First time checking out Houston's and it did not disappoint. The restaurant offered a casual elegant vibe with dark wood and cool, red leather booths. The food was amazing. We had the Hawaiian ribeye and fillet. Our server McKenna was awesome and very attentive. She answered all my questions and accommodated my order no problem. The filet came out a little over cooked. When we brought it up to our server, she sent over the manager charlie - who immediately corrected it no problems asked. Not only did they bring out a new steak, but an entire new entree. Houston's is an incredibly nostalgic place for me. I used to visit the Pasadena location. To have one in Scottsdale is such a treat. This is where I go on the nights I need to just relax and be alone for an hour. I love to sit at the bar listening to an audiobook, or reading my latest novel. I try to keep to myself, but I've also met some really cool people here. The food is always great as is the service. I love the low lights and the way they play my favorite Federico Aubele every single time. Hubby is not a big fan of Houston's (I know, how??? He had to have one fault I guess) and they are not fans of kids here, so it has to be my solo spot. Although more recently I've had a standing date with two very special girlfriends and we dish and laugh the whole night. The menu here is easy: always get the grilled artichoke (when in season). Pick between the Hawaiian ribeye, the Thai noodle salad or the ribs (I usually go ribs) with a baked potato. And always, always get the hot fudge sundae. Minus 2 stars for taking away the option to add steak to the noodle salad and for there always being an insane line to sit at the bar. Add one star for having Prisoner wine and for the chilled martini glass change. Nice touch! read more

We came as a party of five plus a baby to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday, and this location completely let us down. I even called ahead to note the special occasion, but nothing was acknowledged. We were told our party was "too big for a booth" and were split between two separate tables with separate servers, making it impossible to sit together as a family. Our reservation was 20+ minutes late, the restrooms were dirty, and a medium steak arrived rare. What really shocked me was seeing an elderly gentleman fall near the front desk while we were waiting. Staff offered almost no assistance, and when the ambulance arrived, the EMTs had to ask for a chair--something he should have been given immediately. It was unsettling and showed a real lack of care. After 15 years of loyalty to this restaurant chain, this location does not meet the standards we're used to. Unfortunately, they managed to ruin a special occasion. What a disappointment read more

Extremely disappointing experience, especially as a longtime customer and it was a slow word than usual night for Christmas Eve. The hostess was shockingly rude and set the tone for the entire visit. A friend briefly came over to say hello and was treated with open hostility--scowled at, spoken to condescendingly, and ultimately made to wait on a bench at the front door until we finished eating. There were open tables available, and rather than simply moving us or handling the situation with any grace, she chose the most humiliating and unnecessary approach possible. This is not hospitality. It felt like she had a chip on her shoulder and clearly did not want to be there. Restaurants like this need host staff with maturity and an actual understanding--and love--of hospitality, because this interaction was embarrassing, awkward, and completely avoidable. Unfortunately, the service and food followed suit. The food was subpar and clumsy, plates arrived dirty, the appetizer and entrée were dropped at the same time, and the table was cleared almost immediately after we took our last bite. We felt rushed out rather than welcomed. I've been a loyal customer for years, but after this experience, they've lost two regulars. read more

The bartenders here are always so friendly and all of the food is amazing. We had two cocktails each yesterday and shared the shrimp cocktail which was maybe the best I've ever had. We sat in the bar area which wasn't where I wanted to sit but where my date wanted to. That said the hostesses were very friendly upon entering the restaurant and the bartender was also very friendly with a warm smile. He was engaging to the other patrons who were sitting at the bar. We had a weird combination as my date wanted to order french fries which was served uniquely in a silver cup shown in the photograph. It was an appetizer small size and just average. I ordered a caesar salad which was very average. We shared the warm apple walnut cobbler which was delicious. The only thing I can say negative was it had a very tiny scoop of ice cream. I did not feel I had enough of an opportunity to evaluate the food and because the atmosphere was so pleasant including the hostesses and bartender I rated it at a level five stars. read more

However, I ordered the cheeseburger which was quartered , had some little dried pieces of hamburger with a bunch of lettuce, pickles etc. It was really bad. So disappointing. Been going to this restaurant for over 20 years, and found myself completely disgusting, tonight we arrived a little before 4 pm. As we were entering the restaurant. As there was an elderly women, I would say in her mid 80. She was so excited because it was her birthday and was telling her family that this was her favorite restaurant. She was using a walker and oxygen when she reached the she podium she was told the restaurant what was at fully committed. She was so disappointed and left. She even shared with hosts that she had drove 40 minutes. My husband and myself did have dinner and left after dinner at 6:45pm. during that entire time 2 1/2 hours, the restaurant had several empty tables available. We spoke with the bartender and they said they do this every Wednesday, after 6:00 the restaurant magically has tables available. I did speak with the floor manager Sydney and told what I had witnessed and what the Bartender told us. She looked confused and said maybe I misunderstood. I didn't. Not sure what fully Committed at the Houston restaurant really means, because the whole time we were there, there were many tables that were open. I just felt bad seeing an elderly lady treated so poorly. Houston start reading your reviews, and get your hostess station in check. Many complaints, many customers will not be returning. read more

