Hidden on a mall strip and unless you are looking for it, it's not all that visible. I've come over a few times. It's inexpensive and you get lots of food your the price. Individual hot pot boiler at your table, you chose your broth and then your protein and veggies. You control the temperature and way you want your pit cooked. There's a spice/sauce bar you can choose condiments from. It's a fun experience but not fancy nor with lots of decor or vibes going on. Just come to eat and go!

My friend took me out for my birthday dinner and because I always have a craving for hot pot we went to Hot Spot. It was not busy for a Monday evening, but they were very slow at bringing our orders out. By the time we made our sauce and our soups were boiling, they still have not brought out the meat. We had to flag a server down two separate times to remind them, which was a bit annoying. The wall decor made the interior appear modern, but the barriers in between tables made the place look dull and cramped. Overall, the food quality and service were mediocre compared to other AYCE hot pot places.

Great hot pot place with a variety of meats and veggie options. The service was pretty fast as they brought out our items soon after we ordered. Our server checkin on us frequently and made sure to refill our broths whenever it got low. Absolutely loved the drinks for the Halloween special. I was able to try the Jell-O shots and the blood bag. Both were fun drinks and made our time at hot spot more fun. Definitely a great place to hangout with friends or a date.

Neat place where you have your own self service burners to boil your broth and cook at the table. The mushroom broth was good. Vegetables were fresh. There wasn't a lot of sauces to pick from. The proteins that they give are in small portions esiecually shrimp and scallops. Ambiance is okay, there was a stall where it was cordoned off with yellow tape like a crime scene, just looked messy for a dining place.

The unlimited hot pot provided great value for the money. We used a groupon deal. Note their dinner prices are all weekend. They offered high quality hot pot ingredients including thinly sliced prime ribeye beef, scallops, octopus, squid, king oyster mushrooms along with all the staples like puffed tofu, fish balls, and a variety of vegetables and noodles. They also had a self serve build your own sauce station. The scallops tasted slightly fishy and too blanch since they arrived in a frozen block but other than that all the ingredients were delicious. Much easier than shopping and prepping at home.

Saw this place on Groupon and went with my fiancé and friend a week ago for Saturday lunch. Called to make reservations and they do not take it for small groups. However, there were plenty of open tables for us which had both individual small and large family style hot pot grills. They were very COVID friendly with plexiglass between many tables, all wear masks, and they take temperatures of all patrons which is greatly appreciated. Perhaps soon, if they feel comfortable, they could check vaccination cards as well but this is not quite a commonplace practice yet. We chose the family style hot pot and got both Shabu Shabu and Tom Yum Broths. We chose with Prime Ribeye Beef, Lamb, and Beef Tongue for the meats. Our fish was Tilapia and Flounder. The starches were Udon, Ramen, and Rice Cakes. We also chose Fish Cakes in the Misc Meats category. The six veggie items we picked were Chinese Broccoli, Bamboo Shoots, Baby Corn, Enoki Mushrooms, Straw Mushrooms, and King Oyster Mushrooms. It was all delicious and a very fun experience and will likely come when back in the Fairfax area.

We got the family hotpot, it was delicious but there were some concerns. - Everytime we order a few things, half of them don't come out. We asked the waitress and yet still doesnt come out. - When we asked a refill for the soup, all they did was add hot water to the soup. Which originally our soup color was red for the tom yum, and clear for the shabu2 broth, it ended up looking like the same color because how watered down it is.

Protip: don't wear a white or nice shirt. You're gonna catch some broth splatter no matter how careful you are. I loved that it was all you could eat. I can't imagine most people would want to stay past the 2 hour mark. But you can pick what you want and enjoy the tasty broth and their menu options. I really liked the mini dumplings, scallops, and marinated pork. While we were waiting for the food I made a spicy dipping sauce at the sauce bar but after tasting the broth I went back and made a mild umami one. The sichuan peppercorns got me!

    I'm hot pottin'.

Decent price, especially during lunch hours. Quality, consistency, and variety of products and dipping sauces are all solid.

What are the vegan options? Is there a spicy broth that's vegan friendly?

Is place is super vegan friendly. They have Veggie broth specifically for Vegans

Is it all you can eat?

Yes, definitely. The max we could fill ourselves was to a 3rd run. Almost felt bursting at that point. They do ask to limit choices of 3 choices from protein, carb and seafood section and 6 from vegetables.

