My friends were starving so settled with HP Cafe for lunch. As we started to order we noticed our Server (#135) was just simply rude and has no customer service skills. We asked a few questions and took a little more time before placing the orders. She seems to be in a rush. Her attitude made me wanted to walk out of the restaurant if it wasn't for my starving friends. Locating the bathroom was a challenge. It is a mosaic door blending with the interior and no signs. Major health violation with no soap in the bathroom. I always wonder if the staff even washed their hands before heading back to their stations. Disgusting! We stopped by for breakfast here after finishing up some early morning hikes and photo sessions. Considering how busy Sedona is in the mornings on weekends we knew it might be hard to find a place and we wanted somewhere that might not be as large to avoid the bigger group wait times. The restaurant is relatively small with a small main dining area and some additional seating in their patio out back. We would say this place would be good for groups up to 6 or so to avoid it being too crammed. Considering we were here during the colder months we opted for one of their warm coffee cocktails which are usually not easy to find anywhere which we thought was a nice little feature that they had. We chose to get the Salted Caramel and Chocolate Whiskey Latte and the Nutty Irishman. For warm drinks usually the alcohol doesn't mix very well and has a sharper taste for those that aren't already aware but we really enjoyed them as they warmed us up on a cold morning. Their food options are really decently sized portions and all seemed like a good mix of ingredients and flavors. We chose to get the Big Fat Breakfast Bowl and the Breakfast Panini. Both were really good and had tons of flavor and they did not skimp on the servings which we think are fair considering the prices you pay in Sedona. Overall this place was a great find and still one of our most memorable breakfasts in Arizona that we hope to go back to. Usually try to stick with four stars but the menu looked good.... And it was! The omelets were unique but delicious.. I love trying new combinations (they have traditional as well but I love seeing what a chef recommends). Service was good for Sedona (tourist town) and very polite. After hiking Devil's Bridge for sunrise, my group needed some food ASAP. HP Cafe seemed to have some good choices on the menu and was in Uptown Sedona, which we weren't able to explore just yet! Parking was easy in the free lots around the area. We were able to quickly walk to HP Cafe and also spend time exploring the shops afterwards. The interior definitely surprised us when we came in. I think we were all expecting diner vibes but it was rather nice and we felt underdressed in our hiking clothes. However, a lot of the other customers were similarly dressed so we got over it. We were greeted very warmly and the host combined a handful of sanitized tables to seat our group of 8. The staff is here is very friendly and would constantly check if everything was okay with us! It seemed like they really cared. We started off getting drink orders in and we had a variety of Bloody Mary's, lattes, coffee, and juice in our group. No complaints here except I think the latte could be creamier- it was lacking flavor for me and maybe could have used more milk. I love how I asked what flavors of lattes they had and the server said anything you can imagine! So I went with hazelnut and my friend went with vanilla... but I'm sure there are way more flavors! The breakfast entree themselves were yummy for everyone though! Our plates were cleaned off. I got the Red Rock Omelette and it just hit the spot. The skillets my friends got looked quite good too. Eating in Sedona Uptown is not easy. There are countless bad-food places, aimed at tourists who are presumed to be undiscerning with regards to their food. Even fine dining spots are poor. For example, the quality of the food at Saltrock Kitchen has too many misses for a fine dining spot, while Cress is just hugely overpriced for some quite ordinary food. My reliable standby used to be HP Cafe. Decent food, plenty of indoor seating, and normal (not "Sedona" prices). Well, the food, the ambiance, and the service is still good. Very impressed. my GF had the French Toast made with Nutella and I had the Cowboy Hash. Both were delicious. The service was OK. The food was very disappointing, as well as our server. 2 entrees said it came with fries, which only had a few small slices of potato's in the frittata. And everything was an extra charge. +$2 for oat milk on an already $6 single shot latte, $3 for any toppings on a $15.5 omelette, (of which didn't have anything in it, just 3 eggs which hardly seems like you could call that an omelette. And the extra charges were only told after we had already ordered. The portions were almost a joke. The 5 of us looked at each other in disbelief after the server recommended 2 of the entrees as the larger portions on the menu. I'm not sure if they were running out of supplies but for a frittata that cost $20, it was hardly enough to feed a small child. Our server was more focused on telling us all the extra charges than staying engaged and making it a pleasant experience. I've been to many great restaurants both in Sedona and other places but never been more dissatisfied with the food and service. The bad? The food was subpar for all 5 of our meals and the proportions were terribly small. 2 plates said home fries were with the frittatas- there's a few potato's added to the actual frittata. The avocado toast had 2 very runny eggs on regular wheat toast (from Safeway). They charged extra for everything, including 1 ounce of oat milk for $2.00. So we were hoping to go to Creekside cafe but they were unexpectedly closed for maintenance and on our way back to Amara Resort and Spa, popped into HP cafe. We sat on the back patio which was shaded and relaxing. I was deciding between the biscuit and gravy dish and the pancake combo, ultimately deciding on the latter. I asked for one multigrain and one buttermilk pancake and the dish came with eggs and bacon. The buttermilk pancake was very average - kind of dry even. But to my surprise, the multigrain pancake was delicious! Hearty and a really nice texture. The dish came with maple syrup and prickly pear syrup, the latter of which was kind of flavorless. All in all, the food was fine with the multigrain pancake being the standout. What really did throw me off was how pricy the food was. Two of us dined and the bill came to $60, which seemed like a lot given what was on our plates. read more

Really weird place. The name "cafe" is kind of misleading...this is no mom & pop shop, more of a "fru fru" vibe that gets reflected in prices and portion sizes. We walked in just because we knew every place would be expensive and we might as well pick one that wasn't packed. And this place was dead. There were a few customers eating outside in the back, but we were the only ones inside. Too quiet in there, just felt awkward, like we didn't belong. Staff not overly welcoming. Food was alright but portions quite small for the prices. I get that any restaurant on this street is gonna charge a lot, but just left us feeling cheated out of $. My mom got these crepes, and they were good but it was like three little crepes for $15 or more. I had this little chicken pesto moment, which I thought would be a sandwich, but was more of an open faced/flatbread situation. Hard to tell where my "sandwich" ended and my salad began. Not bad, but the pesto was so light that you could barely taste anything from it, and the lemon vinaigrette for the salad was like straight vinegar and lemon juice. Something odd was going on though as my partner and I waited at the front for a bit without acknowledgement. I think they might have been short staffed/ not at capacity due to covid. When we were greeted we were told "we can seat you but it's probably going to be 10 minutes before we can get your order" maybe the vortex made me calmer than usual haha.
