I was doing the touristy thing and window shopping on South Congress. I had seen that Home Slice had an outstanding number of reviews, and while I wasn't hungry, I knew I had to taste what I had read was the best pizza ever. I guess I had really high expectations. It just seemed like a regular thin slice of cheese pizza. It was fast and a great idea just to have a carry out window facing the street. This was my fourth time at Home Slice. We live in Temple, a pizza wasteland. So a trip to Austin often includes Home Slice. For Texas, its pretty good and the best we have found so far. But I don't think its time to quit looking. I have yet to have a bad server. They are friendly and attentive and are ready to suggest ideas. The greek and the authentic (not creamy) caesar salads are superb. Garlic knots almost outshine the pies. The pies are subtle, best consumed in house. The delicate crust won't be quite as wonderful after a drive home and a pizza-box suana/steambath, but its still good. 4 stars instead of five due to half of one of the larges overcooked and the noise level. read more

I came here a while ago with my boyfriend and haven't been back since because of the aweful customer service, but I guess they can get away with that since it is a popular spot in Austin. I called ahead and asked if they take reservations and they said no, so my boyfriend and I just decided to head over anyway. There was no line outside when we got there and when we walked in I immediately saw an open table on the floor so assumed it wouldn't be too long but the host told us it would be over an hour. We went to go get a drink on the back patio and wait and noticed there were three other empty tables. I went to the host stand and mentioned that there were a lot of available tables and no line so I didn't understand why the wait would be over an hour. The guy rudely responded "yeah, you can go next door and order a slice." Then another young couple walks in and he tells them the same thing. Right after a party of four come in and he seats them immediately at a table. Since my boyfriend and I had already driven downtown, we just odered a slice and sat on the padio (area where anyone is welcome to sit but you get no service/waiter) the whole time we were there the three tables on the lower padio, that we were told we couldn't sit at, we're never even used. The pizza is good but nothing special and the garlic knots are good too (we weren't able to order them, because you have to be seated at a table, but i have tried them in the past and they're good) just not good enough to put up with that again. It's seems like the host was just picking and choosing who to seat based on party size and looks...I haven't been back since and really don't plan to. There are so many better places to eat in Austin (you would probably get better service and food at a food trailer, honestly) but if you are just dying to try it, I suggest just going to the window and buying it by the slice so you can avoid the insane wait time and rude staff. read more

Arguably the best pizza in Austin. It's almost always busy but worth the wait.

A very cool place, great location, awesome and friendly staff; however the pizza is just ok. Nothing special at all, but not bad. Really expensive toppings, and you don't get much of them on the pizza at all. I'm not sure I'd have liked to have seen one without extra cheese. It's a bit thinner than I usually like, but at least most of the crust wasn't burnt/cracker pizza. I've never understood how it's somehow become a common misconception that NY style = burnt to a crisp, which couldn't be farther from the truth. I do recommend specifying that they "undercook" your pizza so you don't get burnt to a crisp crust. All in all: Middle of the road pizza, but a good place to hang out. read more

Had 2 pie's from here and probably the worst restaurant pizza in recent memory. You'd be better off getting delivery from a chain and saving on gas and while getting something more palatable. The place is also unpleasantly warm, quite unclean, with dirty glasses and utensils. Also they serve wine in what looks like use candle holders. read more

I grew up in NYC and know a thing or two about pizza. There crust is awesome but the cheese and sauce were missing from the pizza. There was hardly enough of either. There are better places in town. Try brroklyn pie, saccones or reales. They make a better slice read more

This is a great pizza joint! It's in a good location in Austin. And make sure you visit the restrooms. They aren't labeled Men and Ladies, but they use very clever "pizza symbology" for each gender. I'm so dumbfounded. I have had a craving for pizza all week and wanting nothing more than to go to Homeslice Pizza . Well I walked in today and asked to sit at the bar since I had been there alone. There were plates on the bar and a couple that had just sat down so I asked if it was ok and the host told me it was just fine. So I walk up to the bar and sit down and the guy behind the bar is like what's up and no one says anything so I immediately say, "hey how's it going?" In my normal upbeat tone only to get the cold shoulder from the server. I then spot a menu a couple people down so I ask them if I could have it while he's cleaning up in front of me, I make a crack about how I have one when he then brings more menus. He's not having it, he makes a rude remark under his breath and snatches the extra menu out of my hand. I then start to take offense to his actions because he blatantly ignores me and helps the people next to me takes there drink order and still I get nothing. After he comes back a 4th time to take their order I ask if I can order a drink and he says "first come first serve" as to say no I can't even aid you in a glass of water. Ok. Fine. He walks away, STILL not taking my order and sets the pizza tray in front of the couple next me affixed nicely with napkin and silverware only to let out a big ol' sigh and say, "ok, can I help you?" in the most rude tone I could convey through words. I take a breath because by now I'm livid and say, "no thank you I'm just going to go" and he then tips it off by saying "thank you!" as to finally get rid of me because I had been such a burden on him. I really did not like this place, my girlfriend said it was pretty good but I was fooled, the pizza is already mad all they do is re heat it, if I wanted my pizza re heated I would have just bought a pizza from HEB and heat it in the stove at home. homeslice makes a solid pizza and has a really chill atmosphere. i think it might epitomize the austin local dining experience. i personally hate when you ask someone, "who has the best [insert whatever] in town?" and you get a recommendation for a merely mediocre place. when i first came to austin, i was told that huts has the best hamburgers in town. it was a normal, greasy hamburger. i thought that austin people didn't know what they were talking about. but i can safely say that homeslice is the best pizza joint in town. and there's really nothing else to say about that. read more

After moving here less than 2 months ago from a community where everything is priced WAY LOWER than the Austin area- I go onto my online banking to find this almost 20.00 charge for my husbands LUNCH?! He explains no it was the best damn pizza he ever had and he was bringing home leftovers. Right 20.00 pizza at lunch what the hell. Leftover it was Ok but a week later he had to take me to this place and I fell in LOVE with this pizza. The key to the best pizza here is pepperoni and FRESH mozzarella. Don't be all cheap and not get the fresh mozzarella thats like the icing on the cake you wouldn't be cheap at a bakery and say no icing would you? Never had to really wait even during lunch hour during the week. ooh and the greek salad and tirimisu is great!