Is this place kid friendly and do they have a kids price? I have a 2 year old that will eat most of this stuff, just not sure if the atmosphere is accommodating.

Kids 6 and under eat free. Personally I don't think the atmosphere is kid-friendly but I've noticed…

Did they go out of business? I tried calling but the number is out of service

    They've reopen 10/27/18

    Are there gluten free options?

Yeah! I actually wrote a Hot Spot review specifically for this topic :). It's a great place if you have gluten allergies or Celiac's disease! (Or if you're just eating-gluten free)

Can you order 1 for two people or do two people have to have their own?

You can share a pot or have individual pots

2 questions: Only way to make a reservation is to call them? And, what is the dinner price for adults? Thanks!

They accept reservation only party of 6 or more, and adult should be cost about $23. Weekend will be packed, if you have more than 6. Recommend to make one.

Does anyone know what is in their broths? Do they add sugars. Does it have soy or any nitrates etc in it?

There are a different kinds of broth which you cab choose from, ex veggie broth, tom yum (spicy) broth...etc

What is the lunch price for adults?

    $22 per person! AYCE

Do they do anything for birthdays?

    I don't think so

Had never heard of this place, but a…read moreFacebook friend raved about the drunken noodles here, and I noticed the spot wasn't too far from me (within short walking distance of the Dunn Loring Metro stop in Merrifield near Vienna), so I decided to walk over and check it out. Went over a few Saturdays ago a little before 2 PM. Semi-small spot, but it wasn't busy, so plenty of seats were available and I was basically able to sit anywhere. (I'll point out that while they do serve beer and wine here, there is no bar area or TVs in the restaurant.) This is one of those spots where you have to access the menu through your phone--no paper menus (unless maybe you ask). Not too much of a problem for me because I knew what I'd come for: the drunken noodles. Not much for vegetables mixed in with my meat, so I ordered the beef drunken noodles with no veggies (except for basil, which I left in) and scrambled egg. Ordered at spice level 4 (extra spicy); spice levels range from 0 (not spicy) to 5 (Thai spicy). I love spicy food, but I was warned by the waiter not to choose spice level 5 (LOL), so I went with 4 just to be safe. Don't know if it was because they weren't too busy, but the noodles came out blazingly fast--in less than 5 minutes! And the noodles were excellent too--honestly, up there with some of the best noodles I've ever had! At a spice level of 4, you could feel the spice, but it wasn't bad at all. I think spicy food lovers would be perfectly fine at 4 or even 5. The noodles were also well-portioned and fantastic. The base price for the noodles was around $14. While most protein add-ons are no extra charge, the beef option was an extra $2, and adding scrambled egg was another $2. With taxes, the price for my noodles came out to around $20, which wasn't bad at all considering my add-ons. Customer service was good--the waiter was nice, prompt, and informative about the menu (which honestly isn't the easiest to navigate online). Great experience overall, and I was in and out of the restaurant in less than 25 minutes. Enjoyed my meal so much that I came back a couple days later for their Monday-Friday lunch special, where you get a free appetizer (chicken soup, tofu soup, or crispy veggie dumplings at the spice level of your choice) with any entree. Ordered the beef drunken noodles and chicken soup, both at spice level 5. Both came out quickly and were excellent. Also tried the recommended Thai iced tea for the first time, which was also very good. No complaints about Kiin Imm Thai--I see why they're so highly rated here, and I'll definitely be returning as a regular. Only regret is living within walking distance of this spot for over 3 years and not being aware of it. In addition to this location in the Vienna area (close to the Dunn Loring Metro), I believe they also have a sister location of the same name in Rockville, Maryland. Highly recommend!

