I needed to be in town for a couple of days of meetings and I usually stay at the Marriott Magnificent Mile, but chose this hotel this time due to price. I will say I actually enjoyed this hotel slightly more than the Marriott which is nearby. Checking in was easy, quick, and very friendly. There is so much that is within walking distance from here. My room had a beautiful river view. The room looked decent, even though it didn't have all the modern USB charging and streaming TV features that so many properties have these days. I really hate when they don't have Pluto TV on the TV in the rooms, especially since it's free. The other gripe was that they didn't come refresh the room the next morning after my first night, but fortunately I had enough towels to last me the next day. They did refresh it on my second day though. They have a nice lounge on the main level which offers a full breakfast, as well as water and soda all the time. I might stay here the next time I'm in town. read more

Great experience! I stayed here for work recently and its location was super convenient for that (although pricey!). The hotel itself has kind of a retro aesthetic with the checkered bathroom floor and green walls. I stayed in a king bed room and it was HUGE! I loved the floor to ceiling windows and high ceilings in it. The bed was really nice and super comfortable- I was asleep within 5 min each night. That being said, the noise level is kinda all over the place. The first night was very quiet, but the second night was just constant sirens. Obviously that is not the hotels fault, but the sirens did wake me up a few times. The bathroom itself while pretty, was okay. The toilet flush is kinda finicky- you have to hold it down but if you hold it down for too long then it runs. The shower also had bad water pressure. What should be a 5 minute shower was 15. Luckily I wasn't in a rush but it is kind of annoying. The room overall was good for its purpose, I had plenty of space and even a fridge! However, no microwave. What's the point of a fridge if you can't reheat your food?! The hotel overall was really nice. I had lounge access and had a great breakfast in there (bfast burrito pictured!). The hotel gym was also nice, a bit small but it serves its purpose. The staff was very helpful and friendly, they were able to give me recommendations and help me out. Very close to riverwalk and about 0.5mi away from Starbucks reserve and magnificent mile so great location. Great location, we could see the river from our window. We walked everywhere from here including the shopping areas and the museums. The bed was super uncomfortable, hard a rock, so sleeping was rough. The noise levels were all over the place. First night we could hear sirens throughout the night, while the second and third night were quieter. They DO NOT offer a continental breakfasts. You can order room service and they give you a $25 credit. That sounds ok until you realize that they charge you an $11 delivery fee and then you have to tip the person who brings your breakfast. My bill was almost $50 so the $25 credit is kind of a joke. read more

