We stopped by for happy hour and found ourselves very underwhelmed with Hubbard Grille. We snagged two seats at the bar, and were not even acknowledged by anyone for about 5 minutes. When we placed our orders, the bartender immediately got my draft beer, but then acted like he didn't even hear my SO's cocktail order, continuing to make other drinks, run to the kitchen, etc before coming back again to ask if she made up her mind...after she already ordered. Next, the place was so noisy that we could barely hear each other. The brick and tile floors project all of the conversation to the point of even overshadowing the music. When we asked for the check, our server rang it up wrong and we had to remind him that our drinks should have been at the happy hour price, after already having to remind about happy hour when we got there. Needless to say, we left before even finishing our drinks and right about that time the bartender, trying to be overtly fancy, shattered a wine glass in mid-air on accident right over the bar top -- then didn't ask anyone if the shattered glass got in their drinks / on them -- he just laughed about it. Okay, so Hubbard has existed for a long time. I've been here through variations of their menu of the years. I've been to events, dates, bachelor dinners, and birthday dinners here. First and foremost, their service has been good. Maybe once I had a bad experience years ago, just enough that I can barely recall it. Most recently sat at the bar, post-covid, still with the barriers, and the two bartenders working were on point. Fast, attentive, and - lets be clear - they were getting busy and they were able to be fast, friendly, chatty and WELCOMING. It was great to have a drink and relax while I waited for my date. I ordered the Brussels sprouts, expecting a few minutes of delivery. They were out FAST. The red wine cooked with it - it looked like it would have a stronger flavor, but it was absolutely delicious. The problem was the entrees. Fried chicken and pork chops. The dishes were just inconsistent in their seasoning, with each bite either being overpowering (the kale was either mild or spicy, the grits, bland or cheesy) or just lacking in flavor. All in all, for the price and expectations of Hubbard, it is a miss. Did I choice the wrong entrees? Perhaps. But it's hard to say I should come back more often when the entrees are such a miss! We came to Hubbard for the first time for Happy Hour! Our server was extremely friendly and made sure we ordered from the happy hour menu before happy hour ended, which was very nice! We tried a few of the drinks including the Agave Cooler as well as a few bottles of wine. We also tried some appetizers on the happy hour menu including the parmesan truffle fries, sweet potato fries, jalapeno corn bread, and the margherita flatbread. Everything was yummy, but the size of the flatbreads was a bit dissapointing, especially since they advertise flatbreads and not 1/2 a flatbread, which is what it actually is. Other than that, we were all very pleased. A few people also ordered off the dinner menu and got the shiitake mushroom sandwich and the salmon blt. They both really enjoyed their entrees! My friends and I went here for my friend's birthday dinners on a Tuesday. The Tuesday plays a huge because they have a Tuesday fried chicken deal and it was such a great DEAL! You get a great size of chicken and two sides; grits and brussel sprouts. The chicken had such great flavor and brussel sprouts were charred to perfection, I would definitely comeback here again just the for deal alone - the service was also great. The grits were my favorite but alos not the biggest fan of grits in the first place but me and my boyfriend ordered the mac and cheese to split and it was SO good. I had to update my review as it had been three years since I wrote one and I've been to Hubbard Grill about a handful of times since then. We arrived late to our reservation but I called so they were very accommodating still. The only comment that I have about my reservation is that I would have thought, they would have setup our table prior to us getting to the restaurant as we were late. It was Columbus Restaurant Week so they had a limited menu but the reason we came! Again, I've been here a lot so I got my favorite appetizer, the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. The Brussel sprouts are a Hubbard classic - crispy sprouts, red wine reduction. AMAZING! Another appetizer I recommend is Short Ribs and Shrimp, pulled beef short rib, sauteed shrimp, white cheddar grits, tomato jus. For my main entree, I got the filet which I checked and is not on their regular menu other than paired as a surf and turf. My friend had Pasta Puttanesca, roma tomatoes, imported kalamata olives, capers, garlic, e.v.o.o., parmesan. It was fantastic, both entrees. Kind of disappointed that they ran out of the dessert that I