First time at Houston's Restaurant. Easter Sunday for lunch and a party of two. Friend and I were immediately seated with no reservations. That could be a good thing or perhaps not so good. Service was excellent, and very impressive. Thought the menu we were provided was just a lunch menu, however, it is the lunch and dinner menu. Prices are posted on Yelp as 3 stars so bring a credit card as they prefer to handle cashless transactions. Forgot to mention they have guidelines for dining attire and dining etiquette. They recommend that you review. The reference to Houston's as a steakhouse on Yelp is a bit of a far reach. It is not a steakhouse, although the menu does offer a choice of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and main courses, which include a Hawaiian Ribeye Steak. I ordered the sausages with a grilled chicken thigh and cole slaw. Friend ordered the bowl of chili. We shared a grilled artichoke and a shrimp cocktail. The appetizers were exceptional. The meal I had was very good. Friend was not impressed with the chili. We split a key lime pie slice and it was very tasty. Houston's has a small "booklet" on dress attire and dining etiquette guidelines. Guess they did not get the memo about that in Arizona. Their policy seems to cover cell phones, laptops, hats, tank tops, flip flops, team attire, very small children, size of groups, and special dining requests. To be blunt, "I have never seen that much pretentious and arrogant b.s. printed on fine paper to enhance your dining experience. In any event, can now say I have dined at Houston's at least once. Yelpers on this one averaged 3.7 stars out of 5. So be sure to review their booklet on etiquette before you go. Otherwise their expectation of an acceptable diner may not be met. read more

I've seen Houston's around when traveling in the southern states. Meeting family for dinner, the interior is darker woods and low lighting. Service was very good, and our servers were all attentive and gladly answered questions. They had specials of the day that we were told, and we settled on their Artichoke dip app and shared the full-rack barbecue ribs plate with my niece. I had a few of the ribs and they were good. The bones were long and lean, so there was a good bit of tender meat. I liked that the barbecue sauce was not overwhelming nor too much slathered on; I could definitely still taste the meat protein. Prices are on the fine dinning end. It was nice trying this new southern-states chain. Based on how the restaurant seemed to fill up as the night went on, they are definitely known. price point is fine dinning level. read more

They cut the burger into 4 insane pieces and plates each piece like denny's club sandwich. There is absolutely no reason for them to do this. It dries out the meat and makes each piece soggy after a few minutes. All burger places know you're not supposed to expose the patty like this. Each piece is a pia to eat too because it's so small. I told the manager. She laughed it off and walked away. She told me to contact hq. She could've just said "I'll let them know" 0/5 for the manager, 0/5 for acting like children with the plating, 4/5 for the taste of the first piece, and 2/5 for the fourth piece. read more

