Facilities: I would not recommend this place to anyone with small children. They do not have a changing table and my husband had to change our daughter on the floor of bath, but that's not all. Staff: When I first came in I asked the hostess if they had a wait time. They just looked at me so said it again. The manager who overheard said no and had us seated. Weird but ok. Then we asked the waiter for a highchair. He brought out a booster seat. (Our daughter by the way is 11 months old) Then we asked for a real high chair. He finally brought one after stating that " We may have be moved to different table." He didn't give us any of the specials. We only knew about them from overhearing the waitress behind us. When the food came, I asked the waiter about my chicken lettuce wrap with rice noodles. The noodles look like chips. I was not, wanting rich chips but rice noodles which it stated on the menu. He did nothing to rectify the situation just left. We were constantly looking for him and he was never visible to track down. He also never came back to refill my drink. He was very rude. Overall not good. Food: We got the salmon and rice for an appetizer and my husband got a chicken sandwich and I got a chicken lettuce rap with rice noodles. The salmon was really good 10/10. My husband's chicken sandwich was alright 7/10. My chicken lettuce rap with rice noodles was pretty good if I ignore the fact there were no rice noodles. My Chicken . This is a very popular local place for good reason. It's a short walk from our house, and we've been patrons for many, many years. Excellent food, great staff, and we love the fire pits. In fact, we built a very similar fire pit in our back yard. This is a great place, accordingly, it gets busy on the weekends, but it's always a good bet. read more

We went to Hot Tuna for Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. I made a reservation for two at 6:30. I arrived a bit early and they had my table ready if I wanted it. I decided to wait at the bar. Happy hour runs from 4-6 which is a tight window when you are coming from Portsmouth and I missed it by 7 minutes. The very nice bartender offered me one drink at the happy hour price. Thank you. My dinner date and I were given a choice of where we wanted to sit and we chose the dinning room over the bar area. Our server, I think it was Shelley, came right over to take our drink orders, discuss the menus and offer suggestions. We split the calamari and eggplant meatballs for appetizers. The calamari was good but I didn't care for the dipping sauce but that is because it was mayo based and I am not a fan. The Eggplant Meatballs....OMG they are terrific. You will never mistake it for being meat but I happen to love eggplant, so the seasoning and sauce, were perfect. My dinner companion ordered the parmesan crusted tuna with potatoes and I had the shrimp scampi over zoodles. My dinner was so good. I love zucchini noodles but you have to make sure they are not cooked too much or you get mush. They were heated enough to get the sauce flavor but still retained a crunch. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. The only issue we ran into was dessert. The Restaurant Week menu listed a cheesecake that was not on the menu that we had. When we inquired, the server didn't know anything about it but she was able to get us the cheesecake that we wanted. All in all, Hot Tuna is definitely one of my favorite restaurants to go to in Virginia Beach. The selection, the staff and service is top notch. read more

We arrived late on a weeknight and unlike some of the restaurants on the Oceanfront where we were repeatedly rejected, they sat us outside at a fire pit immediately with no issues. Went here for dinner with my husband today, there was a 20 minutes wait, the restaurant was packed but probably normal because of Sunday dinner time. Restaurant looks very nice inside, little bit loud. Hostess and waitress were polite. It was my first time trying She crab soup and it was sooo good! Better than i expected. My husband had some fried calamaries (huge portion, good for sharing). I had the small plate salmon and rice, my husband had the Mahi Mahi tacos. Food was really good and I especially appreciated the items offered on kids menu. They have fish tacos and popcorn shrimp on kids menu. They also had a nice selection of fun drinks (non-alcoholic) for kids. The kids food is also served on a frisbee that you can keep. I think that's pretty neat. I ordered a spinach and kale salad with fried goat cheese and added Tuna. It was pretty tasty, not out of this world but it was good. My son ordered the cedar plank salmon and that was delicious! I kinda wished I ordered the salmon... It was served with grilled corn mix and risotto. The risotto, to me was just ok, I think it needed some salt but my son loved it. The service was great. We were greeted immediately by hostess and our server was nice. No complaints here. I recommend this place. It's great for groups and/or the family. read more

