Had dinner here last night, it was a stroll down memory lane for me because we used to go here when I was a kid. Both the decor and the menu have been updated, but not overly so. Fried clams with bellies are some of my favorite New England foods, and I order them whenever I'm in the area. Unfortunately, these were some of the worst fried clams I've had. The fried clams were $31 with no sides, and the plate contained only 3-4 actual clams. The rest was just pieces of fried batter. I've attached a photo because I couldn't believe this was considered a full order. I asked the employee at the counter if this was the normal portion size. She shrugged and said she didn't know, so I asked if there was a manager I could speak with. The manager came out, offered a refund, took the plate back, and then slammed the door behind her. I later asked another employee whether I would actually be getting the refund, and she also shrugged and said she didn't know, adding that the manager would come find me. She never did. I ended up ordering a chicken wrap instead, which was fine, but the overall experience was disappointing. I understand Martha's Vineyard is expensive, but charging $31 for what amounted to a few fried clams and a pile of batter is ridiculous. read more

We had dinner at Homeport with a large group of 10 people on a Thursday night. They seated us around 5 minutes after we checked in and though we placed drink orders right away they did take a fair amount of time to come out. The restaurant was fairly crowded and our waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed. Our oysters didn't come out for half an hour, non-raw apps 45 minutes and our main courses didn't hit the table for almost 90 minutes. The oysters were fresh and we really enjoyed the summer succotash, stuffed quahogs and cornbread. For my main I had the Miso Tofu which was ok. It could have been spicier and the inclusion of corn ribs hiding in the curry felt like a mistake because I thought I had somehow found a bone in my curry. My husband liked the scallops he ordered but I had friends that didn't love the linguine and salmon. Rave reviews for the lobster dinner though. Overall it was a pretty uneven meal but the view and location are dynamite. read more

I'm baffled at the ratings here on Yelp for this place, it is totally undeservedly-low. It took me a long time to get around to reviewing but I wanted to make sure I got it done (was too busy vacationing to do it at the time). But, wow, this place was beyond fantastic. For starters the atmosphere and location was spectacular. In fairness, Martha's Vineyard is a nice backdrop regardless, but still. Right by the water, and they have their own parking, so unlike many other fine dining on the island, you'll not have worry about a place to stick your car. We sat outside, and it was clean and comfortable. The service was great. The server had mercy on our being utter newbs to the local fishery, he had a great sense of humor. I wish I could remember his name, but they were all friendly, so maybe it doesn't matter. I got a very small portion of oysters on the half shell, just to be sure I have at least a taste. Being from north Texas, I'm not used to having them so amazingly fresh but even options of kinds of oyster! I got the spearpoint oysters because the server said they were harvested the nearest to where we sat, literally like right off the water there. And I know I will probably not live long enough to ever taste oysters as delicious as these were. They. Were. FANTASTIC! And I'm not even some sort of connoisseur of oysters, but I did grow up on the Gulf of MEXICO so I suppose I've had the best we can get from there at least. Like a nerd, I just got 3 count. But they were unforgettable. They were ice cold and the mild saltiness of the encased water tasted like it must have literally been a bit of Atlantic ocean water, but in a good way. The side condiments went with perfectly... just perfection. Oh, and we also got the appetizer cornbread alongside the oysters, and it was sweet and flawless in a hot little iron skillet, with a saucer of smooth butter. I got the Grilled Swordfish (see pics) and wifey got Lobster Cobb. Both were fresh beyond anything we may have ever had in our lives. What we noticed in terms of the use of seasoning that is so different from what we're used to is since the seafood was so fresh the use of seasoning in general is very light, and the reason becomes clear. We're used to seafood being basically overly-seasoned in order to make up for less-than-remarkable seafood, perhaps less fresh, or worse, frozen. But here? The seafood is so delicious and was swimming in the ocean so recently that there's no need for burying it under a blanket of over-compensating flavors. The fish and lobster was delicious all on it's own. Now, that's not to say they didn't masterfully prepare this, oh no, the seafood and side dishes were magnificently made. This was especially true with the crabcake wifey got (wish I got a pic first). Southern cajun style Gulf crabcakes are often so overly seasoned and salty that the crab itself ends up an afterthought. But the crabcake here was like "hello, I'm what actual crab actually tastes like, nice to finally meet you." I should have taken a minute to yell into the kitchen a huge "thank you"! I wish we had more time to linger and drink in the moment, but we sure enjoyed our visit, and would LOVE to return anytime we're ever so lucky as to be back to the island. I imagine this place during the summer is absolutely packed. with that being said, most of the tables have a nice view of the sunset/harbor!! our server was very kind. Perhaps the worst fried whole belly clams i have ever had. Actually, they were the worst. $40 for the plate - came with maybe 5 clams. I go to pick them up and they were literally burnt (tasted like burnt batter). I brought them back as they were not edible, they made a replacement and it was like 3 clams with a bunch of well done batter. Im not a cook - but how do you f this dish up so bad? read more

