The chicken had absolutely no flavor what so ever, it was cold in a few places and hot in other like it had been microwaved, and had the exact consistency as canned chicken. Well, doggone it! I sure hate to publish anything less than super positive, but our experience at Houlihan's last evening just won't let me! My husband and I had dinner around 5:30 in an effort to beat the rush. We have visited this location several times with friends and thought it would be nice to use a $10 coupon received via email. While our server was a very nice young lady who snapped our pic and chatted us up a bit, she didn't remember basic things like bringing us flatware and napkins or a straw for my husband's tea. We had to go search for it on our own or request it. The "Caesar salad" was honestly the worst version ever. The spinach artichoke appetizer had wonderful chips, but the dip itself lacked flavor. We both ordered the stuffed chicken breast, and it's as if it was dumped from a freezer pack from Walmart into hot grease for WAY too long. The coating was hard as a rock on the ends. I couldn't even cut it! I had to pick it up to bite it! The green beans were WAY undercooked and not the least bit garlicky. The Parmesan crusted mashed potatoes I ordered were OK, but they cooled off quick. My husband enjoyed his golden mashers. The only saving grace was the dessert we got to go. (We each ordered the 3-course meal/$24.99.) I took a small bite of my vanilla bean cheesecake when we got home to see if it was worth taking up fridge space. It was delicious! Still, for $25 and all the calories (930 in that chicken brick...uh, breast alone!), I had hopes for much better. I allow myself one Cheat Meal per week, and this was it. We've noticed a slow decline in food quality at this Houlihan's over recent years, and this was THE WORST food ever to come to our table there. I'm sorry, but it's true. It was just terrible, and we will likely not return given all the choices available in the metro. If we do have to go back with friends, we have vowed to order the safest thing we can find on the menu which is probably a hamburger. Very disappointing. UPDATE: The Director of Operations for Houlihan's reaches out to me via email on 8/18/24. I promptly responded, and he wrote back offering dining certificates in the hopes to "make up for this last visit." The certificates were received on 9/12/24. Not sure if/when we will use them. That last visit really left a bad taste in my mouth...literally AND figuratively! read more

This was my first visit and boy, was it delicious! Olivia was our stellar server. She was perfect! Just the right amount of attentiveness and our drinks never ran dry. The cauliflower is so flavorful! A little bit of heat, little bit of sweet, and that crunch! Yum! The French dip was stacked and quite tasty. Stuffed chicken breast is on the other plate. We wanted to try a place we had not been to in a while. I had received a coupon for today only via email so I said what the heck. We were offered main area or bar for happy hour specials. We chose the bar area, the mrs ordered chicken avacado egg rolls and chicken lettuce wraps. I did try the egg rolls they were really good, my wife thought the lettuce wraps were good as well. I had the Hatfield chicken sandwich . It was alot of bread and the chicken was just ok, side sauce was good and the fries were tasty. Enjoyed, as always, receiving a birthday coupon as a vip member. Was confused by the wording of "Have you Cake & Houlihan's too". It implies, but doesn't specifically state that the coupon is for food and a dessert. It does state below the it is good for a complimentary entree only. Also, the coupon is worth up to $15 with purchase of second entree. It has been this value for several years while menu prices have climbed. Been to this restaurant for drinks in the past. It's convenient location in Lee's Summit makes it a great choice. We popped in with friends for a few drinks. We were seated in the dining space, but moved to s cozy booth in the bar area. Our server was quick to introduce himself and gather our orders. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. The drinks arrived in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered a Manhattan and a spiked cherry limeade. Both were refreshing and yummy. The limeade was served in a pitcher, what a delight! The food and service were okay but the ambience was TERRIBLE. I remember when Houlihan's was so cool and stylish. But it felt like a diner. The lights were so bright! I very nicely said something to our server, but consulting a manager she said that the lights were "new" and couldn't be turned down. What?? Sometimes I like to give businesses the benefit of the doubt before posting a review unless I absolutely cannot go back. I have been there three times. The first time was ok. Food was great but service sucked majorly. The second time we had more than two people and we had great service and very tasty food so it restored my faith in the place. Then we went a third time to celebrate something. Entree came before appetizer. Salad got forgotten. The steak temp was wrong so they had to take it back I didn't even wanna eat by then so I told them I didn't want another one so they just took it off the check. Not what I wanted on a celebration night. The ambiance is slowly turning into a very old fashioned one that is not inviting. Don't get me wrong we love going to the green lady jazz club for the old fashion ambiance but houlihans fails to capture the better side of