Just had dinner here and I absolutely loved it. We had spicy ramen, 3 rolls and the jalapeño popper appetizer. The playing was beautiful and the service was fast. Went here for dinner this evening. The salmon sashimi was fantastic, fresh and large pieces. We shared the Japanese ceviche which includes snapper, tuna and salmon in a ponzu sauce. The slaw was fresh and topped with a cream Sriracha sauce. They have a small but good wine list and various Asian beers to choose from. The service was attentive and helpful and the atmosphere is quiet and pretty. All in all a wonderful place for a quality sushi restaurant in Carrollton. I will definitely be back. read more

Sushi places nowadays are dime-a-dozen, but this place is a diamond in the rough. We luckily stumbled across this place one night a couple of months ago and have been back several times since then. We drive in from Denton to eat here. The garlic edamame is a must. As far as rolls go, get them all. We haven't had anything we don't like here and I am very picky when it comes to the rolls I will eat. The hubs had their Uni sushi and loved it. The service is always pleasurable. Very impressed. A brother of mine came into town and we decided to meet for dinner with the wife, so I jumped on Yelp and picked the first sushi place with 5 stars to look at and I found this place. The area was busy and it was in a strip mall so I figured it's a 50/50 shot. I remembered the reviews said it was good so we went for it. Well the reviews are not wrong. Everything was top notch. I know I probably shouldn't be so quick to judge after just one visit, but this is now my favorite sushi place I've been to so far! When I walked in the decor was nice, modest, and comfortable which complimented our incredibly sweet and helpful server. With how casual the atmosphere was, I was thoroughly surprised when the dishes came out with such great presentation! Seeing how beautifully all the food was prepared, I had to be dramatic and take a moment to just stare at everything. My date and I ordered the Flying Hawaiian, one of the signature dishes, which was my favorite! The mango salsa was the best thing ever and went so well with the ono sashimi and dressings!!!! We also got salmon and octopus sushi and the salmon was so fresh and soft. It left zero fishy aftertaste. None of the sushi did! I almost forgot to even touch my ginger all night because there was no need to cleanse my palate after each piece of sushi. For rolls we got the garlic albacore and baked salmon. The garlic albacore was something different for me and I ended up enjoying it a lot. The garlic chips on top really made the roll! As for the baked salmon, it was a perfect combination of flavors. Usually with baked salmon, the sauce or cream cheese will be way too overpowering for me and drown out the rest of the roll, but with this one it wasn't too heavy on anything and tasted really great! Have given 5 stars in past. But seems like they are getting their fish from a different place lately. The last time I was there the fish was so 'off' I didn't eat any of it. I mean like it smelled when it was put in front of me. Then yesterday I went for lunch, and the fish had definitely been left out. There was a dehydrated, leathery skin on the edges of the fish. I thought I might be over-thinking it, and it tasted ok. But was not well all last night. Such a shame, this used to be my favorite place. But the new chefs 'flavors' just aren't quite as good as with old ownership. read more

Wow where to start?.....I have been a loyal hon sushi goer for almost 2 years now. I would drive 45 minutes to come here just to have their sushi. As a California to Texas transplant, I know good sushi and until today I used to be able to get that at Hon. My first clue that things were different was a new menu, with some of our favorite items no longer available like the sushi burrito. The server was nice, with no issues there. Next was when our sushi, it was just plated plainly with no pizazz and flare like we've been accustomed to having. For those who used to go to Hon before ( The server confirmed new ownership and chefs) you know what I'm talking about. They used to plate your sushi with such beauty, passion and pride for their amazing quality fish. The fish seemed less fresh, and the taste wasn't what it used to be. Sad to say we will no longer be making the drive to here anymore. Sushi was mediocre and nothing special, the sushi inside now matches the appearance of the building outside. What was once a hidden gem of amazing quality sushi with incredible presentation is no more, Now we will have to search for another sushi restaurant that can meet the bar standard that the old Hon set so high. This is 1 of the sushi place that ever give free miso soup and complimentary fruits. The miso soup taste better than most miso soup in some Japanese restaurant I been to and the fruits was decorated so pretty and taste great. The owner are really thoughtful and service are friendly. I went this restaurant because of the good reviews on Yelp. I am embarrassed to say that by looking at the outside of the restaurant, I was a little worried. The strip mall didn't look like it had the most reliable tenants. However, the interiors of the restaurant are really nice. I ordered the Chirashi sushi bowl, which was great. I felt that the bowl was something I might get in Japan, because the stuff that was in it looked like something I did get in Japan although the bowl itself I got at Hon was a good amount smaller. But it was pretty good. My sister got Ramen that looked really good and the sushi rolls all looked really good. I would definitely love to come back, but I don't live super close. My waiter was nice and courteous. I recommend this restaurant. read more
