Greasy, culturally inaccurate Chinese food is actually one of my favorite things on the planet. I have thankfully been introduced to actual Chinese food by Kit Y. over the years, but something always brings me back to the Pu-Pu platter and Lobster Sauce you can get as easily as you can find a Burger King. Ho Win Palace is like a Tiki Bar you would see in a movie that was going for that kitschy hasn't-been-renovated-in-50-years type feel except it's totally genuine, complete with wood paneling, chandeliers, and randomly displayed paper decorations. Points for preservation. The drinks were sadly not served in fake coconuts, but they were strongenough to send even my grandmother's liver into shock. The Spare Ribs were copious, the duck sauce thick and sweet and the chicken fingers were crispy. The odd thing was that before our food came they brought a bread service. Besides the fact that this is totally out of place, they brought us cold, unsliced sub rolls with butter. What? And fortune cookie fortunes were also disparaging, but I can't blame the establishment for that. read more

Their prices are low and great lunch and dinner specials , Their pu pu platters and huge and feed 2 or as many as 10 ,, live the house rice comes with egg and bean sprouts , they always refill the Chinese tea and water food is always hot and fresh , tryed other but keep coming and enjoying here much more , They make the best scorpion fruit bowls and piña colada's and drinks are resonablely priced The place is small but great service and pleanly of parking !! a little outdated but very clean with a very small bar on opposite dinning side but tv is always on for sports or news of the night ,, can't wait to visit agian !!! read more

Easily the most bland and unflavorful food i have ever tasted. Entrees are $15, but do not come with rice. Ordered chow mein, kung pao chicken, and spicy chicken and not one thing was flavorful. I would not recommend this to someone who is used to actual good food because it will be a disappointment. read more

Try the Singapore white noodles it's good w/ your appetizers! I've ordered(9/18/16) for deliver, I said, "I wanted bone in spareribs, it's not what I wanted!" I have been here before recently and found their food was good but service has been very spotty. I went yesterday afternoon and found a new low. 2pm and seated along with other customers entering the restaurant and no staff except for a bar tender. Eventually, they must have realized there were customers being seated and sent out a woman who proceeded to visit every table without entering a single order of drinks or food to anyone else. Perhaps it was not a day they expected customers....I left as it would be a long time before anything would have been served. Not sure but I think others start to walk out as well. I have met the manager in past visits and I am pretty certain he would have been very unhappy with the poor service and loss of business Sunday and now future days as well. read more

I ordered pineapple shrimp fried rice, which is not supposed to have ham in it, but what was prepared had ham. It was also supposed to have cashews and scallions, but there was none. This is the highest priced rice there and it was terrible. When I called to say the rice was not supposed to have ham...the girl who answered the phone argued with me and then discovered, by reading the menu herself, that the dish was not supposed to have ham. I asked her to deliver a different rice (shrimp fried rice) since I do not eat ham. The girl told me they had no car for delivery so my son-in-law went to pick up the new rice. My daughter then called the restaurant from a different phone and was told they had delivery. Liars, liars !!! I have been ordering from this overpriced restaurant for years, but no more. Went out to dinner at ho win palace in everett,ma and as we were sitting there eating our appetizers we saw a bug walking all over and through our pork lo mein and we called our waitress over to show her and with the light from my phone she could actually see the bug crawling around in the food and then had the nerve to still charge us the full dinner bill!!!!! Everytime I drove by this place, the parking lot was full, so I thought...this place must be good and it is! I love the old school, red boothed, I am gonna get a drink with an umbrella kind of Chinese restaurant. My son and I shared chicken fingers, rice and lobster sauce, not exactly my favorite things to order, but they were all quite good. Now I stop in whenever we are in the area. It has been a while since we have come to this restaurant and I have to say that I am surprised with the renovation and new ownership. Overall our thoughts on the changes here were that the majority were for the best and there were a few for the worst. Some of the improvements they have made to this restaurant included adding sushi to their menu, introduction a larger selection of entrees, and providing a better variety of drink choices. It was also nice to see that they have updated their lighting as well as televisions. Some of the cons to this restaurant are that the new renovation has changed the space from an intimate dining experience to one that feels more disjointed. The old restaurant was outdated but it felt homey. The food here has changed a bit, but for what we were hoping for it lacked a bit because we wanted they "greasy Chinese" experience. The wait staff here has also change which was a bit frustrating because they were less personable than the last owners and they were a bit slow. In the end, we did enjoy our meals as well as overall experience and we could totally see ourselves returning here in the future. Part of us just missed the old restaurant but today is a new day. read more

