A tradition to go here over the holiday to enjoy the beautiful decorations in the bar area. If you get there before it's to dark you can see the lake from the bar, usually frozen but so majestic. My Old Fashion hit the mark for sure. Once we were seated at our table for dinner we were greeted by our waiter who was fantastic throughout our meal. My whitefish on a plank was very good. Sea steak was also very good! Which is a filet and lobster tail. The extra cost for French onion soup is worth it. To finish off our annual meal we had a Brandy Alexander which was made to perfection. The only disappointing thing is they use a unusual sour cream that makes me give it 4 stars. I wish I would've read the reviews before visiting this restaurant. Dated atmosphere but had that Supper Club vibe. Drinks were $9 and $10. Baked French Onion soup very good but the waitress spilled a bit while carrying. Salad was small and not impressive. Filet Mignon for $50 was over cooked and charred on the outside. Flavor average. The New York Strip, $62, was salty and not too flavorful. The potato au gratin was maybe three tablespoons of an over cooked dish in a small ramekin. Waitress was rushed and barely friendly until she dropped the $150 Bill off. The 4 gentlemen next to us were loud and tried to out brag each other. Critical of wives, etc. yes, we heard everything they said. The couple on the other side of us received better service although he wore his baseball cap the entire time. Great supper club. Let's start with the best part.... the location. The view of Lake Michigan from the bar and also a portion of the dining room is gorgeous! The bar and dining area has such an old time supper club feel and is clean and classy. Two of us had the filet oscar special and it was great. Good portion of filet and lots of crab. It was a good meal. Our other friend had the crab cakes with good reviews. Dinners come with both soup and salad. Both were good. I had French onion and a garden salad. My friends both had the spinach salad with hot bacon dressing, they enjoyed it. If u get the side of blue cheese, plan to share over 3 people, it is huge. Wasn't a fan of this place. The interior ambiance is cool... pretty vintage and unique. Definitely a hit or miss with some menu items. Steak was great however the appetizers (shrimp cocktail, calamari and stuffed mushrooms) were overly salty. My salad was mediocre at best. Soup (French onion) was amazing as was my cosmopolitan. The salmon was good, chicken was chewy, potatoes were blah, loved the creme brûlée. Waitress was slow and forgot water refills as well as my drink. Went with a group of 4 people and the bill was a little under $400. Not the worst but for the food we were served - definitely not worth it. If you're looking for a nice mad men experience w/ a great martini I would recommend this place -however, don't expect great service, prices or food. read more

We were here recently, I have never been compelled to write a review as I have never been impressed. This experience will probably be my last. We came here with a group of 10 to celebrate my son's HS graduation. The service was nothing special and very slow. This meal cost us almost $700.00. Now normally this would not be an issue as we eat at expensive restaurants frequently, but this is just a poor value and in no way justifies that price tag. We ordered the following: Muscles - Half of the order of muscles wasn't opened. I understand that shellfish dies, but you STILL plated it and sent it out. They shouldn't have even sent it out. We notified the waitress, she didn't care and it remained on the bill Calamari - Standard Soup - some had the baked French onion and some had the salmon chowder. My son found a bug in his Salmon chowder which caused everyone else to stop eating the chowder. Obviously disgusting. French onion was good. Salads - They really need to rethink the upcharge for their Cesar. I am more than willing to pay for additional items but this is the most poorly put together Ceasar. They literally use grated Kraft parmesan. ZERO flavor and so lightly dressed, it didn't taste like anything. Entrees - We all ordered a variety of entrees, most of them were steak. My son ordered the surf and turf which consisted on Filet and lobster tail. We were informed that they don't have the size lobster tail and that the surf and turf would be $150.00. They would not honor the price listed on the menu. That's just bad business...He ended up with steak and crab legs. The crab legs were old. He's young, so he was still impressed because he doesn't know any better. There were actually several items that were requested that they were out of. I had the filet medallions and they were absolutely awful. I only could eat one. The texture was so off putting. No one finished their steaks, which speaks volumes. I am a huge fan of supper clubs (Del Bar in WI Dells is my personal fave), but only if they are done right. This one is not. The one star I am giving is for the view of the lake and the French onion soup. This place really needs to step up their game or I don't see how this place can survive. read more