Worth every penny! From our server Shaune to every single plate of food put on our table. Was absolutely incredible. Shaune was always there every time we needed or wanted something. We came here for happy hour today. Had a few crushes and other drinks on the happy hour menu. We also ordered the tuna tar tar, shrimp taco, Mahi taco, bbq chicken nachos, calamari and they were all delicious. Between the service, food and drinks, this place was worth every penny we spent here. I will definitely recommend to friends and family! And we will definitely be returning customers!! ;) read more

We got the bbq chicken nachos, mac and cheese and egg plant meatballs. The nachos were pretty good not enough chicken but still overall flavor really good! So my husband and I went for happy hour. The drinks were good the appetizers were good. I enjoyed the appetizer tacos and oysters, the calamari was just OK the sauce they put on it is odd. We had a great time and the only thing that I can say is when they brought our to go boxes as I opened it up a baby roach came out of there. HT had so many options to pick from! It was so hard to choose. I started with a $4 glass of Cabernet during happy hour (which ends at 6pm on Saturdays). My wife and I ordered the scallops for appetizer and they were delicious. They were accompanied by black rice and seaweed salad. The three items really came together and were the perfect app. I ordered grilled tequila tacos for my main entree and was not disappointed. Two tacos were pretty big sized and a side of rice and beans in a bowl. I got avocado on the side for an additional price. $14 did seem a little steep for 2 tacos but they were good. No dessert this time around but I was left intrigued about the famous homemade coconut cake. Next time!! We had a large party so 20% was automatically added to our bill - make sure to double check. :) read more

Only problem was the hostess tried to imply the roach came from the Chinese Restaurant next door. Her apology was based on it coming from next door. Oh Hot Tuna! Oh how I love this place! I honestly have not been in years and my love decided to take us Friday night for a very amazing, relaxing dinner. We started our evening off with shots of tequila because why not it was Friday night lol..our server recommended the orange crush which I also happen to love so that was a great add on to the fire pit & relaxing evening. For my entree I selected the shrimp and grits skillet. The shrimp and grits was amazing! Very delicious! It came oozing out on this skillet similar to ordering fajitas & every bite was phenomenal. I'm a huge shrimp and grits fan and this was definitely goes down as the best shrimp and grits in the 757. Our evening went so amazing we decided to come back Sunday for brunch. We came on Sunday afternoon for brunch & there was no crowd, no wait which was a bonus. For Sunday's brunch I ordered the lobster and bacon Benedict for $21 with tots. This was nothing short of amazing! I can not believe we have not been brunching here sooner but thank god we found this gem. My man got the soft shell Benedict and we shared one of each to get the best of both worlds with lobster and crab legs oozing with yummy egg over a English muffin. Definitely recommend these items. Our server today unfortunately was horrible but we could not allow that to ruin our overall view of this place but she definitely was terrible. I never write comment cards but made a point to do so today with how bad our service was. She apologized at least 4 times because she was outside serving and somehow continued to forget our table existed. We got our food from the kitchen staff and we were missing our pancake and thankfully the manager Ryan saved the day and brought our food. The manager was excellent but even after he talked to Jocelyn she apologized and continued to disappear for long periods of time without checking on us. We got the free mimosas with our yelp check in but I had to ask for water. Also we finished our food and 15-20 minutes went by and I got up and asked another staff member for our check. They found her and she apologized again as she was outside and unable to multitask..than she took another 8 minutes to return with our change (which she left out all the change and kept the change) lol! We will definitely still return as I know it was not the restaurant that was lacking and simply Jocelyn but we will make certain when we return, we will not return with the same waitress as we did today. My wife and I had dinner at Hot Tuna yesterday evening. It's a bit noisy but everyone is friendly including the guests. I had the scallops on a plank with a mixed vegetable medley, and mushrooms and rice with a smokey cheese flavor! Very delicious! My wife had the lettuce wedge with shrimp, and Mac-n-cheese. The bacon on the lettuce was crispy but the bacon in the Mac-n-cheese was undercooked and was not edible because my wife does not care for bacon that is undercooked. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the dressing was a homemade ranch with horse radish! I also had a bowl of she crap soup that was very tasty but could've used a little more crab! It was rich and flavorful and my wife was able to finish it for me. All in all a very tasty experience! We will go back! read more
