I always pass by this place so it was only a matter of time before I tried it. It was not as empty as I thought on a Wednesday night, good amount of people. They have a large variety of protein, vegetables, grains, etc. I literally could not decide so the staff was friendly and provided suggestions. I got the Sedona Lime with Chicken. The Cashew Lime Cream sauce is soooo good. I could have doused my whole meal in this. As expected, everything tastes good, fresh and healthy. It is definitely one of those places where you do not feel disgustingly full when you are done. However unlike other similar places, it fills you up! You tell me what's the priority of the day. As far as I can tell, it's all disposable bowls & plastic forks of farm-to-table non-GMO sugarless fare - they've created six signature specialties, or you can build your own bowl. I thought their "Soba Soba" was pretty cool, if maybe light on noodles & heavy with sesame vinaigrette. But now I know what to mention next time. With build-your-owns, don't get mad at them, you'll be your own worst enemy. You'll eventually find a dream combination. Note: you gotta watch them on the avocados for being ripe (not hard as a rock!). I feel like you need to walk in to order (dont order online) so you can monitor that you dont get the bottom of the barrel chicken either. For $15 it needs to be good. Very nice option near the Arboretum for fast and healthy food. I've stopped in a couple of times for quick food to go. Most recently, I ordered online and had my husband pick up the order. The online ordering went smoothly, and the order was ready when promised (however, WHY they need 34 minutes to assemble two bowls, I have no idea. I placed the order 10 minutes before they opened at 10:50, and was quoted a "ready time" of 11:34. So if you are in a hurry, I don't think I can in good faith recommend Honest Mary's. Their response time is way too slow for what they do). My husband and I both enjoyed our meals, but since they are an assembly place - ingredients are prepped well in advance and are a bit "tired" by the time they are assembled. I do appreciate that on "to go" orders the dressings come in side cups, so that they don't wilt leafy components during transit time. Golden Grain with no protein was $9. Nice combo of quinoa, arugula (a couple of rotten leaf pieces), goat cheese, beets, pecans, apples, and crunchy chickpeas. This was filling and very good, other than the couple of rotten arugula bits. Sedona lime with rice, spinach, sweet potatoes, pumpkin seeds and steak for $13. The cashew lime cream sauce for this bowl was super delicious. All and all, a nice quick service option for healthy food. read more

Enjoyed a delicious and very healthy lunch at Honest Mary's on Friday. Some may say the selections are at a higher price point for lunch, but one must pay to be healthier. Plus, I've paid a higher price for less healthier food and felt horrible soon thereafter. With my custom bowl, I created with a chicken base, I was full after eating, but comfortably so without subsequent feelings of guilt from overeating. Their meat is always disappointing and ruins my bowl ... i go here once a week and sometimes i try the steak and I'm sorry but for Texas their meat is absolutely terrible... i would eat here everyday if their meat was good and obviously they would have to charge much more but i got 1 bowl and a drink for 28 dollars. That price includes a 20% tip ... i would pay 35 if they just had good meat ... that the only place they are lacking and if they fix their meats, it would go on to be a competitor and eventually do an IPO ... but until that happens... The quality of the food is 4-5 stars, but the service, especially to-go, is shoddy. I live down the street so my husband and I order take out from here pretty regularly because if you're gonna bother to eat out at least it's not greasy and gross like a lot of other takeout options, but for the price I expect better and am often let down. It is literally a coin toss if we'll get what we paid for or not. And I've held off leaving this review because I generally don't want to be negative and I get people are busy or have off nights, but time and time again (especially the last few months) we'll order extra steak and get the normal helping or goat cheese and it's the teensiest spoonful, which again we generally let go of, but when it's a consistent issue it's rather irksome. The quality of the food is amazing, again, but the service is inconsistent and the portion size is diminishing and for what they charge it's fairly outrageous. I get budgets have to be made but you're giving less and less and charging the same, something has to give. Tonight I ordered a bowl with corn and all I got was "no corn" written on my order receipt (I assume to let me know they'd run out) but I feel like proper protocol would've dictated at least asking if there was another side I would've preferred to substitute rather than saying nothing when it was picked up. read more

