There is so much to choose from - a wide variety of meats and seafood and fresh vegetables and dumplings, noodles, rice cakes - you get the idea. You will run out of room in your stomach before you can every try everything they offer! Called the number linked to the Fairfax location but Chantilly picked up instead. I couldn't understand them over the phone so I thought I called the right location. Showed up to the Fairfax location and was told I made the mistake and that I should call the Fairfax location next time. Was also told that the number online is not correct and I should call the number on their window/card. It's a little hard to make a reservation that way but that's just my opinion. The ambience just feels awkward I frequent this place often but this ruined the beginning of an outing. The table really only accommodates 4 people, we had my friends daughter with us and one of us sat in the issue which was at sometimes we got bumped when people were walking to and from. The meats, broth, temperature everything here was delicious. I will most definitely come back with an empty stomach and friends. The ordering is pretty simple 1. For less, 2. Medium, 3. For more. Wow I love this place. I didn't mind the longer drive to Fairfax for an AYCE hotpot because there's none close to me. I especially enjoyed the sauce bar and creating my own sauces. So you pick your broth and we picked the spicy and the regular shabu shabu which were both good. I will try the kimchi one next time! I recommend the lamb and the fatty brisket, and dipping them in the sauces made it even more yummy. I particular loved the mini dumplings they were so tiny and cute and so good. So pretty much I ate those and the meat. I tried the app cabbage and other vegetables but I liked the enoki mushroom the best because it's got a bit of crunch into it. This place is perfect for when it's cold and rainy out. They don't do reservations but they do call ahead so do that. It gets pretty crowded during the busiest eating times of the day. They have many different tables, ones there offer personal or a family pot that can be split. As of March 17, 2023, it was $32 for adults, $15 for kids and kids under 6 eat for free. We love their veggies and food selection. My favorite was the watercress and dumplings. They are like tiny dumplings that are so flavorful and cute. Their slice beef was melt in your mouth. They have the sauce bar where you can mix your own dipping sauce. So here's my quick COVID-19 update: Face masks are required to enter, they are spacing everyone out at tables if you are indoors and they've revamped their small patio to be able to seat more people and added umbrellas for shade. There no more physical menus but instead a QR code at each table that pulls up the menu on your phone. The sauce bar is closed but they've added all the various sauce ingredients to the menu so you can request them to bring them to you, and they also leave a pitcher of water for you on the table now. I missed AYCE hot pot so much!!!! Hot spot hit the spot. New restrictions: Only certain tables were used, for social distancing purposes. Take note of the waitlist on Yelp, but once you get to the restaurant if there is a line, you sign up for the waitlist there as well, and it texts you when you're up. The wait didn't take longer than 10 min for my party of 2. For us, sauce bar was open. Make sure you use the wax paper provided to use the tongs so you're not touching it with your bare hands. There is a QR code on the table, no physical menus. When the waitstaff comes by, you let them know what you want. Waitstaff and owner was constantly checking in our us, to see if everything was okay, if we wanted more food etc. A water pitcher was provided at the table so we could refill ourselves. By the end of the night, I was STUFFED with good food- no complaints. Really enjoyed the beef and the marinated pork meats. Ordering the straw and enoki mushrooms was a good move too. Soooooo excited that Hot Spot reopened after their renovations! Two of us arrived right before 6pm on Saturday and we were able to be seated right away. The individual tables were full but there were spots available in the middle area. Within a few minutes, Hot Spot filled up so quickly and there was a decent wait! A few changes that we noticed was that the tables now have built in hot plates for the individual pots. I really like this update! I like being able to control the heat since the fires that they used previously to heat the pots could get aggressive boiling and steaming. With the pot sitting in the table, it makes it easier to actually see what you're cooking. Also, the individual pots seem deeper. I am disappointed that they changed the bowls for the dipping sauce. The ones that they use now are pretty shallow so it was difficult to mix a bunch of items from the sauce bar and i spilled a lot. The food was consistent like previously. We were pretty excited that they had dumplings available as the last few times we went before, they were always out of the dumplings. I didn't remember seeing this item on the menu before, but I just noticed that they have ramen noodles now. If you've never tried hot pot, this is a fantastic place to start! You can either get a large soup pot and have two different soup bases or you can have your own individual small hot pot. We had the large pot with the Tom yum and Sichuan mala (regular spicy). They were both delicious but the Tom Yum was my favorite. We had most of the meats, plenty of veggies, seafood and noodles. It's all you can eat but be careful with the noodles; they'll swell up and you won't be able to eat anymore. They also had a sauce bar! The workers were extremely helpful and even made us a special sauce that catered to our tastes. For two people, one coke, one green tea it came to $57 before tip. You can order more of each later and can ask for small portion of an ingredient to keep down waste. They do have a disclaimer that if you are wasteful they can add 10% but they apparently only do that to keep people from overloading on requests for food they will not eat. This is essentially a buffet they bring to you. This place was so much fun and making your own food let people with different tastes customize their meals. We were at a table for 4 with each person having their own hot pot but I believe family style is an option. Dinner cost more than lunch and weekends are at the dinner price. Why would you care if I order 3 different things in the same section or order the same item 3 times in an order? I'm sorry, this place should no longer be called AYCE. You got to re-order as soon as the protein is delivered to your table If you are lucky to track down your waiter/waitress. This kills much of the happy eating mode as you are constantly at 100% awareness to locate your waiter to replenish the food. We have a few guests that can only eat 1 protein on the list. By not allowing guests to order the same protein more than once in an order creates troubles for both the guests and the staff. We were one of the very first super fans to visit Hot Spot a decade ago. My favorite sauce was House Sesame because the broth I picked was spicy Szechuan. The sweet sauce was a great offset to the hot broth.
