New to the area and been craving a specific green bean dish which they HAVE!! It's actually pan fried with garlic but wish I have them add chilies to make it spicy!! It's not sauces up like the other Chinese places around here so this dish alone makes me want to come back. I got their mapo tofu which itself is good as well but surprisingly they put bigger pieces of ginger in it which kinda shook my mouth but I'll take it. The salt and pepper pork was good but it could of been better. Because of how thin they are, after deep frying it it becomes somewhat dry. It's good but could be better. Great place for American Chinese done right ! The food fresh, flavorful and not dripping in oil . We went for the 30 dollar 2 person special and it did not disappoint. We did end up ordering more of their Hot and Sour soup since it was so good . The ladies that run this place are super sweet and mother you in the nicest way. Making sure you are having a good time . It's got a bit of an old school 80s vibe but that only adds to the coziness and comfort of the place . Finally for all you Pakistanis out there ... they have Chicken Corn soup ! We ordered from them last night, originally we were going to order through DoorDash but DoorDash hikes the prices up SO much! It seems a lot of people don't realize the restaurants themselves do not hike up their prices on these 3rd party delivery food apps like DoorDash/Grubhub etc it's actually the 3rd party delivery app themselves and it usually means the restaurant takes a pay cut and lose out on money. So don't order from delivery apps, order straight on their restaurant website. That's what we did and their delivery fee was ONLY $2, so I ended up giving a larger tip because their prices were not marked up at all and there were zero hidden fees. I laughed at myself after I submitted our order because on the part of the order page before submitting the order, it has a place for delivery instructions...for some reason my eyes and brain thought it was a note section so instead of putting delivery instructions for them I ended up writing a sweet note that stated it was our first time ordering from them and we were super excited to try their food for the first time and eat it! I felt a little embarrassed and thought to myself "omg they are going to laugh at me!" But instead the delivery guy (which I think is an everyday employee of the restaurant) was SUPER nice, he arrived before the estimated delivery time so he was early. The food was HOT, freshly made, packaged safely and the portions were huge! He had no trouble finding our apartment either. Broccoli was PERFECTLY cooked as well as the beef and the sauce was amazing, their steamed white rice was PERFECT and we give 5/5 stars, a lot of places mess up standard steamed white rice and usually it'll be mushy but hoicin steamed rice was SO good!. We ordered steamed pork buns (bao) and they were fluffy, cute and the pork inside was perfectly sweet and savory 4.5/5 stars, lastly we ordered hot and sour soup, 4.5/5 stars. Wish I could give half stars I would give them 4.5 stars for sure. We will be back to order from them and to try more on the menu. We definitely recommend and like most Chinese food it always taste even better somehow the next day after being chilled in the fridge after microwaving, especially the fried rice was even better today. I ordered from the following from this restaurant today, 1/9/21: -deep fried pork chop -Mongolian beef -deep fried fish filet -house fried rice -chicken chow mein Overall, the food was ok and the portions were big. The pork chops were good but a little greasy. I was disappointed in the Mongolian beef because the container came with mostly onions and barely any beef. The fish, fried rice and chow mein were all good but not great. Flavor-wise, I think they all could've been improved. There is another Chinese restaurant in the area that will stay as my go-to. This place is fantastic! I was greeted and seated within minutes. I ordered the orange chicken lunch special $6.50. It included your typical soup, egg roll and choice of steamed or fried rice. The soup of the day was a hot and sour soup alongside an egg roll. The soup was delicious with a perfect balance of vinegar and spice. The egg roll, as fellow Yelper, Tiffany K. claimed, was fried to perfection, crispy and not greasy. The filling was delicious also. Immediately after, my orange chicken came out. The fried rice was super yummo, while the orange chicken had this peculiar taste. I couldn't pin point what it was. I had enough to take home for leftover and when I had my son try a bite of the chicken, he nailed that peculiar taste of the chicken. He thought it was like eating a donut! Like a donut fritter batter. Interesting but not a fan of it. Although the orange chicken wasn't delicious, everything else was! I will definitely go back and try some of the other dishes here. We came back to give this place a second chance after our lackluster Fail on our last visit. We tried the made to order AYCE $15pp. The service was good today and all of the food was average to good. We tried the walnut prawns, pork fried rice, paper wrapped chicken, mongolian beef and deep fried pork