wanted but will get it next time. We ended up getting Brownie and Blondie Sundae, half brownie, half blondie, local triple vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sunflower butter buckeye (peanut free). Randomly stumbled upon this place and loved the ambience here. First, would like to comment on how nice and helpful our waiter was! So friendly and honest about the food and drink options. Second, food was great! The jalapeño corn bread was DELICIOUS. it was crispy and so flavorful. Just wish there was a stronger jalapeño flavor. The southwest skillet was alright! Dinner with girlfriends on a Saturday evening was EVERYTHING. Not typically into cheese grits but these were to DIE for. The short rib entree was delightful. I was skeptical of the hummus bc it looked a little gritty (vs creamy) and I was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful it was and the crudite variety it was served with. If five stars is the night of my life, I'd give this spot a solid 3.5 stars. General ambiance felt typical for the area. You can definitely feel the hustle and bustle of the restaurant which to me felt more like a bar with dining. I generally liked the esthetic but would not consider it a fine dining experience. Service was good. They didn't rush us and stayed attentive. We went on a Friday night and it was packed and encouraging they kept up well. Now for the meat and potatoes (literally)... The food was accountable. We took my kids (late teen/young adult) as my son was on leave from Japan and heading back. To them, I'm sure they would have considered it better than usual. To us, it was prepared correctly and got the job done. The food didn't take away from the evening but also didn't leave a lasting impression. You're definitely not coming here for a culinary experience experience, but more so, an accountable establishment to enjoy company. Never thought much of this place but came here on a Friday night without reservations after just a little wait and had the best time with our friends in town. Apps were good (calamari, brussels, burrata... the Columbus classics) and we all enjoyed our entrees as well. Best shrimp fettuccine I've had so far in Columbus. My friend is a veggie so she's had a lot of Mac and cheese and she had raving reviews of this mac For drinks we shared a bottle of 2018 Orin swift Palermo. We had reservations for the Hubbard Grill this past Friday evening. I used Open Table, but the restaurant was more than accommodating when I called to change my party size. When we arrived, we were seated at a cozy booth. The restaurant didn't feel congested and it seemed like they were doing a good job of following Covid protocols. I ordered a red sangria to start and my friend ordered a white. We both agreed that the drinks left a lot to be desired. The red sangria had a medicinal quality to it and didn't pack much of a punch (and the drink was $10). For an appetizer, we ordered the tuna tartare. I'm not generally a big fan of tuna (which feels sacrilegious), but it was an incredibly refreshing appetizer. I really enjoyed it! We both ordered the fried chicken and were given the option of white or dark meat, which I appreciated. It was served with the most amazing cheddar grits and crispy brussel sprouts. The meal was $19, which was a fair price, but I noticed it is in special on Tuesdays for $10. The chicken was incredibly crisp and the meal was a great size. We've either driven or walked by this restaurant numerous times and decided to give it a try. We sat in the open air patio / bar area, and it the breeze was very nice. The vibe of this restaurant is upscale casual, so it's a perfect place to dress up for date night. Let's get to the food / drinks... My friend and i walked past this place today as we were headed to some local shops. When we came back we had went inside and it was seriously the best steak and mashed potatoes I've ever had. We had jordynn as our server and she was positively wonderful. I had gotten a wedge salad with ranch instead of bleu cheese. I came in a group of 13-15 people, but I'll be speaking towards my own food and general observations for this review. In a general summary, the food here is quite good, the service is quick, and the general ambiance qualifies as something that could be both casual or slightly high end. FOOD: Our table shared the crispy brussels sprouts and sweet & spicy calamari. The sprouts came drenched in a red wine reduction, which is on the sweeter side compared to the sprouts which were lightly salted. I would argue that despite the name, the sprouts were barely crispy due to the reduction itself and I'd warrant that a glaze might be better than soaking them in a reduction in this case as to not lose the crispness. Flavor wise, it was fabulous, but the texture was lacking. The calamari was more or less okay - they were wonderfully seasoned, but outside of the aioli they