I was in snowy Wisconsin last week to film "The Book of Birdie," a new feature from London-based Melancholy Star Productions that's destined for next year's Berlin Film Festival. Absolutely fell in love with Kenosha and the surrounding area (a slice of Midwest "real America") and Hob Nob, one of the more than 300 supper clubs for which Wisconsin is deservedly famous. Many of the Supper Clubs reportedly started as roadhouses during Prohibition, then stayed on as "destination" restaurants where you could spend the whole evening, from cocktails to dinner and nightclub-style entertainment. Hob Nob, on the shore of Lake Michigan, fits the bill. The interior is right out of a movie set. Purple ceilings, chartreuse lighting. Behind the bar is a picture window overlooking the lake. You expect to see Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and the whole Rat Pack in one of the white tufted-leather booths. Our group was there on a Saturday night (1/9/16) piled into one of the booths near the bar and close to where a keyboardist was playing piano show tunes. It's the first time I've heard the theme from Billy Wilder's "The Apartment" (Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine) outside of the movie itself. I was in Heaven. The fare is straightforward American (steaks, seafood, chicken, pork and lamb chops, etc.) with the usual sides. The waiter was professional, but with Midwestern friendliness. Everyone in our group raved over the decor and the food. I started with an Old Fashioned cocktail (Of course!), then went on to the French onion soup, spinach salad, and hangar steak with citrus coulis. The steak came cooked to perfection and covered in a crunchy layer of french fried onion strings. I finished with a flourless chocolate cake, which was terrific, but wish I had tried one of the many dessert drinks (an alcohol-ice cream concoction piled high in a stemmed glass) that kept floating by on trays. Next time for sure. Hob Nob Supper Club is a step back in time that makes dining out an event. You go here as much for the atmosphere as for the food. The evening was delightful. We've been driving past Hobnob off and on for about 15 years and admiring their swanky neon sign. We finally followed through with eating there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The bar seats proved to be very popular at 5:30 on a Friday night, so with no room for us we asked to get a table, which wasn't a problem. We took a bar booth, which offered us a view of the bar and the lake. The restaurant was on the more upscale side, and patrons ranged from very casual clothing to sports coats. With all of the chatter, which was muted by the raised ceiling, we couldn't really hear the music, but it was a nice atmosphere overall. I ordered a glass of their house cabernet for $7.50 and enjoyed it. We were brought a basket of warm rolls and there was a big square of butter on our table. I ordered the tournedos of tenderloin, which were about $27 and came with a house salad, potato and soup. For the salad I went with the creamy garlic dressing which was thick and slightly sweet with a solid garlic flavor. The salad itself was mixed greens with red onion and a few chickpeas. My clam chowder was fine as were the au gratins. My steak was very tender and probably could have been cut with a butter knife. The beef itself wasn't overly flavorful but the bernaise and mushrooms made the dish fairly rich. Mr. R had the prime rib which was served bone-in. We took a look at the dessert menu and I was impressed with the reasonable dessert prices, especially considering they were homemade, but we passed on the final course. Our server was cheerful and professional and after our initial wait for putting in our drink orders everything was prompt and our waters were kept filled until we finished our meals. If I lived nearby I could see stopping at Hobnob a few times a year, but I don't think I will make the drive back from Milwaukee. read more

After many months of dreaming, I finally got to Hob Nob it. I went to the same birthday party as Martha Z. and we had a ton of fun playing around in the private party room, posing in the retro booths and at the bar. I love retro restaurants and this is the perfect place for me from the fake gold nude statues and sconces, to the tufted leather booths, to the purple flocked wallpaper. They have several private rooms including the tiny one Martha mentioned, and their main dining room overlooks Lake Michigan. The food was very good, and my single cut prime rib was huge and a great deal at $24.95 including soup, salad, and potato. Drinks were also affordable at $5 for a Tanqueray and tonic. It's a little out of my way, but I wouldn't mind coming back to the Hob Nob again sometime soon. read more

Given the wealth of fancy restaurants in the Racine area (eye roll), my parents choose Hob Nob when they have something to celebrate, and dad's birthday qualified. The menu states that meals can take between 1.5 and 2 hours. No joke. While on the one hand it's nice to not be rushed, holy hell do meals take forever. FOREVA. Maybe that's why meals include soup, salad, and entree. The meals were all delivered as specified, but I had to ask several times for water refills. My preference is to sit in the outer room; the inside seating with the bar is much darker and louder; the outer room, while perhaps a bit more chilly with the glass walls, has better lighting and acoustics. Unless you count the piece of plastic that was outstanding in my Loaded Baked Potato Soup. Normally this sort of mistake is comp'ed with a drink or dessert. Nope. Nothing. Entrees here are predicable, overpriced, and boring, not an ounce of creative effort in any of it. This restaurant is a museum and so is its food. Stick to the drinks and the view if you're feeling nostalgic. Some restaurants are expensive. Let's take a moment and get over the fact that this is, unfortunately, an expensive restaurant. Moving on. Hobnob is retro in a tacky-yet-delightful way. It's