Deferring to my sister saying the hookah was excellent. Service equally as attentive. Many visits to the table and very swift in changing the coals. Sadly, we read too many reviews warning us about the watered down drinks and of tasting alcohol, so we avoided any serious mixers. The tea was pretty good, not great. What was really disappointing was the wonderful looking selections on the menu, but our group voting not to eat here. Again, too many negative reviews. Two of us stuck to a couple appetizers. This spot is a vibe for sure and for certain! From the attentiveness of the servers and hostess, the quick preparation of the food and the warmth of the place, I really enjoyed myself. And by the way when I say warmth I mean it in a literal sense because it was chilly outside and that heat was felt as soon as we walked in. Speaking of walking in, we arrived at about 12am and as soon as we opened the door, the bouncer/security guy ran over to the door to check us out. There must have been some kind of miscommunication (I think he wanted to make sure we were grown lol). Once he found that we were, we were allowed to enter and a hostess took us to our table. It was so nice, warm and cozy. We looked at the menus and placed our orders. While there were options for food, beverages, snacks and more, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had hot tea on the menu and not the regular type - you know Celestial Seasonings, Lipton and the likes but they had actual natural tea with the leaves and stuff. I chose the Egyptian tea and it was so so good. And the antique style tea kettle was a nice touch in addition to how hot it stayed throughout the night. From what I hear and observed, it went great with the hookah as well. The food order came out really quickly (an order of lamb chops which came with rice and some type of bread, French fries and salad). All I can say is it was definitely worth the price. Like for real for real, it tasted so delicious and was perfectly perfectly seasoned. I took my order to go and even though I had a taste of my friends while we were there I must add that as I eat my reheated to go plate right now, it is absolutely delicious. Who would've thought, seen, or known that this low-key comfy-cozy spot had so much to offer. I think the best thing about it though, was the service. They really kept checking on us as if we were celebrities in a high-end restaurant. We were treated very very well and I'm pretty sure that this is the best service I've ever received at any restaurant ever. And it wasn't just the checking on us, it was the attentiveness to our table set up and making sure everything was as it should be. And it was an all hands on deck thing, meaning everyone who worked at the establishment did everything to make sure we were good. It's a really great place to chat, catch up, and be low-key all while listening to really great music because they were playing some nice tunes. Came on a Tuesday afternoon, the waitress, Dina, didn't attend to me for like 20 minutes. I had a hookah and coffee, to do some work. They both were terrible and overpriced. The most astonishing part about this is that no one was there but after two hours Dina said I either have to order a new head or leave. The place was quite literally empty on a tuesday afternoon. So I stumbled upon this hoolounge on a whim. Was in the area having dinner with friends and we decided that we wanted to go do some hookah. A quick yelp search led us here and I am so happy if did ! From the moment we entered, everyone was so nice and friendly. The customer service is on point for sure. When we wanted to switch up the music, they handed us the iPad so that we could play our favorite jams. My friends and I got the vanilla mint hookah. It pulled very nicely and the coals lasted a long time. My favorite thing about this spot was the lollipop hookah tips. I thought that was so cute and I had never seen them before. We ended up staying so long that we got hungry again. We ordered the wing sampler which was so good. It has something for everyone, but my favorite was the garlic parmesan wings. So if you're planning on stopping by just know that the food is just as good as the hookah. As for drinks, we got one of the mojito pitchers. It was good, but not very strong. However, the staff treated us to a few rounds of shots so we were definitely lit ! I'm definitely going to be back, and this may be my new spot for hookah. So I've been here 2-3 times before and had a good experience, but this last time I had a horrible experience that I'm embarrassed about. I arrived with 5 others and we were asked if we had a reservation. We said no and the short guy said ok, we have a table but everyone has to drink and we have to buy 2 hookahs. We were ok with the hookah but a number of people in our group do not drink. They asked if they could order non-alcoholic drinks to cover the minimum or just not have drinks since they don't drink. The guy then went to ask the woman inside who then proceeded to say everyone has to drink. We say ok fine, the 3 people who drink will order 2 and cover the other people's minimum. She then says out of nowhere that the tables are reserved. The restaurant was more than half empty. It was confusing that 3 minutes earlier they had space as long as everyone was drinking but then miraculously they couldn't seat us. That was fine but then we watched 3 people walk up without a reservation and they sat them and didn't ask if everyone was drinking. It's of note that the other group who walked in were not Black (my entire group was). Even one of the workers at the place said he wasn't sure why this was happening. I called before hand to see if they was open and still selling food and a lady answered the phone stating "yes come on in we are still open and the kitchen is also". I came here after a comedy show one evening. There are two parts of this establishment. 