We stopped in while we were in town. Houston has become so corporate- there is no flexibility at all. We had a 9 pm reservation, we didn't realize that meant we would only be allowed to have one drink. We were seated and served promptly-the same quality and consistency that we receive in Dallas. The problem is they no longer will do anything special- no longer have the soup of the day - can't order a coffee martini. Here is our issue- we were seated and served. We were rushed and had to leave the table because it started to rain. When we went to order a second drink, we were told they closed and we could no longer order another. They are so use to people just accepting the lack of service and accommodation that they don't have to be a service oriented establishment. One day they may realize that their customers are the reason that they are still in business and value their patronage- instead of just not caring. That's the problem they just don't care about the customer . This has become an ongoing problem. The location and atmosphere at this Houston's is prime. The open kitchen is pretty cool if you choose to sit inside which also offers a very nice view of the intercoastal which was my favorite part. The menu was simple I really appreciated because I busy menu can be overwhelming at times. We chose to sit outside which was nice and shaded and cool but I had to swat a lot of flies away. My waitress was excellent and I noticed that the other waitresses would help one another no matter whose table it was. I got the fish sandwich with coleslaw and it was excellent. I only wish they had a Mac and cheese side dish on the menu. Well seasoned and breaded. I would certainly come back for a dinner service. Highly recommended read more

I wish you could give a negative star review. Whoever decided to change their policy to no parties over 4 needs to get their head examined. As is good there , heard patrons denied because of party size, dress code etc... They are supposedly a "fine dining" restaurant now. The outrageous staff started from the second we walked in. The host was yelling at us the second we walked in and said she could not accommodate a party of 7. How can you not accommodate a party of 7 on Friday night. Then we ate and we went to the other table due to them splitting us up and we were told to sit down. Me and my family came in a party of seven. They said they could not accommodate a party that size. We understood and we absolutely were ready to wait for two separate tables. They absolutely refused, would not even put us on the list. They said they would recommend another restaurant. Ridiculous. We have never had this issue. We are visiting from out of state, but we are originally from Deerfield. We come to Houstons every chance we get. Let me first start this review by saying how much we love the Boca Raton Houston's location. The staff there could not be any better, and they provide a fantastic food and beverage experience every time we go there. We arrived at Houston's in Pompano Beach a little after prime lunch time on 9/14/22 as a party of six and were told by the valet parking attendant that they only seat parties of 4 or less. We thought that sounded very peculiar but said we would go in and split up at different tables if necessary. The hostess was overtly rude immediately upon greeting me at the host stand and stated that since we were a party of 6, she would not be able to accommodate us, and had no suggestions other than suggesting we try somewhere else. At the time we arrived, there were plenty of open bar seats and tables, both inside and on their patio. We had family in from out of town and had just gotten off our boat nearby, everyone was hungry, so I thought there had to be a way that we could make everyone happy while still honoring the restaurant's policy. I suggested that my wife and her friend would sit at the bar and then the remaining 4 people could sit at a table. Nope. She said since we were a party of 6 that she could not accommodate us. I asked her if we were speaking the same language since what I had suggested clearly worked within the parameters of what the restaurant's policy was, even though it's a pretty silly policy. I said how about this, what if we all walk out of here like we never came in and we come back separately as a group of two to sit at the bar, and another group of 4 to sit at a table. HARD NO again from the hostess and she again stated since we were a party of six that she could not accommodate us. It was absolutely astonishing in the worst way possible. With all due respect, she was one of the most brain-dead people I have ever come across in my lifetime - and believe me I have dealt with some extremely subhuman people in my lifetime. Bottom line, the management at this location should probably get the blonde hostess with pulled back hair into a different position at this restaurant. She should most certainly not be the first point of contact that guests have when entering the establishment, especially if she cannot successfully problem solve a simple situation like ours. read more