that so. Will I go back? Bad, disappointing, unrelaxing experience. We came here for lunch, but the past couple of times I've been here it has been horribly inefficient and things have just overall been wrong. I only gave this one star because the food (that we DID get) was decent. We sat in the bar, which was decently empty when we got here. The service was so slow, and with the "lunch guarantee" you would think it would be much faster than it was. We were at the restaurant for over an hour and a half with only one drink refill, that we had to beg our waitress for. My iced tea was not "iced" at all. I just love drinking hot tea from a water glass *not*. One person in our party ordered "the soup and salad that never ends", but apparently we found the ending because he only got one salad, and one soup in the entire duration of our visit. I ordered the lunch combo with soup but the soup never came. Apparently "the board gets so overwhelmed with soups and salads that it's hard to keep track of what soups have gone out." Well, it's not our fault that we ordered food and half of what we ordered didn't come out. We asked someone to bring it and the other waitress straight up ignored us. The waitresses made excuses for literally everything under the sun. I was supposed to get chips and salsa but got fries. Good thing I'm not gluten intolerant because I was so starving I ate the fries, which were decent. In the midst of all of this, we were pleasantly surprised by a show that was going on outside! A WAITRESS STORMED OUT AND SAID SHES NOT COMING BACK. We told our waitress we had to catch a plane, so her solution to this was to "give us soup to go" ???? On what earth and what airline does it allow you to bring soup on a plane??? Nice gesture by the waitress, but doesn't fix our horrible experience. *update* soups came out NOT IN TO GO CONTAINERS. Without spoons. Let me scarf the boiling hot soup down with my HANDS real quick before I need to catch my PLANE. Hot damn this was pretty good. I came on the happy hour with my Brothers-in-law. The signature cocktails are $5, you heard me right, $5! All appetizers are $5 as well. Even their godzilla sized Long Island Iced tea. Seriously, if you ever need to get crunk enough to go streaking in the quad, just get one of these. I ordered the mushrooms, two flatbread pizzas, thai wings, buffalo wings, and the guac. The king of it all was the mushrooms. Those honkers came with a great horseradish sauce that wasn't too strong but very tasty. The thai wings were good with their sweet thai chili and the buffalo wings were tasty but not hot at all. One of the flatbreads was a bbq chicken, it was very good. Now we lose that 5th star. The margarita pizza was bland. It tasted like a black and white movie. The guac was almost a hate crime. It was seriously lacking the salt and garlic. It came with a good salsa but the chipotle mayo or whatever it was, was just plain bad. I'd rather just to have had a spoon of mayonnaise. For real. Love this restaurant, nice atmosphere, great service, good food. But...we went yesterday, and I ordered the filet mignon, which comes with two sides. I asked for one of my sides to be the french onion soup. Server told me there was a $2 upcharge. Now, priced individually, the sides are $4.99. Soup is $5.49. So if my elementary math serves me correctly, that is a difference is $.50. I asked the server why they were going to charge me $2 to get the soup instead of fries, pointing out the above $.50 difference. He just said "I don't know, and I know it doesn't make any sense". Most recently I split lunch entrees with my friend Maria and we enjoyed each bite: stuffed mushrooms are decadent, (yes order the 7...3 just isn't enough!) and the kitchen kindly split two entrees for us. I have to say I am here once in a while and on a very narrow time window. Happy hour is the key for me when it comes to this wonderful location. First of all I hope more restaurants like this keep coming to the Lees Summit area. We need you! I would leave negative stars if possible. We had reservations Christmas Day and 20 minutes before arrival they canceled our reservations. They were at capacity. They had all sorts of excuses. When speaking to manager I asked how the system fails for reservations knowing volume of customers. I have used open table multiple times and their system is pretty spot on without over booking. What it came down to was poor management. They allowed more walk-ins than they could handle and it affected the entire restaurant. I appreciate them being there on a holiday, but we made reservations and we make sure to heavily tip or staff. They enjoy working certain holidays because of the money they make. It would have been a completely different situation not being a holiday. There are only a select few restaurants open and we cannot just walk in and grab a bite to eat. The stores were closed and couldn't go grab something to make. Because they deleted my reservation I cannot write a review on open table. read more

I haven't been to this Houlihan's in years. I stopped in to watch the game with my sister. I ordered off of the Prix Fixe menu. I should have known it would have been too much food. I ordered the 'srooms for my appetizer and that's where I should have stopped. The chicken sandwich wasn't the best but I've seen better pictures of it. I selected the vanilla bean cheesecake for dessert - it's still sitting in my fridge. I'm just not a sweet eater. For $20, you get a lot of good. Actually two people could share a meal.