I flew in on New Years Eve, and happily Hubby & I mapped our way to the hotel quite easily. Reading the other most recent negative reviews of this hotel really confused me because our experience was very good. First off, the greeting from our valet attendant, Demetrius, was phenomenal! He was friendly and funny and so pleasant! Daniel at the front desk was also very kind & helpful so check-in was simple and quick, and with our Marriott status we were upgraded to a large suite on the top floor. The room was clean, very spacious and very comfortable. One thing to be said is that the elevators are a tad finicky. It doesn't easily read the key cards and was always the source of a little laugh with whoever was in the elevator with us. As for the rooms... considering the room size, there wasn't very much shelf or surface space, and the room very much lacked mirrors (something that helps me out when I'm trying to get ready and not share the bathroom with Hubby!). Also, the next morning on New Years Day the Club Breakfast finished at 10am (early for us considering the night we had), so we tried a restaurant called Yolk physically connected through the hotel lobby... review forthcoming... All in all the experience was very pleasant... our stay was very comfortable, and the hotel was modern & well decorated. We will definitely stay here again and this time I WILL be on time for breakfast!!! :) Pros: - easy-to-find, convenient location in downtown Chicago - very kind, thoughtful & professional staff - clean, large room (16th floor) with a nice city view - comfortable king bed & nice pillows - bar & restaurant located in the hotel (no need to go into the cold!) I was in town for a conference, which was being held in this hotel's ballroom. The conference coordinators negotiated a great rate for conference attendees, especially based on the room I was given at check-in. I'm still trying to figure out what quirk in the matrix causes me to get grand, overly-large rooms when I travel solo, but the tiny, cramped and uncomfortable rooms when I travel with my husband, haha. At any rate, I was on a high floor with a view of the city. The room was, as mentioned, way too big for just me, with two beds, a full-sized desk, a reading chair and a bathroom that was bigger than some Marriott hotel rooms I've stayed in recently. The bed was comfortable, and I slept in the one that was beneath the room's air vent because I like to be freezing when I sleep. The desk chair wasn't great, it kept rotating to the right whenever I put my feet up, and I couldn't figure out how to stop the rotation. It made it difficult to stay centered when on video calls with my team in San Diego, or to be aligned when trying to work on projects. It also wasn't all that comfortable, but I don't really expect hotels to splurge on desk chairs for their rooms. The bathroom was spacious (understatement) and shower had great water pressure. I was able to spread out on the counter, lining up all the lotions, potions and notions needed for my daily rituals, and never had to worry about something falling off or getting knocked over. I'm a Marriott Bonvoy member for quite some time now. I will be 7 years gold elite at the end of the year, and will have platinum status for 2025. Their portfolio of hotels is quite extensive and ranges from luxury to budget choices. Regardless of which level I've chosen I've never been dissatisfied with the quality of service and condition of the rooms . My stay at the Hotel Chicago Downtown Autograph Collection this past weekend was a big disappointment I have stayed at the Autograph Collection Hotel Chicago Downtown at least 6 times in the past 2 years. The condition of this room was poor. There was peeling paint on the ceiling, worn furniture, black mold in the bathroom, stains on the walls and a broken light fixture above one of the beds. In addition there was no alarm Clock, or radio or charging block. There was only one coffee cup and only one coffee pack. Needless to say with all the other choices in Chicago I will not be returning. read more

This hotel will get the job done if you're a business traveler... No frills, nothing fancy, nothing exceptional, and aside from the bathroom being just a tad bit too dated for my liking, no real major complaints. I would describe it as a small step above your nicer Holiday Inns. I was honestly disappointed though because I expected more from a hotel branded as part of Marriott's "Autograph Collection." There isn't really anything about the room that I can call "luxury." And for the price per night, you can get far, FAR better value at one of the many hotels within walking distance from this location. I was, however, pleasantly surprised with the bar/restaurant conveniently located in the lobby. The bartenders were super friendly and generous with the drinks, and the menu items are actually priced really reasonably, and everything I tried, including the burger (perfectly cooked and perfectly sized), was satisfying, filling, and delicious. I ended up dining here several times when I stayed here for work during the winter months when I didn't want to venture outside into freezing cold, and I dont think I regretted it...even with the many dining options in Chicago. read more

I was so lucky to have the chance to stay at Hotel Chicago, one of the esteemed Marriott "Autograph Collection" hotels. Their welcome email explained that they would strive to tell me a unique story through the room, dining, and drinks. That story was actually just your basic no-frills downtown Chicago hotel with a smallish room, a basic lobby, pictures of Chicago buildings on the walls, and no free wi-fi. The overzealous marketing aside, the Hotel Chicago was completely fine, especially for the price I paid. I needed a clean room for the night, and that's what I got. The staff was kind and helpful, especially when the heater went berserk and we had to change rooms. I'd set the temp to 66, but when we returned after the symphony concert, the temperature was 92! I didn't know it could even get that hot. They didn't have anymore king-sized rooms, but whatever. The staff helped me move to a different room, and it was just fine. When you think "Autograph Collection," you might be tempted to think there would be nicer-than-normal toiletries provided, but what you get are bottles of shampoo and soap bolted to the wall with a label that says something like "this bottle is sealed." Nothing says luxury like signage that effectively says "don't even think about unscrewing the lid and taking extra soap home. This made me curious, so I actually tried to unscrew the pump from the bottle, and yeah - it's sealed! This has no bearing on quality, but I found it amusing. When you think "Autograph Collection," you might be thinking of luxurious towels or special beds, but nope - they've got the standard thin, scratchy towels and a normal bed. Again, it's completely fine for the price, but the marketing is just silly. The building is relatively short compared to what's around it, so don't come here for the views. My room had a view of the side of the House of Blues and not much else. They have an interesting way of handling the $25/night "destination fee." You pay it no matter what, but it acts as a $25 voucher for food or drinks (or a range of other things that you probably won't use). Hey - at least you can turn it into a cocktail or a room service order. And, because my room at a problem with the heater, they just refunded the destination fee altogether. That was super cool of the front desk guy. Overall, it's a decent hotel in a great location. If you have reasonable expectations, it's a fine choice. I really appreciated the staff, and even if the room was unimpressive, the staff left a lasting impression. read more

