Some of the reviews for this place had me scared but the room was perfectly nice. Sure, the furnishings looked a little dated but everything was clean and in working order (which is more than I can say about the Holiday Inn we'd been at the night before). Well this is an absolute disappointment. The cliental is sketchy and the "beachfront" or "ocean view" doesn't exist. There is a public parking lot between the hotel and the beach so don't even bother paying for the ocean view unless you enjoy watching people drive around. The walls are paper thin. I have very much enjoyed listening to my neighbors baby cry all night in between the dog barking on the other side and don't let me forget that when the toilet is flushed upstairs, I get to hear the water running through the pipes. I thought I might have been mellow from my contact high thanks to the smell of weed wafting through the air freely in abundance but no. I instead am worried about my car being broken into since my "resort fee" obviously does not include security and again the cliental is questionable. Quite honestly this place sucks and the entire island sucks. Why the hell would you want to stay on this dump of a beach where people are trashy and it's smells like a dumpster fire. read more

I start this as I sit here at the hotel and after receiving major attitude from front desk and maintenance's sarcastic tone. I called down this morning around 1030 to let them know the screws were coming out of the door hinge causing the door not to open unless it's picked up. They immediately came up to fix the door. Upon returning around 330 to the room we found the door hinge completely removed and their tools still in room. When we called down to office we were told they couldn't fix today and could move us to another room. NO! Maintenance came back to remove their tools and told us it couldn't be fixed today. Location: Convenient location for beach and downtown Tybee access. Hotel is not right on the beach, rather it is separated from the beach by a public parking lot. Public parking lot was kind of loud, but we stayed over the 4th of July, so not sure if this is typical of the area or not. View of 4th of July fireworks were awesome, though, since they launch off of the pier. Room: Beds were very comfortable. Room was pretty standard, nothing special. Some things were outdated, but they are in the process of updating a lot of things from the sounds of it. We would have appreciated a few more chairs on the balcony. Overall: Expensive for what was offered. We were able to get four nights for the price of three, which helped, but still not worth the price. read more

We stayed here for two nights and had a good time. Like other reviews say, the bathrooms are in need of an update but the owners seem to have that in the plans. Our biggest complaint was the sliding glass door didn't lock and we didn't see a stop bar. Even though we were on the 2nd floor, it still doesn't make you feel secure knowing your sliding door is unlocked. The room was clean. A/C worked great. Front desk very friendly. I don't know why people complain about the parking lot. We had a partial ocean view room and we loved the view and all the people-watching you can do from the balcony. I'm sorry but this place is way over priced, we stayed one night and paid $420. Went down to the pool with our two free drink tokens, but all you could get was the cooler drinks (Not a beer person but hey, free alcohol) BUT THEN I ordered a double captain and coke and it's was $20! Which I thought I was trippin so just to see I went back and got another one plus a pina colada and my total was $35! Money isn't an issue but when I bought the whole bottle with the purchase of one drink, I mean come on! Then me and my buddy went up there and paid $20 for two shots that barely filled a shot glass full! THEN, there was cockroaches slap boxing in the halfway haha this place isn't worth the money what so ever. Maybe $150-$200 a night at the most and the only reason I give it that price is because they do have decent beds, tv, and the added in beach chairs and pool. read more