Decided on this little spot in Fairfax town center after having a quick weekend day trip to DC. Really pleasantly surprised with the whole atmosphere of the place. I was seriously craving Chinese food and needed wonton soup. NEEDED! Upon entering, my friend mentioned the fact the restaurant was empty wasn't a good sign and had a 3.5 rating. Well, don't let that deter you because some of the best Chinese restaurants have a 3.5 rating on Yelp (check out the numerous articles written about this topic)! I tried to persuade my friend but she opted out of ordering anything and wanted to wait to see if I liked my food first. My friend proposed that after I finished, we head next door to Sisters Thai so she could order her dinner. Well, for starters - the food came out fast and I devoured the wonton noodle soup within 10 minutes. The broth and wontons were so flavorful. Interesting choice that they used wheat noodles instead of the standard egg noodles though still loved it. I also like that the broccoli had a nice crunch. Yes, wonton soup typically has bok choy but the broccoli was great. My only regret is why haven't I tried this place sooner?!?! My friend thought I was rushing so she could eat dinner but it was just so good! It was a great portion as well. I gave her one of my wontons to try and she said "wow!!!" Once I finished vacuuming my wontons soup, we walk over to Sisters Thai, but I knew I had to try more food from District Dumplings. You would think I would have been full from the wonton noodle soup but I am a glutton. So, I ordered the pork & shrimp dumplings to go via DoorDash and picked them up as a to-go order and bought them back to Sisters Thai. I had no shame and happily took out the dumplings from the to-go container and put them on my plate. The dumplings were so unreal that they didn't even need to be dipped in soy sauce. They were good as is and flavorful! Even my friend wanted to eat the dumplings and asked for four of them. Luckily, the staff at Sisters Thai didn't make it a big deal but they probably saw that I bought outside food. I'm coming back for more District Dumplings!! I was so happy to have tried a new restaurant and kept pointing at the restaurant that this was my new favorite place. Strangers saw how happy I was and smiled (or maybe because I looked crazy). Will have to gorge myself next time in trying more of the unique dumpling flavors! Updated Review (previously 5 stars) due to poor management response:…read more Management has changed since my last visit, and boy, this place is not what it used to be, and that makes me sad. About four years ago, I happily gave this restaurant 5 stars and recommended it to others. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was the complete opposite. During my meal, I discovered ANTS actively crawling around my food. (See video) It was disturbing to watch them around the sauce next to my meal, and I immediately stopped eating because I no longer felt comfortable consuming the rest of it. What disappointed me even more was how management handled the situation afterward. It was extremely difficult to get in touch with the manager despite multiple attempts. When I finally spoke with him, he refused to provide a refund because more than 30 days had passed since my visit. Given the nature of the complaint and the difficulty I had reaching management, I found that response completely unreasonable. I also raised concerns about being asked questions during my visit that made me feel racially stereotyped. Those concerns were never acknowledged or addressed by management, which only added to my disappointment. Because I believed this was a legitimate food safety issue, I filed a complaint with the Fairfax County Health Department. After investigating, the inspector informed me that they visited the restaurant, discussed my concerns with the manager, and that the manager confirmed my reported ant sightings. The Health Department also required additional pest control measures. Beyond the service issues, I also noticed a significant decline in the food. The wonton soup was bland and lacked the rich flavor I remembered, and the General Tso's Surprise tasted off and was missing the depth and spice that used to make it one of my favorite dishes. This restaurant used to be one of my favorite vegetarian spots, which is why writing this review is so disappointing. Based on my recent experience, the difficulty in getting in touch with management, and their total lack of customer service or care for loyal customers, I can't recommend dining here. They do not care about their customers based on how I was treated.

Our group of five sampled a great variety from the menu, including the Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin, Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Lettuce Wraps, Cumin Fish, Stir-Fried Beef Tenderloin, Crispy Pork Ribs with Scallion Crisps and Mixed Grain & Purple Rice, Stir-Fried Beef with Chilies, and Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. The standout for me was the cumin fish. It was fried perfectly--crispy without being greasy--and the cumin added great flavor without overpowering the dish. The crispy pork ribs lived up to their name and had a nice kick of spice. The cucumber salad packed a serious garlic punch, which I really enjoyed. The Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin was something completely different from what I expected. It's sliced into long ribbons that resemble noodles or pasta. The flavor was excellent, although the texture took some getting used to. The only dish that fell a little short was the stir-fried beef tenderloin, which could have used a bit more seasoning. Everything else was delicious. The portions are enormous. At first the prices seemed a little high, but once the food arrived it made perfect sense. Every entrée was easily enough for two meals. One thing to keep in mind is that rice is ordered separately and isn't included with the entrées. Service was excellent throughout our meal. We arrived for lunch and didn't realize they close between lunch and dinner (lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). We ended up staying until about 2:45, and the staff never made us feel rushed even though they had technically closed. They greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu without hovering. The restaurant is tucked away on the ground floor of an office building, so it's easy to drive right past if you aren't looking for it. Parking was plentiful, and the oversized booths comfortably fit all five of us without feeling cramped. If you're dining with a group and want to sample a variety of authentic dishes, Mama Chang is definitely worth the visit.
