked for no jalapeños but one of the sandwiches had them anyway. Both of the sandwiches were meh and the cheese array did not have flavor. The Turkey sandwich seriously looked and tasted like ham and honestly we couldn't even finish them- they just were not good which is disappointing for the price. The vanilla latte iced was just so/ so and tasted more like something you could make at home on your own. I've noticed from other reviews that some other items have been reviewed as tasty, this could be a situation where some items are just hit or miss. Overall, I would not order these items again, but would still be willing to try the empanadas and some of the baked goods. read more

Looked like a good spot a d turned out to be. Limited patio seating with a nice view of San Pablo Bay. Gets a nice breeze and sits in the sage so perfect place to be on a warmer day. Lots and lots of coffee options and limited selection of hot and cold sandwiches. The steak sandwich I ordered was magnificent. Dog friendly so Rosie had the perfect spot to snooze. Absolutely!! Love the empanada's especially the chicken. I order some for our work team and they were amazed at how deliciously great they were. I hope they don't sell out of the chicken one this time when I ordered :) overall the lady that helped me with a big order was very polite, patience, and helpful. Perfect placement to look at the water and cute houses! Ordered the mushroom, potato, onion, and spinach empanadas to share with my mom, all were extremely flavorful and filling. Sauce containers are extremely small, but the food doesn't need much, and their chimichurri was the most flavorful I've ever tasted. The blended cookies and creme and Thai tea both had a wonderful consistency, and went well with the dulce de leche alfajores. The gentlemen running the place are polite and efficient, we didn't have to wait long and I saw them actively cleaning on the way out. Bonus points for being wheelchair accessible! Only reason this place isn't five stars is because everything has SEVERELY upped in price. I used to love going to the Hiz-Cafe every Saturday when I'm walking my dog! They are one of the best Halal chicken sandwiches around the area! But why am I giving them 3 stars? Well my recent visit I got a breakfast sandwich with Egg,Bacon,avocado but everything was completely frozen? The egg also tasted like it's been in the refrigerator way to long. It also most made me completely sick. Even the bacon wasn't even cooked properly. It was very disgusting. Other than the undercook sandwich and food poisoning the next day, the Hiz-Cafe is still really good! The staff is really nice and very pleasant. Every time i had gone before I never felt rushed or degraded. As well as the view! Who doesn't like sitting perfectly aligned with the water and seeing how beautiful the Bayfront really is! I'm not even sure what to say aside from who puts boiled egg in a sandwich, like legit it was a half boiled egg. Now when you say egg on a sandwich I never thought to expect a hard boiled egg, you would think they would specify this. Worse idea ever. Best thing to do is specify on your menu cause I would have do something else. Bread is good though, go with sourdough. Came here today and the food was really good. Got 2 sandwiches and empanadas. The flavor is super good I wish I had started coming here sooner. The only thing is I wish they would cook the chicken longer as it was raw. One of the empanadas was raw too. But over all fantastic flavors and great customer service. The sandwiches are all bad. They're those prepackaged ones from the gas stations. The "hot"sandwiches they make are just as bad but the coffee is ok. The vibe and music is on point though. We had our mediocre food with decent drinks on their outside little area that was delish. Loved the soft jazzy music in the background. The ambiance is what makes this place. The trains go by with out a sound. You just see many go by the whole time. It's a fun little place that has the power to transport you to another world if you let it. Just bring your own sandwich and buy the coffee or coconut smoothie with some desert. That way you won't be disappointed with their broken food palate. Terrible, you've been warned. I stopped by Hizcafe after my walk along the Hercules Waterfront. The coffee is excellent! It is a light blend with a hint of citrus and nut, comparable to Philz's Manhattan blend. It's my second time here! 1st time I came we order 2 sandwiches and 2 smoothies.(Java chip and cookies and cream) The Sandwiches it was OK. The issue I had was the bread it was hella hard the bread tasted like couple days old. I took a bite into it the bread falls apart into crumbs. The drinks itself 2 different drinks but why they look just alike and not any different taste from each other. The 3rd time I stop by i figure to give it another try. I want it another Sandwich it was only 1ish ask for a sandwich the owner said there's No bread. I ask do you have bagels? He said Yes I do! Than I asked him if he could use a bagel instead?! He immediately said No! To me if you are New Business in town and knowing a lot of competitors around. You should do everything in your power to satisfy your customers. First time visiting this coffee shop. Ordered a regular brewed coffee and I was expecting something close to a dark roast but it was wrong. They don't offer any dark roast brewed coffee. I kindly asked for a replacement since it was too watery and the answer was "no we don't have dark roast". I also ordered the sandwich which was tasty but couldn't understand why the Dutch crust bread fell apart and it was pretty dense and hard. I didn't bother going back to let them know. read more