I want to start by saying the food was phenomenal (started with the bread, amazing Cesar, had the trout and red cabbage which was absolutely delicious) and the service was great, perfect ambiance and outdoor seating. However, upon eating my trout I pulled a hair out of my mouth and it was nothing short of traumatizing. So I told them and they apologized and offered to comp the meal for me and to order something else, but at that point my appetite was killed so I just asked for a drink instead and then they brought me the wrong drink. I absolutely love Houston's as I dine here at least once a week. Everyone has their off days and I will always respect that but I will never be returning. I arrive for Sunday lunch at 3 PM and was quoted 1hr wait time. decided to visit the bar and have a cocktail. I assume they are still operating on Covid limitations because the restaurant is only ever at about half capacity lately. The bar had a few parties sitting at it and one very busy but amazing bartender. Getting drinks took an extremely long time and inefficient today. I felt so bad for how frazzled and busy Connor was. we stopped ordering to help let him slow down. after about an 1.5 hr wait I finally got seated at a table. We ordered apps and the two others in my party enjoyed a few more cocktails. My requests for beverages whether water or alcohol seemed to be ignored. As the DD, I only average 1-2 drinks anyway. Our waitress made us feel quite rushed about putting in food orders and came over every 2-3 minutes. We were finally ready to order and the menu item I ordered was not available since "lunch" was over. I was presented a lunch menu at 4:30 PM so I was under the impression I could order from it. The waitress kind of made me feel like an idiot for wanting to order a lunch only item at dinner. Our glasses sat empty and when they did get refilled it took 20-25 minutes to get a new one. One at my table ordered the Hawaiian steak and it was overdone to her liking. We aren't big complainers so she ate it but I wanted to let the manager know they were off their usual great behavior today. I called him over, Aaron, and politely told him that I am a bit disappointed in my experience today. I was just in on Tuesday and had a wonderful meal and service. He told me it was "a sunday so what did I expect". He also felt that everything I was saying was very funny. I was very calmly and politely telling him so that the next time I come in hopefully my visit will be better. It was positive steps for improvement, esp since they are so busy. I felt very disrespected. He truly made me feel like I was asking for something for free. I never mentioned any food being bad or anything. I had no expectation of receiving anything for free and I told him that. He found that even funnier. I started to get upset and embarrassed that he felt like our conversation was hilarious and not important. my sister noticed he was belittling me &she told him to please not speak to me that way. He got extremely defensive becoming nasty. She also asked if we would be able to pay cash today as literally 2 min before he came over to our table her credit card was hit with a fraud alert. She was worried it may not go through. He laughed in her face and said absolutely not. Totally understand they have policy, we were unaware. She wasn't sure if it was allowed since covid is "over" at many places. I said to him ok I will pay credit card no worries thanks anyway. I felt like he was so bothered by me wanting to speak with him. Unfortunately he kept going and His nastiness started an argument. I understand that there is not reason to disrespect anyone especially service workers, but as a manager you respect your guests. They went back and forth until she told him to please leave our table. He then screamed at her to leave "his restaurant". She happily abided to not cause problems. I was silent and finishing my meal. As my sister was being escorted out, patrons at other tables decided to call her names.One being a "fat ugly pig" and the other telling them to "arrest that nasty woman". So uncalled for. I was then told I had to leave immediately. As he followed us out he told valet not to give us the car keys as my sister was highly intoxicated (False). But, I was 100% sober and was driving anyway so he had no right to make that comment. He also called us "pompanos finest" which is funny bc I live in ftl not pompano.I am humiliated by not only Aaron but the other patrons. As a young woman, being spoken to/removed by a demeaning male manager & treated like a criminal is horrifying. read more

Thanks for using paper straws too (we personally don't even need straws btw) but we would also love it if you would switch to paper-based to-go containers. Vacationers take note! This is a must visit if staying in or around Fort Lauderdale. My wife and I loved it. Valet was quick and check-in was unique. We were given a 35 minute wait time and wanted to spend it on the dock behind the restaurant. Instead of calling names over a PA system, they actually come to get you when your table is ready. Pretty cool right? Dinner was great. I had the rack of ribs and straw fries. Ribs were fall off the bone delicious. Just enough BBQ sauce and smooth enough for a plastic fork to cut. We set outside with a perfect view of the water. As for service, we had Tyler. He was awesome. So, for great service, great food, and a great view, highly recommend Houstons. read more

Went to Houston's tonight for a business dinner thinking it was a steakhouse (my bad). I was wrong. They have three options on their menu for steak. I ordered the Hawaiian ribeye (I always order the ribeye or delmonico) and asked if they could leave the sauce off and just make me the ribeye and they said no, so in a hurry, I said sure, whatever. I ordered it rare and it was a gray/pink in the middle which was a bit of a turn off. When I bit into it, my teeth curled from how sweet it is. I ate half (I was raised to be courteous) and brought the other half home so my partner could try it and his words were "this is not how a steak should taste". Next time we have a business dinner, we'll be going to Del Friscos. The off the menu jumbo shrimp app was really good and service was top notch. Too bad they marinate their steak instead of seasoning it with salt and pepper. It's a reminder to not stray from what you know. read more