came with, they were not sweet nor spicy. In other words, it was just your average calamari. For my meal of choice, I went with the Hubbard Burger with sweet potato fries. This took me by surprise as it actually was better than the average burger. It was cooked to order with a wonderful bacon jam that made the burger; otherwise, nothing else to push the burger into stellar. Generally speaking, food is above average, but not incredible. SERVICE: Despite the number of people who were in our party, service was incredibly quick. Props to our waitress and the kitchen staff, because there was a lot going on (I failed to mention when we went it was Super Bowl Sunday). Despite all that, she was super patient, got all the orders right, and was friendly and able to accommodate a lot of requests. AMBIANCE: The whole restaurant is fairly open and spacious with bar seating. I would say it's definitely day time casual, but is a great date spot if you're looking for a nice dinner out. They are able to accommodate larger groups, and there's plenty of windows for that perfect lighting for photos. At night, we're talking soft ambient lighting that lends to a cozier air. Overall, a nice place for a casual night out! FINAL THOUGHTS: Hubbard Grille is a good place to go if you want good food at a place with nice wait staff and a lovely nice atmosphere. The sprouts are probably the go to with other appetizer choices in mind. The burger is a safe choice to go, as it is one of their more known dishes. Some folks in my party ordered salads that were massive and others ordered apps for meals or main entrees. I would say to give everything a shot and see what you like! Would come again! read more

What a treat Hubbard Grille was for dinner. We were a party of five and were seated just up the stairs at a quaint table overlooking the lower level bar. For the first time in 8 years, I chose to have our office Christmas party at a place we had been in previous years. Our team was there three years ago and I only got positive feedback from that visit and had requests that we return. We did return yesterday for our annual dinner and we were not disappointed. The upstairs private dining has an ideal setup and we were able to enjoy a pleasant evening away from the normal restaurant crowd. The food was delicious and plentiful. Everyone got plenty to eat and could not have been more satisfied with the quality of the food. Finally, the staff that served our group was fantastic. Very professional, prompt and courteous. I went to Hubbard recently with a friend and Wow! We were really impressed from start to finish. The minute we walked in, we received a very warm greeting and welcoming smiles all around from the staff. It was a gorgeous day so, we decided to sit outside on their awesome patio! My friend and I are both gluten - free so, we checked out the menu to see what we could have and the menu was labeled with icons next to the dishes that were or could be made gluten - free, which makes ordering a breeze! Our server Nick greeted us immediately and offered us drink options. He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. We wanted hot tea and he recommended this delicious berry tea. When he brought it out, he served it with fruit wedges because he said it paired well and it really did! That presentation even with a cup of tea was just the start of our awesome meal. All of the staff was really informed about accommodating specific food allergies and providing recommendations. Our whole meal was based pretty much on what was recommended to us and we were NOT let down. So here's our meal breakdown.. First up was the roasted beet salad: Fresh, flavorful. Then the Tuna Tartare: SO GOOD! The combination of the crisp cucumber paired with the tuna was mouthwatering. Then we had the Lemon Artichoke Dip: Again Fresh, light, left us wanting more. This place like all places in the shirt north is very busy on the weekends. Service was good not great and they seemed confused and unsure of where the food goes every time it was brought out. My husband enjoyed his class but it's $12 for essentially a house gin and tonic. I got the agave cooler, which was really bitter I added some juice in and it was a lot better but definitely still bitter. We started off with the short ribs and shrimp. The tomato sauce it was on just tasted like watered down tomato paste. The cheesy grits were cold and the short rib wasn't tender. The shrimp on it though was delicious. We also got the burrata which was good and it came with a ton of stuff, but the bread was rock hard and there wasn't enough of it. Then we got the goat cheese ravioli and added chicken in a seafood broth. The seafood broth was confusing since it wasn't a seafood dish. It came with about 8 good size raviolis and the tiny thin chicken was $8 and in my opinion not worth it. The environment was nice but seemed a little stressed. read more
