IF YOU HAVE A BABY/TODDLER, DO NOT COME AT THIS LOCATION! I've never been disrespected like this, the manager here in a black suit was so disrespectful to me, my husband and my 19 month old. We checked in and was told its gonna be 15-20 mins so i said alright, we waited at the designated are where the little koi pond is at and my baby whine for just ONE SECOND while pointing to her bottle, so my husband gave her the bottle and she immediately stop. Few seconds later, this manager in a black suit approached my husband while i was in the bathroom and told him to wait outside because my baby is being loud and they don't want that. So my husband and baby waited outside and i waited inside. After 15 mins we got seated and immediately after the drinks were serve, the guy in the black suit approached us again and told me that my baby needs to sit down and not stand on the couch, this is MY first interaction with him so I told him okay and then he left. I tried my best to keep her seated on my lap but as an 18 month old, she has her free will to stand or sit or talk or laugh or cry whenever she wants too and i cannot control that especially if she's not strapped into a booster or highchair, which they don't have. So here I am, eating while keeping my baby behave and seated. But ofcourse she keep standing and i keep having her to sit down, but I don't wanna force her or else she'll cry or yell right? So i offered her my phone so she can watch and get herself busy. Everything was great. Food was served and were in the middle of eating when.... Then this gentleman APPROACHED US again for the 3rd time and said "i know i already been here blah blah" then i cut him off before he even say more and I basically lashed out and said i do not like how he's approaching us, my baby was very quiet and behave watching on my phone, when he approached us and he said that he can hear and see her from afar because she was standing on the couch again, then he saw the phone and said the volume was too loud when it's not so i lower it down to shut him up and then my husband said "we'll finish our meal and never come back" then he left basically speechless. I basically lost my appetite, we got the bill and paid and on our way out when this lady approached me and asked me what was said to me by the guy in a black suit. Then i find out that this lady got a baby too and was treated the same freakin way, i can't even hear her baby from where I am seating and this manager can hear everything like what the hell? THIS IS BASICALLY AN ANTI BABY/TODDLER/KID LOCATION. I've been to different Houston's and they welcome my baby open arms and never get treated this way. Went to Houston's for the first time and had a great time! My friends and I went on a Friday right before prime time dinner hours. They don't take reservations and we were prepared to wait a while, but only needed to wait about 30 mins which was great (initially we were quoted a 1.5 hr wait)! Everyone got drinks and one of the most impressive things they do here is continually refresh your drink by pouring it into a freshly chilled glass. First time I've seen this! As for the food, we all split a bunch of things to try different bites. The pressed sushi was a nice surprise we tried and really enjoyed the flavors. I also tried artichoke for the first time and thought it tasted great especially with the dipping sauce. The lighting inside is very moody and this would also be a great date spot. They have a small parking lot attached which can fill up quickly so street parking and nearby lots are also available. read more

Our absolute favorite spot for date night, lunch date, special an occasion date, etc. We LOVE this spot. We always get the same things cause they're just too good to not get. We start with the grilled artichoke (don't skip if they have it cause sometimes they're not in season or they run out!). I always get Dings crispy chicken sandwich which is delicious! My partner always gets the famous French dip. So good with the au jus. Service is always fantastic although I recommend a reservation because it gets packed! Especially in the evenings. read more

First time here and it was amazing. Service was top notch. I never been to a restaurant that has had this type of service. Everyone was super attentive. The food was so good. I had the Hawaiian Ribeye with the loaded baked potato it was so good. Tasty and cooked perfectly. Drinks are also made quick and strong. The restaurant it self has an open kitchen concept but has an intimate vibe. Great for a date night or girl night. I would not recommend for big groups. First time eating here and pleasantly surprised! Thought it would be a stale, lackluster steakhouse but really enjoyed the menu variety, lively ambiance, and customer service. Absolutely loved the kale and chicken salad and would eat this every day. The pressed sushi was fresh and quite decent for a non-Asian restaurant. The spinach artichoke dip was also very tasty. Would definitely come back and highly recommend making a reservation because even at 8:30pm on a Wednesday night it was veryyy busy. This is a very hard review to write since I have been here before