dark and velvety with padded circular booths, white linens, and a long bar in the dining room. The bar has a view of Lake Michigan, which I'm sure is lovely--I wouldn't know, since it was raining heavily when I went and you couldn't see a thing. Nonetheless, we cozied up to the bar and had Old Fashioneds, which is what you do if you're in a Wisconsin supper club. They were potent (particularly the whiskey variety) and delicious. We moved from the bar to a table with ease. I had a spinach salad with a warm bacon vinaigrette--heaven. It tasted like German potato salad. Since this was a special occasion, we each had a petite filet topped with crispy onion rings and three shrimp on the side (one of us got fried, the other grilled). Our entrees also came with bread, a cup of soup, and a choice of potato. The soup du jour was gumbo. I was hesitant about how good a gumbo would be at this restaurant, but it was surprisingly tasty. I got the boiled parsley potatoes, which needed salt and pepper, but were otherwise fine. Somewhere in there, we decided more Old Fashioneds were in order. That was a good idea. We topped it off with dessert. Husband had a very good flourless chocolate cake and a coffee. I had an apple crisp which I had high hopes for, but fell flat (oddly chewy, not enough crisp). First off by saying Hob nob is a very unsanitary and hostile environment. Most likely hasn't been updated in over 20 years possibly more. Over priced for what it's worth.There's mold in the walk in cooler above the food and there's mold in the ice machine every-time I pour water and see a black piece floating I have to apologize for the inconvenience. They reuse old bread and butter if the customer doesn't finish them. They also served blue points out of the garbage to their regular customers approved by the head chef (hugged the same customer with no guilt or shame). Worked there for a number of years no respect or appreciation given to there hard workers also over worked and underpaid. The owners live out in Florida they don't know what's going on more than half of the time and they just go by the cameras (the owner is a know it all but doesn't know a damn thing about business why it's failing the wife is snotty rude with an attitude). More than half of the servers are lazy and have a poor work ethic.(takes over 20 cig breaks and takes no trays back never prebusses and wants to go home early but doesn't wanna put in the work) horribly time management as well good luck getting your food on time (most of them need to get new meds it's like your in a mental hospital) . This place is a dying business that's going downhill and the founding owners (Higgins) would be very disappointed in what they become. Their management doesn't know what they're doing panics under pressure (is rude when panics). The head chef doesn't know how to cook panics under pressure very slow paced as well sits on his phone all night doesn't do anything but nags and complains. There is one amazing cook who does is it all and two great female bartenders the rest are talkers with poor work ethic with big headed egos (almost everyone there). Amazing lake view and vibes great band and pianist on Friday and Saturday. other than that this place needs to be shutdown for its health violations. I'm telling you on behalf of my experience how these individuals run there business very cheap and unprofessional they don't practice safe food services at all. My wife of 6 weeks and I have enjoyed Hob Nob on quite a few occasions. We appreciate the Sinatra/Rat Pack era motif, look and feel, eclectic design, consistently great food and service, beautiful lake views, and a private room we often secure for dinner. Add that all up, and we decided to have our wedding, here. The team did an amazing job. Guests as old as 73 are still raving and touting this as the best wedding in which they've participated. In addition to my wife working in her experience design mastery, the Hob Nob team made everyone feel at home, and were a key part of of making it a great event. We have a list in double digits of people with whom we'll be double dating at the Hob Nob over the next year or so. read more

The food here was unique. The soup and bread were certainly fresh and tasty. Our salads were an interesting change of pace. We had the spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. A nice change and yet very plain containing nothing but spinach leaves. Presentation of the main course was not spectacular, just plated food. I could have done that at home without much effort. Steaks were cooked correctly and that is sometimes half the battle. Potato side was small and overly baked, almost too crunchy to eat... I would like to note I love my augrautin potatoes to be a little crunchy... The biggest thing was my beverage. I got charged $5.00 for a bottle of who knows how old iced tea. It was tasty, but i got exactly two small glasses out of the bottle, no value there. The interior really is not elegant, unless you like thick plaster slathered on walls with chunky paint with lace curtains... Lots of old wallpaper and overall appears like Great grandma's living room... My wife and I were not so impressed. We can think of many other steak houses in the $75- $100 price range that we would rather visit. Would we go again? Probably, but it won't be in a hurry... First Let me say that It is VERY hard for me to give any establishment 5 stars, if possible I would definitely give the HobNob 4.5 stars. The first thing you notice is the decor. Excellent vintage decor! Sure, it needs a few updates