My husband and I took a weekend get away to see the island lighthouses which was beautiful. My time at Hotel Tybee was super nice. I enjoyed staying there for a few days. Location was perfect to the pier, shops, bars and restaurants. All walking distance! Also the beach was amazing. Love the tiki bar and pool as well. Hotel Tybee: I booked 3 nights at $400 per night for an ocean view room a few months ago to surprise my wife for our anniversary. During the booking I should have been alarmed when the web page identified this as non-refundable. The hotel failed to identify an event on the island that weekend called "Orange Crush" otherwise I would have rescheduled. Since the money was non-refundable, I convinced myself that it would still be worth it. I was wrong! During check in at 4:00 pm, the staff produced wrist bands informing us that they had hired additional security staff to support the venue. Ok I thought, the bands would prevent other people from being admitted. Again, I was wrong!! Our relaxing vacation went downhill from there. Noise: People were parked in the hotel parking lot right next to the hired security, music blaring against each other trying to see which car can out blast the other. People crowding on the hotel patios yelling back and forth to the people on the street. By the looks of the number of people standing on the patios, there were more occupants than the normal rooms could accommodate. Most were not wearing the wrist bands. Where was the management?? I finally called the front desk around 9:00 pm to ask if security could do something about the volume of the music, the desk informed me that the ocean side parking area below my room is public property and I could call the police if felt it was too loud?!?! Isn't that your job?? Inside the hotel the hallway acted as an echo chamber. Zero sound insulation in these rooms!! Doors slamming shut, people yelling in the hallways, pounding on the doors looking for friends. It finally quieted down around 2:00 am on Friday night and 4:00 am on Saturday. I was thankful when found a pair of ear plugs in my travel bag so I could finally sleep. Amenities: Found out the first morning the hotel does not offer a simple amenity such as breakfast!! Unless you are new to hotel management this is a common practiced in other hotels such as Best Western, Comfort Inns and Drury Inns not to mention the $130 a night Holiday Inn Express or the Hampton chains. For the money charged this is unacceptable!! The Grand View room photographs on the web show a beautiful sunrise scene with people eating breakfast. I guess that photo must have been taken in Hotel Tybee's prime because the Grand View room was inaccessible and locked up. Safety: With all the items mentioned above, it would have been very uncomfortable to venture outside during certain times while mobs of people roamed in and out of the hotel with Securities only presence in the parking lot. Security was absent in the building!! While trying to enjoy our ocean view Saturday evening above the public parking lot I observed a male draw a pistol out of his pack to show his friend. What concerned me was while showing it off was he was looking up at the patios. For what reason I don't know, but we were not going to find out. I pulled my wife inside the room, pulled the curtains and cursed myself for the non-refundable clause. We should have left this place!! After party: Sunday morning the hallways and parking lot looked like a trash dump with garbage laying everywhere, cigarette butts littering the carpet, sticky floors from spilt beverages. Monday morning, we were glad to leave!! Responsibility: I hold the management responsible: * High priced rooms that provided no amenities other than the view! * Rooms that have no sound insulation and shake when the doors are slammed. * Event information not posted on your booking web page! * Management not reacting to changing conditions. * Management not concerned for the safety and comfort of all their guests. * Front desk staff not willing to take control of the noise situation. * Front desk staff isolated from their guests. * Roving security not utilized. Summary: Hotel Tybee did not intend to produce any memorable experiences or amenities other than providing a view. I do not recommend them, nor will I be back!! read more

Stayed at this hotel for two nights. It is adequate however it's a $79.00 a night hotel not $120. They are trying to bring it back up to a better standard. Like I said it is adequate. Was clean new furniture however sliding door hardly worked and the bathroom door wouldn't close no fan in bathroom. The grounds around the hotel were dirty and in need of maintenance. My daughter and I were here recenty and after staying there rseveral times ,before. we were extrenely disappointed at the conditions. We were assigned room 312 and the commode was loose with black mold around he bottom with a strong waste smell. First impression: BOGO (buy two nights, get one free) is a great deal!! Staff is very nice and helpful. Building is very old and dated. Fourth floor view is great. The room: The website photos are extremely misleading, as other reviewers have stated. From the website photos, we were expecting a modernly furnished, luxurious, clean room. In reality, it is an old building with dated furniture. The middle of the mattress sinks in, and the bedding is pilly and not hotel quality. The website photos do not show the conjoining room door that is latched by a rickety slide bolt. It is paper thin, which allows every little sound from he neighboring room to seep through. In defense of our neighbors, they were not being too loud; the insulation is just non-existent. This noise issue caused sleep to be quite difficult. We complained to the front desk the first night. When we heard our neighbor's phone ring and heard every appropriately-volumed word he said back to them, we realized it was a door issue, not a neighbor issue. For this price, they could make MUCH-NEEDED upgrades. I recommend that you pay a little more and go elsewhere. read more

The registration process was quick & easy and the staff was enthusiastic telling us about the property. Our room was updated, smelled nice, and was very clean. The beach view room was the way to go and we spent a while on the balcony just relaxing. I appreciate the large fridge and desk area. While there is a public parking lot behind the building we didn't have any problems and it was not busy at all. My only suggestion would be adding a few towels for us to take to the beach. read more

