    Black Beans & Brown Rice

This is my second time here, the food is always delicious and our waitress was so sweet and attentive. The spinach and artichoke dip is always a favorite and is a good size, they also will give you extra chips. The california burger was good, I also love their fries and the seasoning it comes with. The french dip was also delicious, but I think this time when we got it, the dip was not as salty and the bun was not as soft as last time we had it. This was my first time trying the beans and rice, it was super flavorful. The beans tasted similar to barbeque sauce. The brownie was also really good, I like how most of the nuts were on top vs inside of the brownie Although this is a pricier meal, it is a good meal & ambience for a date night or girl's night'

The last word 4: Going to Houston's is always an experience that I look forward to. I always rave about the highly professional servers and the excellent service, but during my last visit they came a little short of their usual attentiveness and attention to detail. Still a favorite restaurant of mine and highly recommended! Location 4: On the SE corner of S Arroyo Pkwy (a.k.a. Route 66) and Del Mar Blvd in the busy Pasadena, CA. Fortunately they offer free parking on the restaurant lot. Metered parking on the street is possible but limited. Venue 5: Upscale and trendy setting with comfortable indoor tables and booths. No outdoor seating. It is always very busy so be sure to make reservations way ahead of time Service 3.5: Our server this time was a little slow and casual, and not very attentive. This is unusual for Houston's. Food 5: Excellent, upscale comfort food. You simply cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. Drinks 3: Excellent (but small) list of creative specialty drinks. Full bar. Good list of beer and wine. While they do serve Espresso and Cappuccino and have a full bar, can you believe that they will not make you an Espresso Martini??? :D They also do NOT have decaf at all which is kind of unexpected.

One of our favorite place in Pasadena, absolutely amazing place excellent food and service. Our lunch today was delicious and Natalie was absolutely fantastic. There's No Place like HOUSTON'S

One of my favorite places to come to for drinks and dinner. Some of my favorite dishes is the pressed sushi, cheese burger, and a crisp martini. The ribeye was really good as well, it was super flavorful and tender. Service is always top tier which I really love.

The Spinach and Artichoke dip was definitely one of the best parts of the meal, and so was the Hawaiian steak. Not only is the food incredible, but the service is also fantastic. The ambiance is great. Highly recommend if you enjoy comfort foods but want to try going to a more upscale location.

This was my first time at any of the Hillstone restaurants and it did not disappoint. We had reservations and was seated relatively quickly, highly recommend making a reservation. We absolutely loved everything we ordered: -nigiri plate -rotisserie chicken -prime rib sandwich Everything tasted amazing (surprisingly the sushi was delicious!). We got cocktails and mid-cocktail the server came by and refreshed my martini glass to a cold one. The food quality and the service made our first visit so great that we are excited to try the other Hillstone restaurants.

Fast service on Thursday 5 pm . Party of 2 gets seated pretty fast and the bar is also available for singles . Courteous and friendly staff- the food is Delicious . I got a cheeseburger with cheddar cheese. Medium rare- delicious . I got a tequila shot with no additives anejo tequila. Best , best night ever. Come over and enjoy a lovely early dinner.

Houston's has been one of my favorite steak restaurants in Pasadena for years, and I'm happy to say it is just as good today as I remember. Even though it's part of a chain, the restaurant consistently delivers quality food, reliable service, and a comfortable atmosphere that keeps me coming back. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired well with their classic fries, which were crisp, flavorful, and always a satisfying side. The salad was also exceptionally fresh, with high-quality ingredients that made it feel more thoughtful than a typical steakhouse starter. What I appreciate most about Houston's is its consistency--whether visiting years ago or today, the food quality and service remain dependable. Service was attentive, professional, and efficient throughout the meal. The only downside is the long line at the entrance, even for guests with reservations. However, the staff manages the crowd well, and despite the wait, we were seated earlier than expected. Overall, Houston's continues to be one of the most reliable dining spots in Pasadena, offering a great steakhouse experience with solid food, excellent service, and a level of consistency that is increasingly hard to find.

Just like a baseball player sometimes the best strike out but innings later they hit a home run, service starts out a little slow. Picks up and ends the night4/5 dip sandwich and ribs are always a go to and you know I appreciate I bit of "table touching" a manager did come by to say hello

I came here for an early Valentine dinner but everyone seem to have the same idea as us so the wait was long. Note to self: Make a reservation next time. While waiting, there was a waitress who took drinks orders for people waiting. Other than the long wait, when my bf and I got seated, we were seated at the Bar. I ordered the Hawaiian steak and he ordered the wood grilled ribeye. I kept stealing my boyfriend's fries, the baked potato was alright. However for the medium Hawaiian steak, I ordered it was really good, the marinate was sweet and flavorful. My bf's wood grilled steak was very juicy. The service was friendly and kept asking us if we needed anything.

