A great spot for live music and dinner. I made reservations for five and we didn't have to wait that long. The service was good, the staff were attentive, kept checking up on us. We ordered appetizers to share and ordered the sea bass for main dish. The ribs were perfectly flavored, meat came right off. We heard that people come for the coconut cake so we had to order for dessert. Dessert is perfect for sharing.

My family came here on a Saturday evening to watch our friend dance hula. The atmosphere was light, warm, and filled with the Aloha spirit. The venue is absolutely beautiful with the oceanfront view and Diamond Head in the background. The band and hula dancer were the magic of the evening. Food was great too. The crab cake was our favorite and the beet salad was refreshing. Pizza was okay too!Our server, Melissa, checked in on us multiple times throughout the night. She was friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back again!

What a wonderful way to end a business leisure trip. House Without a Key is one of the only privately owned properties on Waikiki beach. Do access their website, as there is a great backstory regarding how this beautiful property came to be. Spoiler alert: make reservations, request a table with an umbrella by the surf, order one of their famous Mai Tai cocktails, and enjoy their elevated cuisine, service, and entertainment. We arrived and were greeted by staff and directed to the dining area. Our request for a table by the beach was honored, and we were just far enough away from the (wonderful) entertainment that we could thoroughly enjoy it and carry on a conversation. I noticed that their Caesar salad had anchovies draped across the lettuce! Our wonderful professional server, Melissa, gave us a heads-up that the Apps were huge and easily shared. Our split salad arrived, and yes, sharing is the way to go. For our entrees, I ordered the swordfish, and Plus 1 ordered the sticky ribs appetizer for dinner. Swordfish is a tricky one to grill; one extra minute, and the fish turns to chewing gum. My dinner was cooked perfectly, firm and moist. We could have easily shared the sticky rib App. These ribs were tender as all heck and spiced to perfection. Since we were celebrating a special event, we were gifted with their famous Halekulani's Signature Coconut Cake. Wow, Light as a feather and oh so decadent! An adjoining table ordered a pizza, yes, a pizza for dinner. I must say the pizza looked awesome. This was a thin-crust gourmet pizza with some interesting meat and cheese toppings. I am a pizza snob times 10, and I would return just to order that pizza. Pro tip: You will be dining outside, so those pesky birds will be keeping a close eye on any food that you drop. Do not leave your table unguarded, or you will be feeding them (LOL). Enjoy all y'all!

Update on House Without A Key this morning we celebrated my sister and Allen.N belated birthdays. Everyone enjoyed and their breakfast Buffett is outstanding. My favorite were the Japanese breakfast area along with the made to order omelette station . Service is always top notch and we sat on the same table when we were there last time along with the same waitress Kelly . What's the odds on that lol The view at this restaurant is amazing view of the Waikiki skyline along with Diamond in the distance . Support local

Looking for upscale water view dining while in Hawaii ? Well here you go ! House Without a Key is an iconic, upscale American restaurant at the Halekulani hotel in Honolulu, known for its sunset cocktails, live Hawaiian music, and hula dancing under a historic Kiawe tree with views of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. It offers all-day dining with a menu featuring fresh seafood, steaks, and burgers, alongside popular items like its signature mai tai and coconut cake, and coconut old fashion cocktails , it's amazing all around ! The atmosphere is casual yet elegant, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and reservations are strongly recommended for dinner. While dining we saw a few A list celebrities and after wards browsed the Louis Vuitton boutique and the resort's shops as well. Fabulous is an understatement and it's not for the budget friendly.

The Halekulani is a luxurious oasis. upon entry you are enveloped in calmness as you walk through the meticulous property. In the craziness of Waikiki it affords a peacefulness as the live music takes you back in time. The service is professional and unobtrusive. We enjoyed the Mai Thai's and poke before having their famous coconut cake. Go for sunset and experience the best waikiki has to offer. We will always make this a stop while in Honolulu. Mahalo .

We love House without a Key for breakfast/buffet brunches and for dinner. Dinner is actually quite reasonable. Maybe bc we're vegetarians who don't drink or eat seafood lol. But the vegetarian options are both delicious and good portion sizes. We think it's a phenomenal deal for how fancy the restaurant is and how amazing the views are. I'll try to remember to take pictures of the food next time. I had forgotten my phone in the room and these crappy pics were taken from my kids dad's cheap android phone lol... even his crappy phone quality can't hide these perfect views though!

Overall take, nice vibes and atmosphere, especially with the ocean view, hula dance, and hawaiian music. Friendly service. Entrees are unfortunately underwhelming, but everything else does make up for it. It started off with these taro rolls that were really good! Really soft and a subtle flavor of taro that was really nice. We ordered the Hoisin Coconut Ribs, Pizza Arugla & Prosciutto, Signature Local Fresh Catch (which was a Chilean Sea Bass), Asian Braised Short Rib, and the Coconut Curry Chicken Breast. So it did take awhile for the entrees to arrives, but at least the drinks were quicker to be made. The drinks are pretty here and quite strong! I enjoyed the fruity cocktail but one was enough for me for the night haha. First came the Hoisin Coconut Ribs, which we all shared. This was pretty good since the rib fell apart quite nicely. The flavor wasn't that strong, but it was pretty good. The pizza came next and this was pretty standard. I wouldn't say it's anything too special, but it was pizza. Then the other short rib, which was pretty soft as well. Next was the Local Fresh Catch. Honestly this one was very underwhelming because this one basically just tasted like the steamed fish you can get at a Chinese Seafood Restaurant for a larger portion and more worth the price. Especially the ingredients that used to prepare this, it tasted very very similar. The Coconut Curry Chicken Breast was the most unique one of the entrees we ordered. It had a smoky aroma and I enjoyed it with the little garnishes that offered on the side for it! Overall, it does seem like the entree dishes revolve around Asian cuisine, except Americanized. Some are tasty, some don't taste worth it, but the presentation and the vibes of the restaurant are quite nice. Our waiter was also extremely kind and kept updating us when the food would come out. He did make a mistake on our coconut curry and ordered it as tofu curry, so they mistakenly made our dish twice with different things, and ended up getting the coconut curry right. He also covered it for us! Also the desserts, the coconut cake and the chocolate cake were both very nice! The coconut cake was oddly very light and fluffy, so this was pretty good! The chocolate cake was extremely rich as well. We were already so full by the end of the meal.