Everything advertised about this place makes it look like a true oasis... 2 pools, tiki bar, luxury sheets, blah blah. We had a horrible experience from the get-go here. Our check-in took forever because the lady working the front desk was apparently new. We stood there and argued with her about our rate, which changed 3 times until finally she figured things out on the computer. They advertise a room rate, but then want to charge extra for pool access and parking... endearingly calling it their destination fee. Who is ok with paying an extra $25 PER DAY PER ADULT to use amenities that are included at every other hotel?! Absolutely stupid. Then in the morning, we return to the front desk to figure out why we were charged 2 times on our account. The manager was clueless and argued that we were mistaken until she realized we were right. She apologized, but did nothing to amend the situation aside from refund the charge. Our room was ok aside from unclean carpeting, it smelled like dirty socks, and had a small bathroom. The beds were comfortable, but no "luxury sheets" - ours were pilling bad and worn out. We decided to check out a day early and go stay at a different hotel. The guy at front desk was busy and asked no questions about why. There is a write-up about how this hotel has been updated, all the awesome amenities offered, making it sound like a perfect vacation spot... It's a joke when the customer is charged extra for every piece of that on top of the regular room rate... And the people at the front desk have horrible customer service, every single one of them. The hotel was a bit outdated, that was the only negative, but hey, you can't expect the Hilton for the budget friendly price. We had no issue with checking in. Our room was always clean and cool. The bedding was clean and comfortable. We always had clean towels. They made up for the outdated appearance with service. All the staff were friendly and courteous. The best part, we were only 100 yards from the beach and could hear the ocean. The hotel is in a prime location, within walking distance to the beach as well as shops and some great food. Also, the hotel had two nice clean pools, but who needs the pool when you are this close to the beach. My next stay will be on the top floor so I can see the beautiful island sunrises. First trip to Tybee Island, and it was great! Hotel Tybee is walking distance to several really good restaurants and drink spots (Breakfast Club, Hammerheads, AJs, Wet Willies). The staff, especially the bartender at the Tiki pool bar, we're so friendly. She was glad to look up drinks and make anything we asked for. Location to the beach was perfect, too. Only disappointment as the on-site breakfast at La Dolce Vita. $10 buffet of undercooked hash browns, over cooked bacon and other bland or gross options. Take the short walk to The Breakfast Club instead! Otherwise, we were very happy with the hotel, and our room. It was clean, with a big tv, Mia-sized frig for all our cooler food and super comfy bed. Like all hotels here, it is old. You have to walk through public beach parking to get to the beach/ocean but it is closer than most. We spent 5 days here. We hung the go not enter one day. We were stopped by housekeeping and asked did we need service, we asked for towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and coffee cups. Only 1 day were we not in our room so it was cleaned. By this I mean they made the bed and emptied the trash. They NEVER left us soap, coffee cups, shampoo, or towels without us asking. Hotel registration is in a separate building so it isn't easy to get anything. Calling the front desk is impossible. They never answered. They will only leave you one towel and one washcloth everyday and you are at the beach. The ice bucket was gross. Fairly noisy room. We would probably stay again just because of location. read more

My husband and I just recently took our two year old on her first beach trip in a hotel and we found ourselves wanting to be at the Tiki Bar with her more than the actual beach! Mainly because one of the bartenders, Gage, was such an awesome person! Our daughter took to him right away and he took to her as well, they became best buds. We even got to learn his schedule and made sure to be there when he was working. Our visit was so awesome the first time we wound up coming back the next weekend, and he had a lot to do with it. First impression is everything. I saw that this hotel was renovated 5 years ago so we thought everything was updated. Not the case. Once we arrived on property we should have turned around! People at the reception desk were very nice and friendly. The check in area is not in the hotel, it's in the parking lot. Litter all over the property, dirty entrance, carpets in the hall have stains. During out stay the hotel hall wasn't vacuumed. Elevator dirty. The room was filthy! Door had stains. We entered and saw popcorn on the floor, stains on the floor. No screen on the sliding door. Wasn't aware that view to the beach included view to the public parking lot as well. Hair all over the bathroom floor and shower, the sink faucet barely had water coming out, no fan in the bathroom, the phone had crusty film on it. The beds had hair all over it. I asked that the beds be made again, and again there was hair the bed. Stains on the beds, stains on towels. I had to ask 3 times for someone to come and clean. I got attitude when someone finally came to clean. Not a place for families. read more

