We have lived a short walk from Houston's for over five years now. In fact, we walk our dogs right by the front door on most mornings. But, we've never gone in. What the hell were we waiting for?!? From the time we walked through the (heavy) front door, until a greeter chased me out that door with my forgotten phone in her hand, there was not a single misstep. Place looks great. Service was spectacular. Burgers (which many people have told me about) were spot on. Sides of fries and their wild rice, perfect - including the often problematic burger buns. The key lime pie was divine. The service was friendly and sincere. The vibe of the place was lively during World Cup soccer. Reservations highly recommended. We were here for lunch. This classy establishment has a dress code. One man came in wearing a "wifebeater" (white tank top) and was quietly and quickly redirected from the main dining area to the bar area. Our experience at Houston's was less than expected. Firstly, the building is very nice but a bit dated. The A/C was insufficient on a hot July evening. The water service has no ice which I found irritating coupled with the lack of A/C. They do not have a whiskey list which is lacking for a high end steakhouse. Everything felt very old-fashioned and outdated. I visited the bar and found a weak selection of hooch to choose from. Our server was super friendly but not as informed as he should have been. He mislead me about the salad ingredients. He told me the traditional salad was iceburg but it was artisan lettuce, cabbage, and kale. I asked for blue cheese dressing and got essentialy a slab of blue cheese. See pic. No complaints - just wierd and probably blows the food costs sky high. My double cut pork chop was delicious. Be advised it is not cooked to order. It seems to be a smoked chop reheated but it was tasty and moist inside. The sides were very disappointing. My brocolini was soaked in lemon juice and the braised cabbage was sweetened with sugar. My wife's sausage and chicken was bland. The cole slaw was acceptable. The food pricing was under market but still high for the quality and execution. $17 for a Makers Mark on the rocks is a bit steep especially since they have no clear whiskety cubes. I am a frequent guest at the related Hillstone brand in Winter Park Florida, and the restaurant group is consistently "elevated" in fare and service. Also, I appreciate the more adult-focused atmosphere, and dress code. Similar vibe at the Scottsdale Road Houston's. Friendly professional service with Emily (drinks at the community table, as we were waiting for a bar vacancy), and matching friendly service at the bar with Tyler. We had a bowl of Clam Chowder to start, and dove into the Cedar Plank Salmon, and the GF had the Pan Asian Noodle Salad. The Salmon is consistently above average at Houston's and a main reason for the visit. I dabbled in the Asian Salad which was also worthy (I would add a protein if it was my dish). We were eager to visit Houston's while staying nearby in Scottsdale and it did not disappoint. This place is busy, and even though we arrived only 30 minutes after they opened for a nice lunch, they were already on a wait in both the dining room and bar. Reservations are highly recommended. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. We had a light lunch consisting of their shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and I had the house salad and my husband the chicken Caesar. This place is always 5 stars in my book. I've never had a bad meal and I love their takeout, however you do have to takeout before 5pm. My favorites are the spinach artichoke dip (perfect), cabbage and goat cheese (so frikin good), pan Asian noodle salad, house made veggie burger, French dip (unreal), the shrimp cocktail is delicious and the little shrimp that comes with the trout you could eat a bowl of it. I was seated at the north end of the bar, by myself, on a slow Saturday afternoon. Bartenders M and S were so incredibly inattentive to customers beyond the middle of the bar. S was on his phone trying to hide in the little hallway between the bar and the kitchen. At one point I had to go to the reservationist /greeting stand to ask one of the hosts to get their attention. Amazing! It's a great place. Dim lighting but not too dark to see the menu. Gives a little fancier vibe. Dress to impress. They only allow reservations for smaller parties, I believe 4 is the max. The staff is extremely friendly and very attentive. Now the food, yummy! The ribeye is my absolute favorite and a huge portion as I always end up taking half home. My parents split the ribs and wow they literally licked the plate clean. Their fries are cooked in duck fat...so good! For a chain, it's actually pretty good, and the ambiance has that