and have always had an enjoyable experience. However, this review is based on a recent visit I had. My family and I had a very disappointing experience at Houston's Pasadena while trying to celebrate my mom's birthday. She had never been to this restaurant before, and we were looking forward to making it a special evening for her. We were a party of five, and I knew ahead of time that they didn't take reservations for groups of more than four. To check the wait time, I called while in the parking lot and was told it would be 60-90 minutes. My family and I were fine with that and decided to wait. However, when we went inside, we were told they weren't seating parties of more than four people at all. This directly contradicted the information I was given over the phone. To make matters worse, while standing in the waiting area, I noticed several larger parties either being seated or waiting to be seated. The inconsistency was frustrating, especially when we were told there was no way to accommodate us. After leaving, I even sent an email to the General Manager expressing my concerns, but I've yet to receive any acknowledgment or response. This experience was disheartening, especially because it was supposed to be a celebration for my mom. If there is a policy against seating parties of five or more, that should have been communicated clearly when I called. And if exceptions were being made for other groups, it's hard not to feel like we were treated unfairly. We left feeling frustrated and unwelcome. It's one thing to have policies, but transparency, fairness, and good communication are essential in ensuring customers feel respected. Sadly, that didn't happen here. read more

We drove 35 miles to Houston's after calling ahead to confirm we'd be okay for a late dinner. I specifically told the hostess it was my wife's birthday and asked if we'd still be seated if we arrived by 9 PM. She assured me that as long as we put our name in by 10 PM, we'd be fine. We got there at 9:02 PM, only to be told by a male server (with glasses) that it was too late and they couldn't seat us. I explained the conversation we had with the hostess, and he just shrugged and said "yeah, sorry." Thanks, Houston's, for wasting our time, gas, and energy -- and more importantly, for completely disappointing my wife on her birthday. We made reservations last minute to try this location and it didn't disappoint. We were on a time crunch and our waitress was amazing with accommodations. She made sure everything was served the second it was out! We ordered ribs, fries, clam chowder, salad and sushi. There are zero complaints as everything was perfect. OMG, this restaurant must get 7, yes SEVEN STARS. I have been their customer for the past 4 decades, from Georgetown, Washington DC in 80s and 90s and at their El Segundo, Los Angeles location in early 2000, And this past Sunday for our 8 Year Anniversary with my fiancé we had a reservation at 2:15. Then one of the greatest expedites in dining started right then and there. We were seated by the one of the warmest hosts a young lady with a great smile seated us at exactly 2:16. Talk about an amazing organization! WOW, I was shocked because the restaurant was jam-packed with at least 30-35 people standing. GET RESERVATION!!! The parking was packed and had to park indoor at the back of the restaurant which was better because it was raining. Then our waiter Jamal showed up with a great smile and a warm welcome. Make the story short, way above expectations service by Jamal, he definitely deserve a raise for his high quality customer service attitude, technique and strategy. After him 6 different people brought different things to the table with no mistake. I was impressed about the organization and how every one collaborated without a single mistake. There were 4 managers on the floor and at least 20+ waiters and waitresses and at last another 20+ people in the kitchen exposed to the dining area and you can not I repeat you can not smell the food from the kitchen. That the heat architecture. Fabulous ambiance. At the end I shook Sean's hand, one of managers and I thanked him for a great food, excellent service and well orchestrated and disciplined operation. If you read my other reviews you will understand I do not get impressed at all unless the service and food are way above anyone's expectation. Go There, do not spend your money at any other restaurant, treat yourself and get pampered! We all well deserve to have excellent service and eat yummy food with the food prices these days. Bring back the MUSTARD SAUCE on the double cut pork chops!!! Houston's, why did you eliminate the sauce for the pork chops?! Offer it on the side at least! I am seriously going to reconsider ever going to Houston's again. We've been going there for years to have the pork chops...such a major foodie disappointment! The sauce gave the pork chops such an edge and finish. It was a GREAT dish to have. Now, with no sauce, it's just pretty pedestrian, something I can make at home. Also, please take the cabbage ("stretcher?") out of the mashed potatoes. They are like foreign substances in the potatoes while eating