I've visited Danbi several times since they opened, and the food has generally been good. It used to be one of my favorite places in downtown Los Gatos. Last Sunday, my party arrived at 7:10 PM. The server immediately emphasized that the last order would be taken at 7:30 PM. Since everyone in our group had already arrived, I assured the server that we would be able to place our order on time. However, instead of seating us, the server informed us that we would need to finish our meal and leave by 8:00 PM. This was surprising and disappointing, especially given that the restaurant's advertised closing time is 9:00 PM. The interaction made us feel unwelcome, and rather than rush through dinner, we decided to leave at 7:10 PM and dine elsewhere. I understand that restaurants may have operational constraints, but being told that we would need to finish our meal within 50 minutes before we were even seated was very unpleasant. Appalling, hostile service. Avoid like the plague. I have never experienced such an appallingly poor service like here tonight. We checked Google and saw they close at 9 PM. Walking in at 8:10 PM, we were immediately rushed and told we had five minutes to order because the kitchen was closing. After a 30-minute wait, our food finally arrived at 8:40 PM, along with the forgotten appetizer we had to track down. Before I could even pick up my chopsticks, the waiter dropped the bill and demanded immediate payment because "the kitchen was closed". I paid and tipped, which in hindsight was a mistake. At 8:58 PM, he silently dropped empty takeaway boxes on our table as a passive-aggressive hint. Then, at just a few minutes past 9 PM, he came back and literally told us to get out. I was in the middle of eating a sizzling hot pot that was burning my tongue, and this 20-something kid with absolutely zero training and poor customer service skills started arguing with and scolding me when I pointed out how ridiculous it was to rush us after making us wait 30 minutes for the food. I had to remind him that I was the customer and that he probably should not talk to any of his customers like this. They were just cleaning up and could have easily given us five minutes to finish. When we were leaving, he also told us to "have a great evening" in a snarky condescending way. To top it off, the food is completely mediocre and overpriced. Service this toxic guarantees they won't be in business long and I certainly do hope they will be replaced with something better. She's a sriracha and hot Cheetos are spicy type of girly. With that being said- their "spicy" tastes like nothing. My friend highly enjoyed it, I was a little disappointed. I was expecting at least a tiiiiiiiny kick to where I could at least be like "okay, I can taste a little hint of it". I didn't get that. But like a lot of restaurants, it's most likely adjusted to the customer demographic of that area. Flavor profile for the dishes itself was pretty good. Chicken had a nice batter, meat was not dry- sauce was sweet and the pieces were a little smaller than other Korean fried chickens I've had. 3/5 Beef soft tofu soup - medium spicy, but again, spicy was nonexistent. We tried Danbi, a relatively new Korean restaurant in downtown Los Gatos, for lunch today. We were immediately seated, but then did not receive service for the longest time. We watched as a table that was seated after us got attended to before us, which was frustrating. Once we finally ordered, it took a long time to be served. At other Korean restaurants we've been to, they serve the banchan (small side dishes) immediately, but at this restaurant no food was served until our first dish arrived. The food was very tasty, although the portions were just average. Given the poor service, I planned on tipping appropriately, but I was surprised to see that they already added a 20% tip for our party of 5. I've seen this done for larger parties, but not for a party our size. Overall, while the food was good, the experience at Danbi was dampened by the service. read more

We didn't know what to expect for when we stumbled upon Danbi. Los Gatos isn't a city normally known for its Korean cuisine but We got the galbi tang and the dwen jang jjigae and both were yummy and comforting on a cold winter day. I've never had Dwen jang jjigae before and at first thought it would be similar to tofu soil but it was more like a vegetable soup with a few pieces of firm tofu thrown in, as well as udon noodles (my Korean friend told me the noodles aren't usually traditionally in there but my kids loved this addition). I was a fan and would get this next time! You can't adjust the spice level with this soup but my Korean friend who ordered for me asked the waitress to leave out the red pepper to make it less spicy and I'd do this next time as well as my kids were able to eat it. Galbi tang was good as well but the portion size felt a bit small and the soup only came with 2-3 pieces of short rib. I actually preferred the dwen jang jjigae to this even though I normally love galbi tang. read more

