What a great addition to the library! I had heard about this small cafe inside of the Seattle Public Library and was finally able to check them out on a recent Saturday. I opted for the Strawberry Matcha ($8.50), which was really tasty! I'd say one of the top 5 strawberry matchas I've had in the Seattle area, and I've had quite a few! I just wish they had boba or other toppings, but I realize that adds an added complexity. Staff was really friendly -- I believe this is a residency but hope it continues, as it makes coming to the library even more fun :) read more

Pistachio flavor is so good and matcha is nice and smooth. Also, the cream top tasted more unique than I expected, almost like a more custard flavor than typical plain cream tops, so not sure if it has some sort of flavor but the menu didn't specify. It's inside the library, though it's actually quite a large stand and they have a few tables to sit down at. Workers were very quick and friendly. When planning on where to get my caffeine fix while in Seattle, I saw multiple people describe Howdy Yall Coffee as the best matcha here. So I decided to give it a try! The cafe popup is located in the Central Library downtown. Perfect location if you work in the area or if you're visiting and want to walk up from Pike's Place or the art museum. The duo making the drinks were very nice! I got an iced matcha latte, and it was ready quite fast. The matcha color was gorgeous, but I felt the latte tasted more like milk than matcha. When I found out that there was a matcha place inside the library I knew I had to come. The inside area of the library is so pretty, and there's plenty of seating around on the second floor where Howdy Yall is located. The library opens at 10am on weekdays which made it a bit hard to come before work. I got a maple sea salt matcha. The matcha itself was really good, but I do wish there was a bit more maple flavor. The service was great and I got my drink really quick. If I was in the area I'd definitely try to come back. read more

I've been meaning to try Howdy Y'all ever since they went from a pop-up cart to a permanent location in the Seattle Public Library. I originally wanted a matcha, but the barista talked me into getting the iced double hojicha latte with oat milk, which was a great recommendation. It's definitely one of the better hojicha drinks I've had. The roasted, nutty flavor came through really well, and the oat milk complemented it perfectly. The hojicha cream added a nice richness without making the drink overly sweet. The baristas were super friendly and personable, which I really appreciated. There's seating at the café, plus plenty more throughout the library, making it a great place to grab a drink and spend a few hours reading or getting some work done. Very convenient location in the downtown public library. The service was friendly and fast. They have tables right there or lots around the library. We got the early grey matcha, one with cream top one without. I wish I had gotten the pistachio matcha instead, the syrup wasn't my favorite and a bit too sweet. I didn't love the matcha they use, it was a chalky. I would come again while studying to try there other drinks, I've also heard their coffee is good. read more

Overall nice vibe it's in a library so it's peaceful but the homeless population in this building is unsettling. Service was nice nothing special tho, just average. Any excuse to go to the SPL is a green light for me. Staff was very friendly, matcha was strong and flavorful, vibes are immaculate, easy access right inside the entrance from 5th ave. Move over Phe! You have some hidden competition with your matcha when it comes to this place. My friend and I decided to go on an unplanned matcha run and it took us here when he said he found this place on TikTok. This is on the 3rd floor of Central Library in downtown Seattle, though you can also get directly here using the entrance on 5th Ave; regardless, try to get here via public transportation if at all possible. There's not really an interior here, since the whole library itself is the interior: crowded because it's matcha but oddly quiet and mellow because it's a library setting. The only visible menu is up at the counter and servers take your order there. My friend and I got the earl grey matcha with oat milk, and oh boy this gives places like Phe a run for their money! The matcha here is earthy and floral, and the taste distinction between the matcha itself and milk is perfectly clear. The matcha's not muddled by the milk one bit, and I could have probably gotten a second one if I was crazy. They also don't charge extra for milk substitution so that was also a huge plus for me, and anyone who may be slightly lactose intolerant. This place got relatively busy throughout our stay here though it still feels there needs to be more advertising done. For matcha lovers I wouldn't pass up on this place where you can get awesome matcha AND visit one of Seattle's most architecturally pleasing libraries in the process. read more

8/10 overall earl grey matcha (9.25/10) one of their signature drinks!! super yummy without being overpowering and not too sweet. creamy and a good sipping drink vanilla bean matcha (7/10) too milky imo, and can't really taste the vanilla or matcha maple sea salt matcha w oat milk (8/10) i feel like they forgot the maple sea salt. but pretty goood one of the better matchas ive had blueberry cheesecake pastry (7/10) they warmed it up and it was good but just too sweet overall really nice! matcha is okay priced (def not for everyday though) and the owner is super sweet. one of my favorite earl grey matchas read more

As everyone else has mentioned, get the Earl grey matcha! The color is a vibrant green and the Earl grey flavor really comes through. Christina helped take my order and she was super kind! The upper levels of the library allow covered drinks so it was nice to explore the different floors and sip on my matcha. Tried the earl gray matcha from another really popular matcha cafe not too far away and was informed that Howdy Yall also has an earl gray matcha so I obviously had to come and do my own independent research to see what was up. Howdy Yall's earl gray matcha exceeded my expectations considering it's a small lil spot located in the central library that doesn't seem to be as matcha centric as the other place! The matcha was very rich and nutty with a subtle but not too subtle flavor of earl gray. I loved it and would highly recommend! The barista recommended I get the maple cream top but I find that cream tops make my drink too thick and creamy so getting a lite serving of it was the perfect solution. So good! read more