Went last night because the ice cream bar closed early. Really nice experience! The setting is fabulous . I had the fettuccine with two colossal shrimp. Well prepared and with lots of cherry tomatoes with good garlic and a healthy serving. Daughter had the fish and chips which were also excellent. Service was attentive. read more

Nice place if you have patio reserved seating around 730pm. Service was good. Food was not worth the price. It's a fixed price menu. $79 for appetizer, entree & dessert per person. Oysters, shrimp, etc would be an additional cost outside of what's listed as an appetizer. Food presentation was nice, however it lacked flavor. Miso blue fish has a sweet sauce on top but it did not pair well with a smoky & dry quinoa on a bed of bok choy. Salmon was also dry but it was paired with a watermelon radish, butter beans and cucumber salad which was good. IMPORTANT. This area is a DRY TOWN. So you MUST BYOB if you want alcohol with your meal. Suggest you bring at least 2 bottles for 3 or more people. Otherwise, it is strictly water (still, sparkling or tap) and soda only. View is decent while eating since it sits near shallow water. But I would forego the $200+ bill and just order the local Menemsha oysters & dessert with the wine you carried in just for the experience. read more

I was surprised by the overall rating and so many bad experiences. My 14 year old daughter and I went anyway as we came by boat and there were not many options for sitting down. The staff was young, energetic and polite. I chose a 6:30 dinner to enjoy the sunset. This is probably their busiest window but everything was handled well. They had a great selection of oysters (Wellfleet and 2 locals). I enjoyed my swordfish and the smores pie was a unique option for dessert. The food came out in a timely manner albeit the oysters after the main and the complimentary cornbread last, but its the summer and they were slammed. I personally appreciate the free corkage as its a BYOB policy. They had charming light globes under the umbrellas for when it gets dark. The whole experience was worth doing again in the future. read more

We went to Homeport last Tuesday with a group of 11 for dinner. Three of us ordered the lobster dinner ($65) and two were very undercooked. When I cracked the tail on mine, black gelatinous gunk was everywhere. Totally unable to eat it. Looking into it later, it confirmed our suspicions that it was very undercooked and that what I saw was the roe that when cooked properly turns orange. I didn't complain at the time as we were being treated by our daughter and son in law and didn't want them feel badly. BUT, for the amount we paid for dinner, I would think Homeport would know how to cook a lobster correctly. We've been going to Homeport for over 40 years and this was such a disappointing experience. read more

Good news was that the oysters were top notch (if quite overpriced) and our waiter was attentive and accommodating. A couple of years ago, after frequenting the HomePort at least once a summer for 45 years, I was beginning to have hope for this uniquely situated place with a stellar view. They had changed the menu from the typical fried seafood and had some more interesting dishes which held some promise of a more creative trajectory. But alas, this year I had a hard time finding anything appealing on the menu and found the food to be predictable and overpriced.... $43. for fish and chips?! It's a shame since this could be the island's premier eating destination if only someone had a little vision and skill. read more

