Hongs is the best Chinese food in the South Bay by far. All the varieties of food we have chosen over the years is perfectly made. The Seseme Chicken is fantastic and the Honey Walnut Prawns, the Cashew Chicken, the soups, the best pot stickers- never dry or chewy, but cooked twice in a special way. The chicken chow mein is a household late night favourite- chicken pieces are cooked, not boiled, everything has flavor, and the rice combos are great. Dont forget the green onion pancake, hard to get a traditional style one that tastes right. The owners are locals, always have wonderful staff and a great set of chefs. Huge portions! I'll come here a number of times now and I've always had good food and good service. The atmosphere is relaxed and elegant and on a nice day I like sitting outside on the patio. Service on the patio can be a little scattered because they can't see you from inside. I've had very good noodle dishes here. I had a really good eggplant dish here the last time I was there. I had a great family-style meal at Hong's Gourmet and enjoyed everyting we ordered. The house special pineapple fried rice had lots of flavor and had plenty of ingredients. We had our wedding reception here recently, and it was everything we had hoped for and more. The owners of the business, Sally and Victor, were on top of everything with the planning and organizing for the event. They were clear on expectations, fast with their responses, and extremely accommodating for what we wanted for our wedding reception. The food choice was excellent, rivaling - if not better than some of the more popular chinese banquet style restaurants in the Bay Area. The amount of food provided and the quality was amazing. My wife's side of the family, who never experienced this style of meal, was thoroughly impressed. My side of the family, who are used this style, enjoyed it very much. Shout out to all the staff that helped with the event - they were very professional and considerate to all of our request. We will be coming back here to eat every time we are in the area. I enjoyed a group lunch at Hong's a few days ago. A little embarrassed to say it's my first visit in spite of living so close in this area for decades. Always assumed the food may not be authentic due to the location. Glad to be proven wrong. Parking was easy behind the restaurant, dining room offers nice ambiance, tasteful décor, quite and spacious. We ordered the set lunch menu for 10 people. All of us agreed that the main dishes were delicious and served in generous portions. Reviews were however a little mixed on the appetizers. Service throughout the lunch was friendly, attentive and pleasant. Individually served were a bowl of hot and sour soup although steaming hot but too thick with corn starch and overly sweet without the right balance of flavor . Chicken salad was just ok, primarily lettuce with sliced chicken fingers. The vegetarian egg roll was fresh and crispy, best of the three. The main dishes were Honey walnut prawns, black pepper fish fillets, sweet sour pork, house Basil beef, braised tofu and Kung Pao chicken. Every dish was well cooked with distinct flavor and fresh ingredients. A large bowl of steamed rice was also perfectly cooked and generous served. Our favorite were the tofu and the basil beef. We couldn't finish all the food, several of us brought home leftovers. We were quite happy with the experience, enjoyed the excellent food service, value and ambiance. We had a concerning experience with the food quality and, more importantly, our health after ordering from this place. My husband and I both developed severe blisters on our tongues after eating the food from this place. My tongue is also swollen and painful, and it has been two days with the symptoms still continuing. I may need to see a doctor if it does not improve. The fact that both of us experienced these symptoms after eating this food is extremely concerning to us. We ordered delivery and were already disappointed with the food quality. The food contained noticeably undercooked/raw vegetables (broccoli, mushrooms), and the dishes overall were extremely oily and lacked flavor. Everything tasted more like fast food than a freshly prepared meal. Most of the food had to be thrown away. We would not recommend this place based on our experience and hope the restaurant takes food preparation and safety more seriously. read more