I came to visit my friend on Friday as she was staying at this hotel as part of the Marriott. It's a no frills hotel, you get to be central and in the heart of everything. It's not extremely lavish. The view of her room was of the Westin hotel, and you could kind of see the Chicago river. The room didn't come with bags for the small trash bins. I called the front desk, they picked up right away and sent someone up with the bags however they're probably 15 gallon trash bags. My friend did like that she was able to get her room early at 11 and check out late at 4. We also hit up the bar downstairs in the lobby, and the bartenders were really friendly. I asked for a Moscow mule that wasn't on the menu, he made it for me and recommended a seasonal ginger beer that sounded fun so I ordered it. My friend did a vodka soda, and we also shared an order of truffle fries. When we checked on our truffle fries, the bartender did admit that it wasn't taking really long for just fries. She said she checked on it for us, and reassured us it'll be out in a minute and it did. The aioli sauce was phenomenal. I'd totally come back just for the bar alone. Definitely come check it out for yourself, I'd recommend it and come back. read more

My friends and I stayed here for a girls weekend. We absolutely loved the hotel. Close to just about everything! You really don't even need to leave the area because the House of Blues is across the driveway. Smith & Wollensky is 25 steps away where you can dine right on the river. 20 minute walk to Nordstrom and a 5 minute Uber to Zara and all things high end shopping on Michigan Ave. The hotel has valet parking for $79 with in and out privileges. It was a couple bucks more than what I found with Hero Spot. Coffee maker in the room which is always nice in the morning. Room service is EXPENSIVE! But I get it The reason I didn't give 5 stars..The only complaint we have with the room is the bathroom tile. It made us spin especially after having a few drinks. Creates an illusion of the room slanting.. maybe it's because it was a handicapped bathroom‍ just a little outdated. Special mention for Demetrius who ran the Valet. My goodness what a treat to meet someone who loves their job. He went above and beyond helping us with our luggage and car. He remembered us when we checked out and just took great care of us. We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Chicago Downtown. I took the orange line in from midway & the hotel is about a 5 minute walk from State/Lake. This hotel was easy to find as its by the corn cob parking garage & house of blues. The location was ideal for taking in everything we wanted to do while visiting. Quick walk to the river & many great bars/restaurants. Our room was clean. Mini fridge was perfect for keeping drinks cold in our room. The bed was comfortable. Shower pressure was good. Provided body wash, shampoo & conditioner smelt heavenly. We loved having a cocktail at the hotel bar every night... can't beat a $9 old fashioned! Club Maxwell (concierge lounge) is located in the hallway to the right of the bar. Access for Club Maxwell is given to ambassador, titanium & platinum rewards members. Breakfast is served weekdays 7-10am & weekends 7-11am. The breakfast selection is pretty standard... eggs, sausage, French toast, breakfast potatoes, fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee & juice. There are multiple refrigerators with bottled water & Pepsi products. This hotel is definitely at the top of our list for future trips to Chicago. Pros: *central downtown makes walking to major attractions easy *executive lounge available for Bonvoy members *hotel bar with a decent food menu *next to House of Blues and Riverwalk Cons: *Atmosphere, service, rooms were mediocre *The bed was uncomfortable *No room fridge - need to call to get a mobile fridge *$15 per night surcharge, bonvoy members can use as credit towards hotel bar/food *The executive lounge only serves breakfast until 10. *No views because everything built around the hotel is taller Overall, it's not one of my faves. The nightly rate seems consistently affordable compared to other hotels in the area. We liked this hotel. I was able to get early check-in and check-out with no problem. I had a quiet room on the 8th floor overlooking the House of Blues. The bed was good and the sheets were soft. There is a refrigerator, coffee maker, and a fan option on the thermostat. I like that there are full size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles in the shower The only negative was that I could not connect to the internet. This is rare but it has happened before in some Marriott hotels. It works in other hotels and everywhere else so maybe it is something with their settings. When the authorization pops up for you to connect, it is just blank. I can connect to Facebook and my email but nothing else, strange. For a longer stay, I would need better internet but for a couple of days it was fine. read more