Had a great meal at the Homeport a couple of weeks ago. It was a beautiful but a little chilly Spring evening. We sat inside had a great table with the view of the sunset. There were 5 of us eating.We brought a few beers and ordered a bottled seltzer to drink. We started out with oysters and shrimp, which were fresh and delicious. We all ordered something different for our entrees, scallops, swordfish, steak, pasta and salmon. Everyone was happy with their entrees and we all shared dessert, key lime pie, strawberry shortcake and smores. We could not finish all of the dessert as we were full from our meal, but they were all amazing. I love that it is no longer price fixe menu and that you can order as you wish. We will definitely be back. Max the Manager is great, she stopped by and assured we were all happy with our food and I witnessed her stopping at other tables as well.She is very welcoming and wants to ensure everyone is enjoying their evening. read more

Been coming to the Vineyard for 50+/- years; worst lunch we ever had! Literally couldn't find the tuna, looked because I couldn't taste it. My wife had the oyster fajitas, four, each was supposed to have an oyster but at best they split one oyster for all the wraps; I have no idea how they got as much batter to stick to the minuscule amount of oyster. I came here as a group of six for a friend's birthday dinner during a recent trip to Martha's Vineyard. Dinner was delicious and enjoyed by everyone! We had a reservation for 8:00 on a Monday and were seated right away. There is a set prix fixe menu for dinner ($75 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert) which I found very reasonable considering the quality of food along with portion sizes!! We also had a picky eater in our group who was able to find something he enjoyed on the menu for all courses. I opted for mussels as an appetizer with lobster for my main course. The mussels were very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The lobster was massive with very tender meat. We also had corn bread for the table which was some of the best cornbread I've ever had!! The restaurant is BYOB with a small corkage fee. With the fee paid you do get four take-home wine glasses along with ice for the table. A meal at this restaurant was a great way to kick off our week to vacation!! read more

Most enjoyable evening. We live nearby but hadn't been to the Homeport for several years. I had worked there as a teenager and it was always a special treat to visit at least once a year. Excellent food for a great price. $79 includes an appetizer, entree, and a dessert. There are also a few bread options to start and also raw bar add ons available. You are able to see the ocean and the sunset from the outside porch. The service was incredible. Our waiter was so friendly and very knowledgeable with the menu and was able to answer all of our questions. Don't forget, this is a BYOB establishment. read more

We, a party of ten, ate at the Home Port the evening of September 24, 2024. I had read some mixed reviews from 2021 through 2023, and was therefore a little apprehensive. i am happy to report that the food was uniformly well prepared and the service prompt and attentive. We ordered lobster, scallops, oysters, clam chowder and calamari. Everyone was satisfied with their order. The menu prices are high, but that is par for the course for Martha's Vineyard. The decor could perhaps use a little further sprucing up. The location overlooking the harbor and lobster boat docks is ideal for a seafood restaurant. We have had three dinners at Homeport this summer and I am happy to report that the Homeport has hit its sweet spot. This is a casual summer place in a remote location with a mostly young college crowd working seasonally. Do not expect fine dining and hushed service, or bargain prices on an island. But damn, some of the food is really good and you simply cannot beat the view. On my most recent visit, the service was a little slow, the college age waiter forgot to tell us about the specials and we waited a bit for some ice buckets for the wine we brought. But you know what? The fried squid was the best I have ever had. The swordfish was juicy and that is a hard trick to pull off. And the local scallops were simply divine. Turns out the waiter was from our home town back in the USA (so no points against him). I think we will be back for a fourth and fifth dinner before our season on the island ends. read more

