1st visit to this restaurant and we were greeted by the staff. Parking lot is close and there is seating inside and outside. The sandwiches are unique. You can switch out the panini's to try two different choices. I ordered half of a corned beef on rye with swiss, a lemon thyme turkey with lemon aioli and argula on sourdough. Both of these sandwiches were delicious toasted perfectly. Taking a moment to highlight the turkey sandwich with lemon thyme this was so flavorful and is one of the best sandwiches I have have eaten. This was served with coleslaw that could have a little more flavor. Hubby had the hotdog with pimento cheese but they were out if the chilli so he did not get the full experience. I was in the area and decided to stop in for lunch. I was greeted upon entering and approaching the counter. The staff was friendly. I perused the menu and settled for the Houndstooth House Salad with a scoop of Tuna. Initially, I was going to dine in at a table outside. It was a beautiful day and lunch outside was an obvious choice. Table service was provided and my salad was brought to me. However, I couldn't stay after all and took the food to go. I was able to finish eating once I got home. The House Basil Rice Wine Vinaigrette was the star. It was delicious and complimented the salad so well. Not sure if the vinaigrette is bottled for sale. Finally stopped into Houndstooth a few days ago! We have been coming to this area for a while now, but just finally stopped to eat here. It's a small place with only 2 little tables on the inside, but lots of outdoor seating. Mainly for to go orders or to eat outside. They specialize in sandwiches, but also offer tacos, soups, and salads. I opted for the Lemon. Thyme Turkey sandwich with a side of macaroni salad! I was in between than and the potato salad. The owner/manager was there and she let me try both! It was a tough choice. My friend got the tacos which looked amazing too. They do offer large portions of sides and soups to go in their cooler too. Price was $14 for the sandwich and just $1 to add the side. Service was excellent and the food was prepared quickly. I have never had a problem with paying extra for what I like, I want my food to taste the way I want it to No matter the cost. The food is good, sometimes the service is super friendly other times it is not but you can tell they take pride in their food. This is a new discovery of mine & I am so happy about it. Being that this is right around the corner from my job, I came here for a lunch break & I couldn't be more pleased! This is a small cafe right in downtown Maitland. There's plenty of outside seating, but not much inside due to the size of the cafe itself. I personally love how small it is because it really does feel like a hidden neighborhood gem. I ordered the Chicken Avocado sandwich with no sides & it was delicious. The pairing of the ingredients were SO well crafted & yummy. I cant wait to return to try the other offerings...although this may be the kind of place that I don't want to stop getting the same thing since it was so dang good the first round! I love this place. The soup is incredible. I've been two times both times I had to get the turkey and thyme sandwich because it is to die for. The first time I went I also tried the Reuben and the Cuban. The Cuban was nothing to write home about but the Reuben was pretty good. I probably wouldn't order either of those sandwiches again though. This last time I tried the pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious. I would like to try some other sandwiches before I would order that one again. It was falling apart so it's a bit messy. The turkey sandwich is still on top and I definitely would recommend giving it a try. There's nice outdoor seating but beware of the bees. Can someone please tell me where I can find a great BLT in Central Florida? I'm still on the lookout. I was craving a BLT and I decided to come to a small restaurant. The food here is really good, they really know how to make a tasty sandwich. My tuna melt was spectacular; washed it down with a beer from Sandford brewing next door. I do however think that some of their items are overpriced like their basket of tater tots for $7. Anywhere else it would be 4 - 5 dollars max and it was just tater tots, for that I might as well just order 2 sandwiches and it would cost almost the same. I agree with the other reviews too, the sandwiches are a bit small. However, this would not stop me from eating here again because as previously stated, the sandwich was excellent. It was difficult finding this. But it's right across the street from the city hall park. Parking was easy in the garage. It was hard to find because construction had the road closed. The weather today is one of the few great days in Florida. The iguanas were falling out of trees yesterday. Thankfully I didn't see an iguana special here! The place had a ton of people at noon. But there was no line at the register. I was grateful for that because I intermittent fast. My order was taken by a very friendly woman. The inside is very clean. They have a few tables inside. Much more seating outside. If it's full, you can take it to go and picnic in the park. I ordered the 2 half panini. Which lets you choose any 2 half paninis for $10.65 after tax, no upcharge, I love it! I ordered the Chicken Pesto Panini and Reuben. I wanted to try a couple of things to see what I would come back for. The 2 half panini is a great idea for return business. The pesto was great. I like it with much more garlic, but people do have to do back to work. So I didn't leave at all smelly! It was a very sandwich. It was definitely on the small side. Three words: pimento cheese floater. I told my husband to order me a half BLT and a tomato bisque cup. What arrived was a full BLT sandwich and a bowl of tomato bisque with a pimento cheese floater. Seemingly off the beaten path of 17-92, but certainly familiar to Maitland locals, Houndstooth is a must-try deli style scratch kitchen. I had the panini pressed Houndstooth Cuban (+ tomato), and Macaroni Salad, and iced-tea. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Love the panini pressed approach to doing a Cuban. The pork had a clean marinade flavor, too. And quite possibly the best macaroni salad, this side of the Mississippi. This is one of those places that when you realize you missed out ever since they opened about 4 years ago, you want to come back and make up for lost time, especially after seeing all they offer (salads, panini sandwiches, soups and sides). The spacious outside patio overlooking the scenic park across the street was also a pleasant surprise. I'm an interior designer, who found the rustic modern decor to be a nice complement to the quaint interior. More importantly, as an Alabama Crimson Tide fan, the Bear Bryant "Houndstooth" and Crimson-stained reclaimed ship lap paneling was a subtle and tasteful touch. I had a filling done down the street and was done just as Houndstooth was opening, I thought no better time to stop in for some soup! Ask for the fresh homemade croutons on the side. My mom also loves their tuna salad which is made with this white BBQ but it's not a super heavy or sweet sauce so I recommend you give it a try. If you ask nice enough for a taste, they'll provide a small nibble inside at the counter. That's how I knew I definitely would try the turkey chili but I can't seem to get past the tomato bisque.