The rooms are good size with large bathrooms. Very good water pressure which is always nice. The workout facility is in the lower level, and you do have to show a vax card to get access. My wife and I have spent many nights at this address over the years. First when it was the House of Blues Hotel (which was just awesome). Then as Hotel Sax (which was awesome). Now as Hotel Chicago (not as awesome). We stay here based on its location. We love this part of town. It's close to shopping and great food spots. All well within walking distance. The staff here is spectacular. Every single staff member is beyond gracious and genuine. The rates here are very reasonable. The room we had was adequately sized and comfortable. Now for the downside, which to some may be nitpicking. One nightstand has five power outlets. The other side has none. Lighting. The overall lighting was a bit dim. Now for us men, not a huge deal. But for the women? That's a downside. Another downside was the lack of shelf space and lighting in the bathroom (again for the women and what's needed to do your makeup, according to my wife). So items that you'd normally place on a shelf, you cannot as the shelf does not exist. The shower was a bit odd, as half of it was behind a wall. Oh, and the housekeeping staff missed a razor that a previous guest left behind. While again we really like the location, I can't say for sure if we will come back. The staff is fantastic. The detractions though I think will outweigh those positives. read more

Always a big fan of traveling to Chicago, great food, sights, and events. Hotel Chicago is a great place to stay for any of those events. Located in the Heart of Chicago right alongside the river and next to Mag Mile. Plan for an hour transit from the airport but that's typical for Chicago. The hotel itself is very accessible and easy to find, with a very interesting facade. Hotel itself has a decent size lobby, not huge but adequately sized for Chicago. Staff were professional and courteous, got into the room quickly. Lounge was open and had good selection of complimentary soft drinks and snacks, better than many other hotels. Rooms are very well sized, modern, and usually has a decent view. Sound isolation is great, and very easy to get a good night's rest. Bathroom is well appointed and comfortable. Wi-fi and services work great. Gym is in the basement - not my favorite but will get the job done. read more

Got a pretty good deal at Hotel Chicago on Expedia for our two night stay. It is nicely located downtown right next to the river. The Yolk restaurant is located in the hotel and you can add your name to the waiting list through Yelp. Also the House of Blues is right in front if you want to catch some live music. The pros: The room was very comfortable and the bath room was a very roomy. The mattress like most places wasn't too soft but he pillows were very comfortable. Modern hotel, and kept up very nice. The cons: If your room is facing the House of Blues. You can hear people out on the street. We were way up on the 10th floor and I was awakened up in the middle of the night by people yelling out on the street. I think the echos carry from the way the buildings are situated. Also the windows are not that sound proof. Also being located right of State St. there are a lot of sirens from emergency vehicles going down this main road. read more