Excellent service and ambiance. Perfect location in the beach in waikiki. Food was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Not great. First time here. Came with good expectations of a great experience. But...I got stopped going in and questioned then escorted to the restaurant. Sat quickly outside. The server looked mad and was not friendly. The drink tasted like a lemon cleaner. Ordered the coconut drink. Missing the coconut and almond rim. The sushi roll was fair. The pizza was missing the oregano and basil so fair at best. $90 for 1drink and 2 apps. The live music was good. The hula dancer was late late. She appeared to be intoxicated or distracted. Half of her lei crown flowers were turning brown. When I paid the server returned saying he charged my card for someone else's order $179! Said it was cancelled and would clear my card in 7 days. This was not the experience or quality or service I would expect to receive here.

Food is very expensive. I got a salad with cheese and they gave me half an ounce of cheese. I was shocked. The pizza was good. The entertainment was average. The service was average. Ambience was OK. I probably won't be back.

Came here in a Thursday night with no reservations, unfortunately weren't able to get a table for dinner but was able to sit for cocktails. Would recommend making a reservation for dinner, they have live music and great view. My partner wasn't a fan of his old fashion and didn't think it had much banana or coconut flavors. Food was overall just on, here more for the live music and ambience.

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a nice dinner. Our reservation was at 7:15pm so we just missed sunset. However they did have nice music playing but it only lasted until about 8pm. We ordered two drinks, ribeye and a pizza and the bill was about $200 including tip. While the ribeye was tasty, I feel that the experience fell short. For $200, not even an acknowledgment for our celebration just seemed very odd for such a high end place. Cocktails at $24 each just didn't seem worth it. Our waiter was kind but overall there wasn't much that was special about our experience there and I wouldn't be inclined to recommend or go back.

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! In fact, around 7:30 p.m. when we stopped by, there was actually a ton of seating available in the bar. Who would've guessed. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

Great service and yummy food... Tucked away at the Laylow…read morehotel, is a chill restaurant with fun Hawaiian vibes. We started our vacation with dinner at the Hideout, and upon entering you could immediately hear live music. We received a warm welcome, and brought over to our booth where our server Kai was quick to greet us. We ordered cocktails (I don't remember the name of mine. It's something spritz, and my husband tried the banana bread old fashioned) and we shared the appetizer platter (brussel sprouts with pork belly, kalua pork egg rolls, poke tacos, and edamame)to share. We also ordered the garlic shrimp dumplings. Everything was super tasty. Lots of other items on the menu that I want to try during another visit to the island.

I initially tried the bakery directly across the street at the International Marketplace, but they didn't open until 7am. I began to walk towards a distant Starbucks I found on Google and noticed an active escalator and signage pointing towards the open Hideout at the Laylow. Advertising local coffee, I immediately took the ride upstairs and was greeted by two young ladies full of smiles and Aloha spirit! Being summertime and hot (even at 6am) I ordered a large iced latte and decided to drink it on their large open lanai. I'm glad I did. The breezes up there were perfect and watching the daylight get brighter with local birds chirping and fluttering about made for a very nice wake-up! This became my go-to stop every morning of my visit! I only ordered breakfast once and kept it low-carb so I had cheesy eggs and Portuguese sausage. Perfect and hit the spot. If staying at the Laylow (Marriott product) or close by, I'd recommend this as your morning wake-up as well! Enjoy!

What surprised me most was how good the food was for the price. Usually spots with this kind of atmosphere rely on the drinks to carry the experience, but every dish actually delivered. The chicken karaage was crispy and packed with flavor, the beef takoyaki disappeared almost instantly, and the taro chips with mascarpone were such a unique combination. Between the cocktails, food, service, and atmosphere, everything just worked.

The owner is Steve Aoki, of Aoki Group, and son of daredevil and entrepreneur, Rocky Aoki. The staff were super nice. The brunette (Ellie?) working Sat, 4/25 was super friendly, and worked her ass off. The Azn fellow who also took care of us let us look at the bottles of special bourbon we drank: Four Roses & Blantons both tr the Aoki Collection. Regarding the ambiance its whimsical inside. I didn't look on the lanai, but I understand you can smoke cigars out there. The background music was jazz and the occasional Motown hit (Stylistics). My cuz who lives in Kaimukī has neva been to RM 38. I promised to add him to the res next time. Its a lot easier to get in vs another speakeasy in Chinatown, and its walking distance from where I always stay at the Moana.
