We were craving some hot soup and noodles on our last rainy day in Seattle and yelped Hot As Pho for the nearest pho spot. We were able to be seated quickly, but service after that took forever. Other than us, there was only one other table and it looked like the guy forgot about us. I tried flagging him down a couple times to order, but he never noticed. Once we ordered, they make you pay right away which was a little weird but whatever. Once we got our food, service was non existent after that point which I guess was because we already paid. Decent Pho place as it was the first Pho place I tried in Seattle. Disclaimer is I am coming from VA where we had a giant Vietnamese community and we had access to amazing amazing Pho. So this place was a little disappointing but we still enjoyed the hot soups. This place offers decent pho and I can't really complain for the price/value. Right when I walked in, the server sat me and helped me order pretty soon after. The unique thing about here is that you pay right after you order so the tipping is a little odd but nonetheless, not bad. The pho was alright but wasn't as flavorful as I would like it to be. At first I had a great experience here, they are super fast and efficient and I love most of the food. I got the spring rolls which were good, except the peanut sauce which was broken and had the consistency of water. I got the BBQ Pork Bahn Mi which was good and had a nice kick. I also had the Taro Bubble Tea, although I wasn't expecting it to be a slushy. The reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because in the middle of eating my lunch, a huge cockroach crawled right over my food. Pests and infestations in my opinion are disgusting and inexcusable. I have never written a food review no matter how good or bad a food establishment was. But this one is worthy of one. My group of 4 was disembarking from the Holland America cruise for the day, and we were all craving Pho. We yelped and thought we'd give Hot as Pho a try due to the WALKING distance from pike place and the dock. As we head to the restaurant we bumped into 4 other people we had met on the cruise from Vancouver, also craving pho after having 3 days of buffet style dining on board. We said we were on the way to Hot as Pho, so they followed us there. We entered the restaurant and the waitress asked us how many people. We said there's 8 of us but we'll sit in 2 separate tables of 4. We were all chatting about the cruise while waiting to be seated ( it's a little awkward sitting together as we're not that close). Both groups requested to sit at separate tables BUT the waitress said for us to wait a minute for her to put 3 tables together for 8 people. We again said "Please! We'll sit separately!" She then said 'No! It's more convenient for us!' We were all confused as she moved a table of 4 and 2 together and proceed to ask 2 existing customers to move so she could strategically put them all together. If we were a family or group of 8 I would really appreciate it. But we weren't, so she put us in a weird position of sitting with a group of acquaintances. (I'm sure they wanted their privacy as well) Now, for the food. We all lowered our expectations and standards because we were downtown and all the authentic Pho restaurants are in, or closer to Chinatown. Their broth is watery and clear with lots of MSG and salt but lacking the aromatics of the spices (cloves, fennel, star anise, cinnamon, ginger etc..)present in a delicious bowl of pho. Hence, the reason why other reviewers would describe as BLAND. With our lowered expectations, we honestly agreed that it was subpar at best. We were disappointed but we were ok with it due to the walking distance from the dock. When the bill came, it read "party over 6 is charged 20% gratuity" which is fair for finer dining or higher end establishments for big parties. BUT 20% for a noodle restaurant is gauging and unreasonable. This was the reason why she refused to listen to us to be seated separately, and so adamant about seating us all together. We paid and I walked up to the cashier and told her in private that we had no problem giving a good tip if the service was good, but we never wanted to sit together in the first place, and she had insisted on seating us together just to charge the 20% gratuity is not good business practice. One of the waitresses behind the counter immediately got defensive and retorted ''THIS IS EXACTLY HOW WE RUN OUR BUSINESS WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT! EVEN IF YOU SAT IN 2 DIFFERENT TABLES, WE WOULD STILL CHARGE YOU THE 20% BECAUSE YOU KNOW EACH OTHER!" WTH!!!...the audacity of her to be so blatantly greedy and unreasonble.. especially towards a customer. Both waitresses came out around the counter, one extremely rude, the other trying to justify the charge. It is unbelievable the length they'll go to charge the extra tips. Enough said. STAY AWAY!! There are a few more Vietnamese pho restaurants nearby. We just unfortunately took our chance with this one. If you have a car, go to the more authentic ones near Chinatown... or anywhere else. EDIT: To the owner, My review stated an experience we had with the shady way you run your business. We had stated multiple times that ''we'll sit in 2 tables'' I don't know how much clearer we could of been For any business to be successful, one must learn to take critical reviews and find ways to improve. But reading your response to all the negative reviews demonstrated that you don't care to improve in anyway. "The customer is the problem." Your response are often childish, defensive and angry. Ranting to customers they need to see a therapist for giving an honest review of their experience. I'm not sure at this point who has anger issues here. read more