comfortable, slightly-upscale neighborhood vibe--perfect for when you just want a good burger and fries without the fuss. We ordered the artichoke hearts, the fried chicken sandwich, and the ahi steak. The ahi came out perfectly rare, which was on point and honestly a pleasant surprise. We hadn't been here in nearly two decades, but a friend kept raving about their key lime pie, so of course we had to try it. It was... fine. Nothing life-changing. Houstons never let's us down! Its always a relaxing, delicious experience. I have to warn you though a reservation is recommended. They can get busy. And I don't like to wait. We love their appetizers. We usually have their fries, shrimp and artichokes if available. We had their Red Ruby trout. Grace our server recommended it and it was delicious. One of my favorite restaurants in the Scottsdale area. I love coming here for intimate settings like a girls lunch or date night. I would say it's better for smaller groups and it's dark on the inside so have your flashlights ready for the menu! We came here for lunch. Arrived at Houston's for lunch 1:00pm. Was not happy had to wait 20 to 25 minutes for three people. But the wait was worth it. My wife had her Asian salad, our friend had the fish special and for me the chicken crispy sandwich. We always start with the house smoked Salmon. But the reason for a five star is the Key Lime Pie...This is easy my top 5.. My tip is if everything is going bad for you try the best Key Lime Pie in Arizona. It was an amazing dish. She was was very friendly and checked on us often. We ordered the spinach dip and it was amazing as always. Three of us had the grilled chicken salad and the flavor profile is so good. It is my go to there. The fourth got the Hawaiian Ribeye and I had a piece it was tasty. From the moment we arrived, the service was slow and disappointing. Our initial waitress did not acknowledge our table or take our drink order until approximately 20 minutes after we were seated. When our food arrived, the ribs were burnt. To the chef's credit, they were remade, but the replacement portion was noticeably smaller than the original full slab that had been served. The ribeye was acceptable, but it was not served at an appropriately hot temperature. After finishing our meal, we paid our bill. About 10 minutes later, we decided we wanted to order dessert drinks. We were informed by the manager that because we had already closed our tab, we could not return to our booth and would instead have to sit at the cocktail tables because our booth was needed for a large party. I expressed my concerns to the general manager, Ralph, who confirmed that we would indeed have to move because we had already paid our bill. I have never encountered a policy like this at any restaurant. Paying a bill should not prevent guests from continuing to enjoy their dining experience, especially when they intend to spend more money. Overall, the experience was unprofessional and unwelcoming. Between the slow service, food quality issues, and the way we were treated at the end of our visit, we were left feeling as though our business was no longer valued. This level of service is unacceptable, and unfortunately, it does not reflect the standard we expected. read more

We tried this place recently for dinner and had a great experience. The dimly lit dining room sets a nice, romantic ambiance. Our party of three sat comfortably at our table. We started with the chilled jumbo shrimp and French fries up front that came with 2 dipping sauces. My wife enjoyed her filet that came with broccoli and potatoes colcannon. I tried the Hawaiian ribeye and it came with a baked potato. The ribeye had great flavor and cooked perfectly. They don't have a kids menu which may not be the vibe they are going for, but my daughter loved the shrimp, so we made it work. read more

Food was a miss but bar service was excellent! This restaurant has the vibe that you would expect from a classic steak restaurant with the booths and dark lighted atmosphere. Plus a long bar. On a Wednesday this restaurant was hopping at 5pm. The bar was full and they had a waitlist. The restaurant was full with people having an early dinner! At the other Houston's I've never experienced a wait list before! At first I was put off but as the bar crowd poured in around 530pm, I learned that this was a good idea to take the crowd! After waiting for about 15 minutes, we got a seat at the bar. Note while we were waiting, we were able to grab a drink at the side bar and relax. At the bar we had amazing service. The staff was very attentive! And they made sure to keep our martinis cold by refreshing our glasses. Even the water glasses were child! As for food: food was a miss tonight! We ordered a filet for about 62 dollars with a bake potato. We