1 that looks like an actual lounge and the other that looks like a semi-Chinese restaurant. The lounge area was already to capacity, so we had to sit in the Chinese restaurant looking area. We ordered food and drinks: Lamb and Shrimp platter Chicken Quesadilla Glass of Cabernet White sangria We also had hookah. The food and the service were good and the workers there were attentive. I would definitely consider stopping by whenever I'm in the areas. Ps--they do not honor the check-in-glass of wine deal. *Threatened to call the police on us, despite them scamming us* Their menu is unclear. They claimed to have $50 hookah with no indications of additional charges. $50 is pricy compared to a lot of places, but I still was okay. I gave them $100. The server gave me back $35. I assumed he miscalculated, so I let him know. He said there was a service charge and taxes included. I asked him to indicate where in the menu/place this is the case. He said "this is New York." I was born and raised in New York, where exactly is a $15 charge for a cash purchase of hookah coming from? I've never been charged taxes or charges for hookah. I tell him, I wasn't made aware of this, so I'd like to get my money back. He aggressively declined. I asked again and he said "ok so we can call the police then." I was very relaxed and calm in demeanor so I don't know why the cops needed to be involved. This was an intimidation tactic that I was not buying. I told him that I would call the police as well. He refused to give me my money back. He said to look at the sign on the wall. I told him to read it to me. He said he couldn't read English. Huh? I read the paper out loud. The paper said there's a service charge added to CREDIT CARDS and it requires an ID. I paid in cash. He brought the female host/manager to speak to us. She was very dismissive and rude. She also refused to just give us the money back. We never touched the hookah. You overcharged us, just give us the money and we'll leave. She repeatedly spoke over me. When I tried to retell my encounter, she kept telling me to calm down. Your employee threatened to call the cops on me over his own ignorance and miscommunication. I'm calm, but I have the right to speak up for myself. She said "oh sweetie this is New York, there's charges for everything." I told her to indicate where and she said it was reflected in my receipt. The receipt said $0.00. I guess the guy can't read numbers either. They were making up prices. I told the lady to just give me back my $100 and I would leave with no problems. She kept saying that I wanted to make a scene. I assured her the opposite but she was getting aggressive, even leaning towards my face. The man threatening to call the police because we wanted our money back was what escalated the situation. When he finally obliged and walked off, the women kept yapping and further provoking the situation. We kept telling them to just give us the money and we'd go. They eventually did, while still muttering insults in their language. When I stepped out my sister realized she left her phone charging. They had cleared the table and refused to give my sister her own phone back. He was smirking. Once we started dialing for 911, that's when he returned my sister's phone. Stealing someone's phone? Not only wild but illegal. This is appalling behavior. I have never experienced anything as insane as this. They were loud and wrong. No wonder their place was empty and dim. Brought my boyfriend for his birthday back in September and I was impressed. Quesadillas were to die for and he had the shawarma which he said was delicious. The hookah was brought to the table 15 minutes later and the gentleman that brought it said we are closing in 15 minutes. Given how much I hate the requirements, the built in tip, and the service here, I somehow end up going back to this place. It is probably because it is the most reliable and convenient place for me. It is right by Port Authority so after hookahing, I can go home. What I don't like about this place is how they charge you for water. They don't have tap water (so they say...), but you can see some people are drinking tap water. I guess some people get preferential treatment. However, I did have an interesting night and met a group of fun ladies one night when I was just hookahing with my girl friend one night. The ladies liked how my friend was tall and tatted. We hookahed as a group, they gave us some of their fries, and taught my friend how to twerk. Okay fine.... due to this, I am adding another star. There are better hookah places out there, but if you need to get home via Port Authority after a long day of drinking all day and hookahing, this is a very convenient place. After living in the Middle East for years, I knew my expectations were going to be high and tough. And yeah... this place was pretty bad. The service was bad and the woman was really rude to us. The food was an embarrassment for Egyptian food. The "hummus" was certainly not hummus (supermarket hummus would be better) and the "fattoush" was huge chunks of veggies including zucchini (what?!!?) and had no flavoring at all (even I can make good fattoush, it's not hard!!!). The cheese sticks were good but it's not that hard to stick frozen cheese sticks in the oven and heat them up.... Pretty much what I'm saying is the food is bad so don't come here to eat. However, the shisha was decent and the drinks were good. We had several cups of sangria which was delicious so get the pitcher instead of ordering cup after cup since it was good! It was also my first time trying white wine sangria which was a pleasant surprise that I've had more of since being back in the US. Yum! Don't come out of your way here for the shisha or drinks but if you're in the area and super desperate for shisha, this place is adequate. A cozy spot in the city for some drinks and hookah! I joined a party of about 10 people and in order to get a drink i had to ask the bartender as the server hadn't touch the table for a while BUT they definitely made it up by making a strong mojito and coming more often as drinks were running low. The sangria pitchers (both red and white) were strong and I'd definitely recommend it, the music was definitely to the liking of the crowd and they were open till late without rushing people out. The hookah in my opinion was strong and the coal was definitely changed often :) A very unfortunate incident occurred to a friend who unknowingly touched the surface of an exposed radiator by mistake and got burned. Hopefully the management fixes it ASAP because it is located right at the entrance of the space. read more