I ordered a pupu plater. The wings and egg rolls were missing. I was kind of pissed off. I would expect this type issue with Taco Bell or other fast food places, I'm disappointed. On another note the food quality is very good. They have a decent chef. The portion to price ratio is small compared to Chinese dragon or great chef. I once ordered the salt and pepper shrimp and the portions with disappointing. Also I think the food is less greasy and healthier. There are minor things this has to do to to become a prime location. Order Accuracy, specials, marketing, and later hours. Really I don't think they are concerned who knows? They have a bar and I think they make their money off of that mostly. read more

This is the definition of American Chinese cuisine. They have forks and knives set up as the table setting because this is targeted towards mainly everyone but asians. I think the two times i went i was the only asian besides the staff. The drink are good, especially the lychee martini and the zombie... and scorpion bowl. They don't light a fire though, just alcohol in the middle. We got the general gaos chicken which includes a few broccolis- no rice is included so you may want to order a side order of white rice or get some fried rice. Their crab rangoons are so good but so many... the peking ravioli is bomb- it's a big dumpling with yummy sweet soy sauce. We also tried the pineapple fried rice, while not as good as some other restaurants, still pretty yummy. Our bill is normally 60-80 including tip for two people, with 2 drinks and an entree or two with 1-2 appetizers. Service is quick, they come very quick when you get seated to get your drink order and food order. There's a bunch of TVS and this time they were playing hockey. You do get a fortune cookie at the end of your meal but their fortunes are awful..never makes sense. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for about two years and tonight we tried to order takeout. We ordered our usual salt and pepper chicken ( nothing new ) and what ever was delivered it was anything but what we ordered. When we tried to bring it back the person at the front said that is was what we ordered and it was correct and just try to brush us off. We then tried speaking to the manager, he was unprofessional and rude. Telling us that is was what we ordered and would NOT give us a refund ( and he couldn't understand why we were upset! ). I have been eating at Ho Win Palace since I was a fetus. Ho Win Palace was simply where you went for Chinese Food while I was growing up. Sure, I knew other places existed, but they were strange, mysterious places that "other" people went to. It wasn't until I became a rebellious adolescent that I began experimenting, only to realize that *GASP* not all Chinese Food tasted like Ho Win Chinese food! I went far and wide and could find no other place that mastered the art of a chicken finger like Ho Win. No other institution that would be fit to wash the sacred woks that Ho Win makes their fried rice in. Where, oh where, were the delicious little pillows filled with sweet creamy cheese and crab meat that Ho Win always served? Why was every other place woefully inept at cooking a chicken wing? Why, WHY for the love of all things holy, was Kowloon considered to be a good chinese food restaurant??? No, my friends, don't be fooled by their prime location and fancy Polynesian water fountains, Kowloon can't hold a Pu Pu Platter Flame to the food at Ho Win. Let my irresponsible rebellion be a lesson to you all - there was a reason that my family rang in every New Years with food from Ho Win Palace and a reason I still drive all the way from Watertown when I want Chinese - because fantastic Chinese food is hard to come by. Stopped by here on a Friday around midnight and seating was definitely not an issue. My friend ordered the scallion pancakes while I received an eel and Philadelphia roll. Overall the ingredients were fresh and the staff checked on us occasionally for drink refills. Will probably be back in the future because the food was not as greasy as most Asian restaurants. read more