It was a rainy day on Martha's Vineyard. No worries, sit, read, listen to the rain...BUT The craving for a fried clam roll began early that day, and built to a late morning crescendo. Logging into Yelp helped locate the nearest possible solution - Home Port. A quick call confirmed that the solution was at hand! Our family piled on the idea, with comments like "lobster roll", "steamers" and take out. Located in the only "dry" town on the island, this BYOB restaurant offers limited harbor side seating, a raw bar and covered dining upstairs. The location is postcard, smack in the middle of the port town of Menemsha. A little walk up window in a small parking lot, with some chalkboard menus offered classic access without reservations - which are recommended two weeks in advance in season! On a nice day the lines are long, parking is impossible, and the wait excruciating as your fresh seafood makes its way to your hands/table. But this is a rainy day - so the line is short, and our 15 minutes well worth the magnificent full belly clam roll (with house made tartar sauce, of course) and a fantastic fresh lobster roll (available warm or cold) and a full-blown seafood feast back at the house. Not the Homeport of years ago :( This is my number one spot to eat every year. We were very disappointed when we came covid year and waited longer for the reopening. Many places were hit hard due to covid, so we were patient hoping things would improve. This year we were so happy that HP was under new management, but the prices tripled! We ended up paying $600 for a party of 5. I do t mi d paying that if I feel the food and service is worth it. In this case, the food was so-so. I didn't like that dessert was included, because each person got a sliver of pie( not very good pie at that) as the only choice , 4 little pieces of cornbread when we had 5 people, and no regular bread. The linguine and clams was almost tasteless. The other meals were forgettable. The HP used to have a delicious fresh baby greens salad and that is long gone. I hope things improve here, because it's our yearly stop. read more

Not the place it used to be. We're longtime diners at Home Port but hadn't been since 2019 so we were excited to get back to it. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything good we can say about the experience. The menu is now a $75 fixed price for three courses, one of which is dessert. There are a variety of options but no combination particularly adds up to $75 in value. Clam chowder + fried fish and chips + a slice of pie for $75? Even if you order the lobster you're still not getting your money's worth. Add to that, the food simply isn't very good. Across our group we had the mussels, chowder, house salad, fried oysters, fish and chips, tuna nicoise, steak frites and not a single person noted anything remarkable about their meal. Again, certainly not worth $75. To make matters worse, the service was simply abysmal. The staff was nice enough but our server got our order wrong, didn't put in two of the appetizer orders until after all the others were delivered and forgot to put in two entree orders (but not for the same two people from the appetizers). As the entrees came out, they were delivered individually rather than all at once with several minutes between each--it was easily 20 minutes between the first and last to be served (not counting the two that we had packed to go because they were never brought to the table!). Our server kept coming by saying "everything else will be right out" didn't show any particularly sense or urgency or acknowledge the situation. I'll also note that ate outside and while the view is nice enough, once the sun went down it was so dark that some in our party resorted to using their phone flashlights just to see what was on their plates. There was absolutely no light at our table, not even so much as a candle. Normally we try to limit our reviews just to our experience, but it was clear that many of the people around us were having similar experiences with the service and disappointing food. And given the totality of it all, we don't think this was just an off night. It seems as if these are larger, systemic problems. Loved the location! The food and our server was good but we were there for 2 hours. The wait for food was ridiculously long. We waited for close to a half hour to order. Another 45 mins for appetizers and then another 45 mins for dinner. It was past 10pm by the time we finished that we just had our desserts boxed up to go. I understand they were very busy and apparently under staffed, but something needs to change if people are consistently complaining about how long they're waiting for food. All the recent reviews I've read recently say the same. Maybe cap the number of tables you can handle at one time? read more

Incredibly expensive for a rather blah menu, Liguini for 65$, the cheapest item, then to make things worse there was a 30$ charge to split a main dish , it was Byob with. 15$ corkage fee. We left without eating. I think that we would have stayed if there wasn't the solit plate fee. read more