here and there, but overall a very fun look. We started with drinks, which were delivered by our very friendly waitress, and were mixed very well. Appetizers were fantastic. A giant pot of mussels was comfort food and elegant at the same time. A la Cart French onion soup with plenty of bubbling cheese was definitely a good sign. We paired a Pinot Noir with the entrees which I believe did well. My steak was fantastic, and portions were PLENTY large. Ice Cream Drinks, Coffee, Chocolate Martinis, and a 20 yr Port were our dessert choices. All were wonderful. I believe our dinner stretched to near 2.5 hours, mostly because we told our waitress we were in no rush. GREAT food, blast-from-the-past atmosphere. My significant other and I were discussing which we like better: the Hob Nob or the Corner House, both located in Racine. After much deliberation, the Hob Nob was a clear winner for the following reasons: the bread is served in roll form rather than a large loaf that one must cut themselves - it can get a bit messy and crumb-y, plus there's no bickering over who gets the heel of the bread loaf, etc. Also, the Hob Nob offers onion STRINGS (not rings like the Corner House) with their petite filet mignons (my entree of choice), and I prefer the crunch of those to the sogginess of rings. Bear in mind, these are just personal observations and preferences. My only reservations of this place are: well, to make sure you have a reservation. NEVER go on a holiday like Valentine's day (I've sadly learned this one from personal experience) because the service can be lacking due to the crowd and they don't make special accomodations and food substitutions on holidays. Make sure you dress up nicely to get the full experience as I've noted a difference in the way one is treated by servers depending on their attire, especially in establishments like these. It can get a bit drafty in the dining area near the large windows facing the beautiful lake view, so be forewarned. Overall, a wonderful dining experience! read more

This was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! The food is amazing and the atmosphere is just as great! It's as classy as you can get and we had a 5 course meal that was just delicious. The only problem I had with our meal was that it took 3 hours for the entire process, but that was because the kitchen was backed up and it was completely worth the wait. My boyfriend and I had the duck roll appetizer, soup course, salad course, he had a filet entree, I had the whitefish entree, and we split a dessert and the total price was under $140, so it was extremely reasonable. The Hobnob is a great Wisconsin Supper Club. As soon as you enter, you know you stepped back in time to the 60's. White leather booths, dark wall paper and flowing curtains. What other restaurant still has a coat check? This is the place to go if you are looking for the elegance from your childhood. The kind of place you took mom on Mothers Day while she is wearing the big corsage you and your brother bought her. My wife and I took our 20 something daughter for dinner last night. She enjoyed the old fashion service and attention to detail. We started with cocktails that were made just right. At the Hobnob you have cocktails, not just drinks. My daughter ordered the flounder which she said was wonderful. My wife ordered the walleye which was plentiful and delicious. I had steak in a skillet. It was tender, cooked just right and served with very tasty tomatoes, onions and peppers. All of our meals came with soup and salad. I had the spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. It was great. The wine selection could be expanded a little but is adequate. Not once did we have to pour the wine, our server was always there. For desert, my wife and daughter both ordered ice cream drinks. I asked for a spoon and helped them both. This is the only place where you are encouraged to order an ice cream drink - no rolling eyes of the bar tender. They are hand made and piled high above the glass. A great treat. I should also mention that on Friday nights a three piece band plays the old standards thru the night. I was waiting for Frank, Dean and Sammy to step up from the bar and sing a couple. The price may seem high for the Kenosha/Racine area but when compared to Milwaukee and Chicago for the same quality and service, it is a bargain. This was a wonders night. If you are interested in traveling back to the vintage Wisconsin supper club and this is the place for you. The Decour, lighting, the piano player and the menu - but especially a cocktail menu, throwback to days gone by. Eating at the hobnob is an experience. We started the meal with fried calamari which was excellent. That was a statement not often made in the Midwest. Our entrées, my wife ordered the 8 ounce filet and I had the pepper corn encrusted New York strip, included both soup and salad. Everything was wonderful. Our waitress was young and attentive. The drinks were mixed just strong enough. All in all, I don't have a single complaint. If you're going to try the hobnob you need to understand right out of the gate that you're probably going to spend $50 per person. Just suck it up and own this fact or go somewhere else. This is not the sort of place I would visit weekly, or even monthly because it is inexpensive place, but for that special occasion this is the place you need to keep on your radar. I really enjoyed my visit to Hobnob. Yes, it's pricey, but the ambiance and food are worth it. You get A LOT of food. Bread, salad, soup, potato side plus your main dish.