ordered our steak medium rare plus and came pretty raw. Even the bartender agreed it was not cooked properly. We sent the steak back, shortly later we were presented with our same steak. The steak was then slightly overcooked thus tough. Plus they "recooked " our potato thus the yummy skin was uneatable due to be overcooked. The restaurant should have provided us with a new potato. For inconvenience on the steak and it still not being cooked properly the restaurant should have compensated us in some manner. Based on tonight's experience and money spent, I would come for drinks and service only! Based on being frequent guest to their restaurants, we have found this to be the best option. Tip: don't expect an espresso martini at their restaurants, corporate does not allow for this drink. Tip: get the wedge with blue cheese dressing rather than thousand island. I just can't do seed oils and I can't do margarine so I only do butter and certain oils. I played it safe by ordering the ribs, broccoli, and corn although I thought my meal was pretty good, I had taken some ribs home, and my husband said that he didn't like him because there wasn't any smoked flavor to the ribs, lol. My girlfriend ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. When it arrived, she was concerned because it wasn't the Caesar salad, and it wasn't the dressing. Our waitress explained that it was the Caesar salad and it wasn't a traditional Caesar salad because it had corn and kale and blah blah blah, but it wasn't Caesar salad dressing so we made her take it back. It was as if they didn't believe that they had the wrong dressing on it! I asked for a little side of the Caesar salad so we could make sure.. What she gave us was totally different than what was on the salad. Ralph brought us out their take on the Caesar salad. I had explained to him that we had to get the menu back to look at the descriptions and at no where there was any mention of peanut or peanut oil in the Caesar salad! I explained to Ralph that could have been a very serious mistake if she or I would've been allergic to peanuts! He was not apologetic, nor did he offer to comp it or even give her, her salad at 50% off. That was a very poor decision. Well, their version of a Caesar salad should've been listed as an oil. Houston's brand rarely disappoints. Food quality and service are consistently very good. On a recent trip to Scottsdale, we walked in at 5pm and met Robert, the front desk host. He was extremely friendly and professional, a perfect front man for this brand. More importantly, however, we had the good fortune of being seated in a section that was headed up by Sushant, a young, energetic, attentive and kind server, who was easily the best waiter we have had at any Houston's brand restaurant from Napa to Orlando. In fact, my wife and I felt that he might have been in the top 3 servers that we have ever encountered at any restaurant in our 34 years of marriage. The food, as expected, was on point. I ordered a wedge salad which I normally love. The best part of a wedge for me is the crunch of the head of lettuce, the thick juicy tomatos, and blue cheese crumbles. Well, the lettuce was soggy, no crunch. There were no blue cheese crumbles, they used bit cherry tomatos which were mushy and somewhat warm. The wedge itself was also much smaller and flimsier than I expected. I finished it and was still starving so went up the street and ordered another snack. I'm sorry to say not worth a $20 tab. When I asked about add-ons, I was given the option of rotisserie chicken which didn't sound appetizing so I'm glad I didn't add that on, but surprised there weren't more options. I ordered the steak and my first date ordered the salmon. We also had two glasses of wine, artichoke appetizer and key lime pie for desert. The salmon was undercooked, the medium steak was like rubber, the baked potato was cold and the artichoke appetizer was ok, but a little too burnt. The atmosphere and service were ok. The wine, coleslaw and desert were fine, but everything else was a lot different than when I was there the two times before that. It was embarrassing. I was telling my date how great this place was and I could tell she was very disappointed. It was not a good first impression for her. I took the steak home and fead it to the dogs. No Arnold Palmer, a perfect drink year round... I took the server's word that the Ahi tuna salad was one of the best sellers. I wish I could've sent it back. They should back go back to the way that Houston's made it. The sauce was absolutely awful. The fish was difficult to cut incredibly. Lots of nice avocados and I think there was mangoes on the plate. I would have a hard time going back to Houston with this menu. My friend had the noodles salad, and she thought it was just blah.