TLDR: Sleek and modern hotel in a great convenient location to stores and restaurants. Only downside is parking will cost you but there are cheaper overnight parking garages and alternatives. Stayed here for a romantic weekend with my boyfriend and it was a great stay! The hotel is very modern and classy and the atmosphere is quiet and cozy, perfect to get away just for a bit. First, checking in was super easy and the front desk staff is so professional and kind. They told us about the underground market that is conveniently connected to the underground portion of the hotel. Also, the hotel is connected to a breakfast place called Yolk, which also had really good breakfast items. After we checked in, we headed to our room which had ample space and very tall windows. Our room had everything we needed like robes, hotel toiletries, and streaming services on the tv such as HBO Max, Netflix, Hulu, etc. and the bed was the comfiest bed ever. Only issue was convenient parking. If you can pay for the daily parking, then by all means go for it. But we had to park at a separate garage about 10 minutes walking distance to get a cheaper alternative. The hotel is conveniently located on the Magnificent Mile. This made it perfect for Uber rides and walking to nearby clubs and bars at night! Uber rides to stores or restaurants were very short which ultimately saves you a few bucks. Also, the House of Blues is just a few feet away which made it a nice stop to see while we stayed in the hotel. Overall, the price was worth the luxuries and made me wish we could've stayed longer. read more

Obviously not the worst hotel in Chicago because it's not a no tell motel, but for the $250 a night.... It's the worst hotel in that price range. If this place can inconvenience you, they will. My two might stay feels like 2 weeks, I can't wait to leave. The rooms are outdated, no view to speak of and the place just feels cheap. The desk is chipped on the sides, the door is uneven on the fridge compartment, all stuff that would be fine if this was $70-$100 a night but this place bulls itself and prices it as an upscale hotel but it's far from it. Heck my key card barely works cause the locks and elevator key is so old. Lastly, I can't even get food delivered. $250 a night and I was told by the front desk clerk I had to come down in my pajamas and get it!!!!!! Are you kidding me??? I work for a Fortune 10 company, I am here on business so I'm not paying anything out if my own pocket but it's the principle of billing a low class hotel as high end is just wrong. Trust me I'll be telling anyone who listens never to stay here and I'm going to ding Marriott as well since they now own it. read more

We stayed for a long July 4th weekend during Covid. They took all the amenities out during the pandemic. There was no coffee maker or refrigerator in our room. There was no maid service for daily cleaning. When we checked in, there was no one working the valet stand, we had to go inside and ask what we do with our car. They wanted me to just leave it out front. I didn't feel like that was very safe for my car to sit there unattended. Luckily, we got a special promotion that they were offering where our room included the valet. Otherwise valet is $76 a night alone. I thought the hallways were extremely dark and gloomy. However, it is in a good location, we could walk to Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park. I would only come back here if the price was right. read more

Chose this hotel out of sheer convenience, as it was walking distance to some business meetings. Our group was also considering the Westin (literally located right across the street), but our local co-worker recommended this place instead for the supposedly more modern vibe. Not sure if they really delivered on those expectations, considering my room didn't feel very modern, but moreso retro and overall kind of plain with some patterned wallpaper. I stayed in a more upgraded room for a higher price, so I had a nice view of the river and the city. I gave this place an extra star because Trevor at the front desk was gracious enough to give me VIP access to Club Maxwell, which was open 24/7 with bottled water and soda, plus featured free breakfast with coffee, tea, fruit, a hot food bar, cereal, yogurt, and more every morning. Overall, this definitely wasn't the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in, but wasn't the worst. I would say the ambiance was a tad better than average, but definitely go for the upgrade if you want a nice view! read more

Bed bugs and management doesn't follow through. They refused to properly clean the new room I was moved into after the bed bug incident. Used bar of soap in the shower and even after they had "cleaned" it, they left the used soap bar in the shower. Threw away all my stuff, not carrying critters with me, and Marriott thinks 10k is appropriate for my experience. read more