We came here as there wasn't many options open in downtown Saratoga that weren't "high end" dining options. The service was okay, the server never brought a drink that we ordered, which we only realized at the end, but we were not charged for it. Other than that the server was friendly. There wasn't many people there when we went and the food came out relatively quick. It was OK, not too flavorful, and the rice had clumps of dry rice in it. Everything else was once again just OK. I have passed by this restaurant many times on Big Basin Way but today is the first time there. I was there celebrating my newest granddaughter's first birthday. Out of 9 dishes, I really liked 7 of them. The two I did not like were walnut prawns and spicy basil beef, only because I don't like prawns and spicy food. I had an enjoyable lunch here yesterday with a friend. The interior decor is pleasing and feels subtly upscale. The service is prompt, attentive and efficient. The food is very good with plus-sized portions. The prices seem a little higher than normal than I expected (but this is in the Saratoga Village, so you are paying for the location). It was about $30 per person including tax and tip, ordering one dish per person. We had Mongolian Beef ($23.95), which was delicious. The beef was perfectly done with a wonderful sauce. It's with a heavy heart that I write this review. We have been going to Hong s for a couple years now and it was always reliably good. But the last 2 times it has disappointed. We get the potstickers and the Ming s beef. I come from Chicago where the Chinese food is top notch. I finally found a place that rivaled that quality. Not anymore. I'm thinking a new owner or something that has bastardized the meat and flavors so I can not order again from Hongs. The meat was tough. The potstickers were doughy and flavorless. I ordered delivery of beef fried rice, wok fried green beans, house special emerald chili chicken and potstickers. Potstickers are standard good potstickers. I enjoyed the fried rice because it had good flavor and there was a generous amount of beef. The emerald chili chicken was delicious, slightly spicy and a huge portion. The photo of the chicken in its box doesn't do it justice. I've been a regular at Hongs for quite a few years now. Hongs is one of those classic restaurants that endures. The funny part is it doesn't look like those classic restaurants with bright red and gold decor. The interior is so tastefully decorated it's positively Zen. The service has always been and today was no exception superb. I was curious if today's inflation had made much impact on the menu. The dinner menu clearly showed some noticeable increases, some high enough that I probably wouldn't order it. The dinner menu came with enough sides that it would clearly be too much food for me. The lunch menu, someone had fought to keep prices close to $20. I ordered the Szechuan chicken from the lunch menu. The quantities were pretty impressive. I was full halfway through the meal but I knew I had a long day ahead and just ate the whole thing. The sauce was a blend of hot and sweet, it was a little too sweet for me, but then I eat so little sugar everything tastes really sweet to me. I was a little surprised that the chili sauce was barely hotter than the Szechuan chicken and so it kind of made the dish more oily instead of hotter. The fried rice was absolutely astounding. There seemed to be no oil anywhere. Very healthy. Sigh, but not very classic. Overall I thought the lunch menu was really reasonably priced given the amount of food. For me, eating at Hong's is a chance to eat restaurant staples that I ate as a kid. Although, I would chose to interpret my memories differently (fried rice needs to be oily!) I hosted my wedding rehearsal dinner at Hong's Gourmet and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! The prices were reasonable, the food was so incredible, and they were very easy to work with. My guests were raving to me about how delicious the food was--the only thing I regret was not taking more food to go with me! We hosted a 50+ person company Chinese New Year event here and it was absolutely flawless. We reserved half of the restaurant and we were undisturbed. Sally (the owner) was incredibly professional, organized, and attentive -- she understood everything immediately and made the entire planning process seamless. The service throughout the night was smooth, flexible, and very well-coordinated. The food was phenomenal, especially the seafood. The Cantonese lobster was outstanding, and the Peking duck was extremely authentic -- truly some of the best I had in the Bay Area. It was a very very nice, warm, beautiful and wonderful party. Every guest enjoyed the food, service and environment very much! They are so happy and had a memorable experience!! I stated to work with Sally about 2 months ago for the luncheo. She was so kind and considerate to me every time when I talked to her by phone or text or in person. This made me so comfortable to be in the restaurant just like a sweet home. She answered all my questions and had the best solutions for all my requests. It was amazing experience to work with Sally! I would like to comment that she is no doubt one of the best restaurant managers in the Bay Area. The benefit of eating in-house is that you get told look over the whole menu and not just order the usual dishes. We made sure we ordered different dishes and we were very pleased with that decision. Been years since last we were there, but the decor looked like anything but Asian. One great thing was I had something different in mind for Mother's Day and I was able to get a reservation at short notice. I felt the prices were a bit high, but what isn't in Silicon Valley.
