I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Heller. My 15 year old cat was diagnosed 5 months ago with oral cancer by a local vet in Green Valley. The vet gave her between 1 to 2 months to live. 4 weeks later Rosie had a follow up visit and the tumor had grown. The vet switched her to a slower acting steroid lasting 6-8 weeks. She was injected with steroids which made her active and hungry. in mid December Rosie was again not eating, drooling excessively and lethargic. A third shot was given along with antibiotics. This injection lasted less than 3 weeks. I began to notice signs of pain and called to get medication for her and a status update on if it was time to let her go. No mention of euthanasia but She was given another steroid injection plus something for nausea. She rallied for 5 days. She then fell into heavy pain meowing, restless couldn't be touched and stopped eating. I was up all night with her and called her vet first thing today to request euthanasia. The response was she could not be seen for four days. Finding favorable reviews for Dr Heller, I called for help. Dr. Heller was at my home in Green Valley within 3 hours. He was so kind, very gentle with her. I sat with her in my lap in her favorite spot on my back porch where she would sit in the sun and watch the birds. The first injection gave her immediate pain relief. She sat up and was very alert. The 2nd shot was ketamine to relax her. She locked eyes with mine and for a long moment then lay her head on my chest. The 3rd shot was the one to stop her heart. He left me alone with her for a few minutes then wrapped her in a baby blanket and said she would remain wrapped out of respect. Dr. Heller was able to be there within hours (he was in green valley & offered to drive up that night to OV) and assess Beau's condition & confirmed he was having severe neurological issues due likely to lesions. Prior to calling him, I spent 8 hrs at the ER Vet. For several days his condition did not improve. Having a house call by Dr. Heller was a blessing for our family. Beau was able to be in a calm & stable location and we were able to get him evaluated without causing further stress or anxiety for Beau. When my 17 year old cat Charlie's kidneys shut down, I texted Dr. Heller. He responded immediately and said he could come to help put her down at my house. I wasn't ready and wanted one more last night with my sweet cat. We scheduled for the next afternoon. He came over to my house, and checked her out. He agreed that it was her time. Dr. Heller explained what to expect and what he was going to do. I was able to hold Charlie in my arms as her gorgeous little spirit left her body. I can not recommend Dr. Heller enough. This past week, our 13.5 year old beloved chocolate lab suddenly could barely walk. Dr. Heller made time at the bed of his day to come to our home and evaluate our guy. Afraid the first words out of the doctors mouth would be Euthanize, I was pleasantly surprised he gave us the option to try medication to see if it helped. In this case it did not and we did not want our boy to uncomfortable or scared for another day. Dr. Heller came back the next morning. Euthanasia is a difficult decision and sometime unpleasant experience. But it's different with Dr. Heller. A warm blanket for our boy, dr heller worked fast and it was not unpleasant for our boy. Dr. John Heller is a compassionate, skilled, and efficient professional. His "mobile" services brought him right to our home. It was a Godsend for us and our beloved 16 year old dog "Rusty" whos health was failing rapidly. Doing this at home kept Rusty calm (not alarmed or anxious). My dog Sissy had eaten something at a party we had or maybe someone fed her something her stomach couldn't handle and she wouldn't stop throwing up. She was a rescue dog and was terrified of the vets office so I called Dr. Heller and he was able to come by the same day. He was kind and competent. Sissy was dehydrated so he filled her back with water so she wouldn't have to have an I.V. He gave her some medication and the next day she was all good.
