I think this is the best smash burger I've ever had? It's a crispy, gooey, umami bomb and it was amazing. The fries are pretty solid too. I found out about Hotline via instagram while planning an annual trip to Texas from Florida. Suffice to say that after trying them recently, they are going to be a mainstay on all future Houston visits for us. Came in late on a Tuesday evening. The place isn't big (located in a gas station building), but is very clean, nicely decorated and I wouldn't mind eating in here , which we did. I got their regular cheeseburger (which I shared with my girlfriend) while my friend got a patty melt. They nailed it. I had a strong hunch that these folks knew what they were doing based on the IG pics but the first flavorful bite confirmed that Hotline knows exactly how to make the perfect smash burger. Very well executed in terms of getting those crispy lacy edges right while preserving a nice juicy middle. A nice seasoning and toppings And plus points for the Martin's potato buns which are just right for this type of burger. It was so good I had to let the man up front know we appreciated what they were doing. Burgers are commonplace in Houston, but true smash burgers a lot less common and well-executed ones even rarer. If you can appreciate a truly great burger, Hotline deserves your business. read more

Hole in the wall places are often the best and Hotline Burger is no exception. I'm not generally a fan of the smash burger, but these guys have figured out how to do it. I didn't even miss the lettuce and tomato, but am still really curious why they're not available. One thing I haven't liked during either of our two visits is that the fries were over-seasoned for my taste. We had the garlic parmesan fries once and the hot fries once. The fries were cooked to perfection, but the amount of seasoning means I only ate about half of them. Next time I'll ask if they can back off the seasoning a bit. There's not much to say about the service. The people who have handed me my food were friendly, but since the ordering is done via kiosk there's not much service to speak of. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you open the front door you feel the ambiance of Miami vice colors in lighting, furniture and decor. First off, the place was clean and had a really nice ambiance. A real 90's California vibe and it was really chill. The customer service was also pretty top-notch. Both of the front desk workers were pretty straightforward and accommodating. Shout out to that Asian dude! I enjoyed his recommendation. My order didn't take too long and the front desk workers ensured that I had everything I ordered on it as well. I really appreciated the respect honestly, don't see that around too often. Usually I don't care about these things as long as the food quality is good but I believe that the special mention was necessary. Of course the main part of the restaurant, the food, was great. The wife and I walked in to the sweet sound of music blaring dropping F bombs and N words singing about sexual acts, a kid was sitting at the counter and just stared at us saying nothing. We look at the menu and a guy who was sitting off to the left then tells us we have to use a screen located at the counter to order. So we hit the screen and place our order with the final screen being the tip amount. For what? I did all the work. Anyway. The burgers were good. Very greasy but good. Still, the music and unwelcoming atmosphere were enough to say not going back. Yelp done came through for ya girl again!!! I never know what I want to eat so I simply typed in "lunch" and was blessed to see this as my first option. I don't usually eat a lot of toppings on my burger so Hotline's menu was right up my alley. The grilled onions and crispy beef were a match made in heaven and I even ate the tomatoes which is rare for me. I can tell I love these burgers because I've been back at least five times since my original visit. Don't let the gas station fool you.. it's in a hole in the wall, next to a gas station with a small sign so you almost miss it, but DON'T because it's seriously one of the best burgers I've had.