Haha I guess I'm updating my review. I just wanted to add pictures. Well still my favorite place to get a great steak and even better bistro burger. Houston's is a great place to go when you're looking for a little bit class and lots of quality. Everything is great from the apps to the mains. Plus the service is so kind and helpful. Still no high chair or booster seat option for the kiddos. A true 5/5 Always an easy recommendation.

I wish Yelp had half ratings because I would give this place a 3.5. Some dishes were great but others fell short. Reservations are a must, it gets busy even for lunch. And honestly if I were to come back, I would only go for dinner. The price you pay is too high for lunch. Inside is dimly lit, another reason it's better to go for dinner, has a more romantic vibe. Service was really good 5/5. We got some sushi and the spinach dip. I would skip the sushi, it was mediocre, not worth the price. Spinach dip as also just ok. They can do without the sour cream on the side. Main dish which was the sole was actually really good. Amazing flavor, I would recommend it for sure!

I probably would have given the restaurant a 3.5 but the main entrees were delicious. Okay, so I think the appetizers and sushi were lacking, especially for the price. The layered sushi roll is 5 pieces of low quality sushi. The spinach dip is like eating Applebee's spinach dip. I was scared our main dishes were going to be similar. Fortunately, the main dishes were great. We ordered the Hawaiian steak, which was seasoned and cooked well. The prime rib sandwich was delicious as well. Don't waste money on the appetizers or sushi.

Ask the Community - Houston's Restaurant

    Are Dogs allowed on patio?

    There is no patio

    Is there motorcycle parking?

I think there is. Their parking lot is ginormous.

Can it accommodate a party of 6?

The restaurant is styled for more intimate gatherings. Four are comfortably seated in some of the larger booths, six would be a squeeze. You can call to ask if their large circular booth would hold 6

Is there any dress code? Is jeans acceptable?

This is from the horse's mouth (a.k.a. the restaurant website). Now how literally they will enforce it may vary from case to case. I usually go there dressed casually but not in beach attire. Nice jeans should be fine. I've won them before:…

Can any of the vegetarian options be made vegan?

    How is the parking?

Not great for bicycles, but ok for cars....

    Do you do take out?

    Yes they do.

    Open Christmas day?

    Yes

    Open thanksgiving day?

    Houston's is closed on Thanksgiving.

    Do they serve bread?

    Bread is not served.

    Do they do take out?

    No they do not

    Adding my name to waitlist?

If you call ahead, you can be added

Is it true that Houston does not allow you to dine in when you have a family or party of more than 4 people??? I just called to make a reservation & a female hostess said they do not allow parties of more than 4 with or without reservations to dine.

Yes, not sure why, but the Pasadena restaurant has tables that are fastened to the floor which prevents multiple tables from being moved in together for larger groups. So, the layout is set up for tables with two to four chairs. When it's crowded…

    Is the restaurant dog friendly?

Service animals only, but registered service animals, not some barking or easily distracted animal posing as one (which is a felony)

Are there high chairs now or a kids menu?

No there is not no high chairs or kid menus

Do you have to make a reservation or is walk ins fine?

With a reservation you will not have to wait if you just walk in it depends on how busy the restaurant is at the time you decide to go

Can my gf and I pop in here for a drink at the bar without having dinner? Is it realistic to think we could get a seat at the bar?…

    Yes, you can no issue.

Can you accommodate a party of 20?

No. You can reserve a table for two or for four, but not for a table of 6 which is walk-in (first come first serve) only. Other than those tables, there is seating at the bar.

Do they do anything special for birthdays or anniversaries?

Nothing crazy the regular like other restaurants but it's a treat to go there and I just visited the Irvine one where they had their key lime pie .... OMG now I felt like it was my birthday cause I got an extra slice to go.

Is there outdoor seating at the restaurant right now?

No unfortunately they do not. I'd go early or for lunch maybe not as crowded. But there is a bar so some people come in just to sit and have a drink. Next time would not sit so close to bar.

I would order the everything thing again tonight if I could go back. The ribeye was seared perfectly with a nice crust and yet medium rare on the inside. Don't even think about sauce because the steak has so much flavor. Nothing is needed. The restaurant is beautiful inside, and the service from the moment we arrived was excellent. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and professional throughout our dinner. We started with the bread, which was fresh and hot. For an appetizer, we ordered the ahi tartare. It was okay, but unfortunately, it seemed to have more avocado than tuna. For dinner, my wife ordered the petite filet and I ordered the ribeye. Both steaks were cooked perfectly to the temperatures we requested, but unfortunately, they lacked flavor. At this price point, we expected the steaks to be the highlight of the meal, and they simply weren't. The Brussels sprouts, however, were delicious. Our waitress noticed we weren't completely satisfied and asked about our meal. After we explained our concerns, she offered to have my ribeye remade. I appreciated the offer but declined because I didn't want my wife to have to wait while another steak was prepared. They did provide us with a dessert for the inconvenience, which was a thoughtful gesture. Overall, the service was great, but the food was disappointing. For the price, we expected a much better dining experience. Unfortunately, our first impression wasn't a good one, and we don't see ourselves returning.