One of my favorite matcha's in seattle. I loved having their matcha at various different thrift markets, and am so happy they have a location at the seattle public library now. It's a great spot and I will definitely be coming back. I tried the pistachio matcha this time which was great, the pistachio flavor was not too overpowering. I am so happy Howdy Y'all finally has a permanent location and inside one of the coolest libraries too. They are so consistent with their quality and have some amazing drinks. My personal favorite go-tos are the classic iced matcha (sometimes adding a cream top when I want a little something special - and it is SO YUMMY) and the maple sea salt latte. Friendly and efficient customer service. I ordered the mango matcha with oat milk and it was really delicious! Howdy Y'all Matcha is located on the 2nd floor of the downtown Seattle library and there's some seating. They also sell some pastries and have a points system which I really like. I found out about this place through TikTok and wanted to try them out. I'm SO glad I did because not only was it located in the gorgeous Seattle Public Library, but the Earl Grey Matcha was very good (and I'm super picky with my Matcha). Omar took my order and he was super friendly and helpful since it was my first time. He recommended I add their Maple Cream Top, and it was delicious! Soooo I tried Phe but I think this place is better in my opinion. We came at 10 in the morning so it was pretty empty. I was recommended the Earl Grey Matcha. I noticed that they now pour drinks from a pre-made plastic jug instead of making them fresh like when the store first opened. I usually don't get sick from drinking coffee but twice in a row is pretty bad. Their drinks are also overly sweet and most of them do not have a 0% sweet option, which is usually what I order from other coffee and tea shops, and it's probably because most of the ingredients are pre-mixed. They also use thick plastic cups, considering that Seattle is a pretty green city and a lot of similar Vietnamese coffee shops use sustainable cups. Sad to say, but my time visiting this chain has come to an end.

We started with the crab toast and paired everything with a Coke for me and their Tropical Tea for Dan. The drinks were good, and the crab toast was even better. The steelhead itself was good, but the rice substituted for the potatoes was hard and clearly undercooked, and the broccoli was also quite hard. The rice was offered as a substitute because they were out of potatoes, and I have absolutely no issue with a substitution--especially in an airport. But when you're paying $120+ for a meal, the sides should still be properly prepared. One other thing to keep in mind if you're traveling: we had our carry-on and personal bags with us. We were asked not to place our belongings on the nearby tables. We noticed that guests seated at some of the surrounding tables were able to use nearby tables and high chairs for their belongings, so the policy felt a little inconsistent from where we were sitting. Overall, our review reflects our experience, which unfortunately left us disappointed and feeling like the meal didn't live up to the hype we had seen online. The fish was good, the starter was good, Dan enjoyed his entrée, and the service itself wasn't the overall main issue. It was primarily the quality of my sides and the overall value that left us feeling let down. That said, maybe it was simply a bad day for them. We're not saying this is necessarily representative of every visit, but based on our experience, we left feeling pretty disappointed after having such high expectations.

There are some really good beers available here, especially the Belgian blonde, citra pale ale, and the stout. I did not really care for the seasonal sour (grapefruit, I think)--to me, it just tasted like a sour and nothing more, but someone with more interest in sour beers would probably enjoy it just fine. Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. If you can snag a seat outside, you'll get to enjoy the waterfront. Inside, the decor is industrial but fun. Not sure if this runs all the time, but when we were there, the tvs were playing vintage beer ads, which was quite fun. They also sell some pretty good t-shirt designs. Walking in, unfortunately we found no mention of boba anywhere on the menu. I guess it's a future option or perhaps the website is just wrong, considering that they show photos of rolled ice cream, which they also don't serve. Ordering can be done either in person or at a kiosk near the front. There's plenty of seating and while we entered in the late afternoon, there were still several people inside settled down on laptops. Osmanthus Oolong Tea, 16oz ($6.25) - This is a very lightly sweetened beverage with plenty of fragrant flowery flavor emanating from the osmanthus. It's a really clean flavor, not quite grassy, but somewhat green in essence, coming with just a slight astringent bite towards the finish. It's a good, clean iced tea. (4/5) Da Hong Pao Tea Latte ($7.50) - This latte has a nice strong balanced nutty flavor. I saw the barista pour milk into the cup up to maybe 3/4 full, so I'm surprised that the tea flavor is so strong in this drink. The milk adds tons of body but doesn't contribute an overwhelming dairy flavor. They add a lot more sugar syrup into this drink - it's probably equivalent to 75% sweet or so at a boba shop, although it's not harsh at all due to likely being pure cane syrup instead of fructose. (4/5) The tea quality at Chaco is pretty good. It's always nice to see a cafe (rather than a tea shop) with such great variety! The major downside - pricing is really high especially for some of the premium teas. It's like double the price of actual tea shops in Seattle. I guess that's the Seattle Center tax? Bathrooms - Shared with the rest of the building tenants.

It's only a 9-minute walk from the Union Station in Chinatown to here, so you could utilize parking in Chinatown itself and walk over if you'd like. I got their iced matcha latte with oat milk to drink inside. They use grassy, earthy ceremonial matcha here so that's a plus! It isn't sweet in any way and is in a relatively small cup for $8 before tax but you're not charged extra for oat milk as stated on their menu, which is yet another plus for those who are even slightly lactose intolerant. Drinks - mines and others who came before and after me - were made relatively fast.

Drink is quite big for the $9 price tag compared to other recent places around the area, so you're getting a lot more here! I just probably had a one-off experience with the matcha, so I'll come back to try their coffee instead.
