First attempt at Chinese Food in J-ville. Much like the other restaurants, not to my taste standards. I was surprised to see they offered egg food young on the menu, so I tried it. I got the lunch special and asked if they could do the rice "Chicago" style. I don't really understand how there can be such a variance in food taste or preparation when its the same culture. The egg foo young was not drizzled in gravy. The gravy was on the side. It taste like some kind of heavy thick mustard base rather than actual gravy. The egg foo young itslef was way to "eggy". The rice was brown like Chicago but taste nothing like it. The order taker/cashier was pleasant and the restaurant does offer in door dining. The menu offers a variety of items and high priced beverages. I went to the dollar tree across the street for my beverage instead of paying $3.00 for a 20z pop.. Overall, the food was alright for a hungry day but most likely will not eat here again. read more

Ordered dinner for pickup from this shop located in a strip mall on Argyle Forest Boulevard on Christmas Eve. I called in an order of crab Rangoon, egg rolls, lo mein, two General Tso's chicken dinners (one with fried rice and one with white rice) and one shrimp lo mein dinner. I was told the order would be ready in ten minutes (when I was not there in ten minutes, they called to make sure I was still coming). When I picked up the order, they had everything ready to go and we were able to grab sides like chop sticks and sauces from a small cabinet in the dining area. When we got the food home everything was in order and appeared to be correctly cooked. However, there were not very many shrimp in my wife's shrimp lo mein. Too bad, that this place serves the worst Chinese food in history and they don't care. They have a captive audience of people who have no choices other than hamburgers, worst Mexican and chicken places. Shrimp Lo Mien is not noodles smothered in soy sauce with 3 shrimp and no vegetables. And use skinny lumpia rolls as an Egg/Spring roll. I would give negative stars if possible. Just received a delivery order from them of Shrimp Egg Foo Young and the Gravy is sour/spoiled! I called them to get a refund and was advised that there was nothing that they could do considering that the food had been touched. This has been our second time at Hot Wok and our last. When I went there to place my order I saw the guy up front that runs the front scratching his head around the kitchen. I called in an order, the order was placed with the intentions of them delivering. After an hour passed, I called to check on the status of my order. At that time they told me that they do not deliver. I'm not sure why they didn't inform me of that when I called initially. I would not recommend this restaurant! I have witnessed poor customer service here and experienced it firsthand today. Upon arriving, I verified with the cashier that the rice I ordered was white fried rice and not the yellow rice they typically use for fried rice, she assured me it was and referred me to my receipt which read...(Plain white rice). When I got home, the rice was not fried as asked but just white rice. I called to let the cashier know that in spite of what was on the receipt and what she confirmed, the rice was not fried. She put her manager on the phone who advised me there was really no difference (between white fried rice and yellow). The difference is most yellow rice is made with saffron which changes the taste. None the less, I explained to her that I verified the rice was fried before I left and it was not. My husband went in to ask for a refund or to have his order corrected and the cook said he already cooked it. It took 3 minutes going round and round before the older Asian man agreed to make the rice as requested. This is not fine dining...I know, but that does not mean customer service is forfeited. This restaurant leaves out part of your order, and when you contact them in regards to getting the item missed because you ordered it through a food delivery service they tell you they can't help you. Just moved to the Oakleaf area- was really hoping to find a great Chinese restaurant for our Sunday night tradition...unfortunately this is not the one- tried Hot Wok 2xs now: Mongolian Beef sauce is very thin & black peppery- I am used to a thinker brown sauce, and the meat was chewy. My husbands' go-to is Generals chicken- both times it has been just 'ok' honestly not much flavor really. Avoid this place unless you want over cooked, dried out or old food! Ordered a large Shrimp Low Mein entree, a large Orange Chicken entree and the Pu Pu Platter which was a waste of my family's $30. The Pu Pu Platter had over fried and completely DRIED out chicken wings, skewered beef strips and wontons with only the ribs palatable. It seems as if the frying oil may have not been changed recently causing the fried meats to have that characteristic burnt color and odd flavor, ugh! The shrimp low Mein was very dark, 95% noodles with only a few pieces of tiny salad sized shrimp, not worth the price at all. The carry out container was sloppily filled with sauce slathered on it. The orange chicken, oh my goodness, was old, dried out, over fried, tough and clumped together as if it was leftovers. They knew this food was substandard as they packed it up. My daughter's chicken - that came with her chicken lo mein - tasted very fishy...like BAD fish. The vegetables were all soggy and tasted like each other. Even the pre-packaged fortune cookies were stale. Couple all this with taking an hour and twenty minutes to get to the house - that's about five minutes away. Being that it is real close to the house and that there are not any other decent Chinese take outs in our neighborhood, we order from here when we want Chinese. We did order for delivery once and it took them over an hour for them to deliver our food. So, if you can just pick it up. They always had our orders ready within 15 - 20 minutes when ordered for take out. read more

The only thing I have to complain about is how ridiculously difficult it is to place an order over the phone. They routinely forget someone is on hold, then if you call back it's almost a guarantee you won't get through because their phone is always busy. I can appreciate that they are a busy place because the food is great, but get some more phone lines. Please. And hire someone specifically for the register, especially around dinner time. I've been here a few times already and I have finally decided to write a review for this place. This place is great. Food is spicy when you ask them for it to be. And not just that cheap spice you barely taste. I mean they make it really spicy!!! Believe me. I had the pepper steak with onions and white rice and asked for it to be spicy. Food was excellent and spicy. It was well cooked and seasoned real nice. If you're in the mood for some Chinese food and want it spicy, this is the place to stop by. My family and I order from this place all the time. The food is always excellent and cooked to order. We get lo mein most of the time and I like mine spicy and they deliver my request. I've never had anything overcooked or undercooked from here. The fried dumplings are excellent and the lo mein is excellent. We've had take out as well as delivery with no problems. read more