I hate to do this, but I feel I need to...sorry Brett. We have been coming to Tybee eight years in a row and have always stayed at this hotel, except for the last two years. We thought we would try it since it has been remodeled. Here were my problems for the price: check in was supposed to be at 4pm, but was an hour later (but parking pass granted), no carts available anywhere (we were told to check the lobby...none), ice machine empty, mold on ceiling, air conditioner cuts off when you open the door (I understand why, but still strange because if you don't close the door back tight enough it does not come back on), channels on the TV guide were two channels off (i.e. animal planet channel 42, actually 44), toilet rocks when you sit down and handle was on the left side instead of the right...strange(but whatever), beds had divots in them, not enough plug ins (3 in main area), found a pen top on the floor that someone had missed while "cleaning" our room for a late check-in, not enough lighting, no side entrance to the beach from the side door because of the fence so you had to walk to the middle, shower curtain rod was broke and coming out of the wall, so the curtain only covered the middle of the shower and would not stay on both ends, fridge was not cold and not changeable, coffee maker would not work occasionally. NOW with all that being said, I REALLY don't care about any of this. I have stayed in many awful hotels and this is NOT one of them by a long shot, BUT for the price I expected MUCH better. Final thoughts: I do not feel that paying over $200 a night is justified by the conditions of the hotel. read more

We had a whole host of issues with this hotel. I will start with the room. The water that came out of the tap smelled like sulfur and we had to kill a roach in the room. The restaurant was by far the worst though. The first night we arrived at 8 pm (I know this because I texted a friend right when we sat down) there was one additional table of patrons. That is it, two tables of people. One table had 4 guests and ours had 6. We ordered right away and by 9:30 still had not gotten our food. When we asked to talk to a manager they said we had just sat down 10 minutes earlier. We just asked to pay for our drinks so we could go elsewhere for food and that took another 15 minutes. The next night another person connected with our group choked while eating there and his companion had to fight with them to call an ambulance. I highly recommend staying elsewhere. The next night when our food was paid for by our group so we were actually served through means of a buffet (this was when the man choked), the food was mediocre at best. If you do decide to stay here (which I strongly recommend against), don't eat at the restaurant. read more

One star for beach view only. This place is terrible. Advertised to have restaurant and bar when we made reservations---both closed the whole time we were here (Friday-Tuesday). Tiki bar at the pool---also closed the whole time. Everything in the room stays wet unless you crank the AC below 68. AC doesn't drain, just recirculates the same water (?). Water damage on the ceiling and side walls. Balcony with 2 chairs, no table. Toilet flushed most of the time. Towels smelled weird. Floor absolutely disgusting, unless eating food from previous tenants is your thing (French fries pressed into the carpet). Found a mello yello can and chip bag in the corner of the room behind a chair. Paint peeling off the wall in the bathroom. Bathroom door doesn't align correctly, so you have to slam it closed. Balcony door frame bent, so you have to figure out a push/pull/shake routine to get it closed fully (air conditioner will not run if not fully closed). Door knob on room door not fully attached. The lobby is NOT attached to the hotel itself, you have to walk across the parking lot if you need anything. Most definitely NOT worth the price. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place....unless you you just need a bed, a shower and a 5 second walk to the beach. read more

Honestly my stay was ruined. I booked a room for 2 for one night to celebrate my Mothers Day. I was already charged over $300 and when I check in I was suppose to pay the remaining $32. The lady at the front desk ended up charging me an additional $400 when I checked in. I'm a single mom with 2 kids, and I work very hard. I had less than 24 hours to just get away and relax. I set aside the extra money I saved for this trip, and even though it was refunded to me, It wasn't put back in my account immediately. So I couldn't do anything. I did go to the beach, and that was a neat experience, but I couldn't go out, have drinks, eat good, plan anything for entertainment... I was highly upset about what happened. I was in the lobby crying and it was like no one even cared. It really hurt my feelings, especially since it was Mothers day and this was the only get a way I will be able to splurge on for a very long time. read more

You are paying for the location, which really can be terrific - when the weather is good. The rooms are pretty typical, but were clean and fairly comfortable beds. There are not many other amenities but the location truly is beautiful- sun rises, beach within a couple short walk, fun bars with walking distance. Ask for a ocean view - definitely worth it.
