If you've ever lived in Austin, let alone anywhere in Texas - be prepared to be disappointed. Nothing about these tacos were Austin-style. From the watered down salsa to the unmelted cheese to the charro beans, it was all wrong. Not only that, but we waited over 45 minutes for these mediocre tacos. In Austin, breakfast tacos take about 5 mins MAX! Don't even get me started on the watery, grainy latte either because that's a whole other story. We had really high hopes after moving here from Austin, and I hate to say it, but this place just isn't it. Would be better off dropping the Texas marketing so people like us aren't so let down. read more

The chicken taco and loaded queso was delicious! I also tired the spicy Margarita which was the perfect amount of spice. The staff was friendly, and came around to check on our table a few times to make sure all was good. Parking was the only challenge to start off the visit, but that is part of dining in South Oceanside. I definitely recommend this little gem if you're looking for a casual bite to eat. read more

This place seems cute, the service is friendly and fast! The food seems fresh & the brisket was nice and soft (+I didn't get any inedible gristle bits!) Looks like a kid & dog friendly place. But, as a few other reviews have mentioned, the taste is lacking. I tried three different tacos and they were all incredibly bland. If you're looking for a low sodium, zero seasoning experience (perhaps for blood pressure reasons) this place is a great choice. I hope they can pivot a bit and sort out that missing element.. there's loads of taco places in town at a comparable price and atmosphere that pack more of a punch in the flavor department. Really cute new spot in South O! Food was really good, we got 5 different tacos and we were not disappointed. I like that you can choose corn or flour on all the tacos. My only critique is I wish the food was slightly hotter in temp but I like my food on the verge of almost burn my mouth hot. We splurged and got the potatoes with queso. I've been long overdue for writing a review for HomeState. Gilbert's excellent customer service made me remember to write a review this time. He greeted us as we walked in, gave great suggestions on new things to try like the Picadillo on a corn tortilla, and offered us a sample of the frozen margarita which was delicious. Love this place!! My son introduced me to HomeState in LA a few years ago so I was thrilled when they opened in my hometown of Oceanside! Tacos are amazing (Trinity is my favorite) and the spicy paloma's are delicious!! My only issue is that they no longer offer Happy hour drinks to go! I used to swing by after a long day at work to get a taco and paloma to take home and relax. I don't really like to sit by myself to dine, so this is really disappointing. I no longer frequent HomeState as much as I used to but I still recommend HomeState to everyone! read more

The food is AMAZING and the service is incredible! I first met Grace and she is the sweetest around! I also have the privilege to meet Sean who's one of the the Lead's there. If you go in and both and Sean and Rose are working, you're in for a treat! The very last time I went in, I what I thought looked like a long line and it would take forever to get my food was far from it. Sean was working and he goes above and beyond as the Lead!!! He is not only one of the friendliest person I've ever met, he's absolutely on-top of everything and everyone that comes in! He makes sure everyone in the entire restaurant is beyond happy and checks in with with customers to see if he could improve their dinning experience, he also keeps the restaurant's cleanliness's beyond perfect and always stocked with everything! I've only been here a few times and Sean always goes out of his way to make a you are seen and that you're at, "Home" when you're here! I know about I've been writing all about the experience but I promise you will not be let down food wise! Everything is fresh, you see the cooks make it while you're there. I LOVE the chicken tacos but they have TONS of options, check this place out! You'll be happy you did! He checks in with everything, keeps flowing at a perfect and speedy pace. I was so excited to try this place out! No wait late Friday which was great! The music was a little loud I thought but fine. I ordered tacos and they were good. My dad and I noticed there was a lot of cabbage in them. I said I only usually have cabbage in Fish Tacos. My dad said it seemed like they put extra cabbage to make up for a lack of protein. I agree. I thought it was strange there were no limes offered. Also, I was not sure if the chips were included or extra. It seems like you have to order and pay for them separately. Nice new location! Coming from Texas I was super excited to try this place. The tacos were good! We got the loaded Queso and for tacos we got the Ft. worth, Tijuana panther, Guadalupe, and the potato taco. Overall the tacos were solid. The biggest issue was how cold everything was. The chips were cold the tacos were cold and the Queso was cold. On the potato taco the cheese was solid from how cold it was. I would suggest trying to bring the food out warm at least. read more

Stopped by Thursday night around 7pm. As I walked in, another family entered behind me. There were no others in the entire place except the four individuals working that night. Ordered just one Trinity taco on flour to go. Once I got the taco to my car, I unwrapped immediately expecting it to be like others I've previously had from this location. Imagine my surprise when biting into my taco, instead of finding a warm flavorful treat, my bite was filled with cold potato chunks that apparently the employee forgot to nuke. A cold tortilla with unmelted cheese added to my dismay. The only warm item was the egg. Very disappointed. I recognize how difficult it is to find employees and even more difficult to train them but honestly when I go into any restaurant, I have high expectations for the service, the employees and especially the food. I have been to this location before & not had these same issues but consistency is what keeps customers coming back and restaurants in business. Mediocre food is available everywhere so it seems that standing out & providing the type of food, service & employees that will make customers want to frequent your establishment, would be high on your list. read more

Maybe my favorite place to eat in Oceanside besides Wrench and Rodent or fusion style restaurants. Everything is good, filling and has a unique spin to it. Frito pies and crazy good chorizo queso, a lot of other great starters and mains. Drinks are stiff, like a Texan's upper lip. Fun layout, it does get noisy but kids and laughs are why. The service is friendly and very upfront about answering questions, their favorites are usually what we go with. read more

This is the best taco restaurant I've ever been too. We first had Homestate in LA and ever since we've been coming back as soon as we can because of how good it is. All tacos are amazing but my favorite is the potato tacos, however the appetizers are amazing too (migas and queso) it's busy inside but worth the wait. Came here on a Friday at lunch with my husband. We tried the the lil queso and the panther, Fort Worth, potato, chicken, and picadillo tacos. The portions were a good size, the staff was friendly, food came out in a reasonable time. I liked the creative combinations they have to offer. The tacos were just ok for us.
