It was my first time here today. I came around 10 am and they had plenty of donuts available. They had a selection of all the basics plus some others. They were so fresh and tasty! This is one of the best donut places I've been to...I would say best in Sacramento (I came from LA). The 2 young workers were really friendly and even gave a few bonus donut holes. My cousin wanted donuts this morning so we went wandering around until we found a sign that said DONUTS not far from Walgreens and when we entered it was a simple, old skool looking donut shop. I got one donut, and my cousin got two for $3.50. The donuts were good, nothing exceptional but what was really surprising was the graciousness of the owner who gave us five free donut holes, brought my nephew a free donut when she saw him sitting there without one and offered me another free donut when I went to purchase a water after finishing my first donut. Came in on a Wednesday morning around 10 a.m. There was one other person in front of me and at least three other parties after me. As soon as I came in I was greeted and they helped me right away. Since it was my first time here they gave me time to look at the menu. I had a small hot chocolate, ham and cheese croissant, cinnamon roll, and a glazed donut. Total was about $6-7. Even at this time the shop was well-stocked. Would come back again and try different items. What's nice is that they have a loyalty card if you spend 10 visits on coffee you can get a free coffee. Today my crappy day was turned a little brighter by the lady at this donut shop. I just wanted an eclair, or just a custard filled donut. The lady told me the price and said she had to add 50 cents because I was using my debit card, I agreed because I didn't have cash on me so, it came out to $2.15 she added a donut free of charge, I think because one donut being $2.15 was silly, either way it was super awesome and it made me happy. After trying a different donut place today, I'm kicking myself for not just driving to Honeys instead. They are friendly and warm, the way I need to be treated before my morning coffee. The place is cozy. The display case is has a nice assortment all the times I've come. The donuts are tasty, never oily or stale. Something has gone terribly wrong here. I don't get donuts often, I've gone here for years when I do, it's the only place I buy them. Their chocolate icing appeared to have the look of a maple icing at a distance, yet they called it "chocolate." In the past it's been a beautiful chocolate color. Actually it didn't even look like Maple, or regular glaze, it looked terrible and never should have been put out. Wow! How have I been living two minutes from this donut shop for nearly 7 years, and I've never been here? I've never liked donuts, but I get them occasionally for a weekend treat for the kids. We stopped in this wet Saturday morning, and even though it was busy, they were getting people in and out very quickly. They had a fantastic selection. A box of a dozen was a great price (worked out to about $0.75 each). They smelled so good in the car that it was difficult not to open it up right away! Since I'm not a donut fan, I didn't plan on eating any. That changed after about two minutes of having the box open, though. I tried the crumb, and it was light, fluffy, and delicious. Definitely not the "hurt your teeth" sweet like so many are. The kids devoured theirs in seconds, and all said they were the best they've ever had. Come early! Every time I visit Elk Grove, I always get the glazed donuts. Hands down best raised glazed donuts I've ever eaten in my life. They're huge, cheap, soft, fluffly, and not too sweet. You have to get there in the morning or everything's gone, but you can't go wrong coming here.