it. I thought it was paper fallen in the mix. Ok the ribs were pretty good and I don't even like pork so I'm impressed. Broccoli had like cheese on it that was whatever and the potatoes were good but I don't like the cabbage in it. Spinach artichoke dip was delicious. The bread was really good too very fresh. Caesar salad was not good, I hate when they put kale instead of lettuce and that's what they did here. If u like kale go for it ig but I just don't. Chicken sandwich was pretty average like very average. I always love the ambience in here and the lighting is dark but in a nice comfortable way. We mentioned it to the waitress and she said it was like you're in a womb. I was like um ok ya the waitress was nice but a little too nice she kept coming every like 3 minutes to ask us if we were doing good but yk I guess that's good. Deeply Disappointed by Unprofessional Treatment from Management I am writing this review to express my shock and disappointment with how we were treated today by the general manager, Sean Martin, at Houston's. We have been loyal patrons of Houston's for years. It has always been a convenient and enjoyable place to host our clients for lunch. Today's experience, however, was extremely disappointing. Our server was pleasant, although the service was a bit slow. We ordered appetizers and wine, followed by two steaks and a salad for our main course. The steaks arrived first, but the salad was delayed by about 7-10 minutes, leaving the steaks and potatoes cooling by the time everything was served. It wasn't ideal, but we didn't consider it a major issue. After finishing our main course, we ordered dessert and coffee. While we were still enjoying them, Daniel, the manager, approached our table. He asked how everything was, and we responded that everything was great. To our surprise, he then informed us that we needed to leave because we had exceeded the 1.5-hour time limit for lunch and other guests were waiting for our table. We were completely taken aback. At no point during the reservation process or on the restaurant's website is there any mention of a time limit. We have dined here many times before--typically staying between 1.5 to 2 hours--and have never been asked to leave before finishing our meal. This situation was uncomfortable and embarrassing, especially in front of our client. Nonetheless, we got up and left promptly. On our way out, my coworker stopped to speak with Daniel to share how upsetting the experience had been. He mentioned that we are regular guests and had just spent nearly $500 on a three-person lunch. During this conversation, Sean Martin, the general manager, joined in and stated bluntly that he was in charge, it was his restaurant, and that we were no longer welcome to return. We were stunned. Such treatment--especially from a general manager--is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. We have always appreciated Houston's for its quality food and consistent service, but after today, we will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

They didn't get our burger right. So they gave us another one. Old school. Service is impeccable. Atmosphere is perfect. Look at my other reviews. I'm not easy and I struggle with quality v. Price. I want a good value whether it's inexpensive or whether it's expensive. Nothing worse than paying a lot and getting sub fare. This is pricey. But when you taste the best burger you have had in a decade and the best roasted artichoke I've EVER had (and I've lived in the Monterey area) and the best apple walnut cobbler EVER and that is served All in the same dining experience, this is superb quality at an excellent price. I've been to Michelin star restaurants. This is close. I'm giving it a 5 stars. I can't ask for anything better. Fries were good. You absolutely need a reservation to get in to Houston's if you don't want to wait 2+ hours and getting a reservation is difficult. Theyre constantly booked out a month in advance and I can see why. I went recently with a friend and everything about the meal was delicious. Houston's is a sister restaurant to Hillstone and South Beverly Grill so the have very similar menus, BUT after many complains from local Houston fans, they brought back their baked potato!!! (Which SBG has not) I started my night with a pomegranate martini and it was the best one I've ever had in Los Angeles. For our appetizer we got the hiramasa roll which was excellent, just wish there were 6 so it could be split evenly between 2 people since we were fighting over that last roll. For our entrees I got the filet and the loaded baked potato, flavors were on point! My friend got the Hawaiian ribeye which has a sweet flavor but not overpowering. For her side she got the red cabbage which honestly did not sound good at all, but was actually surprisingly delicious. I wish people would read the restaurant policies before on her an complaining about things that could all be avoided: yes, it s NOT a child friendly restaurant! Yes, they do NOT allow hats! Yes, it is not a place for parties larger than four!!! Yes, the do NOT take cash! Come prepared!!!Do your due diligence and you won't be