A staple of Pompano Beach, you can never go wrong with Houston's. The service is very detail oriented, friendly and professional and the food is perfect every time. The grilled artichokes, which are only available in season, are the best ever. When they are not in season :( go for the spinach and artichoke dip, a classic, that is accompanied by salsa and sour cream. The Hawaiian rib eye and the prime rib are my two favorite entrees, but I can pretty much guarantee everything on the menu will be a hit. Arrive early because they don't take reservations (except for larger parties) and there's always a wait for the outside seating as it is located on the main intracoastal. Parking is limited to a small lot on the side of the restaurant, but there is complimentary valet. read more

With spinach dip if they originally don't give enough chips and you ask for a few more - "there's a charge", never used to be like that. 2. You order the Traditional Salad, but are vegetarian and want another protein substitute instead of bacon like avocado- "there's a charge" - Or instead blue cheese - we don't have that. Didn't used to be like that - and remember the cheese bread? 3. What soup do you have today? (It's Saturday) - we don't have soup today. No soup? Didn't that used to be one of their signatures? 4. My friend ordered a shot of tequila and a beer - a. "We don't serve shots. Can only pour neat" (which is 2 oz.) b. and ... "You can't drink the 2 together we have a one at a time drink rule. " These "rules " we've not experienced before, and in the past not here . Yes, it's a great atmosphere, but with so many other great choices here in the area, we just don't need to go here. The hostess Alex began to harass us because we were 5 people sitting in a booth. There is no ordinance it is a new rule there, no tables inside of more than 4 people. They only have two tables for more than 4 that are outside. Then the manager Alex came over to tell us we were ruining the intimate experience of Houston's by having one extra person at the table who wasn't even eating. She said the extra person had 1 minute to leave the table... are you kidding me Houston's?? All i heard through my dining experience was a blonde kitchen manager yelling at the servers. It was disruptive & i felt bad for the servers. Obviously there were some people training and i felt like all i heard was the blonde kitchen person yelling. I was unable to enjoy my French dip sandwich because i was so sad for the servers getting screamed at. Very bad customer service!! Came in from out of town looking to enjoy a meal. However, after telling the host we were a party of 5, she replied we do not serve parties more than 4. We then told her that we will sit 2 and 3 and have separate tabs. She kindly told us she could not break parties up. We explained there is one married couple and 3 other Adults. She stated we're still a party of 5 since we came in that way. After asking for the manager, she refused to seat us as well. This is so unprofessional and bad business. Showed up at 8:20 for an 8:30 reservation, the restaurant was half empty but didn't get seated until 8:45. The hostess was extremely rude and had an attitude when we asked why we are standing around at 8:40 for an 8:30 reservation when it's half empty. DO NOT visit this location. My family and I have never been treated so poorly in our lives!! The manager was the most rude person I have ever felt with. We are on vacation and chose Houston's to meet up with family we haven't seen in 10 years. First, they do not accommodate large parties. They "accommodated us" by putting our tables across from each other but we were given a strict lecture that we could not switch seats or move around. We were told someone had to sit with our children at all times (they are 11 and 8 and were sitting quietly playing on their iPads.) I agreed to sit with them, but while waiting for our food I went to sit near a family member I haven't seen in years. I was right across from my kids table - I could reach out and touch them. The manager immediately came over and told me I had to be sitting right next to my kids. I told her I was right there I could touch them, and they were just sitting quietly. She did not care at all and told me I had to move. At this point, my kids got their 40.00 plate of ribs and 25.00 hamburger, because they don't have a kids meal. I explained that we were a party of 11 and they would be getting a nice tip from me. She did not care. She would rather lose our business and tips then be a normal human being and see that the situation did not call for her response. I will NEVER go here again!!!!! While enjoying our dinner Staff Michael Ortiz came to our table and stated we had been sitting there for too long and that people were waiting with reservations to be sat. We would have been done if they didn't mess up our order (which took forever) He asked us to move to the bar before we could even finish our dinner. How rude. Mr. Ortiz made my guest feel uncomfortable and wanted to leave. Never have I experienced such lack of manners and professionalism.