Houston's was a mile away but it closed at 10 and it was 9:36pm so we felt rude walking in...however the we were welcomed by an amazingly friendly staff! They said "of course we are open and happy to seat you" The restaurant was super clean! Such great lighting!!! the ambience was perfection! Our waitress had the sweetest personality and best name ever SHIRE! She explained the menu super well and told us about the days specials. She knew the menu really really well and made us feel super welcomed. The food came out and was immaculate!!!! The drinks were refilled even before we could ask. My first time at Houston's as a guest of a man that truly loves this restaurant. The food was phenomenal, large portions ...perfectly cooked fish., I had the salmon. And the dishes arrived quickly. The ambience is lovely, old world charm with ribbon mahogany veneer padded cozy booths. A slight upgrade would be to provide floor lighting at the transition of the tile flooring to the carpet area. A bit dark. Also another slight upgrade, the wait staff seems to share random feelings about un-food related items. Not interesting. Taylor was our server and I have to admit that the whole experience was amazing. She was engaged with us and very attentive to our dinner experience. I hadn't been to Houston's for a few years as I've been trying to experience restaurants I've never dined at previously. We popped in at the last minute and were not surprised that there was a 90 minute wait for restaurant seating. We headed to the seating in the bar area and enjoyed a nice bottle of wine. Casey was our bartended and was very pleasant. We added our names to the bar wait list (yes, they have a wait list!) and were seated a short time later. We prefer sitting at the bar anyway so it worked out well. I order a dirty martini and thank goodness they know how to make a properly chilled martini! Thank you! Other restaurants should take note! So often bars will serve a warmer martini. Why? Not good. We ordered the grilled artichoke which was absolutely delicious. Followed by the ribs that were fall off the bone and the cheeseburger with fries. I asked for a medium cook and they delivered! Both meals were on point. Headed over with a friend at approx 5:30p on a Sat night. You have to give your name to the bartender if there is a wait to sit at the bar. You can sit at the small area across from the bar and they do provide a server for that. We started there and got a drink and then the artichoke appetizer which was amazing. Then moved over to the bar had another drink and ordered the salmon dinner which was wonderfully moist and tasty. Caesar salad loaded baked potato, which was huge. They should back go back to the way that Houston's made it. The sauce was absolutely awful. The fish was difficult to cut incredibly. Lots of nice avocados and I think there was mangoes on the plate. I would have a hard time going back to Houston with this menu. My friend had the noodles salad, and she thought it was just blah. It was Sunday brunch time and the place was empty so maybe other people are feeling the same way we feel about the New Way,. Houston is being run. This restaurant has been a CONSISTENTLY quality player in the Old Town area for DECADES. Dark wood with a southwestern flare, superbly-trained staff, a delicious menu, open kitchen ... this is right on the happy border of your favorite neighborhood hangout ... and fine dining. The place is always busy, so make a reservation . Even bar seating requires that you get on the "list" kept by the bartender, so don't expect to just toddle in at Happy Hour and sit down for a drink. We had a reservation for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids under 8). When our babysitter fell through, our 2-year-old had to come along as a 5th. Instead of any flexibility or basic human understanding, we were flat-out refused seating at our already reserved 4-top booth. The host told us our toddler could not sit on my lap because she is "a person" and can "walk." Let that sink in. A toddler on a parent's lap was treated as a violation worthy of turning away a reservation. We even offered to sit in the booth, where space clearly would not have been an issue, but it was obvious they simply did not want to seat us. To make it worse, we were told we'd need to wait 1.5-2 hours for a 5-person table--despite already having a reservation--essentially punishing us for having a child with us. This restaurant has a reputation for not liking kids, and they lived up to it in the worst way possible. This wasn't about fire codes or space. It was about attitude. If families aren't welcome here, they should be honest about it instead of hiding behind ridiculous excuses. Save yourself the frustration (and embarrassment) and dine somewhere that treats people--yes, even small ones--with basic respect. read more

Hubby (originally from Kansas) just discovered this Houston's Steakhouse in Scottsdale. There was one in Kansas City on The Plaza -- a favorite haunt for special occasions. But they pulled out of KC years ago, much to Hubby's dismay. So, it was fitting to drive down to the Valley today from Prescott for an early Christmas feast. Hubby was really looking forward to it; was it still good? The food was excellent & the service impeccable; they had a full house today, but our waiter was attentive and personable. So disappointed with Houston's. It has been our favorite place since living here. We had reservation at 6, we were served by a manager. We have been at this place hundreds of times so we know they stand on great customer service and killing team work. Every time we have been there the waitress and team has been on point. Today, however, we get seated get drinks and we don't see the waitress- manager till 30 minutes later. I thought that if the manager served the service would be exceptional...... not the case at all. We couldn't even get a second tea in 30 minutes nor order. So bummed because we have always had great service. read more

Service is excellent here, we have dined at Houston's many times. They are a Hillstone property so same company. Was very busy on a Monday night , no dining specials were offered. Artichokes are not in season yet and they are the best. Check after the holidays for them. We shared the French dip. Excellent sandwich. Shaved prime rib was very tender and a nice au jus on the side. The red beans and rice soup of the day was excellent. We shared an apple cobbler for dessert and it was excellent. We are here from Vegas and very accustom to nice steak houses. My daughter and I are staying up the street and wanted a good meal to celebrate my other daughter having her baby. We loved the bar (waited just a little bit to be seated there) the drinks were amazing, we got the artichoke and shrimp as an appetizer.. the artichoke was delicious, shrimp were ok, then we shared the wedge salad (my daughter didn't like it) I ate most of it as I really wanted a salad. It had way too much dressing, but was editable. Then we shared the salmon and loaded potato which was really good. The reason there are not more stars is because I've been sick with positive E. Coli since our meal. I know it's from Houston's because that's the only food I had eaten all day. I'm guessing it's from the salad because my daughter had a tummy ache and diarrhea that night and I've been super sick since. read more

From the outset, Riley--our server--was gracious, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. When our bar seats opened up, the transition was handled effortlessly. Our drinks and appetizers followed us, and we were introduced to Tyler, who continued the same high standard of service. Both Riley and Tyler struck the perfect balance of professionalism and warmth, making us feel like valued guests rather than just customers. A small but telling moment: after a plate was cleared with a few olives still on it, I made a lighthearted comment to my friend--and without hesitation, Tyler brought me more olives. That level of attentiveness wasn't performative; it was sincere.