We ordered the spicy fried chicken, budae jjigae (army stew), and osam bulgogi (octopus and pork stir fry). Everything was delicious and hit the spot on a rainy fall night. I'm not drinking right now, but the dishes would've paired perfectly with a bottle of soju. They also had a nice selection of local Asian craft beers and other drinks that I'll check out next time. This is our second visit to Danbi. Our first visit was a month ago and we had a great experience. This time, my wife had the Beef Hot Stone Pot ($21.95) which was very tasty. I asked for options that was low in carbs and it was recommended to bet a Beef Bi Bim Bop with tofu substituting for rice ($19.95). This was very good and low in carbs. I'm glad that some creativity was at hand to modify the normal menu for a guest's needs. Note that you can't do this trick on the Hot Stone Pot as we were told that the rice is necessary to prevent the food from burning on the stone pot. The stone pot is a hot dish and the Bi Bim Bop was served in a cold dish (but the beef and tofu were hot). Naturally there were all the included yummy (all you can eat) side dishes. At first the service was slow to even get us some water, even after my wife requested it. After she got the attention of the manager, the service was very good. read more

Is Danbi my fave local Korean restaurant? Maybe it Can Be? I have other faves in Cupertino and San Jose that are different concepts but this one's a Dandy. Everything we've had here has been great so Danbi is hardly a Plan B. In fact is I'd say the food here is Outstandy. I kinda crave Danbi like Candy. My best loved dishes are the Vegetable Pancake and the Bi Bim Bap with tofu. My son loves the Korean Short Ribs, the Soft Tofu Soups and the Korean Fried Chicken. My wife is more focused on all the wonderful side dishes including their amazing Kimchi. If I get too hot from the spicy I can Fan Me. The first time we ordered my wife routed it to the N 1st location by mistake so that left me Cranky. We used to go to the prior restaurant in this space so we don't want to lose Danbi too - that would be a Calamity. Great place. We wish Danbi great resilience and Longevity! read more

Danbi is a decently authentic Korean restaurant in downtown Los Gatos. The location is great as it's peaceful and overlooks the park. The restaurant itself is nice and clean. The service is friendly and quick. They acknowledged the spicy food wasn't very spicy at all. You can order here without any "dragon ball" concerns. Anyway the food was good. We got the KFC (Korean fried chicken) with the soy glaze which was delicious. The meat was perfectly tender and flavorful. It was fried but not overly breaded. The Mandu tofu soup was good. We ordered medium and it was really really mild. There were plenty of ingredients including the beef, tofu and dumplings. The banchan was fine. But I wouldn't say it was special or outstanding compared to other good Korean places, but it was solid. For what you get, it's on the pricey side. Our delightful dining experience began with a delicious tea (not sure what kind, but wish I knew). Husband got bulgogi rice and I ordered seafood ramen. Both were scrumptious, and we would get them again. Veggies were spectacular, and the zucchini was the best I've ever had in my life! The kimchi and radish were also packing lots of flavor, while offering a crunch that contrasted with the softness of the noodles. Portions were good and we felt the menu offered a variety of dishes. My dish was a little spicy, but not as spicy as the medium salsa at Trader Joe's for reference. Atmosphere was a little underwhelming, though it was very calm. This was quite mediocre to be honest. It was an exact clone of the seafood tofu stew from SGD Tofu House in Santa Clara (which has gone downhill fast over the years). It's basically tofu stew out of a kit, that's the vibe I get. 2 small clams, some cubes of squid, two small salted shrimp (not even proper prawns). At least SGD gives you purple rice, this place was just plain white rice. Banchan was nothing to write home about. They need to ditch the soft tofu stew premade kits and do a facelift if they are to survive in this Los Gatos area. My friend ordered the hot stone bowl rice and was similarly not impressed. However when it comes to food, we were sorely disappointed and would go back to our old haunts. The fried rice was an actual "fried" rice with no flavor and lacked salt. The bibimbap was okay and the mackerel was the only thing that was liked by my kid and husband. It was served on bed of badly chopped cabbage which didn't look very appealing. I have been to their OG location in San Jose many times and rated it 5. I was surprised to see that they had a new location in downtown LG. We do need a Korean place and a good one at that. Danbi fits the bill. As expected, the food was great. Everything we ordered was delish. Service was great, the owner was super nice. They are not fully set up yet...they don't have permanent signage or their beer/wine license yet so don't be surprised when you go in. Restaurant is spacious, clean and modern largely benefited from the last restaurant that was there. I was pleased to see the banchon were quite on point, which is always one of the first things to check. They are spicy pork was very good. What brought the restaurant down to three stars was the jap chae was a little too greasy and lacked flavor. And the meat jun also was a little too eggy and cut of meat was a little tough. I recently visited with my mom, who is visiting from Korea, and she also really enjoyed her meal. They have many options and the flavors were authentic and delicious. We ordered the spicy pork hot stone pot, yookgaejang and dukmandu gook dupling soup. All very tasty! It's wonderful to see diverse food options in Los Gatos.