Check in was smooth, I was given no option but to be charged a $15 local fee or something. But readying the description of it, it was a $15 credit towards food and drink ( never got, I only got a $10 credit allegedly), covered wifey and a free pass to some sort of exhibit . But here's the thing, if I come to the city with a plan of things I want to accomplish, it's not feasible to use the free pass, but I'm charged anyway. As an elite Marriott member wifi is a perk, so it's essential another way to get money. Which I'm sure once people get feed up enough will result in a class action. I'll be apart of. I was told I would get both a $10 food/drink credit AND 1k points for both stays. I only got 1k worth of points, and the credit wasn't applied considering the food charge I paid. Completely dropped the ball, I didn't have lounge access I asked for on my card. Which I needed since there's no water in room, not a big oversight but being hungover and needing it would have made for a smoother crawl down stairs. The location is nice, interior room decor is odd, however I believe the beetlejuice black and white bathroom tile might be on par for all brand locations. We had an excellent experience staying at the Hotel Chicago Downtown this past weekend. We flew in on a super early flight, and were delighted to find that our room was ready for check-in at 9am, which was a unique perk we definitely weren't expecting! The rooms are on par with expectations: spacious enough for a hotel of this caliber, well equipped with reasonably new amenities in excellent working order, and a modern 'polished' ambiance. The location is also perfect for anything in River North or the Loop, and right by public transportation for getting anywhere else around the city. I had an event at the Hyatt, but I wanted a Bonvoy property so this was the closest I could find in my price range (under $300). This is a lovely hotel that shares a driveway with the House of Blues, making it slightly hard for a Lyft/Uber driver to find, FYI. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the Hyatt, in case you are doing the same thing I did and trying to grab as many SPG points as possible. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the bean and I walked down to the Drake in about 15 minutes. The hotel lobby is stunning and they have a very nice first floor bar that stays open pretty late. Also, the front desk staff is top notch and extremely friendly. My room felt fancy and upscale. It had an extremely comfortable king bed that I never wanted to leave every morning. I loved the decor of my entire room, it felt different, in a good way and not just like another standard hotel. My room had a great view where I could partly see the river. The room temp wasn't perfect, it was too warm for me, but I simply opened the window to make it a little cooler. I did hear some traffic, but nothing that woke me up during the night. I loved the old school look of the bathroom with the white and black floors, they amazingly pulled together this perfect look and I'd love to replicate it at my house. Stayed here at least four times and enjoyed every visit. Lobby is nice and has a cool bar and seating area. The concierge lounge (for Bonvoy members) has a nice breakfast spread. All four times I was there the same woman was staffing breakfast. Wish I got her name so I could give her a shout out. She was so nice, professional and welcoming! The rooms (I've stayed in three different types) are quite nice and what I expected for an Autograph brand. read more

The location is the only thing that good about this hotel. The rooms need to be renovated as wallpaper was tearing off, the tub was extremely old/dirty, shower was squeaking. There are hotels with better views out there, as well. Not worth the $322/night. That said it's close to the best part of the city. Would not book again given the price, was expecting a better experience. read more

Ok, so maybe I should have check the ratings before I make the booking, but I was trying to stay near my colleague. So I checked in to this room, and I'm just looking around for lights and I find this big floor mirror behind the bed side table that is loose. Like it's just loose on the floor with nothing holding it. I asked the reception and they sent 2 people to look at it and they all swear they are all the same. Like you mean all of your room has broken, unsecured floor mirrors?!?! Either they have horrible and irresponsible management or they have poor customer service skills and is dying to make money. Literally like this is a joke. I would not come here esp since I have small children. There's so many options in town, avoid this one. Also the quality is below the bars of a regular autograph. read more

We booked this hotel as a Marriott Gold Member. They usually do a really good job. Price was good but maybe too good as valet parking was near $80 and not much other parking around. The rooms were above average for Chicago rooms. I was bummed that as a Gold Member I never get an upgrade...so on the 14th floor we did not see much of the river. I did appreciate the 2 pm late check out! read more