disappointed. Plenty of other restaurants to eat at if these policies are not for you! The food and service is consistent and great! In 30 years, I have never had a negative experience with the food, staff, or managers. I'm sure they took more abuse than ever as people have lost their sense of decency since COVID. My friends and I have been to This restaurant on many occasions. Last night we had one of the WORST! Experiences going to this restaurant..... when we got there we put our name down for 5 people and were told it would be about an hour before we were seated. Which is pretty normal for this restaurant. We went to the bar and as usual we ordered 5 Old fashion , we get our drinks and of course we all start sipping on our drinks. Right away everyone is going WTF !! This doesn't taste right. We tried to drink it just so we don't make a big fuss. But me and another friend couldn't do it. It was not GOOD!! So we asked the bartender if they could do something to change the flavor and he right away said (No worries I'll make new ones). We were like great!! As we are waiting for the new drinks one of the managers comes up to us and says the drinks that were made were exactly what the bartender uses every time he makes them. NOT TRUE because we have been there so many times and they usually make them really good. So we argued with him and explained we have had there old fashioned many times and it's never like this. After 5 minutes of back and forth he left and now a higher up manager showed up with a security guard and says to us. SORRY guys but you all need to leave my restaurant now. We will not be serving you tonight. Extremely Rude. I'm almost 60 years old and have been to hundreds of restaurants in my lifetime and ALL over the world. I have never been thrown out of a restaurant like this. We were going to be celebrating our upcoming trip to car week in Monterey and I'm sure our bill was going to over a thousand dollars. Honestly, this place is just frustrating. I've been going to Houston's for years and the organization of their operation has definitely changed for the worst. We used to be able to put our name and number down and then receive a text message when our table was ready. Today we arrived and our names were written in a little black book like it was 1992 and we were told that we could not be given a time estimate but it shouldn't be too long because we were just waiting for a couple of bar seats.1 hour went by and we were still waiting around like a couple of dummies. We ended up just leaving since they still wouldn't give a time estimate even after asking again. My real problem with Houston's is that people are really out here treating it like it's all that and then some lol. The food is solid but not worth the wait. Do you know how many nice dinner spots there are in LA? And everyone is choosing a hill stone chain? Today I saw a guy in a cowboy hat just hovering around the bar like the little black book didn't exist. The thought of trying to enjoy my dirty martini with that guy breathing down my back might have been the tipping point. Sadly we had a terrifying visit. First they refused to seat a group of 5 women however there were several booths with parties of 4 & 5. The food came and we had to send my steak back twice. They eventually got the food correct but, everyone was done eating at our table. Overall I would not come back based on the food, service and the unfavorable behavior towards other customers. What a disappointing visit on what was to be a celebratory day. Our friend was driving from San Diego to sign her lease on her new house after losing her home in the fire . She was stuck in traffic so we ordered her dinner for her and ours which was very expensive. The management told us we had exceeded our time limit and needed to go. This was my second time at this location. My son seem to enjoy Houston's so much that he wanted to go back for his birthday. He loves the sushi, especially the kyuri Maki Roll (caviar on top). My daughter had the French Dip Au Jus sandwich (didn't get a photo). I had the house-made veggie patty and fries. I wish they had more vegan options. The service was outstanding. The server provided great recommendations and provided excellent descriptions on suggested dishes. Everyone, including the hostess station and bartenders made the experience even better. Houston's is just one of those places that is classic and reliable. Pasadena is out of our normal meal travel zone, we have to go out of our way to get here, but it's worth it. They closed the Houstons that was close to us, it was a very sad day. The atmosphere is very relaxing- dimly lit, there are koi fish in a pond that goes from the outside to inside the restaurant, it just feels like a civilized, welcoming place when you walk in. The service is pretty much always perfect. The waiters have a style of service where they help one another, so someone is always refilling, picking things up, or dropping things off. The menu has stayed nearly the same for the past couple of decades- ribs, steaks, fish, salads, sushi, sandwiches. Ribs are great for special occasions. The apple walnut cobbler is a dream.
