I've been to Hubbard Grille quite a few times in the past and finally had a chance to come back again for happy hour. The happy hour deals aren't too bad (select $5 cocktails and apps). Calamari was a bit more chewier than I would have liked but I liked the balance of it with the apple to give it some sweetness. The portions were large, tuna dish was excellent, macaroni and cheese was tasty but grainy, the burger was ordered medium but came medium rare and fell apart as you started to eat it. The filet of mignon was $40+ and not really worth it. The jalapeño cornbread was tasty but not spicy. You can hear all the traffic from the street inside the dining room. Server was friendly however the food came out slow. I ordered coffee, it came in a French Press and was tasty but I don't think they know how to use a French press as my coffee cup was full of coffee grounds. I asked for cream and sugar, the coffee came out with not creamer or sugar. I asked again and creamer came out, I had to ask for sugar and that finally came out. Drink: Gose Vacation- reposado tequila, lime, orange juice, simple syrup, seasonal gose beer. It's served in the standard large water glass. Way too much space for a cocktail if you ask me. The drink was not good. The orange juice was watered down and gross. Bartender was a nice guy though! So... I told the bartender how I felt. He then recommended another tequila based drink and offered to use a larger single ice cube. I wish they would do this for all of their specialty cocktails. The price difference is $2. My husband and I had one of our first dates here, and have been coming back for the bang-up food and drinks ever since! We would make a point to stop here every once in a while when I still lived in Columbus; but now that we've moved, it's a MUST every time we're in the city! Brussel sprouts are to DIE for. During our meal tonight I noticed that a staff member was changing the level of the outside blinds when he noticed that I was squinting because of the sun! You could argue that this might be coincidence, but I was one of the only people in the restaurant facing that way where the Sun was shining at that time, and I did notice that he kept checking to make sure the Sun wasn't blinding me. Just goes to show you how attentive the staff members are to EVERY SINGLE customer in the building, even if they aren't directly responsible for your service! Actually the main reason for writing this review was because I sent a drink back (probably for the first time EVER in my life, because I've never had Mezcal and therefore the "All the Smoke" was a little too much for me!) and our server and the manager were both extremely respectful, attentive, and kind for the ENTIRE rest of our meal, even though it was probably my fault I didn't like the drink in the first place since I ordered something I had never tried! I felt terrible for sending the drink back at one of our favorite establishments in the city (especially on account of my own mistake) but our whole experience just reminded us of why the Hubbard is a MUST-visit restaurant/bar in the Short North! read more

I went to Hubbard Grille for the first time today with some of my friends. We were there for brunch, and I'd have to say that it was a good experience. First, I like the overall ambience of the restaurant. They make good use of their space, and the furniture was cozy and inviting. The server that we had was very nice and attentive, as were the other employees that we interacted with while were at the restaurant. For my meal, I had the fried chicken, which comes with grits & crispy brussel sprouts. The grits were delicious, which was nice because a lot of places really do seem to struggle with getting them right. I also really enjoyed the texture of the brussel sprouts (the crispiness was superb), but I wasn't as much of a fan of the sweetness. I think I would've enjoyed them more if they were just salted. The cook on the chicken was great, but I unfortunately didn't find it that flavorful on its own. However, it does come with gravy, which provided a nice flavor addition. We also tried a couple of the apps, and I would say that both the hush puppies and the apple cider donuts are worth getting. Delicious. read more