I really want to like this place! I think the idea is great, but they need to make a few tweaks. I got the special, which I think was named a love cycling bowl. It would've been ok but the jerk sauce ruined it. I thought they were going to put a small dollop, but they put two large dollops. I like jerk seasoning but that was way too much! I didn't realize it until after I started eating. -1 Star. Next problem: they serve plastic utensils. We need to stop doing this. The lids are also plastic. Even if something is labeled "compostsble" that doesn't always mean it will be composted or that it's better for the environment. -1 Star. This was my first time eating here, i went during lunch and the store was pretty busy. I told the first staff member i encountered on the food line it was my first time here. They weren't very helpful with that being said. When i went down the line asking for them to add ingredients they didn't inform me what was standard and what was extra. Their sauces are light, yet packed with flavor. Every bowl I've gotten has tasted delicious and left me satisfied/full. For the price you're paying, it's decent. I could easily buy everything at HEB&make this at home for cheaper. However, you're paying for convenience. Thus, I think price is worth the quality of food. You wouldn't think those two flavors would work but they do. Great for vegetarians (like me), so many options. You know it's fresh because you can literally see the workers in the back slicing up fresh veggies to put in the front. Plus, all the workers are very friendly. Great concept with some pretty major issues that leave an overall meh impression. You walk up to the counter and have them build you a healthy bowl from their many ingredients in a Subway-style assembly line. You pick a base (grains or spring mix), add a protein (meat or tofu), add two sides such as blanched kale, lentils, or veggies, and two toppings such as a tablespoon of goat cheese, 1/5 a small avocado, or a few slices of apple, then choose a sauce. I have two main qualms: 1. they're very stingy with their substitution options which unnecessarily punishes those with food allergies or special diets. For example, I don't always want to eat a pile of grains for various reasons and my doctors have advised me to choose cooked greens over raw, so neither of their "bases" are ideal for me. This should be very easy to remedy, as they have blanched kale on their assembly line, which would be a perfect base for my bowl. But at some point a few months ago they started refusing to allow me to choose the cooked kale as my base. This is really stupid, as you're charging me over $14 for a bowl of lentils and with a little chicken, goat cheese and avocado. I'm not asking for some wildly (or even moderately) expensive ingredient in substitution - it's literally just plain steamed kale- but they "can't do that." 2. I have noticed the quality of the food plummet. The chicken is quite rubbery and has an unpleasant texture as if it were previously frozen. There is nothing great about this place. Some things are fine. Others are disappointing. TLDR: They're charging big bucks for a bowl of lentils and rice, can't be bothered to ensure the ingredients are fresh and delicious and won't let people make reasonable substitutions. read more

Wanted something for a light late lunch after an afternoon of running errands. I hopped on yelp to see what was newly opened in the area - cut to Honest Mary's. I decided to build my own bowl - steak, basmati like rice, caramelized cauliflower, brussel sprouts, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, and lime crema dressing (all for $12.50). While the steak was cooked well, the cauliflower wasn't as flavorful and the sprouts were not as crispy as I would've liked. My favorite brussel sprouts are probably from picnik. I am happy that there are so many healthy options popping up in the north Austin area. And I do think this is a great place for someone to go for that, but my favorite healthy dishes can be found at other places like picnik or flower child. read more

Went to Honest Mary's at noon on a Friday. Small line but moved fast. Tons of togo and online orders so the line really wasn't any issue. Lots of room to eat and just a great lunch option on the healthier side. I had the dear quinoa with tofu for a little over $11. Quite filling and fresh ingredients. Grilled tofu that was a bit flavorless but good option to soak up the dressing. The rest of the bowl had really good quinoa, lentils which were a little heavy, sweet potato, and cooked kale. All over the place with the concoction in terms of region, but surprisingly worked. Spicy peanut sauce gave it that Vietnamese flare as well. Would definitely be back here if on the northside of town. Parking is an issue but turnover is fast so just wait and a spot will open. Hopefully they can expand to the southside as the poke and chicken both looked fresh and worth a try as well. read more

Came here with my good friend since we've heard great things about this place. What they offer here is a build-your-own bowl! I couldn't have asked for a better time. My friends and I are whole food plant based vegans which means we fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes and do NOT eat animal products, oils, or processed foods. Many of the foods are made with small amounts of oil so they made us fresh bowls with forbidden rice, roasted sweet potatoes, roasted carrots, roasted Portobello which we added toppings to.