chops. This place is a solid 3-3.5 stars with standard Chinese food. Hoicin, why are you so cinfully delicious? I usually don't crave for Chinese food, but this place gives me the willy nillies to eat some fly lice. Ma-po tofu hunky and spicy! Veggies so so fresh! Deep-fried porkchops crispy and salty! Chowfun paaawahfully saucy! Eggrolls suck. They have plenty of options - typical Americanized-Chinese plates as well as traditional Cantonese dishes. But don't go looking for Sum Yung Gai here. I don't think they have it.. well, as far as I can see. They may have that if you go down to Stockton Blvd for your Pho King. The food always comes out fresh and isn't greasy. There's so much body to the flavors. Even simple fried rice is loaded with flavor. Since my friends kept talking about an AYCE Chinese food place, I decided to try it out on a weekday with some friends. (So this review is just purely on their AYCE menu). It's $15.95 per person and it starts from 3pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. When we went in at 3pm, it was pretty empty, but we did come in a kind of awkward time. Anyways, even though the menu is huge, with every kind of Chinese/Cantonese dishes (from steamed fish to soup to dinner entrees), the AYCE menu is pretty small, with about a handful of appetizers and 20 entrees. We ordered almost all the appetizers, sesame chicken, Mongolian beef, chow mein, fried rice, deep-fried pork chop, honey walnut prawns, and ma-po tofu. (This was for four people, and we were pretty full after this). The portion for each dish was pretty big for a buffet (especially the fried rice and chow mein); standard family style dish size. I was pretty impressed at how all the food came so quick after we ordered. It's nice to be able to have everything on the table at once. Overall, the taste wasn't bad. It was pretty good for an AYCE. Nothing was cooked sloppily, although some dishes could have tasted better. The honey walnut prawns, was kind of disappointing as it lacked a hint of sweet taste to it. The sesame chicken was also no-go. It was too salty and was not quite crispy enough. The fried squid had big hearty pieces, but it was kind of bland and didn't have any taste to it. Fried rice tasted better and more flavorful than the chow mein, which was kind of bland. The hot and sour soup was done very well, which was surprising. I also really liked their Ma-po tofu; the flavor was good and the tofu was soft yet stayed intact. One of our favorite dishes was the Mongolian beef (I wish we had gotten two of these). Oh, and the foil wrap chicken (appetizers) was SO yummy. They come in small individual packages. I definitely recommend getting that! This place is definitely promising. 3.5 stars. Price matched taste pretty well. Just make sure you come with more people so you can order your money's worth as the dishes are pretty big. The food in the AYCE menu wasn't superb, but it wasn't bad at all. I am curious to come back and try their non-AYCE menu and their more traditional entrees. My family thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant in a strange little strip mall on Folsom Blvd. The menu is very big and covers a lot of different options Chinese. There are plenty of classic Cantonese dishes every American knows, to things like steamed Black Bass, Live Lobster and a bent towards the seafood that is not typical in your standard Chinese restaurant. If you want to eat more healthy, there are good options here, as well as a good amount of tofu and vegetable choices. The prices are fair, you can find a lot of entrees, great family style soup, from $10-15. They have an all you can eat option for under $20 a head. This is quality at a good price. We started with War Won Ton Soup. This is your upgraded won ton, and the dumplings seem house made with a huge tail of dough coming from them. The soup was delicious with lots of extras like big mushroom, bok choy and squid, scallop, shrimp and BBQ pork as far as proteins. Then we moved onto the Shanghai Dumpling. Great stuff. It was the dumplings that got me here, and will bring me back. For dinner we had the steamed flounder over Broccoli, Mu Shu Pork, and two shrimp dishes. Green Bean Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce, and Honey Walnut Prawn. All well executed by the Chef. It's a pleasure to see his food come out. Service was solid. Decor is ok, it's your average Chinese decor with just a splash of nicer lighting than average which makes it nice. I would like to go back and try some of the more eclectic offerings on a menu that can take you months to fully explore. read more

This review has been long overdue as I've been coming here for years! I order from here for dinner. I've taken my family here as well and they enjoyed the dinner entrees too. My favorite dish here is the chicken fried rice. I know it's the simplest thing, but something about the way they make their fried rice is different from other Chinese restaurants to me! My fiancé's favorite dish is the beef chow fun with gravy. I also like the wor wonton soup here. The customer service from the two women who work here has always been great. They're very friendly and the food is ready quickly. I've never had to wait for a table when I've come to dine in. When I order to-go, it's usually ready in five minutes. My only complaints are that the prices are a bit high compared to other Chinese restaurants, and the portions when dining in seem smaller than when I order the same food to-go. But other than that, I always come here when I'm craving Chinese food! read more