Not too shabby. I've passed by Hot As Pho while walking around the area on my lunch break and finally decided to give it a try...especially after I found out they had a happy hour! Although when I learned about the happy hour, they had regular size phos for six bucks, but they had increased the price to $7.50, which I found out when I visited. Still not bad. It's definitely a solid three stars and a pho place that you only want to check out during happy hour - which is what it's worth. It wasn't busy at all when we came by around 3PM for happy hour. My friend and I both ordered a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, which was good. So you can imagine my disappointment when I saw that the glass wasn't filled to the top, since it was a yummy drink! Bummer. As for pho, I ordered the brisket and flank pho. It didn't take too long to get and it did come with a side of the usual assortment of basil leaves, sprouts and jalapenos. I was glad that the flank was not overly cooked and brisket was tender and easy to tear apart. But the broth was super salty - so much so that it distracted from the flavor of the meats. No need for hoisin sauce here! It wasn't a bad pho, but certainly not the best or one I'd come back for. I found it to be average. Overall, Hot As Pho meets your pho craving at an affordable price on happy hour! If you visit, take advantage of this deal, otherwise paying full price for this may be a disappointing experience. Another mediocre Asian restaurant in Seattle. Prices are what you expect from a place in Downtown Seattle (looks like their Happy Hour price for a bowl of pho is what normal pho prices are out in the suburbs). Service was friendly and attentive, but the pho was just not that good. The broth was pretty bland, and the Regular size seemed like a Small (I was still a bit hungry after). I ordered mine with Tendon and they did give a decent amount of meat which I appreciated. I haven't found a Pho restaurant in the city that's been that good yet, but I'd say Meekong Bar in Belltown has been the best so far (6/10). read more

This place gives you the large bowls so that you can actually eat pho the right way!! They also provided the spoon which, some other places don't do. The pho itself felt very clean and fresh. Super accommodating owner that proudly runs his small pho shop with an older lady in the kitchen I believe he mentioned is his mom! My coworkers and I come here periodically to get some of their pho broth that they allow us to get in two sizes ranging from $2-$4 dollars depending on the size of the pint. The pho broth is super rich, a little salty, and the perfect soul replenishing sidedish to have with our lunches. I have also ordered the veggie pho from here with tofu, tons of noodles, and veggies ranging from carrots, brocolli, and cabbage and it was super satisfying. I've walked past this place many times, but I've never had the urge to go in. However, I came here for lunch one day because a friend recommended it and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised! When you walk in, you see a few tables, but they also have a secret downstairs with many more places to sit. My friends and I were there during the middle of the lunch rush, so we had to share a communal table with some other folks, but it was perfectly fine. I ordered #24, the Grilled Pork Bun with vermicelli. It took them a while to take our order, but the food came out really fast! It wasn't a ton of food, but I guess it was pretty cheap. Not only was my soup hot as pho but sitting by the window with the heater blowing on my chin was as well. My co-worker lured me into trying "a new place". We usually go to one by work that we've endearing called "the mediocre pho place". This place wasn't better but it wasn't terrible. The service was fast and nice and all but the broth, it wasn't especially flavorful in fact it was a little on the bland side. You know when you can't hear the t.v. loud enough so you turn up the volume with the remote? I wanted to do that with the flavor here. I ordered the rare steak pho tai and yeah. I wanted a little more intensity. Pho places in Seattle that I find that have that punch are Pho Bak, Long Pho, and The Monkey Bridge. We also ordered the veggie wontons. Those were nice. This place was atrocious. To start their water comes in a smelly plastic cup and tastes just as awful. They had no functioning restroom and zero ac what so ever. It's a shame that the only part of this restaurant that was good was the food. It has fantastic flavor. However the moment I saw a roach crawling up the wall by our table. I lost my appetite as well as my friend and partner loosing their appetites as well. The kicker was they used a towel that could have potentially been used again to wipe tables. The establishment after killing the roach right next to us had the nerve to make us pay after we told them we are leaving......with a 25% discount that should have been 100% as we did not barely even touch three dishes of pho, an appetizer and drinks. The outside and the decor made me want to try this restaurant because it seems authentic. I got a regular size bowl of pho (unfortunately I forget which kind). Their menu is very extensive (probably around 20 different kinds of pho) and you can choose a regular or large size bowl. The first thing I didn't like about my pho is that it wasn't served piping hot. I know this might be a good thing for some people but I personally love my soup to be as hot as possible.
