I've never heard of Vietnamese Hot Pot until I moved from San Diego to Orange County but I'm so glad I know now because this place is amazing! Walking into the restaurant, it'll have a KBBQ feel to it however instead of just a grill theres a spot of soup in the middle with a ring that's a grill around it. There are 3 different soup types and we always opt for the Spicy soup. From here it's pretty much self-serve since you cook all your food yourself. There's a grocery style fridge in the back of the restaurant that houses all the yummy ingredients you need. I usually get a vegetable medley with sour seasonings to put in the soup, beef tongue, rib-eye, curry chicken, and quail eggs. There is a lot of other meats in veggies to chose from like green mussels, tripe, lamb, liver, fish balls, cilantro, etc. Don't forget to grab your complimentary butter to grill the meats on the outer grill! There's a huge rice cooker also in the back where it's self-serve as well. I've never seen such a big rice cooker so that's amazing to me lol. I love this place! It's self serve so you grab what you want and just dip it in the soup or pop it on the grill. I normally grab the ribeye beef and the udon. It's the perfect combo with their soup, which you get the option of spicy or not. I normally go with spicy. The only thing I hate is when the oil from the grill start to pop, and you just end up getting burned. I took my family there to try it out on Sunday. Cute decor, but there wasn't a very large selection of options. There were a few slices of meat on each plate for $3.25 each and veggies were~2.75 (i think or 2.25 I can't remember). My friend suggested this place and we gave it a try. Basically it's shabu shabu + korean BBQ. At the center is your pot with broth and surrounding the pot is the grill- BE CAREFUL! I really don't like this design just because when you scoop the shabu broth into your bowl, some of it will spill on the grill and splatter. So they charge by the plate. There's refrigerators that contain seafood, meat, veggies, condiments, noodles, etc. I like how you get to grab your own plates from the refrigerators. The rice is self-served and they don't charge for this, so get as much rice as you want! Overall, all the plates will add up. I think it's pretty expensive for the amount of food that you get. Everything is self-serve so you can pick out what you'd like at the fridge towards the back of the restaurant. The sauces and rice are also self-serve so you can survey around and see what is up for grabs. Between two people we got two plates of ribeye, chicken, salmon, pork belly, and short ribs. We also got one set of vegetables to make sour soup (canh chua) which came with the tamarind seasoning. Each dish ranged from $3.95 - $5.95 so it can add up at the end. You then grab a tray, utensils, and whatever you want to eat/cook out of the coolers at the back of the restaurant. My favorites are noodle/veggie combo plates, ribeye, short rib, eggs, and seaweed salad. There's a huge self serve rice cooker in the back by the drink fountain. So was going to go to tebot but the girlfriend decided to try this place out... Sat down and told her it was our first time here and she was like okay let me show you how it works. Although you do all the cooking at your table with the grill/soup pot setup, it should always come out the right way. The lady helpers were pretty nice and attentive. They provided us a broth that we would then add ingredients to taken from your own selection at the refrigerators located in the back of the restaurant. It's kind of like doing your groceries and then immediately cooking them right away. We had the Kalbi ribs, some chicken and pork meats. In our soup, we added bean sprouts, some bok choy and fish balls. What a pleasant surprise! I was a little worried that there were only 4 other people in the whole place when we got there for lunch at ~1pm but it let us roam around and grab whatever we wanted. The place is very clean, especially for a place where you cook stuff on your table. You don't have to worry about the typical grease splatter that seemingly gets built up over time. You DO smell like BBQ'ed meat after you leave though, but it's well worth it. The the other readers said, you pretty much go to the back and get what you want from the refrigerator. Dishes range from $2.50 for veggies and all the way up to $5.50 for meat. This is a GREAT value if you are interested in filling up on mostly veggies. The dishes are arranged very neatly too! They also have a wide verity of stuff to choose from too. I noticed that the veggies wasn't the freshest but who cares, it's cheap. Be sure to drink the broth when you are mostly done cooking, it tastes great if you season it correctly. A nice way to wash down your meal. They also give you free white rice too, which you can help yourself too next to the soda machine. I use soy sauce and sate (peppers with oil) to dip my meat in for spiciness and a bit more flavor. There's a fridge with your choices of food. You just grab the plates you want and they charge you by each plate. You can make soup in the pot and grill the meats on the side using butter. Unlimited rice, so grab as much as you'd like! The soup is yummy and the meats are juuiiiiccyyy!! Desserts are available there if you have enough room after your dinner. (Although I've never tried them) I've been a loyal customer for 8 years! There's a rice pot and there's a fridge for you to grab whatever plate of food that you want to get. For the pot, you can have regular soup and/or spicy broth. I got the half and half and thought the soups were actually decent. We grabbed some sea cucumbers, squid, fish, and several different types of veggie plates for the hot pot. As for the grill, we got Korean short ribs which were marinated really well, and some ribeye beef. They do have a minimum price per person which is $6. Their utensils were gross. I grabbed 2 forks from the utensil can and both had stains on them, and the tongs were obviously not cleaned very well either, there was food on it still. The service was ehh. One of the female workers definitely needs to improve on her customer service skills, I haven't seen her the last few times that I've been here, but the male worker who I've seen working the last several times wasn't friendly at all either. read more