I mostly come during Sunday's because of their discounted shareables and drinks! The discount is all day long and the discount is about 40% menu price. It's a great place to have some quality food with a fair price in the short north district, especially if you only want shareables like me. I highly recommend the calamari, Brussels sprouts, and corn bread. They're one of the reason I like coming to Hubbard so much. The artichoke dip is another shareable that, although not discounted like the others, is something you cannot pass on. The only disappointment I have with Hubbard is that they're starting to increase the prices of their food while decreasing the portion size. They used to have all their shareable items exactly 50% off but now only have selective items that are discounted (40% or so). I came in for dinner last night for the first time in a month and saw that their portion size has significantly decreased from what it used to be. My friends and I came to Hubbard for their Sunday brunch and were extremely pleasantly surprised. I only say surprised because I had never heard about their brunch before. Our waiter's name was Armand and he was funny, helpful, and attentive. We walked in were greeted and immediately seated. You can tell that this restaurant takes pride in the consumer experience. tables were spaced just wide enough to allow you to enjoy your table, but not so wide you didn't know you were in company with others (although it's probably a secret plot so you can look to see what they ordered). But really, the service was pretty good (and everyone helped everyone). Our server was good, but could have been better. At one point, I had to keep asking if he'd take away our empty glasses and points. Otherwise he was good and had an opinion (re: could make recommendations) about the menu. Food: Nice options for the meatheads, vegetarians and those who need the gluten free options in life. I had the brussel sprouts (not gluten because it's fried in oil that other mystery foods use) and the mahi. My dining companions had the beet salad with chicken and the pork chop. All in all everyone was satisfied and had very few things they wanted changed about the menu. Wandered in here for a random Happy Hour and initially felt out of place. Seems fancy and a little high end. So, what did we do? We chilled at the bar like most people who feel out of place. The bartenders and bar-backs were fun and very welcoming. The Happy Hour was pretty solid (see pictures for menu details) for both selection and prices. Their Jalapeno Corn Bread is pretty D-lish! By the end of our visit, we were pretty happy we started the night there, and ended up feeling way more comfortable after getting to know a few of the employees. I hosted a dinner for a university club for 30 - 40 people on the second floor in Hubbard Grille's the Private Dining Room. Hubbard was very accommodating when trying to schedule our late notice dinner, they provided staff for us on a Monday, when they aren't usually open, and set up the dining room in a wonderful layout. They were in constant contact with us the week leading up to our event and we very forth coming with answers to our questions. The food and drink was amazing, we had an array of sliders, bruschetta, salad, and their signature brussle sprouts. They took care to make sure our food allergies were accounted for and we had food for all our attendees. They helped us manage our budget by designing a wine and beer list for our guests. Overall the support I received made our event possible and is invaluable when looking at different venues for an event of our size. All in attendance had a great time, and we will definitely keep Hubbard grille in our repitoire for future events. read more

Tina was super easy to work with and responsive in setting up the evening, loved the touch of them printing custom menus with our logo. John and Chad were the two servers/bar tenders and very attentive, down to the detail of folding someone's napkin when they went to the restroom (very impressive for 2 people to be that in tuned with a large group). My wife and I went to the Hubbard Grille this past Saturday and were extremely pleased with the experience. When you walk in, it has a big city vibe to it, with the mixture of a bar/restaurant feel. It reminded me of a NYC restaurant, with the constant buzz and packed atmosphere. I had the fried chicken and grits, the chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was cooked perfectly and the grits were cheesy and delicious to mix with the bites of chicken. There was also crispy brussels to compliment the other food. My wife got the chicken sandwich, it was fairly generic but the fries were fantastic. The drinks were fair priced and the service was great. The boy and I decided to give Hubbard Grille a try when we wanted to do a date night last week. We'd heard pretty good things about it and walked by dozen of times but never stopped in. Luckily, we walked in the door right at the edge of happy hour so we were able to put in an app and drink order and get it all half-priced. We had the Three Cheese Spinach Dip with warm, house-made tortilla chips and it was amazing. I'd say it was probably the best version of the restaurant standard I've ever had and I'd go back again just to get more. For drinks, I got the Southern Belle and he had the Winders Whiskey. The Southern Belle was perfect for me. The Makers Mark was just strong enough when paired with the strawberry, Cointreau, and lemonade. I could taste all the flavors each ingredient brought without it being to girly or too strong. His Winders Whiskey was a bit on the strong side for me, though he really enjoyed it; For dinner I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Ohio All Natural Chicken and was in hog heaven. The white truffle oil mixed into the roasted corn brown rice was tasty. The gravy was spicy and delicious, not greasy like some can be. The chicken was like my mom makes, and I'm from the South, so that's saying something. But, the thing that surprised me most: the brussel sprouts. Now, I've never been someone who hated them, so I knew they'd at least be okay for me, but these bad boys were probably the best damn thing about my meal. I scarfed them down and liked them so much, I seriously considered ordering more. Crispy, sweet, savory, perfect. John ordered up the Seared Pork Tenderloin and it was pretty darn good too. I really enjoyed that walnut basil pesto, it added just the right amount of delicious. Some of the not so beuno things about this place are these: the prices are on the high side for what they are bringing to the table. Don't get me wrong, the food and drinks are very tasty, but you can get similar things at other area restaurants for cheaper. Also, I'm not sure if it was just the night we happened to be there, but our waiter seemed a little ... distant? It was hard to get his attention when we wanted to order anything, but he was good about keeping our water glasses full. It was kinda weird, especially since it was such a slow night.
