Curry chicken and an egg roll.
    John M.

I stopped here for takeout simply because I was in the same shopping center. Pulling up, this restaurant is certainly not attractive or welcoming in any kind of way. Walking into Hong Fu, the ambiance might be even worse. They have the plastic portion covering the front counter and I stood in front of the plastic portion as the lady behind the counter was on the phone. There was no acknowledgment of me as she finished the phone conversation. When she finished, she was helpful enough. I ordered a large curry chicken (made as hot as possible), shrimp lo mein, and two egg rolls. The order came to just under twenty-eight dollars. I was told my order would be ready in about fifteen minutes and my food was ready in about the promised time. When I got home, we tore into the food. The egg rolls were terrible. My curry chicken was mediocre and calling it mediocre is an extreme act of kindness. It was bland and the taste was overall one dimensional. The accompanying rice was overcooked. I was between giving it two or three stars and I usual go up, but this time I will rate down because after you sign your credit card slip, they have you throw it in a giant box with countless other credit card slips. While there are safety and security measures in place, this is still not a good idea. Overall, I am giving them two stars.

In my never ending quest to find the ultimate Honey Chicken meal, I stopped by the restaurant on Saturday, January 7, 2023. I've passed this location numerous times without giving a second thought about stopping by as my go-to Chinese establishment is only a few miles drive from this spot. The restaurant is located near the cities of Edgewood and Belle Isle on South Orange Avenue in the Edgewood Isle Shopping Plaza. There are three four-top tables available inside and two two-top tables outside. Even though there is seating, the set-up of the interior is more conducive to take-out. Specifically, the interior appears disheveled and disorganized with boxes and other equipment marring any enjoyment you might have eating your meal inside the restaurant. Obviously, I opted for their Honey Chicken Lunch Combination Meal which came with fried rice and a vegetable egg roll. The egg roll and fried rice were good but, the star of the show was the honey chicken. The honey chicken pieces were tender with a light and greaseless breading and a nice sweet crunch. Delicious and tasty. The fact the meal only costs $8.79 is another reason I would stop by in the future...great bang for your buck.

    22. Hot and Sour Soup but extra spicy

I always drive by this place when I go to work and it peaked my curiosity. The location is interesting because it's in a small building in a parking lot. Definitely has your hole in the wall restaurant vibes. I recommend doing take out only because the dining area is not much. I ordered my food via phone and good thing I did because when I went to go pick up, there was a lot of people coming in and out of the restaurant. I got their house dumpling and their hot and sour soup (extra spicy). The house dumpling is a must get! Very juicy and plump. The dumpling skin had a great texture as well. The hot and sour soup was also delicious. This small restaurant is run by a family and they provided me with good service. I will definitely stop by here again. Next time I'll try the house dumplings steamed.

A ROACH in my sweet and sour sauce
    Christina C.

I ordered food from Hong Fu and experienced my worst nightmare! I work at the hospital near by and decided to grab something for my 12 hour shift.I contacted the restaurant and informed them that there was a roach in my sweet and sour sauce! They told me I would not receive any refunds if I did not return the food.....Lack of sympathy, inconsiderate and beyond disgusting.ZOOM in I know you see that roach marinating!

    Metal in food

Found a piece of metal in our beef and vegetables. Chicken was also too chewy. Would not eat there again.

The staff kindly packed up our leftovers for us, but when I got home and opened the bag, I realized some of the untouched dishes weren't included. It was a bit of a bummer since we were looking forward to enjoying them later. Even with that hiccup, the food was outstanding and definitely worth the visit. If you're a dim sum lover, this place deserves a spot on your list!

It's clean, if not a little outdated. There are huge shelves around the windows with plants, art, and lights. You can see there's been a lot of water damage to the shelves. The menu has a nice selection. We ordered the lobster platter, scallops, red snapper, and the sea bass. The sea bass was the best! The red snapper was a close second. We ordered it Szechwan style. The lobster was a strong third. It wasn't prepared in a way that I'm used to, or how I expected it to be, but it was good. My friend said it was the best lobster he'd ever had. The scallops were in last place. They were pretty tasteless. Some of them were "dirty"; you know when you don't clean your seafood really well and get some grit in your teeth when eating it... So, I wouldn't order those again. We also had a nice sake, white wine, and whiskey. The service was a little slow- not very attentive, but they were very nice. The bill came to a little over $300 for the four of us. The only leftovers was the lobster. It was quite a large amount. Pretty reasonably priced menu. Definitely will cure your seafood cravings.

Ordered Jumbo Shrimp Pan Fried Noodle here $16.95 takeout. While waiting for the food. I was asking the gal behind the cash register if they have been busy lately with the Chinese BBQ and she stated this past weekend they were really busy. I then told her it's because Kai Kai owners left Kai Kai and sold it maybe to another owner but they no longer run Kai Kai. So as the conversation passes she told me - The Crispy pork they cook there is NOT ROASTED but FRIED. It was brought up because i was telling her a few people have said kai kai fell off as far as taste in the bbq / meats. So then I said yes the skin part is not crispy like how you guys do it. So she mentioned she wondered why they have been busy with Chinese BBQ meats as of lately. I ordered the $4.95 boba smoothie (mango) as a refresher because it is hot outside - For the price it is not bad I think they use mango puree as the base. The dishes here are delicious. This is why I keep coming back.

These legends welcomed our whole crew with zero wait like it was just another Tuesday--talk about VIP service. Now let's talk food. First up, the tofu and veggie stir-fry--a glorious mix of crispy tofu cubes with perfectly sautéed broccoli, carrots, and bok choy in a savory brown sauce that hugged every bite like a warm hug from a Chinese grandma. The beef with broccoli? Tender, flavorful, and bathed in rich umami goodness. Honestly, if I could bottle that sauce, I'd put it on everything--maybe even my cereal (don't judge). The Honey Walnut Shrimp was love at first crunch. Perfectly crispy shrimp in a creamy, sweet glaze topped with candied walnuts and nestled on a bed of fresh steamed broccoli. This dish was the Beyoncé of the table--everyone wanted a piece. Those crispy, golden Shrimp Ball Fritters? Imagine a crunchy sea urchin made of joy. Light, airy, and addictive--basically the potato chip of appetizers. The pan-fried dumplings were thick, juicy, and had the perfect crispy sear. No sad, soggy dumplings here. Then came the crispy duck--dark, rich, and bursting with deep roasted flavor. It had that satisfying crunch you want, and the meat melted in your mouth. A must for meat lovers. But the real MVP? Those soup dumplings. Steamy little flavor bombs that explode in your mouth like a culinary fireworks show. Served in their own mini tins like royalty--juicy, delicate, and impossible to eat just one. The table went silent the second they landed. That's how you know it's real. With quick service, huge portions, and a menu that hits every craving from noodles to dumplings to sizzling plates of joy, Peter's Kitchen China Bistro was the unexpected gem we didn't know we needed. Cozy, authentic, and efficient--this place made our group dinner easy, delicious, and downright memorable.
