I was drawn to the name like drawn butter! Such a cute name for a breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot! It's open an hour later than most of the pancake houses in Williamsburg which was perfect for my timing! It's in a little shopping g center on the corner. I was heartily greeted and led to a nice booth! I ordered the Classic Combo, eggs, crispy bacon, stone grounds grits and rye toast, plus a pancake on the side! The food was pretty tasty, especially the bacon and toast, the grits were an odd consistency - like fluffy (?)... but still tasted ok. The pancake was huge, yet a tad bland... that's what syrup is for AIR?? Prices were average but the service was great! I would give this a 0 star, but that's not an option. Was really looking forward to trying this high rated and recommended place in the area, as we (big family group) arrived - we were told it would be a 45 minutes to 1 hour wait, which was perfectly fine. My husband went in about 10 minutes later, just to ask if it would be better to seat smaller groups as we didn't need to have to sit together as long as we were near each other - hostess stated 3 booths were open, if we were able to sit down now. We went in to sit down, got situated, was handed menus, and was told our server would be awhile. TWO minutes after we started to review menu items - I believe it was the supervisor on duty who was quite vocal about why our group was seated first in the booths, she went to the hostess, asked the same question. The supervisor proceeded to show us the waitlist of people that were listed in front of us - which we did not ask to see - and stated they cannot serve us and we needed to go back outside and wait, as there were people ahead of us on the waitlist and they were to be seated first instead of us. She kept repeating it until we got up and started to leave. It wasn't worth fighting or arguing about - so we all got up and left. My daughter was upset because she wanted to eat together as a family, but now we couldn't. The ratings may be high and mighty on this place, but their organizational skills and general customer service is lacking greatly here. read more

This place was delicious. Can't really find this a lot in California. When I was in Virginia I definitely wanted to eat local and get the local food. When I'm on vacation I'm not tryna eat super healthy like I do at home. This place had all the stuff I could ask for at a southern type food place. A gem in Williamsburg! Great breakfast spot with a nice variety, ample parking, very friendly staff and reasonable prices. Lots of regulars and they are welcomed warmly. Every time I come down to this part of town I have to eat here it's a must. You're greeted as soon as you walk in they give off a homie environment. The service was amazing, a little over two minutes after I sat down I was helped now you talking about fast. Now on to the food, the presentation is amazing everything was cooked to perfection and you get nice size portions with that being said the prices are great for what you're getting. Dog friendly was such a plus, outside of course. The service was over the top friendly and so accommodating to us and our pets. French toast was amazing! My sister had the banana Peanut butter pancake Special which were delicious and filling. This place was exactly what we were looking for that we came back 3x in 7 days. Stopped in here for some lunch on Saturday with the family. We were pleasantly surprised. I split the club sandwich with my sister. We were happy we split it - because that is a LOT of sandwich! It was so good though! We got the cucumber salad as a side. It was basically homemade bread and butter cucumbers...but I'm not complaining. My niece ordered the ham and cheese sandwich and devoured it. She really liked it. My brother in law ordered the corned beef - and man I was a little jealous. It looked really good. Not sure what happened here. I've not been to HBs for a while, maybe two years, but todays breakfast was a miss. I paid $17.50 for a coffee and omelette (and a biscuit that was definitely not homemade). Given that there are no potatoes or hash browns, I found this to be too much even by Williamsburg standards. The omelet was smallish and average in terms of flavor. My dining partner had a similar reaction. Servers were friendly and attentive, though they seemed short staffed like many restaurants. I love supporting local businesses, but HBs and their other iteration Five Forks cafe, won't be on my list for a while. read more

About a 2-2.5: As many times we take a trip out to W-burg, we haven't had the chance to stop by Honey Butter's Kitchen; I was pretty excited to finally check this place out for an early breakfast. Honey Butters' menu offers both a breakfast and a lunch menu; note that the breakfast items can be ordered all day until closing! We ordered the Country Fried Steak with Sausage Gray (which came with two eggs, choice of toast, and a side of garlic fried potatoes; I was looking forward to the garlic fried potatoes, because I literally love anything with garlic, but to me, they just tasted like regular homefries with larger chunks of potatoes; they seemed like they were more steamed than 'fried', as they were super mushy and not at all crispy); Corn Cakes with Honey Butter (which came with two eggs and a choice of breakfast protein (bacon, sausage, or ham; we opted for the bacon); these were just okay); and, Homemade Biscuits & Sausage Gravy (which also came with two eggs and a choice of garlic fried potatoes, stone ground grits, or baked apples; we opted for the baked apples; the biscuits were dry and chalky-tasting, and we just weren't fans of the sausage gravy, as it was super bland). The service was a hit-or-miss, and I'm thinking it's due to trying to keep up with the influx of people who were dining in - the place was packed! Having heard good things about this place for years, we finally stopped in. I made the mistake of ordering coffee. It was Not Good. This is largely not their fault, as the water in this town is wretched; filtering it might help. I drink 12-14 cups of coffee a day, black. I put *three* creamers in this cup. My Darling Bride ordered hot tea, which was pretty standard Lipton. Sadly, they had put the bag into the pot before bringing it out, so it was already steeped too long by the time she got it. If they had brought the bag *and* the water, my sweetie could have steeped it to her liking. Or substituted one of the bags she carries with her. We ordered their Bread Basket appetizer- a nice collection of hush puppies, a couple of pieces of cornbread, a yeast roll and a biscuit. The yeast roll is like eating a hug- a delicious reminder of Sunday dinners from my childhood. The cornbread was excellent- slightly sweet, almost a nutty taste. I hate to admit it, but their hush puppies are better than mine. The biscuit was good, but suffered in comparison to the excellence of its neighbors. Had we gotten the appetizer and left, I'd be a happier man. My patty melt was supposed to be a beef patty with Swiss cheese and caramelized onions on rye bread. The onions came in two conditions: sautéed and burnt. I scraped half of them off the overcooked, grey patty, and managed to eat the bulk of the sandwich. I belatedly realized that he never asked how I wanted it cooked. This would not have been my selection. The fried garlic potatoes, which are deservedly famous around here, were delicious but very salty. My Bride's "Fancy Grilled Cheese" was, she tells me, good, but the four cheeses were also pretty salty; the addition of a fat slab of tomato saved the dish. Service was good. Two hot drinks, an appetizer, and two dinners came to $32.69 before tip. I've spent more for worse and less for better. Lots of my friends and colleagues recommend this restaurant highly, but I'm afraid that it was not really my cup of tea. read more

I was told to be sure to try this place but was not quite sure where it was. But I happened to swing by Publix and there it was! So sister-in-law and I decided to have a ladies lunch before grocery shopping. Great menu selection of every kind of comfort food you good possibly want. I ended up going for the Monte Cristo sandwich with tots. She got the soup and salad with a side of fried okra. Big servings! Everything made to perfection.