So I love bars with pictures of their drinks-- they get extra points when they're served in tiki heads (which this one does not) and also when there is so much booze in them that this light weight sniffs them and starts feeling hot in the face (which this one does!). The decor is very 1960s quote-un-quote-Asian....with big chandeliers, wood paneling, large print curtains, and weird carpeting....but what can you expect when you pull off rte 16 into what looks like the side yard of a junk yard in everett? The menu is pretty standard-- and the execution is good. I always order the boneless spareribs-- it's my litmus test for the standard Chinese menu-- and they were solidly produced. The portions were heaping so we took a bunch home and it was just as good the next day....which is another characteristic I appreciate in restaurants such as this. I explained to the man at the front there was a problem he said oh confusion sorry then he brought the price to 30.50??? I was so hungry and tired that I just paid it and walked out! so word to the wise ask for the pricing up front, I bet I could place the same order three times and get three different prices all more than the online menu!!! I love everything about this joint. From the second you walk in, the host is always smiling. We always sit at the bar, because the bartender is righteous! She and the host are married, as it's their restaurant. Big ups to family-run restaurants first of all. Next, the drinks. Do not drive if you plan on indulging in adult beverages. A single $6.25 Zombie fucked me up more than 3 mai tais at the Kowloon (Total: $21). Seriously, I am convinced they just pour the glass full of 151 and then add a pinch of red food coloring, its that strong. Point blank, best Chinese food ever. I'm half Chinese and have eaten alot of Chinese. I read earlier reviews and it seems your ordering the wrong stuff. Best things to order are chicken wings, crab ragoon, beef teriyaki, spare ribs and drinks. Staff is prompt and friendly, portions are generous and easy on a budget. Random stop on my way to Logan Airport. Nothing fancy, nothing pretentious. They have great combo platters. They just delivered my food 30 ish minutes late, on top of it being late they forgot my chicken fingers. I call in to ask about the chicken fingers they basically called me a liar and kept asking me if they are in the bag, i keep looking in a empty bag to see if they will magically appear (they don't). After i keep telling them they are missing they hang up on me a total of 5 times i called back in to be hung up on, just called in the last time and they said they sent my chicken fingers with no estimated time of delivery and hangs up the phone. For a stiff, cheap cocktail on the long end of Route 16, Ho Win may be your palace. We've driven past this joint on Rt 16 pretty frequently, and the signage indicated Polynesian (along with Szechwan Chinese) cuisine and "Cocktails" in a late 1960s-style font. Nearly every time we drive by, I get an itch to try out said Polynesian cuisine and cocktails, hopefully both in a single package (Polynesian cocktails!) After a year of drive-by wishings, we finally stopped in for a drink. Exterior looks a bit outdated. Others have indicated in their reviews that Ho Win Palace has been in this location since at least the 1970s. And aside from a flat screen TV near the bar area, everything inside also looks like it hasn't been updated since the 70s either. We sat at the bar, which has that green fake marble top (not Formica, more plasterboard). Dark wood paneling seems to be the predominate style scheme. They were playing a piano version of the Theme from "Love Story" on the box. And there's a lot of windows, but many were covered with thin red curtains to keep out the late afternoon sun glare. So basically, in terms of style and feel, Ho Win Palace seems to exist in a separate timeline from our own, one in which 1975 has stretched on endlessly. Except for the flat screen by the bar. But I happen to like out-of-the-way or in-the-way places frozen in time like Ho Win, so there is definitely a charm to the place. The service was quick and very friendly. It was comfortable. They had air conditioning. So on to the drinks: Ho Win offers up some extremely strong cocktails. My lady ordered a Coco Moko, which was a rum, vodka and coconut concoction. Unfortunately, it was not so good...in spite of the booze content, it tasted more watery and milky than boozy. I had a Mai tai apparently built on fire and willpower...very strong, like the kind that leave a fire-trail into your gut. Both drinks were relatively cheap as far as cocktails go. And definitely cheap considering their sheer firepower. Two stars for that alone. Third star is for being frozen in 1975 proper. As far as I remember, it was a pretty good year. This restaurant is under new ownership and I have just excellent things to say about it. I was traveling, staying at the Wyndham in Chelsea and asked the bellhop if there was good Chinese around. Ho Win Palace is 2 blocks from the Wyndham. I sat at the bar and the bartender, Sonny, is something special. All the other patrons being entertained by Sonny we're repeat customers who were happy to make conversation with me as well. The martini was generous and tasty. I started with steamed dumplings, home made. Then onto Sesame Beef with Broccoli, not on the menu but they were flexible enough to make what I desired. Crispy, awesome, fresh Broccoli as well. They have Sushi there too if you have the hankering. The bar is beautiful! 39 dollars before tip. I had a Kettle One Martini to boot! Sonny is so great I tipped quite generously. read more

Ho win used to be my favorite place to go to for Chinese food until last Friday. I will never spend another dollar there. On Friday I went out to dinner with my best friend we sat at the bar and immediately we were approached by a family really nice people we started talking laughing having a good time. We ordered drinks and food and when The family left the bartender came up to us and said " my manager told me that you guys have to leave you guys are too loud". Mind you it's Friday night 10:30pm everyone is having a grand ol time and we are asked to leave. Not once were we asked to keep it down we were just told to leave. Food had just came out and our glasses were still full. I told the bartender we hadn't even touched our food and she said you guys just have to leave so I asked for a box when I should have just walked out. Boxed my food and passed my debit card then she gives me the receipt and starts rushing me to sign and give it her. At this point I had had enough and I told her I paid you the card went through and I am finishing my drink I will sign the receipt when I'm done. She kept rushing me for the receipt. (Eyeroll) now I'm getting mad because now i feel like I'm being racially profiled. So I said to her I am not leaving you a tip so I don't know why you are rushing me for this receipt. Never did the manager come to us to say anything he sent the bartender to deal with it how unprofessional! We weren't being loud disrespectful r anything like that if anything we were friendly with the people that approached us and everyone at the bar. Hidden gem! On a Saturday night around 7, my boyfriend and I wandered into this restaurant with pretty low expectations... We were seated right away in about a half full dining area, in front of the bar where there were several tvs with various sports games on. The menu included many classic Chinese dishes, but also some Thai and lots of sushi! We had edamame, some salt and pepper shrimp, then a couple of sushi rolls. I was a little skeptical at first, but pleasantly surprised with the first bite. Everything tasted fresh and the crazy summer roll was delish!