So I go here quite regularly. It is usually quick, but I tend to go in around 11 as opposed to noon since 1145 and after during the work week you can expect that things can get pretty busy at times. Service can drop off in this case since well... it's busy and they get a lot of phone orders considering the availability of delivery as well. In all fairness, any business can suffer from these type of issues; a moot point. They've always been quick, attentive, and friendly aside from those moments so I have no complaints in this respect. AYCE is nice but I've only been there once with just one other person with me, not a true utilization of this option in my opinion so I won't really comment on that. Other times I've also ordered delivery but I live within 5 miles so 20 bucks worth of food is delivered for free to my door. Definitely helped when my need for sustenance was high after a night out with friends. Drinking and laziness the next day seem to go very well together when lots of sports are playing on the tube. But I digress... The lunch special is quite on point for my needs since I can find a few vegetarian options on the menu for it. The dishes that I regularly get on the lunch special are the kung pao tofu, ma po tofu, bbq duck, and spicy eggplant. Typically, you get rice, fried rice, or chow mein with it along with an egg roll and soup while dining in. Side note: The chow mein for lunch is comprised of thinner egg noodles. If you don't like this, adjust accordingly haha. The spicy eggplant and ma po tofu usually come out piping hot which I like, and I kinda wish the kung pao tofu would come out the same way. I can kind of see it though that the tofu would disintegrate given the different style of cooking it between ma po tofu and kung pao so it makes sense, just a personal preference I suppose. And I just like roast duck, been a fan favorite since I was a little kid and the rents would get a whole one of them chopped up in a Styrofoam box. I mean really, what Chinese kid doesn't like that? I was a really big Chinese kid too so this was like heaven to me haha. The dishes have been good as far as their flavors so I can't complain certainly. As far as what I would get delivered to the house, aside from what has been mentioned I would also order yeung chow fried rice, and spicy green beans. Both dishes have been on point so I really have no complaints. The yeung chow fried rice was always well balanced with the amount of meat to rice so it was easy to get a complete bite throughout the dish. In all cases, the portion sizes sometimes varies but has always been good in my opinion. Bottom line: Overall it is good for the price (most other places are comparable, or the quality of their food is subpar to reflect the difference in quality from what I've seen in the area), especially the lunch special. Also if you're lazy like me and you live close, delivery for free is awesome. I know my liver and constitution after drinking have definitely been bolstered by this fact. read more

After having to try other Chinese places again with Hoicin being closed for the last couple of months due to the Covid situation, my opinion of Hoicin being the best has been re-solidified tonight. Everywhere we went, it just wasn't satisfying, with some, the leftovers wound up in the trash because we knew it wasn't going to get eaten. We went to many alternatives that had my wife's favorite dish, Peking Pork spareribs, even if it was a 90 minute drive but it wasn't the same. Even she, who doesn't really like Chinese food, gave an emphatic yes when I asked her if she wanted Hoicin since it was finally open as of today. She even said nothing compared to Hoicin after every unsat Chinese meal. Picked up food here since it was only like 6 mins away from my job. Called it around 10:20 am and ordered the honey walnut shrimp with chow mien and egg roll. Lady on the phone said it will be done in 20-25 mins. When I got there it was quiet, since lunch wasn't until 11 am, but there was a couple guys already eating there. The staff is friendly and greeted me and was expecting my arrival. I still had to wait about 5 mins, because I came too early. Anyways, the lunch special is okay. I don't like the chow mien, it was bland, just tasted like plain thin noodles with no meat or veggies. Eggroll is veggies only so that wasn't to my liking. OMG the food here is really Good! In fact, they serve the Best Dim Sum since our visit to San Francisco's Chinatown, you gotta try the Shang Hianese Pork Dumplings with Plum Sauce. Also, their Duck Noodles Soup and Asparagus Prawns and Cashew Chicken were solid, plentiful and delicious! The service is first rate, the ambiance more like a hole-in-a-wall and in a somewhat isolated strip mall, limited parking but in my-our opinion worth the visit! First time and we are sold!