We made dinner reservations same day on a Wednesday and arrived at 6pm. There was live jazz music playing in the bar to the left of the restaurant which set a nice romantic lively mood for the evening. There was a slight wait before the hostess escorted us to our table in a dimly lit room. Vibe was romantic, polished, and relaxed. Since it was my birthday, the hostess gifted me a "Happy Birthday" card with a thoughtful message inside. (Because we were celebrating my birthday, we received a free cheesecake dessert and pina colada cotton candy towards end of our meal -- it was spectacular). Eventually our gracious server Steven, arrived and introduced himself and provided us our dinner and drinks menu. Their drink menu was extensive and had a wide selection of wines and cocktails. One of my favorite parts of experience was the "Omakase" customized drink option (I'd come back just for that experience alone). My husband requested for a smoky, spicy cocktail with Tequila and what the server brought back to us was indescribably delicious. We can tell the mixologist who made our drink was a master at her craft. 10/10 recommend. For the food portion, we both selected the 4 course DineLA customized menu and got one of each item on the menu so we can try everything. We loved the Japanese fusion of flavors. I especially enjoyed the Appetizer Hamachi shots and Crispy Shrimp Amaebi. It had a refreshing balance of flavors that were good teasers for the next dish on menu, which was the Wedge salad (loved) and Beef Tataki (it was okay). Then came the main entree, which we both got the Filet mignon, which was a good standard steak at a fine dining steakhouse. I was slightly surprised the steak did not have any Japanese flavor notes since it's a Japanese fusion steakhouse. Nonetheless, that did not take away from our pleasant experience. Next time, I'd probably opt for a ribeye or tomahawk. Last but not least, the dessert finally came. We felt VERY spoiled because not only did we have the incredible flourless chocolate cake (my favorite) and mango sorbet (refreshing), we also got a cheesecake and cotton candy, which we were able to take home to enjoy later. We were beyond satisfied by end of our meal and would definitely consider coming back again. Thank you Alexander's Steakhouse for a great experience!

Overall, they've prepared the steak well, so it's not too well done and cooked to perfection at medium-rare. I'm kind of at a crossroads with the skirt steak for the price. I would expect better quality meat, but I can't complain overall about the taste of the skirt steak. I would have expected it to be better prepared and tenderized; it still had a bit of chewiness. I think you have to be an expert in how to prepare skirt steak so that it's not so tough. The ribeye was thick and juicy, so I can't complain about it, with a nice, warm, woody taste. I know it seems a bit weird coming to a steakhouse to try some of the fish, but I can't complain too much about the fish. It was coated in some sauce that made it delicious with a mix of vegetables to balance out the meal. The grilled octopus was prepared to perfection, as it remained juicy and not too tough, with a great taste in how they grilled it.

They took care of us from beginning to end. We had Lobster , Scallops, Steak , wagyu, Ribeye, Wedge Salad and drinks around the table. The food was delicious and really cooked well. Five stars all the way. Great time!!!

We were a party of six celebrating my girlfriend's birthday, and three of our orders came out incorrectly. Several steaks were overcooked, lacked flavor, and even the steaks prepared medium rare were surprisingly tough. The lobster add ons were incorrect as well. The salads were good, the shrimp appetizer actually had flavor, and the sweet corn brûlée was good and that's about it. We couldn't even get bread flowing properly for the table. I really hate to see a place we've enjoyed visiting miss on so many levels in one evening. For the price point, I expect much better service, attention to detail, and overall food quality. There are simply too many great dining options in the area to have an experience like this. And honestly, when you leave a steakhouse thinking, "Heck, I cook better than this," something went wrong. Unfortunately, this visit just wasn't it.

We took advantage of the Restaurant Week promo and headed to try this place out. The parking appears to be valet only; however, is complimentary with your visit (please tip the valet). We went inside and it definitely has a rustic old-timey feel with the red leather booths and all the artwork and memorabilia around the restaurant. Overall, the visit was very good. I had the following for dinner: For an appetizer, I had the spiced meatballs. They were absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and had an amazing sauce. I also got to try the calamari, which was equally as incredible. For the entree, I had the bacon wrapped filet. Again, cooked to perfection and the taste was wonderful. The side was definitely not quite right. I got the garlic mashed potatoes. They were the most plain potatoes I have ever had. No garlic, no salt, no seasoning. I think they might have accidentally missed the seasoning. For dessert, I tried the bread pudding. It was good; however, I was expecting more from the dessert. Our server was on the face very nice; however, he also was very robotic in his responses. For example, he never let you finish your answer after he asked a question, before replying again and walking away. So overall, an excellent experience. I would return again and give it another try!