Awful food. Overpriced tourist trap!! View is great but you can get that free elsewhere. Cornbread was burned. Linguine and clams were in a sauce that was way too salty. Steak tasted like it had been baked earlier and they just seared grill lines on it to make it appear fresh. Floor was disgusting and needs to be refinished or replaced. Damage and scratch marks all over the floor. The restaurant was closed for renovations so I have no idea why they didn't fix the floor. Service was not good. We had a 7:15pm reservation and didn't leave until 9:45pm because of the delays with receiving our food. No manager came by to apologize for the ridiculous delay. The food was ok. Careful. The great reviews here are years old! This is not the Homeport of pre-COVID. New management and a tough time for staffing. Still.... Woeful dining experience. 7 pm reservation. Seated at 7:45. By 9:00 we'd only had appetizers (oysters and sandy steamers). There is NO GUARANTEED PARKING so you're stuck in the utter mess of Menemsha's sunset-seeking tourist traffic. The service is very friendly, but inept. (Our table was never cleared of finished dishes). The food is overpriced, even by Vineyard standards, with only a prix fixe menu, $15 per bottle corkage, $30 surcharge to share. The food is actually quite decent. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. The French fries and onion rings were hot and crisp. The views are very pretty,but we felt so ripped off by the prices and haphazard service that they overwhelmed the evening. We're locals, happy to see the Homeport reopened. Hopefully they'll iron out the overcrowding and tweak that prix fixe menu. read more

Home Port had been a staple of our MV experience. This was the first time back post COVID, and it was horribly disappointing. The first issue was the $79 prix fixe menu. As others have noted, the meal combinations don't add up to a $75, which you could overlook if the food was great. It was not. The food was mediocre at best, and the desserts were barely edible. To be totally honest, the food is probably 3.5 stars. The views from the outdoor patio are great, the ambiance is nice, and the menu itself looks like it should be 5 stars. However, at a $79 fixed price menu, it was really quite shaky. Watermelon salad was 2 sort of sad looking rectangles of watermelon. The steak frites was fine, but the steak was incorrectly cooked and also about 1/3 tough fat. One would expect better for the price. But, great views of the water... read more

We had a 6:15 reservation. We were one of three tables in the restaurant. After 15 minutes with no water, no anything and no waiter or help of any kind we despaired and left. Was it rudeness? We gave Homeport another try this season and were sadly disappointed. The menu was promising, but unfortunately what we were served was really sub par. The prix fixe prevents people from ordering what they like, especially kids trying their first seafood appetizers. It was also expensive for what we received. While the steamed mussels were good, no one was pleased overall. The desserts were oddly plated, not very special. Someone commented they were like school lunch desserts. We'll keep our ears open for updates to this old favorite, and will return only if significant changes happen. read more

I really don't like to give a place one star but home port deserves it. It's a great location and could be a great place, but the food is miserable, like they aren't even trying to do a great job because people will always come here for the location. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. Try the place across the street if you can get in, or takeout from one of the two fish markets (Menemsha or Larsons) at the end of the side street just before you hit Home Port. I had the lobster roll and it tasted like they were using frozen lobster out of a can. No way to know if that's the case, but does it matter if that's what it tastes like? Had the iced tea which was loaded to the brim with ice and a little tea poured over the top. Wasn't bad tea at all, though, and it was enough to get me almost all the way through the lobster roll. I've been coming here for years and am usually only mildly disappointed, given that most places on the Vineyard do a really good job and this place is always well below par. This last visit was my last, though. Again, I don't like to bash places but it doesn't seem to me as if they are even trying to be good, so I think they deserve to be called out on it. There's no excuse for making a poor lobster roll at the height of the summer season when everyone around you is doing a fantastic job. Maybe if you're in Minnesota or something, but not a waterfront place in the Cape Islands. read more

Never again! After this restaurant being a must stop for years we will never return. The experience ended with us paying a kitchen appreciation tax. The owner said she couldn't pay their wages to keep them so she added this fee to our bill. The meals where already expensive to begin with. Prefix you pay 74.00 you pick appetizer main course and dessert. For example. Then there is a $15 charge for a recorking if you bring a bottle of wine in. The food was just like everywhere else nothing special. The only thing they went out of their way to do was find a really nice gluten-free dessert. Which was a nice surprise.
