The Horseshoe is unapologetically unfancy. I'm cool with that. Happy hour with a selection of canned American beers for $2? Sweet. For $3 you get to upgrade to their fancy selection. Awesome! The menu is loaded with cheap eats that normally you wouldn't want to deal with - but after a few drinks, they'll save your life. Tater tots, mini corn dogs and cheap pizza - you won't Jamie Oliver in this kitchen. My friend lives by there and enjoys the bar. So I met him and a couple friends and we wanted to play pool. My friend was playing a guy that was by himself. Played two games and this guy won the first. Then at the 8 ball of the last game came and got in my friends space and he asked him to not do it and this guy who we later found out was a "regular" told him he could do whatever the fuck he wanted. The ID checker came and told my friend to leave and didn't even care to know what happened. Being in the hospitality industry, I asked why both of them didn't get asked to leave and he said, "because that guys a regular and I'm not kicking him out." I just picked-up my debit card which I left on Saturday night by mistake. My girlfriend and I each had 4 beers at 3 bucks each. We don't drink hard alcohol, so no shots either. The bill for 8 beers was 60 bucks plus a 20% gratuity added. The bartender's explanation was "we'll you shouldn't have left your card here". He was also unable to provide me with an itemized receipt. by far one of my favorite bars. most of the time the people are chill and very friendly. every once in a while you get some dude who thinks it's his job to tell you that you'd look so pretty if you'd just take off your hat and glasses. Delicious food- especially the tater tots and pizza! The staff is INCREDIBLE. Mel, the owner, is simply awesome and a wonderful business owner. It has been my go to neighborhood bar for the past 3 years, and I will be so sad to move away from it next month! in 2016, they went above and beyond to host my husband and I's wedding after party. Great local neighborhood bar. I like the laid back vibe inside with the couches, chairs and boothes. There is a pool table and a number of tvs for the sports fan. I just noticed the back patio which is nice for some fresh air, or the occasional smoke. The bar top is pretty cool which is designed with about a million dice. What a dump..... I love it. The place looks (and sometimes smells) the part of a proper dive, but if you pay attention, you'll notice a modern rockabilly/hipster/punk/modern/vintage motif. It's a dive bar that deep down you know isn't really quite a dive because you never feel unsafe around the other patrons. Personally I only know this because I've been there 7,000 times. You might also come to similar conclusions about the ambiance if you can avoid blacking out after two whiskey cokes in which the amount of coca cola they ACTUALLY put in could best be described as an attempt to ADD slight color to your beverage and SUBTRACT memories from your brain. read more

The Horsehoe Lounge is a nice little place to enjoy cocktails and friends in a low-key setting. They have oversized red booths lining the dark wall that is filled with sparkles and each booth has its own vintage chandelier-esque fixture hanging above. In the middle of the lounge, one can actually lounge on the couches that form a u-shape. These couches also face a big screen t.v., which was showing the Nuggets game- so one is def. able to keep up on their sports games while here. There's a pool table as well as some old-school video games in the corner by the bar. The bartenders seemed friendly, and the place had a good ambiance all around. I didn't try any of the food, but I smelled if from afar and it smelled delicious! It's on my to-do list to try their pizza next time i'm there for sure!! read more

The staff here are great people. The owner Mel however is a piece of s**t! She accused my husband of having sex with a guy in the bathroom or doing illegal drugs. Which both are entirely false! We met a guy that was ex military and was having a hard time. We have kids that are military so we are very compassionate toward people. We knew a person that could possibly of had his shadow box with all his military stuff in it. And low and behold we knew the guy that had it! The military guy thought for some reason my husband was in the military in special ops and wanted to talk to him in private. So they went to the bathroom which is a one person bathroom to talk. It's a huge bathroom and they went in to talk privately and were only in there for about a minute. And they came out and the owner was sitting outside of the bathroom waiting for them and started accusing them of doing two things, which are illegal, her words not ours. She grabbed the drink out of my husband's hand and told him to get out! All the while I was sitting on the patio! My husband tried to explain and she would not listen. She is horribly rude! This is the second time she has been an absolute asshat to my husband! If two girls went to use the bathroom together there would be no problem at all! I really can't believe how these guys were treated! And the really sad part we know the guy that had his shadow box in Kansas but now we don't have his info to get it to him! Don't go to this place! Please, what's not to love about Big Buck Hunter, doubles so strong they'll still make you cringe when you're four in, and a dice-covered bartop to stare at while your friends laugh at you because you got too drunk too quick. Seriously, doubles are not necessary. They have yahtzee tucked away behind the bar so you can play whenever you please. They also have a variety of other games, Scrabble included, for your pleasure. If you want rude bartenders and some extra charges on your credit card then go on in. I love this place! I've been there twice, but will be back there often. The bar looks a lot different than most places in town. They have really retro furniture and lamps. We plotted to steal a really cool red and white lamp, but there was no way I was getting that out of there. They have black walls with glitter in them, which I totally adored. Oh, and the bar top is covered in dice. There is a kinda creepy chair hanging out in the ladies room.... There isn't usually a ton of staff working, but the bartenders are super cool and fun. The drinks are relatively cheap and strong. They have lots of microbrew beers too. And the food- tater tots! We scored mini corn dogs, tots, 4 drinks, and two shots for $23. Horseshoe might be my favorite bar in Denver! It's at least going to be the first place I think of to meet up with friends in the area. Did you know mint juleps were tasty? I didn't know mint juleps were tasty. Mint juleps are tasty! At the Horseshoe Loung they make the perfect blend. We stopped in during the Kentucky Derby and they were serving $3 mint juleps--best I've ever had (and first time I ever thought they were good!). The bartender was a lot of fun. I was visiting the bar as part of the Denver City Solve Urban Race. We had become accustomed to having a drink at each bar we stopped, but we stayed for THREE because we had such a good time. I like this bar. I'll definitely be back. It's in the neighborhood, next to Jonesy's (so obviously basking in the glow of amazing macaroni and cheese), spacious, cool bar-top made of dice, legitimately retro-funky, comfortable. The only reason this isn't a 5 star is that the music was soooo loud inside, we had to move outside to the patio in order to talk, and actually hear each other...but bonus...they have a small patio! We would have asked them to make the music a touch lower, but I'm usually the one enlisted to make such requests, and I had already made a gross remark to a bartender/id-checker guy, so I thought my rogue mouth drew enough attention for one night.
